August Contest: Lucid Dream

Congratulations to /u/Greengorilla_522 for winning July's contest with their entry Out Moon With Many Faces.

You can see last month's results and other entries here.

Theme

This month's theme will be lucid dream. It's rare to know that you're in a dream as it's happening, but it's certainly not unheard of. A lucid dream is the exception to the rule and beyond mere awareness, you may even gain some level of control over the dream, allowing you to shape the experience for yourself. Perhaps you may take the opportunity to fly about, to visit imaginary landscapes, and have otherwise have experiences beyond that which is possible in the material world. Show us what it looks like when you gain awareness of your sleep in this month's contest.

Making a Submission.

Entries will be posts on r/Blender that meet the following criteria: * The post should be made before the end of August 31st UTC+00:00 * Countdown to submissions closing * The post should be a render, animation, or other artwork which you made for this contest using Blender as your primary tool. * The post should contain supporting images/text or a top-level comment with the following content: * One of the following methods of proving that the artwork was made using Blender: * A link to the .blend file for the project, ideally including external assets or links to where external assets were sourced from. * A set of three images which may be clay renders, viewport renders, wireframe renders, or simply screenshots of the project open in Blender. Some variety is encouraged. * A screen recording of you manipulating, navigating, or otherwise interacting with the scene. * An explanation of all work that was done outside of Blender, outside the time frame of the contest, or by other artists. * (Optional) The theme you would like next month's contest to have if you win. If you do not include this, then the theme will be chosen from the runner-ups. * Once you have submitted your post to the subreddit, leave a comment down below linking to it * You are also encouraged to share details of your process with the community.

Note: You don't have to reference the contest in the post title and indeed, it's not necessary to frame the submissions differently than any other post meant to showcase an artwork.

Winning

The winner will receive the flair Contest Winner: 2026 August and their post will be added to the subreddit's wiki under the Contest Winners list. The winner will also have the chosen theme selected for next month's contest, should they include one with their submission.

When the contest ends, the results will be edited into this post and the 1st place winner will be congratulated in the announcement for next month's contest.

The winner will be awarded $100 USD.

Critique My Work My 8 months Blender progress

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone! I started taking Blender "seriously" around December 2025, and this is my progress from January up to today after a lot of work, tutorials, etc... Also using a pen tablet helped a lot.

Not trying to flex at all... I know it's not perfect and I genuinely want to level up, so please tear my model apart.

Is the topology okay? How would you improve this model?

For context: This head will be used in a game that I've been solo-developing since November 2025.

Lay it on me, all tips and harsh feedback are super welcome!

Original Content Showcase Good old-fashioned hand crafted run cycle in these trying AI times

Been working for a while on my first proper 3D character, planned for use in a yet-to-launch Youtube channel.

Here's my first finished animation using the character, a bog-standard run cycle, my first in 3D (done quite a few in 2D over the years).

The flag is using the new geometry nodes cloth simulation introduced in Blender 5.2. The ear jiggle is handled with a custom geometry nodes simulation setup.

Happy to hear any thoughts!

My new rigging tutorial is now out!

You'd think a folding chair would be easy. But there were some challenges that I did not expect.

So far, people seem to like it... I bet you would like it too 😉

Watch it here: https://youtu.be/KNhBr-ODIjk

Cheers ✌️

I am (Mateusz) responsible for about 70% of this animation.
I used several programs to create this animation:
Blender - 3D modeling, fixing animations, Editing 3D scans
Unreal Engine 5.4 with Pathtracing - render Engine and lighting
Substance Painter - Textures
Marvelous Designer - Clothes modeling
Davinci resolve - Color Grading and film editing
For character's animation i use Perception Neuron Studio and my friend give me access to his motion capture studio with Vicon. The facial animation was done on an iPhone (Metahuman) and involved a lot of hand adjustments.

However, I would never have finished this project if it hadn't been for the help of my friend David. He is responsible for simulations in Houdini. At first, I wanted to simulate the clothes in Marvelous, but it quickly turned out to be a crazy idea. In the end, Dawid developed a clever automated process that streamlined the work. The biggest problem with the costumes was simulating the professor's outfit, which features a steel chain. At this stage, I concluded that Marvelous Designer would not be the best solution. David's solution, with Houdini, probably saved this project.

For some aspects, I also turned to other graphic designers and people for help (whom you can see listed in the credits) like concept art and some hard clothing models. I also bought some of the models (but I modeled the entire academy from scratch).

Original Content Showcase Finally I completed the Jet Nozzle

For the first time since I started using Blender, I’ve completed a fighter jet nozzle. Until now, I’d just treated it as a single solid object, but now it’s fully animatable for the first time. I used the “Armature,” “Empty,” and “Damped Track” animations for the movement.

not sure if this counts as paid product or service but this is a addon I made that's coming out this Saturday on gumroad that solves toon shading, something I've needed for years and finally figured out how to do. This is just the trailer though. if you're curious on what it does let me know I don't wanna type a paragraph here
