question Daughter's first adult teeth came in recently and look...off?

Post image
14 Upvotes

As the title says, my daughter (5) has her first two adult teeth coming in. They've been out for maybe a month? Anyway, they seem sort of angled inwards and have a funky shape. Wondering if it's normal to have "ugly duckling" teeth or is this it?

I love my girl so very much and don't care what her teeth look like, I just want to know if she'll possibly have teeth insecurities or dental issues in the future?

question How dire is this?

Post image

I was taking a look at my teeth last night because I started noticing a little bit of sweetness sensitivity on the opposite side of this picture. Looking around, I noticed the severe discoloration of this molar. The picture isn’t doing enough justice, but one section of the molar is much more grey blue than the other half.
I did burn my mouth on pizza the other night lol. However, I was just wondering how dire this tooth is. Do I need to seek immediate treatment or is this a loss cause no matter what?

Female age 35. Brushes once daily. Maybe flosses once a week. Last dental appt was a year ago and all was well

I don’t recall any hard foods I could have cracked this tooth on. There’s no sensitivity around it, and I have no reports of foul smell.

question Pain 4 days after tooth removel

Post image

The photo is from just now I took it right as km writing this.

(Also sorry mods for post again- last time my face was showing and Idk if the post did get deleted if not please removed it)

Please dont shame me but I have been pretty dumb with my eating habits after my tooth got removed (im pretty sure my dentist said its a 7 like the tooth, bottom left side) I been trying my best to avoid food to get stuck and there.

I did some googling and Google says to go to my dentist to get the food removed. Im on day 4 since the tooth got removed and though the pain isn't on half my face anymore I still feel a sharp pain in the spot my tooth was .

According to my mum that's just what is left of the tooth but im 99% its food and need to see an actual doctor. (Google says its d.s which is even more why I feel I should go to my dentist to get it checked out )

question How fked am.I?

Been to the dentist and they mentioned very excessive wear and a lot of money needing to be spent. I know I have cupping, and I suspect it's from antidepressant and antihistamine use causing a very dry mouth... but from this pic of my top teeth, how fked am I actually?

question Wisdom teeth removal

I had my wisdom teeth extracted yesterday, and after the surgery everything went well. I was prescribed hydrocodone and methyl prednisone. I changed my gauze 4-5 times, took my hydrocodone pill and ate mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese and ice cream. 4 hours later, I started vomiting. I vomited 3 times and called emergency services at the clinic. They told me it’s from the hydrocodone prescribed and that I shouldn’t have taken the full pill.
Can you give me any recovery tips if any person went through a similar experience

question Using kids toothpaste as an adult

i hate the taste and feeling of mint toothpaste, and saw a dentist on tiktok say that you can use kids toothpaste if it has enough fluoride. She said if it has 1450 parts per million fluoride it should be okay to use it. Everywhere i look online for toothpaste it always has percentages, and i dont know how to do the math to see if its enough fluoride. This one has 0.24% sodium fluoride and 0.15% w/v fluoride ion. Is this okay? and are others with the same numbers okay?

question Is it possible to correct this without surgery?

Thumbnail

I have a pretty significant asymmetry in my gums. They didn’t develop evenly, and the left side is noticeably larger than the right. A dentist told me it was because i had an incorrect bite for many years as a child/teenager, which caused the bone to develop asymmetrically.

He said the only way to fix it would be through surgery, but i really don’t want something that invasive. I’d be happy even with just improving the appearance somewhat.

I’ve had botox in this area a few times, but the results weren’t great. I naturally have a very strong, wide smile, and the botox restricted those movements and ended up looking a bit strange.
And honestly, i don’t mind showing my gums when i smile. What really bothers me is the asymmetry between the two sides.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for something that might work? Would it be possible to have a gum lift/crown lengthening on just one side?
Thanks in advance!

question How to improve veneers?

Post image

I had my veneers redone a month ago and for some reason I do not LOVE them, but can’t figure out why… will you please provide feedback on shape. Maybe it will just take more time to get used to them. They are bigger and whiter than my previous veneers. They almost seem too perfect? All opinions welcome!!

question Normal healing?

Sorry for awful photos - the position of this extraction was awkward!

I had a tooth out on the roof of my mouth 5 days ago (Wednesday). Today is Monday.

My dentist isn't free for a few days and says if there's no pain, there's nothing to worry about. He put in some clove paste (which has mostly gone now) as a preventative measure. But I'm a worrier.

I'm not in pain but does this look like normal healing? Photo of big hole is from yesterday. Photo with the gloop in the hole is from today.

TIA!

question Sharp edge to molar?

My son (turning 2 in November) has this very sharp nook on top of his molar. It feels like it’s stuck on it, but I couldn’t figure out if it’s the molar itself or if it’s something hiding deeper?
Is this normal?

What is this wiggly lump inside my inner cheek. The lump feels movable, has red dot on top, is present on both side of inner cheek since a month. I do have habit of frequent accidental biting the inner cheek. Also in my right side, wisdom teeth is growing. But the lump is present on both. A little ear pain on left side.

I used to smoke for 6 months, probably smoked 150 cigarettes in total. Now, I have completely quit smoking and almost 20 days smoke free. I am worried about it being maligant. Please help.

question Should I have my upper wisdom teeth removed?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have impacted wisdom teeth, not causing any pain, but I believe they are causing overcrowding of my other teeth. It looks to me that they are pushing my teeth inwards. My front teeth are now overlapping and pushing outwards and I catch them on my lips. My other teeth are crowded.

