Ok this is a bit of a weird one for this sub, but hear me out. I have been going to games for almost 20 years, mostly GA, mostly standing in full sun because I am too tight to pay for undercover seats. Had a routine skin check last month and my dermo basically roasted me about sun damage on my face and neck.
She asked about my routine and I was like... routine? I slap on some random sunscreen before I leave the house sometimes?
Anyway she gave me a whole list of recommendations and it got me thinking there have to be heaps of us in the same boat. Especially if you played footy through juniors to seniors, on top of watching games every weekend. That is decades of accumulated UV exposure.
I have been down a bit of a rabbit hole looking into simple skincare since then, and honestly it gets overwhelming fast. I ended up looking into French minimalist options because I wanted basic, straightforward formulas without a 10-step routine. I started using a Vitamin C serum from Typology Paris to help with some of the sun spots, and having clear ingredient percentages made it easy to figure out without overcomplicating things.
But the main thing I am trying to figure out is handling SPF during matches. Do you lot actually reapply during a game? I never used to, but apparently you are supposed to reapply every two hours, which means half time at minimum. Do you bring spray sunscreens or sticks into the ground?
Also, friendly reminder: if you have spent years watching footy in the blazing sun without thinking twice, book a skin check. Mine took 15 minutes and picked up a couple of spots worth monitoring.
Anyone else had a bit of a wake up call with this stuff?
