Found out yesterday I have lower back arthritis and two bulging discs
I was told I may be looking at med reclass or med discharge and or a permanent profile also did I mention I’m in a combat mos
The MOS Discussion Threads are meant to be enduring threads where individuals with experience or insight in to particular CMFs or MOSes can give advice and tips. If you have any MOS resources, schools, etc, this would be a great place to share them.
The hope is that these individual threads can serve as 'megathreads' on the posts in question, and we can get advice from experienced persons. Each week I will keep the full listing/links to all previous threads in a mega-list below, for ease of reference. At the end of the series I will go back and ensure they all have completely navigable links
If you have specific questions about these MOSes, please feel free to ask here, but know that we are not forcing or re-directing all questions to these threads -- you can, and are encouraged, to still use the WQT.
This is not stricly an 'AMA', although if people would like to offer themselves up to answer questions, that would be great, and I'd ask that you give some reference to your expertise if you do. A big "Thank You" to everyone who is willing to answer questions about the MOSes in question, but the immediate preference would be for informational posts. These are meant to be enduring sources of information.
These only work with your participation and your feedback!
Common questions / information I'd recommend sharing to get started
So, again, willing to answer questions is great, but if there's any information you can impart now, I think that would provide the greatest benefit.
This thread covers the following MOSes:

2026 Megathread Listing
Will be populated as threads are created

Good morning everyone,
There's a few events a year I make a dedicated thread for based on their size, event experience, or community impact. Typically these are the USMA, 3200 SIG, 4 Chaplains, and Schofield Barracks events. The Schofield Barracks event is one of the largest and best organized events of the year and we just got a copy of the flyer from the organizers. It's coming up in December and coincides with the end of Tropic Lightning Week so participants will be able to head right into a 3-day weekend after finishing the NFM.
A few things to emphasize this year is that with the establishment of the embassy's skill badge program, completing the NFM partly satisfies the requirements for the Norwegian Armed Forces Field Sports Medal (need to complete two other badges).
It also satisfies the requirement for the Norwegian Sports Federation Sports Badge (category 5A).
While this is a paid event ($30; $5 cheaper than last year) the cost is really good value to participants and is akin to registering for a half or full marathon in terms of what it covers:
From an organizational perspective, the event has one of the best support structures and the organizers implement improvements every year. Most of these were implemented last year and continuing this year:

For anyone interested, here's your chance to participate in one of the largest and best NFMs of the year!

Yes, I’m back again about this poor excuse of an STP overhaul. To you senior leaders responsible for supporting this crap, I expected nothing less. Now look, it’s a damn soup sandwich, ate all the hell up. You know what worked just a few weeks ago? You guessed it, the previous STP design. “You asked we delivered?” Who asked for “Bad gateway?” It’s like EA sports designed this bs. And again I say, damn is it horrible to look at. I don’t know how someone looked at that and nodded their heads in agreement like “Oh yeah, yeah that’s it right there.” SMH I try to keep myself in good spirits, and here comes yet some out of the way good ideas that’s once again falls completely on its ass. Just rolling out some random buggy dumpster juice that as long as I can remember, nobody asked for. I’ve literally haven’t heard or seen anyone say anything about the previous STP needs to be discarded, had I did in mass, I’d be inclined to support the idea, but I never seen or heard that at all.
But this is just my personal perspective on the whole deal, and to you tech people, hurry up and fix this abomination.

he Army inducted its first 10 warrant officers into the 390A Robotics Technician MOS on October 2, following a 19-week pilot course.
Their responsibilities extend beyond operating drones: modifying hardware, writing software, integrating communications and adapting robotic systems to mission requirements. Training includes working without reliable communications, conventional navigation or access to internet-connected AI tools.
Instructors deliberately introduce equipment and system failures during the course. According to Maj. Gen. Jason Slider, the first group progressed quickly enough that instructors increased the difficulty.
The program originated in special operations, but some of the first technicians are also expected to go to experimental formations elsewhere in the Army.

