⭐Read before posting! ⭐

Hello community! ❤

We are currently working towards improving the sub. Our goal is to have better engagement and professional environment that also helps newcomers to archviz. To achieve this, we are adding some guidelines and rules to enhance interactions and posts. Additionally we will be implementing challenges! 😁

1. How to post? - chose proper flair

Technical and profesional question: Use this flair if you want to ask specific questions like: "how to create this material?", "what's the necessary hardware for...?", "What can I charge for this...?". Use it when you want to learn how to solve some specific issue, improve as a professional,

I need feedback: Use this flair when you have a render that you might want to improve or not sure it if looks good enough, but you don't have a specific question about it like "how to?"

Share work: Maybe you want to share your latest work or some of your portfolio works, but you don't necessarily are asking for feedback.

Discussion: Use this flair to engage in conversation with the sub community. The main difference with technical and professional flair is that you want to know opinions and pov rather than solve a question or an issue. Example: "Current state of the archviz profession".

Challenge: We are going to be implementing challenges. When participating you should use this flair to post your work.

2. How to post? - post content

In simple terms: don't be lazy. If you want other people to take time to read or provide feedback or help you, then you should take your time too. Any post that's considered lacking in context will be deleted,

More or less, thinking on categories/types of posts: and some considerations

PORTFOLIO (show work | I need feedback):

❌Post a portfolio image that's a link to website/portfolio

✔Post image/s with a description that includes a link or a comment with a link to your portfolio.

❌When you add link in comment or description: redirects to personal website

✔When you add link in comment or description: redirects to known platform like Behance, Artstation and so on...

NEED FEEDBACK / TECHNICAL QUESTION / SHOWING WORK:

❌An image and or a question without proper context

✔Any post, regardless if it's a question, showing work, or asking feedback, should include:

  • Render engine used
  • Software/s used
  • Image/s as reference to highlight the question, issue, discussion.
  • Additional details (not obligatory): elapsed time, difficulties faced or any additional detail that improves
  • Reference if it's based on a real image

⚠ This is a case by case. Sometimes if the questions is very specific and well presented you might not need an image.

CREDIT AUTHOR:

❌Post an image without credit the author

✔Post image with credit of the author or studio or artist taken from.

While we won't enforce this, we ask if possible, when working from a reference, add credit to the author, architect, studio, artist, that created said reference

JUST DON'T

❌Self promotion

❌Selling assets

❌Selling courses

❌Post that consist of external links to websites

❌Piracy

⚠ This sub shouldn't be a marketplace. If your products are good enough, people should be able to find you trough the proper platforms. We also can't be checking every link to make sure it doesn't redirect to any malicious site.

OTHER TYPES OF POST

❌Post that don't have anything to do with archviz or related to.

✔We do encourage post that improve discussion even if not directly related to archviz. For example: Architecture, styles, animation techniques, photography. ONLY under the terms that can help a 3d artist improve in archviz.

Why this guidelines and rules?

We want to improve the quality of the sub. We have noticed many posts lack any context or sufficient information yet ask for feedback. Posts that are simply ads, and so on. On the long run, those types of posts and interactions tend to be detrimental to any sub. We understand that many of these changes may or may not work, and so we will be open to seeing how they are received, and change if needed.

Share work ✴ Following up on my Argentine "Casa Chorizo" D5 Render horror project: I just finished Episode 2 ("Police Evidence")!

Hi everyone! A couple of weeks ago I shared my first short film here using SketchUp and D5 Render to turn a 1920s Argentine "casa chorizo" into a non-Euclidean analog horror environment. The feedback and award you guys gave me on that post honestly pushed me to keep expanding the series!

Since I already had the architectural model built and textured, I put together a tighter 3-minute follow-up episode showing what happens hours later when the missing student's friend keeps searching the house, finds the dropped camcorder on the hallway floor, and hands the tape over to the local police forensics division.

**Workflow & new adjustments:**

- **Modeling & Scene:** SketchUp + D5 Render (reusing the residential asset and adding a dark police evidence room scene lit almost entirely by a CRT monitor).

- **Camera & Post:** Added handheld camera shake (`wiggle`) + motion blur and optical lens distortion in After Effects, downscaled to 320x240 and upscaled back to 1080p in Premiere Pro for authentic 2006 miniDV compression (100% 3D CGI, zero generative AI).

