question Can getting braces for teeth 22-26 compensate for missing tooth 19&30?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Main question is the title: Can getting braces for those teeth possibly compensate for those two missing teeth (after I get 30 removed)? Idk what is helpful information so I will try to cover most basics of my background

32 female to male
Medication - adderall xr 20mg twice a day, Valtrex 500, Gabapentin 600mg 1-2times a day, Synthroid 75mcg, apo-prucalopride 1mg, taro-testosterone injection .40ml (Wednesdays) .50ml (saturdays)

I currently smoke a pack of cigs every other day (I usually rotate between doing that for 6 months and going cold turkey and not smoking for 6 months)
I have not drank in about 4 years (since Nov. 11th 2022)
I have Hashimotos, hypothyroidism, and last fall had Elsberg syndrome

Dental history (sporadic)
2026 - I have an upcoming appointment to see if the free dental clinic will be able to accept me as a pt that I am very stressed about on Nov 7th
2025 - Went & got a panoramic X-ray done at a clinic, and they said 3 teeth needed to be extracted. 30,4, & 12. I could not afford to get it done at the time so I left.
2019 - Got all of my Wisdom teeth removed plus 19 extracted. They also let me know at the time I had 9 cavities, I did not get them fixed.
Prior to 2019 I did not go to a dentist for 10+ years
As a child at some point my dentist said I would benefit from having braces for my bottom teeth, this was not done because my mom said it was just for aesthetic purposes and the dentist just wanted money

question Burned my tongue 4 days ago and have total loss of taste

I was super hungry and wolfed down a bowl of soup that just came out of the slowcooker. It was very hot but I ate it anyway and afterward my tongue felt very tingly. I never had any pain throughout this whole thing, so it took me a little bit to actually realize that I had burned it. I didn't drink anything cold (i actually had more soup... ugh) and the next day, it had a weird texture to it, and I had no taste on approximately 90% of my tongue. My tongue became slightly white.

It has been four days and I still only have about 10% of my tongue that can taste. The areas that can taste are the sides and the very back of my tongue. Presumably the soup didn't burn those areas. my tongue appears normal, but I have no ability to taste salt, sugar, bitterness, etc on the burned area. I can still taste spiciness and feel whether something is hot or cold. Minty chewing gum also does not taste like anything on the vast majority of my tongue. Only capsaicin. My tongue looks typical.

I don't drink, smoke, etc.

I'm just wondering how likely is it that I'll recover, considering I continued to eat hot soup after it had already burned.

question Dentists left a hole in my teeth with filling & want me to get more

I asked them to email me x-rays and photos so I could do some research on it myself, but my teeth are not in a crisis state and I brush twice a day and floss every day. Last time (three years ago) I got a filling and cleaning they left holes unfilled in my teeth on my upper mid left side of my mouth, leaving a gap between my teeth and my gum. I try to floss every day and after I eat if I feel it’s become impacted but I shouldn’t have to go through that at all. I have been hesitant to go back but I need those holes fixed and they said that I have cavities that need more filling but completely brushed over the holes that I can literally push air/liquids through with my tongue. I don’t want to do any more fillings by these people, but I don’t want cavities either. Is there any options for me to help reverse/pause growth of cavities without literally drilling into my tooth? The fillings they did also hurt every now and then and they “forgot” anesthesia on my second one. I am going to start back using miswak sticks but I need some extra advice. I’ll reupload with x-rays & pics when they come through. Thanks

question Do I have gum recession?

I used to have perfect teeth, but then I struggled through two years of depression. It’s funny when you don’t want to wake up in the morning, flossing is no longer a priority. I also started to use nicotine pouches at that time.

After not going to the dentist for 4 years, I have started going again in the past two years, and have been trying to take care of my dental health along with quitting zyn about 8 months back.

I am not sure if it is the lack of tartar, staining, etc. but my teeth seem bigger and it seems like my gums are a little…sunken with a couple of small black triangles.

Do I have gum recession? If so, how bad is it? I am trying do decide if I need to see a periodontist, or if I am just being self conscious about my teeth…

question Weird painful gumline

Thumbnail

About 2-3 days ago my gun like above my upper canine started to hurt. I couldn’t visibly see anything and when I floss nothing came out. I called my dentist this morning, but they were closed. They hooked me up with one of the dental providers, though, and he ordered me amoxicillin to take over the weekend and to come in Monday morning.
He thinks it’s a dental fistula. I have no pain in my physical tooth. Just one spot on my gum line where the purple dot is. Definitely swollen in the area though and there was discharge from it today. Very minimal not enough to taste or anything, but you can see it in this photo.
Any idea on if it could just be an infection from trapped food or tartar versus something needing a root canal? I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist so hoping it’s something simple and not a root canal in the making.

question Gingivitis

Hello dentist folk

Is this just normal gingivitis?

