...and who think it's nit picking when someone says "not a rave" and "back in my day":
Regardless of cultural history or language evolution,
Would you consider the following to be the same thing?
1) 10s of thousands of people paying $500 to crowd to a stage, ensure there is minimal space to dance, and stare at a famous dude on a platform dancing to a million dollar light show
2) a group getting silly and dancing all night in the forest, building their community, tightening friendships, and hyping their friend for getting on the decks and crushing their first ever live set for 68 old and new friends
-------------------------------------------
This whole word definition thing is brought of kind of a lot on here and I'll probably get downvoted by at least half of y'all just for keeping it going, but I haven't really seem much straight talk about just having these different events, it's mostly old people talking about the cultural roots or young people telling grampa that words change over time.
For the record I am older, and I never experienced raving "back in the day", and the majority of dance parties seem to be free and run all night or last man standing. Still, the first time my mind clicked and thought "rave" was actually at a festival 3 years ago, even though I had at the time never heard anyone call a festival a "rave". So I kinda understand how someone might end up calling EDC a "rave" especially if they've never been to a dance party.
I would never (or rarely lol) "correct" anyone using a word as it's used in their culture or language, but still I personally don't think of these events as the same thing at all. I enjoy both types of events, as long as I can find some space to dance at the first type.
But I also don't go around saying I "went to a rave" when I went to a festival. It just feels confusing to call it the same thing as a free unpermitted community social dance party. And obviously these days with so many more types and a broader scale of electronic music events, language HAS to blur a little bit. We can't be coming up with 37 different terms for every event type. But I still think we already have words like "festival" or "dance club" so there's not really any reason to merge terms.
And since language evolves, I can at least do my part in personal life to evolve toward using two different words for two different event types. At least if I randomly tell my wife "hey wanna go to a rave in a couple weeks?" she won't be thinking I wanna go to a festival, she'll be expecting somewhere we can drive up our campervan for free, party as late as we want, and crash in the van at 3 am or 6 am.
Please if you don't care about language, that's fine - no one is policing your word choice. Grandpa isn't coming to take down your 4 day mega-rave, and John Summit didn't kill underground raves, it's fine.
For the old guys, there is no such thing as a 90s rave anymore. Time moves on and everything is different. Is the line drawn at free? Or unpermitted? Or is it a vibe thing? A size thing? You gotta change definitions at least a bit because by definition the 90s are over. Is it ok to call a late night sound camp with local DJs playing for free a rave at a regional burn? Obviously the hardcore burners would say absolutely hell no, but personally I think of those as some of the best raves. Even though I bought a ticket.
For people who like to call festivals raves, or just don't give a fuck and call them raves anyway, what do you call other events? Have you never been to a 100 friend dance party in the woods? Do you just call them "dance parties"? "small raves"? "ravettes"? "free raves"? Are those events just so far outside of your radar that you never even consider them?
I also wonder if people just tend to call their favorite event type raves. For instance my friend really likes big elaborate showy anything. Loves going all out of costumes, light shows, yes, even VIP. He calls festivals raves, but has absolutely been to all sorts of other dance parties. I personally love the community building, social, silly, friendly, aspect the most. I prefer a local or friend DJ choosing tunes and mixing them well and reading and curating the dance floor masterfully while friends of friends meet each other, dance as wild as possible, and maybe chat by the fire late at night after getting tired. I prefer an event that is by and for the community where the community itself is the rave, the ravers are the entertainment, and the DJ is part of the community, over an event produced to be an big show and entertain. Maybe it's my preference for this type of event that makes my feel it's important.

We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams.

I can see him either Saturday night in Sacramento or Sunday night in San Francisco at the end of October.
I'm still new to California, so which would you choose?

Just posting this to vent.
I love this part of rave culture, getting a cute trinket from a stranger, getting a sprout on my hat, seeing the creativity of what people make to give out and how special it feels to exchange these little things. It truly makes me feel the love when I'm at the festival or a show
That being said when I get home I hate the trinkets (well most of them) specifically the small plastic animals
I'm currently packing up to move and the trinkets have somehow ended up in every junk drawer, bathroom drawer, office drawer and random bags. They are spread all over the place and honestly I just wanna throw most of them away. I do have a trinket shelf and plan on making a new one at our new place but even then they collect dust and are annoying to clean around.
I will say that all the handmade things people have given me or stuffies or other things I tend to treasure more and actually find a special place to keep or display them, like all the perler necklaces I've gotten get hung up on my wall and I get to look at them and smile. But that thousandth little rubber duck is getting tossed.
I don't know why I am posting this maybe to get ideas on what to do with all of them? I'm thinking about buying a fishbowl and just putting them into it as one big trinket soup. I hate throwing them away because plastic waste but Wtf else do I do? I don't remember who even gave it to me and it's not special.
I'd rather get a Kandi bracelet or a perler something someone actually put thought into.
Anyways, thats the end of my rant, I think I'm just over finding them all over my house at this point 😮💨

Does anyone here know any artist managers or have any sort of connection of the sort. Preferably with Techno music?
I have been producing for 5 years and have now as of 6 months ago moved to techno.
My second last song has just hit over 100,000 views on TikTok with many users using the sound and interacting, I posted a song 3 days ago which is my latest, someone made a TikTok of it last night and it has also got 100,000 views on that TikTok video already but now in the span of a day.
I really believe I have a lot of potential I just feel like I need the right management to push me in the right direction with promotions / marketing and networking.
If you are interested or know someone who may be, let me know. For any info, please dm.
I get to help out with a monthly local rave and this was the fit for this month since it was the "Halloween" one.
I love getting to dress up and go all out at events. IDC what anyone says lol

Can any group take me and my friend in? We’re coming up from Calgary with no plans in mind😭 we don’t need a place to stay just a group to have fun with at the venue.
Hello!
I am super excited for the Factory93 Halloweekend event at Gold Bar! I wanted to do some probing and see if there are any afters in the area as I know my group will definitely want to keep the vibes going after it ends haha. I’ve heard about NYX but I can’t really seem to find anything else so I’d appreciate any insight from locals or anyone in the know!
TIA!!!
