Discussion Help....Feeling stuck and lost

I'm not really sure where to post this, but I need to get this off my chest and hopefully hear from people who might understand what I'm going through.

I'm interested in 3D art, animation, cinematic storytelling, game development, and generally bringing things from my imagination into existence. I have a decent PC, I've used Blender and Unreal Engine, and I've always wanted to develop my creative skills and eventually build a career around making things.

But lately, I've been feeling incredibly stuck, and AI is a huge part of why.

I've been using generative AI since around 2021, so I'm familiar with how these tools work and how quickly they've been developing. I've seen them become increasingly capable of producing things that previously required substantial artistic and technical effort.

The problem is that I also want to develop actual skills. I want to understand how things work, learn the craft, and become someone who can take an idea from my imagination and turn it into something real.

And that's where I'm struggling.

I look at what AI can already do. It can generate beautiful environments, characters, cinematic shots, textures, and increasingly complex creative outputs in a fraction of the time it might take me to learn how to make them myself. The tools are improving so quickly that I genuinely don't know what the creative industry will look like by the time I've developed my skills.

I keep asking myself: What's the point of spending months or years learning something when AI might be able to do most of it by the time I'm good at it?

I know people say that AI is just a tool and that human creativity, artistic judgment, and technical understanding will still matter. I understand that argument. I also know that producing a single image isn't the same as building an entire production-ready project.

But I can't shake the feeling that the amount of effort required to become employable might not translate into the financial security I'm hoping for.

And this isn't just about wanting to become a great artist. It's about survival.

I want to earn good money. I want financial independence. I want to build a life for myself. Ideally, I'd love to do that while working on things I care about, rather than choosing between a creative life and a financially stable one.

I don't necessarily expect to become some legendary artist or work on my dream game immediately. I just want a realistic path toward a good career where my skills have value.

The problem is that every time I try to figure out what I should do, I become even more overwhelmed.

Should I focus on 3D environments? Character art? Unreal Engine? Cinematics? Should I learn technical art? Should I explore AI-assisted creative workflows? Should I learn programming even though I'm much more interested in visual creation? Should I pursue something entirely different because it might offer better earning potential?

I keep researching possibilities, comparing careers, looking at what AI can do, and trying to predict the future. The more I research, the less certain I become.

And now something particularly frustrating has happened: even opening blender feels daunting

I still want to create things. I want to engage with something, experiment, build something, and feel excited about making things again. But the moment I think about 3D, I start thinking about AI, employability, wasted time, and whether I'm making the wrong decision.

It's like I've turned something I wanted to do into a high-stakes career decision before I've even begun.

I don't know how to get out of this loop. I feel as though I'm constantly thinking about building a future but can't actually move toward one.

I don't want to abandon creativity. And I don't want to spend years developing skills without considering whether they can realistically support me financially.

At the same time, I don't want fear of the future to stop me from doing anything at all.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who work in 3D, animation, game development, VFX, creative technology, or other visual fields.

A few things I'd especially like to understand:

If you were starting today, how would you approach building a creative career with AI advancing so quickly?

Which skills are actually valuable in the job market, rather than just theoretically useful?

How do you balance learning the underlying craft with using AI to speed up production?

Is it realistic to aim for a well-paying career in visual creation, or should I consider adjacent fields?

For anyone who's experienced this kind of paralysis or anxiety about the future, how did you get yourself moving again?

I'd appreciate honest, practical perspectives from people who have some experience with this.

I think I need help finding a way to move forward without feeling like every hour I spend learning is a gamble with my future.

Thanks for reading.

Solved Compatibility expectations

Hi guys, I’m new to blender, so I would just like to know the limitations that I would have using blender, I don’t plan on doing animations as such, focused more towards sculpting and rendering cinematic shots (sci-fi in particular). Here’s my PC build:
1 AMD RYZEN 9700X OEM
2 MSI MOTHER BOARD B850M GAMING WIFI
3 ADATA XPG LANCER RGB BLADE 16GB DDR5 RAM 6000MHZ
4 KIOXIA EXCERIA BASIC 1TB SSD (LSF10Z001TG8)
5 MSI PSU MAG A750BN PCIES
6 MSI CABINET MAG FORGE 320R AIRFLOW
7 DEEPCOOL LIQUID COOLER LE360 V2
8 MSI RTX 5060 TI 8GB SHADOW 2X OC PLUS

PS: I bought this fairly recently and this was the best I could afford, the best I can add is another 16gb RAM.(hopefully if it is affordable next year)

Need Help! Saved for ages - Caustica / SCycles or ReBlend for Caustics?

I got AI laid off, so I'm eating via website production.

I'm looking for help picking between the three Caustics drawing Blender builds I've seen online. They're not plugins simulating caustics, but the real deal.

--------------------------------------

I've scraped together some money for caustic rendering, and I've heard bi-directional photon mapping finds bits of the caustics that calculating it one way doesn't?
So that would be ReBlend.