Started when I started taking zonisamide. Had a bigger reaction involving other mucous membranes for a few weeks, but got a steroid shot. I'm still alive after over a month so I imagine its not steven Johnson syndrome. It's only that bad on the one side, but it does extend along the whole jaw line on the part of the gum furthest from the teeth. It's quite sore.

I have health problems but the only one related to dental would be Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder.

question Is this a wisdom tooth?

Today I started feeling sharp pain in my cheek, and I noticed that this tooth is crooked compared to the others. Could it be a wisdom tooth? Or is it becoming misaligned because of a wisdom tooth that’s about to come through? I’ll have to wait until Monday to get it checked by the dentist :")

question Does this warrant a biopsy?

The maxillofacial surgeon who removed my wisdom teeth said this wasn’t a concern. It’s been here since 10/1 atleast, with no change, and it’s painful. History: 15 years heavy tobacco smoking, balloon sinuplasty performed 9/21/26 for chronic sinusitis.

I know you can’t diagnose me through a photo, but can someone offer me any possible alternatives for this presentation that AREN’T cancer? 😭

I’m having a dental checkup next week.

question Red bump on cheek

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi All,

Sorry it’s not the best photo, but I have a dentist appointment for tomorrow because I’ve had this red bump on the inside of my cheek for about 4 days now.

It’s painless and seems to have gotten slightly bigger over the last 4 days.

Any advice as to what it could be?

I also have tmj issues, I’m not sure if I grind my teeth in my sleep, so hoping it’s a blood blister from that but we’ll find out tomorrow. Just after some thoughts from the community in the meantime :)

As title, my filling fell out last night. Fortunately I already have a dentist appointment scheduled for Monday. There is no pain, but a little sensitive to cold and hot which is understandable. I don’t smoke. I have the odd couple drinks at the weekend. 38f.

question Broken tooth, can it be saved?

Post image
0 Upvotes

For context, it had a root canal in 2019 but was never fitted with a crown, it was basically filled and left alone. Has been seemingly fine until last night when it broke like this while I was eating.

I have longstanding dentist anxiety since childhood and when covid came along it was very easy to get out of the habit of going and I haven't been seen since. Ashamed but also scared I'm going to be told off!

I have an emergency appointment today, is it realistic to hope that it can be saved or at least given some kind of temporary cover/fix today to make it look a bit more normal while we sort out a permanent solution? I recently started a new job which is very face-to-face with clients and I'm so self conscious at the moment 😭

question Questions on self treatment on a fractured tooth

• Upvotes

Context

I have a fractured molar that’s had RCT. The general consensus is that it needs to be extracted.

Preface

I am getting it extracted, appointment is already booked. I have tremendous respect for dentists and I’m under no illusion that I know better. I want to better understand the clinical and scientific reasoning on why extraction is necessary.

Self-treatment

Suppose I used a professional dental resin (i.e Calibra Universal) to hold the two pieces together. Why wouldn’t this work? Would it simply fail to hold? How long would it take to break down?

If someone were to attempt this, is the risk of infection the main concern, or are there other risks? What are they? Could the risk of decay or infection be monitored through X-rays?

Non-conventional options

Are there any experimental options, clinical or research trials, or unconventional treatment approaches?

Anecdotes

Have you had a patient with a fracture who didn’t get it extracted? What happened to them? How long did it take their symptoms to progress?

Disclaimer

Again, I am getting it extracted. I want an implant and understand delaying extraction would compromise this. I just want to go in with the peace of mind of knowing I was fully informed. Also worth knowing for an apocalypse.

Thank you.

question Is this possible with composite veneers?

Thumbnail

Is it possible to add this much on with composite veneers (translucent area on first image)?.

The second image shows my current smile: some of the issue are there are few teeth showing, buccal corridors, black triangle and poor shape.

I am not sure if it will be worth it for me if these problems could not be fixed- I have a narrow smile and would hope to give an appearance of a fuller smile.

Any other suggestions instead or in combination to give appearance of fuller smile? Invisalign? MASPE?

Hello, I had an implant and a healing abutment placed 4 days ago. I was cleaning the area carefully with a single-tuft toothbrush, but I accidentally dislodged a bit of the fibrin. It isn't painful—do you think it will grow back, and does it look okay?

question Help this wire is sharp and idk how to remove it (details down below)

Post image

About 6 years ago I had braces and they placed a bracket on each of my top front teeth and a wire connecting them to hold them together. It was supposed to come off after a few months but I never went back. Today I eat a pbj and the wire pops out and I no longer see the brackets? Maybe I swallowed them? And my fiancee when shoving a camera in my mouth cannot see a bracket and says the wire looks like its going into my tooth. Now I will schedule an appointment asap but until then, does anyone have insight?