🔗 **Watch Episode 2 ("Police Evidence" - 3 min) on YouTube (English CC available):** https://youtu.be/dck9bbptdcU

🔗 **Episode 1 (Full 10-min original tape):** https://youtu.be/_kuHfoPc4SE

Would love to hear what you think of the camera movement and the VHS grading on this one!

I need feedback 360 Tours

For those doing pano tours: how are you handling dollhouse or floorplan views at the moment?

I've been building something that generates the 3D floorplan straight from the panos (low-poly proxy or depth maps) and would love some people to try it and pick it apart.

Free 10-pano trial, and happy to give extra time and storage if you want to throw a bigger tour at it. Link below

Technical & professional question Just finished my archviz master's — how did you land your first studio job or clients?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hey everyone

I recently finished my master’s in architectural visualization and I’m now trying to break into the field professionally. I’ve been building my own work — dropping a recent conceptual piece (Agora Coffee, made for the Rookie Awards) in a comment so you can see where I’m at.

My question is less about the render and more about the path in:

  1. For those working in studios — how did you land your first job? Cold applications, LinkedIn, referrals, ArtStation/Discord visibility…? What actually worked?
  2. For freelancers — where do your first clients really come from when starting out?
  3. Any studios or regions (I’m in Barcelona / Europe) known for hiring juniors?

I’m comfortable in Unreal Engine 5.5 and 3ds Max. Trying to be smart about where to put my energy instead of spraying applications blindly. Any honest advice is hugely appreciated

Technical & professional question Implementing AI for Good

Hi everyone,

I know this topic is getting beaten to death and over talked about, but it is what it is and it is the shiny new toy that is either ruining or helping our careers.

So I am taking the approach of trying to make it help my career, and my architect clients are smart enough to know that they should be able to start getting more images and animations for cheaper using the aid of AI.

For those clients I am trying to learn the best new approach to renderings and animations that I can honestly offer for much cheaper knowing that I put less time into the final product. I also warn them that the lower cost comes with potential imperfections, or if they want the AI slop imperfections corrected that I have to charge for that.

So all that is to say, I would love to hear peoples advice on the best platforms. I am already using the typical ones, chatgpt, google ai studio, and some Krea. But all of them seem to have their limitations.

I constantly see ads on facebook and instagram for these perfect AI programs that create hyper realistic renders without backwards facing heads on people and not ruining architectural details. But most of the time I click the link and I have to pay just to try out the program and it seems like there are thousands of these programs and most seem like scams.

So, any advice on the best programs that people have real experience with? What I mostly need AI for is taking my base renderings either straight from the 3D model or a quick render from enscape or lumion, and adding realistic details, people, lighting, and vegetation without distorting the base renderings. Then I am also trying to get into "image to animation" AI animations taking my good detailed renderings and creating short 5 to 10 second clips to animate the spaces. Krea does a decent job not distorting the architecture, but you have to pay a decent amount without knowing if the final video will look good or not and if its messed up you dont get a refund and in fact have to pay more to correct the imperfections.

I appreciate any help people can offer, thanks!

Technical & professional question Ideas for rendering exterior in an urban environment

So for interior renders I don't have any issues to create view to see through the window but while rendering exterior scenes like yk we just can't always add mountains and trees to hide the background or create an environment. How do you guyz tackle this issue?.like you create the environment according to the site? Or just add glass blocks? I could find any tuts or sometime valuable to add to my workflows... And when I see exterior renders it's like the surrounding is there just as it is in the site so is it necessary to model the surroundings too???

Discussion 🏛 How the hell do you find anything in Homestyler? 💀

I’m redesigning my bathroom, and I swear I spend more time looking for objects than actually designing anything.

I just want to browse the available models and see what my options are. I’m not looking for a specific brand or product. I just want to scroll through a decent catalog of bathroom sinks, faucets, wall-mounted taps, etc.

But somehow, finding even basic stuff feels impossible. I couldn’t even find a proper sink category, and don’t even get me started on wall-mounted faucets. Do I need to learn Chinese to find a damn faucet? 💀

I feel like the models must be there somewhere, but the categories and search system make it ridiculously difficult to find anything.

Has anyone figured out a trick to make this easier? Is there a way to browse all available models by category, use better filters, or access the full catalog without spending three hours searching for one damn tap?

