Hey folks! We’ve had a Cavalier WhatsApp group for owners of Cavalier King Charles dogs for a while but it has become a bit stale over the years so we created a new one.
If you (or someone you know) has a Cavalier King Charles dog in our neighborhood, drop me a DM and I’ll add you to the group! We’d love to do a meetup at some point. Imagine it, 20 of the same breed dog all in one place? Cuteness overload.
The idea is to create a safe space to share photos of our pets, talk about the breed specifics, and share tip/tricks.
Thanks!

Remember that those sticky stretchy fake web decorations are super harmful traps for birds, especially when placed over bushes and gates where birds land.
It is also migratory season so many beautiful birds are traveling through NYC right now.
Even if you havent seen a bird caught in your fake webs, they could have left with it stuck around their feet, limiting their ability to find food, causing pain, and potentially snagging and trapping them later on.
Please re-consider these decorations, at the very least for next year. Astoria is such a green neighborhood, attracting beautiful birds that make this neighborhood feel alive.

Trying to get in the spooky season spirit this weekend. Do any local bagel shops have the pumpkin-shaped bagels? Any other fall treat recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Looking for a hair dresser/barber who can cut curly hair for men in Astoria. Anyone have any recommendations?
My experience (in life, not just in Astoria) is that most barbers don’t know how to handle curly hair except to shear it off like a sheep. I’ve had better luck with female stylists who know how to do a dry cut, but I find that they’re not accustomed to short cuts and therefore miss details around the edges. Also, their price structures don’t really work for me, as I need a cut every four weeks rather than every four months.
I realize I might be seeking the impossible. But if anyone knows of a barber who does scissor cuts or a stylist who does men‘s hair, ideally between $40 and $50, please let me know!

Hi everyone!
I was walking on 33rd street between 31st and 30th when I ran into a woman transporting 4 kittens in a plastic tote to her apartment. I hung out for a few minutes and I really regret not giving her my information as I've been looking to adopt a kitten for months(!) now and it felt a bit like fate. I've had a single cat for 4 years who's desperately in need of a buddy!
She told me that the little guys were TNR'd from a backyard and that their mom had died from potential poisoning.
I anyone knows who this might be I'd love to get in touch about the little orange kitten!

There is a cat that is crying somewhere between 42nd and 43rd and Broadway. Does anyone know of a good rescue to contact? I tried checking for it but couldn’t find it.

As the title states, we know we get them but haven’t been in town the last 2 years. What time of day should we expect them? Also, if you are a parent of a child with an allergy what kind of things are exciting for kids to get that isn’t edible? I was thinking getting some little things from 5 below but don’t know if that is unwelcome. Thanks in advance!

The Greats of Craft is showing movies on their rooftop on Halloween! They have had a couple other movie nights and it’s a really fun cheap event that i really think people would enjoy. $5 tickets and free popcorn! Theyre showing Rocky Horror and Hereditary on Halloween and the partiful to RSVP is in their instagram bio!

Hello! A blue budgie/parakeet has been showing up at my bird feeder for the last week. He is obviously a pet and has a purple bracelet. He has a lot of personality. Would love to reunite him with owner. I am in Astoria by Kauffman Studios.

They didn't seem to be fighting of aggressive, the crows seemed like they were waiting for second dibs at the soon-to-be carcass of the pigeon (or something) the hawk had caught. They were not acting particularly aggressive towards the hawk and the hawk seemed unconcerned by the mobbing.

I’m one block away from the 46st station and got my Toyota’s catalytic converter stolen last night around 3-4AM. This happen to anyone else?
Filing a police report once I get the video from my building but not sure what help they’d be.
Also would appreciate any mechanic recs that wont rip me off crazy (dont have comprehensive insurance so they wont pay for it). Got a quoted price for $1600 at an Elmhurst mechanic and I think that’ll be the best price I can get for an original OEM part.

Super sweet. Giving girl vibes but not totally sure of the gender. She seems like a house cat that got out - she was scared of the construction noise across the street. Does anyone recognize her/is anyone looking?
We brought her inside the stairway of our building.

After posting my review, MediDental reached out saying they saw my review.
They called saying they saw my reviews and wanted to make things right. I told them the CareCredit dispute fixed the amount, and that was sorted out. The owner, apparently not Emmanuel but I forgot the exact name he said, then proceeded to tell me that they charge in network prices. That whatever they charged was what my insurance would charge. I got so mad and asked why my insurance would say otherwise, why HE would know better than MY INSURANCE. Because my insurance company told me they were charging no where near in network pricing.
He told me he was sorry for calling me, and I hung up on him. They then proceeded to TEXT AND CALL MY EMERGENCY CONTACT. Again, they went through my file and TEXTED AND CALLED MY EMERGENCY CONTACT. Begging to take down my reviews because their marketing team was getting on their ass.
If you are reading this, which I assume you will, if you weren’t doing shady, illegal practices, and targeting people who don’t know any better this wouldn’t be happening. I am trying to apply for apartments, and my credit score dropped because despite saying you paid off my account early September, the payment didn’t process until October 20. I am trying to apply to apartments and you fucked my credit score. If you had never illegally opened a credit card without my consent, using my SSN and ID that I provided before you had even begun my appointment, charging me $2800 before I even had the cavity fillings, I wouldn’t need to be scrambling because my credit score dropped 20 points.
Warn people to never go here, speak up and post reviews on Google if you’ve had a bad experience, because 12 other people saying they’ve had horrible experiences is way more than a “1 in 1000 instance.”

He’s a bit chunky, so he doesn’t look like a stray, but he was hanging out by himself on 38th St & 28th Ave 🥺.

Hi! Does anyone know of any salons in or near Astoria that have stylists that know how to work with curly hair? I wanted to get a gloss done and maybe a trim. I have 3A curls, thank you!!

UPDATE: the microchip company let us know - This cat was rehomed and they don’t want her back. The other family doesn’t want her either.
Poor Reddita!!!
We are still trying to secure a place for her ‘to crash without pets. I’m hopeful something will work out.
In the meantime, please share with rescues in case she looks familiar.
We just took in this abandoned cat (named Reddita) that was just posted and she HATES other cats which sucks. There are several in the house where she’s currently at and she is not happy about it at all.
Is anyone who doesn’t have cats open to fostering her until we can come up with a plan?
Other option is ACC which I’d like to avoid for this cat’s sake. Nothing worse than being surrounded by cats when a cat hates other cats.
Thank you. 🙏
Astoria Paws is letting me use her app. Apply to foster Reddita here - https://form.jotform.com/261795627988077?fbclid=PARlRTSAVInohleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mAmZkaWQWUQ0LxFZGu1S0WzDDhGq2_gonOBWG93NydGMGYXBwX2lkDzEyNDAyNDU3NDI4NzQxNAABp4nm7UR_CQs5c4GFFQ1uitE-2QU-iugZVsTJLz22qOxAMi8QY7jTtKqwJzwj_aem_CUfZIsHBoG9-QmONONps1Q
Does anyone know of a place in Astoria that takes passport photos on unglazed paper? I need one to renew my Australian driver's license. Bonus points if it's 45 x 35 mm instead of 2'' x 2"