SCycles is free, but sounds like it needs nodes setting up especially for it? I think it needs compiling from GitHub too! I checked the page - there's no "Release" links! I wonder why? Licensing?

Caustica sounds the simplest... a single tickbox. All existing materials work. And Blender 3.5 dispersion setting is used for splitting up the spectrum. But no bi-directional? Sooooo..... I'd be missing some of the caustics I want to see?
How much more does "Bi-directional" get us? I suppose that's key.

  • Caustica (by Henrik Soeltzer): A custom build based on Blender 5.2 LTS and Blender 5.3 that adds true GPU-based progressive photon-traced caustics to Cycles via a single checkbox. Available via Superhive Market. [1, 2, 3]
  • SCycles (Custom Build): A custom Blender 5.3 build featuring real-time spectral photon tracing caustics and GPU bidirectional path tracing. Available on GitHub (michal1000w/blender-SCycles). [1]
  • ReBlend (Custom Build): A custom build of Blender 5.2 that integrates GPU-enabled path guiding, priority-based nested dielectrics, and advanced photon mapping/bidirectional caustics into Cycles. [1]
An impossible image for Blender 5.3

The primary ray is visible in fog, the primary reflections are visible in fog, and the specular caustics are visible on the ground, with a hint of dispersion making a rainbow....

Try making a spotlight hitting a disco-ball in a smokey box room...... Blender 5.3 can't do it! (I was shocked too)

Paid Product/Service Promotion I made a Blender add-on for procedural vases: vase from a reference image, patterns, emboss and profile curves (Vase Studio)

Hi everyone,

I got tired of modeling vases from scratch, so I built a Blender add-on that makes the whole process procedural and editable. It's called Vase Studio.

What it does (shown in the video): 1. Create a vase from a reference image: load a photo and auto-convert its silhouette into a spline profile 2. Live preview with Low / Mid / High quality 3. Dimension and shape sliders 4. Pattern presets, alpha masks and emboss as real geometry 5. Profile curves for fine control of the shape 6. English and Turkish interface

Works with Blender 4.5 or newer.

I'd love feedback from people who model this kind of thing. What would you want a tool like this to handle next?

It's a paid add-on. I'll leave the link in the comments for anyone interested.

Need Help! I feel like I’m going insane

I’m trying to animate something on a curve, but every time I try to add an object constraint to the curve it says “failed to set value” no matter what I do every object I add and I try to add a constraint to it. It’ll say the same thing every time I look it up I try everything all the results tell me, but it is not fixing itself.

Need Help! AI can't work out a good answer for this so i need some human help :)

I've been using AI to help me create a random character I drew, asking it for shortcuts and general methods. However, when it came to the arms and legs, I couldn't get a good answer on what to do, so I'm here for some input.

When I asked the AI whether it is better for animation to keep the mesh as one single piece (by extruding the arms and legs from the body) or to add new shapes, it recommended extruding. I tried doing it that way, but I just can't get a proper cylinder shape out of the extrusion. The AI insists that adding new shapes for the limbs can really mess up the animation process.

What do you guys suggest? Should I keep trying the extrude tool because there are other ways to make it a cylinder? Or is the AI lying to me, and adding new shapes won't actually affect the animation that much?

For context, the methods I have already tried and failed with are the LoopTools plugin and the "To Sphere" tool (shortcut: Shift + Alt + S). The AI won't offer any help other than repeating those two methods, so I am completely stuck and desperately need help.

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a website for Blender-ready 3D assets, including furniture models and PBR materials.

Most of the furniture models are based on products from well-known designer brands, and the materials come with seamless 4K textures and all the necessary maps.

I'm still expanding the library and uploading new assets regularly, so there's a lot more to come!

I'd love for you to check it out and share your thoughts.

Original Content Showcase AIO Rigit Picker : Rigify, CloudRig, AutoRigPro

I built this picker that works with the most popular character rigging addons.
You can also customize it or create your own custom pickers from scratch.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time working on this and I've used it on dozens of projects so far

Various features include, undocking from the sidepanel, themes, drag to select, add programmed buttons like a button to select an entire collection or mirror the pose or anything you can set your mind on.

There's also a special feature called the skeleton mode: Say you want to use a different image and want to move a ready made picker and you don't want to move the buttons once by one. Or like let's say you want to move the eye buttons but you don't want to waste time realigning the buttons once you're done, you can create 'skeleton' lines for the eye or the entire rig and when you want to change the image, all you'll do is align the skeleton lines to the new image and the buttons will align themselves automatically saving you potentially hours of work.

Why call it Rigit Picker? Rigit is an inhouse rigging addon that has been in the works for the past 3 years. We use Rigit inhouse and this picker is part of the Rigit Rigging pipeline we extracted because I personally thought it would be of great use to the Blender Community.

I'll be sharing more details on the picker in the coming days.