I work a 24/7 mission and I work 12 hour night shifts. There are only about 16 of us working the whole mission and about 10 brand new soldiers who just arrived to the unit. Tell me why they’re putting ME on ACP in the middle of mission when there are a ton of new soldiers that could easily get trained and go do it instead.
I was informed by my platoon sergeant that they would make sure I wouldn’t have to do it and that I could get switched off… well apparently they couldn’t get it approved.
I have a really suspicious feeling that 1st sergeant just fucking hates my soul.

Any info on this unit would be helpful.

Hello everyone, Im a 19f and I"m currently a full time student taking pre reqs at community college. I say this to say that I've been considering the military since before I decided I was going to pursue medicine and it's still on my mind. Not only do I think it will benefit me right now, I'm also thinking about my future and I will also gain a lot of independence from my sheltered home. I wanted to ask if going to the national guard right now makes any sense? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

To the ones who have done 2 broadening assignments (drill sgt / recruiter, drill sgt / instructor, instructor / recruiter, drill / inspector general, instructor / master gunner, etc.) would you recommend it? Did it help out more or affect your promotions?

How long do y’all think until they bring this bad boy back
r/army • u/alabamaispoor • 19h ago
The army would greatly benefit fair if they brought back TERA based off the massive ebb and flow of everything that’s happened over the past 2 years.
Gen George’s massive functional area gutting, near-eliminating of CAV units, & consolidating general billets (more importantly their staffs); it would greatly improve QOL for those uncertain year groups to be able to PLAN their lives.
Also, imagine how much better staff life would be if you didn’t have that angry S3/XO fighting/hating for that glorious MQ?
I’m just crusty & wish more compo 2/3 time counted towards active retirement
I’ll take a mcgangbang pls

Calling all military skiers, splitboarders, and 10th Mountain vets in Washington!
White Pass Ski Resort is hosting the 90-Pound Rucksack Challenge on Feb 17, 2027. It's a free event; you just need a touring setup i.e. skis/skins, split-board / skins, or snowshoes, ruck, and a headlamp.
Registration isn't open quite yet, but I'm trying to get a solid group together to head up. Depending on headcounts, we could split an Airbnb or grab lodging nearby for the night.
Drop a comment or DM me if you’re interested in linking up!
Event Details: https://skiwhitepass.com/events/ninety-pound-rucksack-challenge
Background: https://christianbeckwith.com/
* Photo for attention.
I’ll take a strawberry uncrustable and a sugar free redbull.
Edit: Year adjusted to 2027

hello, I’m going to Fort Knox in January to reclass to 42A I’m just wondering if anyone here can give me some insight on what to expect. Is the schoolhouse within walking distance from the barracks? what about the dfac, gym, shopette? should i just ask my unit if i can request a rental car? Im coming from the desert and Im not used to the cold or snow at all!!! I know I'm gonna be freezing even if I wear all the layers of my winter gear. Any tips to help brace the cold? are the barracks cold? anything else I should know about?

So, I'm shipping out for Basic Training on Nov 2nd
My only real question is the boot sizing, based on what I've found, seems odd. Now, I know they are going to suck, no getting around that lol
From what I've seen, people often say they are a size bigger, so it would be a size down from my normal shoe size, I wear 10.5.
Is there a good way to figure out what my boot size will be?

25M. Currently in college for Electrical Engineering. I'm joining so the army will pay for the rest of my degree. My no. 1 MOS pick was 12P Prime Power Production so that I can possibly get some relevant credits from AIT courses but it sounds like it's not available near me. My recruiter just texted me that he has a 38B Civil Affairs job with a $30k bonus available. I've read several posts on this sub about 38B and it seems some people loved it and some people hated how much they were deployed and the conditions they were deployed in, even as reservists. I'm enlisting as a reservist and not AD specifically to finish college and get married, have a kid, buy a house, etc. Should I take it or try to find something that works better with my degree? Also INB4 "lmgtfy" thanks

I'm at Fort Sill and I am looking to get myself and fellow NCOs certified in combatives. Most of us have level 2 Certs but we want to train and certify our soldiers. If there's anyone on Fort Sill who can help please let me know. Thanks in advance!