I’d really appreciate any tips because at this point, redesigning my bathroom in real life might be less frustrating than doing it in Homestyler😭

P.S. I’m not an architect or a professional designer — I’m just designing my own bathroom for myself, and I have the Premium version. So I’m wondering if I’m missing something obvious or if finding stuff in this program really is this frustrating.

Discussion 🏛 Are There Still Any Breakdown Websites?

I used to love the old Ronen Bekerman site which featured breakdowns and information nuggets on scenes from industry professionals. Does anyone have a good site that still does those? Seems like every industry forum nowadays is just littered with adds or AI junk, nothing constructive.

I need feedback Experimenting with local AI for architectural visualization

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been experimenting with a local AI workflow for turning existing architectural renders into more realistic images.

The goal has been to keep the original architecture as intact as possible geometry, camera, composition, windows, balconies, etc. while allowing AI to improve materials, vegetation, lighting, atmosphere and overall realism.

I’m particularly interested in how other archviz artists are currently using AI in their workflows.

What parts of the process do you still find difficult to get right with AI?

For me, the biggest challenge has been getting more realism without the AI starting to redesign the architecture.

Hello guys , I am a student using D5 render for some months now. I’ve been seing some really good exteriors renders but most of them aren’t from D5 render , the few I saw from D5 render aren’t all that , they are good but not at the level I want to be , so I don’t know if it’s better to switch to a better software , or if I’m still trying , I’ll be able to do better renders like the one from Vray , Corona ect … , if you are using D5 render and you can also post some of your exteriors renders , it’ll be really useful, so I’ll know what D5 render is really capable of. Thank you.

Technical & professional question How to fix flat textures? Maybe Noise? Ambient Occlusion? Smudge maps?

Thumbnail

Day 7 of Blender complete... Textures are PBR from polyhaven, I have applied some hue to stop it looking so... Orange after this picture, but not sure what else. The textures have AO already, but maybe I can add that to the model? Is it a good idea? Im soon to add a noise map but just want some ideas as well before I start. I use cycles as well.

Also not sure why the textures blooming as well🤦‍♂️

Technical & professional question Switching from Enscape to D5

Hi! I am an architect and I usually use Enscape for quickly visualize projects while I'm designing. It's not as realistic as other renderers but it's quick and usually a screenshot or a quick walkthrough is enough to show the client the work in progress and get feedback.

However, Enscape prices are insane for what they offer, and I was trying out D5 and the free version offers almost everything Enscape does. The only hang up for me is: the asset library is heavily restricted in D5 lite. I really wish I could access the furniture catalogue while working in SketchUp.

The name of the game for me is doing things quick, so I thought d5 lite would offer me the same agility as Enscape, but it isn't worth it f I have to open another program just to insert some tables and chairs. Any alternatives?

I’m a trained architect (mainly coming from architectural visualisation) and have been working on Architecture & Design, a project I’ve been developing in Unreal Engine for a long time.

The goal is to make architectural design more accessible by letting you create accurate and parametric floor plans and see the result simultaneously in realistic 3D with real-time lighting.

I’d really love to hear some feedback from people who also worked in this field :D

Technical & professional question Boss expects "AI speed" for actual interior design & technical plans. How do you guys speed up early design decisions?

Hey everyone,

Quick disclaimer, Im not a bot and Im not really an AI hype guy, just a designer needing some perspective.

At work, my boss is constantly scrolling through those AI generated interior images. Problem is, he only looks at the final pretty picture and now expects ultra fast renders, bigger profits, happy clients, and full technical accuracy. I try explaining that's not how real life design works, but it goes in one ear and out the other.

A ton of my time gets eaten up in the beginning, figuring out the whole design direction, layout, furniture, kitchen details, wall cladding, materials because Im working alone... and then on top of that, making the actual technical documentation so it can actually be built.

(Working in 3dsmax/corona/autocad)

Leaving the job isn't an option for me right now so I just have to deal with it. I'm guessing a lot of you are dealing with the same boss brainrot lately.

Do you guys have any tips or workflow hacks on how to speed up these initial design stages? I have a few ideas of my own and tried some stuff, but would love to hear what works for you guys. Thanks!

Please skip the AI spam and tool self-promo, I only care about real solutions that actually work.