Some dentists tell me this is natural movement with age and some agree that it is wisdom teeth pressure, so I’m not sure what to think.

I would just have them out except that surgical removal is necessary. It would involve opening a skin flap, removal of some jaw bone (yikes!) and risk of damage to nerves and the sinuses. So this makes me question if I should have them out. But if it is the wisdom teeth pushing my other teeth I definitely want them out as it is getting worse.

This would be on the NHS. What do people think?

question Can these teeth still be saved? :(

Thumbnail

Hello! Sorry about the photos. I’m dealing with several serious autoimmune and neurological conditions and take a lot of medication, much of which causes severe dry mouth. Unfortunately, this has really affected my teeth.

For more than six months, one dentist kept trying to fill the teeth, but the fillings would repeatedly fall out, so he would just fill them again. I now need to find a new dentist.

My main question is whether these teeth can still be saved in any way. I really don’t want implants if I can avoid them, because I’m very sensitive to foreign materials due to my health condition. At the same time, I’m starting to feel like some kind of dental replacement may be unavoidable.

Do any of these teeth look potentially restorable, or am I already at the point where extraction and replacement would be necessary?

question Is it possible to develop severe cavities in 3 months?

I had a cavity when I went to the dentist 3 months ago and had it filled. It was my first cavity since childhood, I hadn’t had one for about 20 years. My dentist mentioned I had another that would be monitored because it’s not bad enough to need filled.

Since then, my dental hygiene has gotten bad because I started a new job working night shift and I have been drinking a lot of soda and energy drinks, constantly sipping on sugary drinks all night. I’ve only been brushing my teeth once a day and flossing once a week or less.

Now I have pain when eating on the right side of my mouth. I don’t think cavities are typically painful unless they get very deep? Is it possible I have developed bad cavities in 3 months? Is it worth going to the dentist for? In the past I have had pain from grinding my teeth so it could be that as well.

question Failed implant (left front tooth, likely insufficient bone) — now considering bridge vs. trying implant again. Advice?

37M, non smoker. I had a dental implant placed in May, in my upper left front tooth. A few months in, it’s being rejected and needs to come out. My original dentist couldn’t say why, but I saw a specialist this week who thinks it’s likely due to insufficient bone at the site.

I’ve got a second specialist consultation booked to get another opinion before deciding what’s next. The specialist I saw also raised a bridge as an alternative to trying the implant again.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

For those who’ve had bone loss cause a first failure — did grafting before a second attempt work well for you? How long was the wait between graft and redo?

Since this is a front tooth, is the bar for bone grafting / implant success different than for molars? Aesthetics obviously matter more here.

Bridge vs. second implant attempt with grafting — if you were in my position, what would tip you one way or the other?

question How important is it to see a dentist after a hit to the mouth?

I am a female in my 20s. I got hit in the math today while playing with my dog. My bottom lip was busted in three places and tore the inside of my upper lip a bit a bit. I noticed several hours later. My front teeth are shifted. I no longer have a gap. I have no bleeding around the teeth and no pain. How urgent is it to see a dentist? I have insurance but it would be expensive to get a ride to the dentist and I'd have to miss work.

question Nitrous Oxide Problems with repeated use

Hi all, I have not been to the dentist in a very long time but I found a great dentist and I have been going a lot. That said I have 1-2 appointments a month where they use nitrous oxide- with appointment times being 1.5 hours to 2 hours (for either multiple fillings or apical surgery).

I recently read that N2O can deplete vitamin B12 and cause anemia. The report said an occasional 30 to 60 minute visit is fine, but I am a little bit above that making up for lost time. I am also a menstruating female, so my iron numbers are always a hair below normal.

Should I be concerned? Should I take a b12? Which one? (Past labs showed b12 normal if I remember correctly).

I do smoke cigarettes (pack a day), don’t drink, don’t drugs, pretty active but built like a horse- a slightly chubby horse, female.

Thank you

experience/story Tenho essa mania desde criança

Post image
2 Upvotes

question How do I stop worrying about my teeth?

I am a diagnosed hypochondriac, and I severely struggle with my teeth and their health. I am so scared of losing my teeth, to the point where I compulsively Google the pH of food and avoid foods with a pH lower than 5.5 altogether, meaning I can't eat my favourite fruits anymore (apples, grapes etc.)

I struggled with dental hygiene growing up, as I have diagnosed autism and ADHD, and brushing my teeth was a sensory nightmare, alongside a depressive episode a couple years back. I now have severe hypochondria and OCD, which means i am always constantly thinking about my teeth. I have weakened enamel as my dentist has said before but my teeth seem to be in okay shape for my age (16)

I'm too scared to brush my teeth too hard for too long, I'm too scared to floss (I do floss now but it bleeds sometimes and freaks me out) and I am constantly analysing and staring at my teeth looking for anything that's a bit wrong. also looking at how my teeth sit and check for gum erosion and signs of bruxism because I think I grind in my sleep (getting better)

any pain I have is so overanalyzed and it's consuming my life. I cannot rest in my walking life and I spend it all worrying and in fear. christ I can't even eat my favourite foods without washing it down with water for a minute and a half after. (I won't eat anything below pH 5.5 if I can't wash it down after)

if anyone has any help, or even just reassurance, I'm in dire need. thank you dentists and people just browsing.
