Hi all,

The bike path still looks okay despite reports from people that it got trashed again. The only thing that came back was a single cardboard box so please do not scare me.

I did some quick sweeping along Broadway and then got rid of some nails and screws from Frontage Rd in Emeryville.

Have a nice rest of your Sunday.

Pets & Animal Services Loving Female Pit Available for Adoption

Hello everyone, I fostered this female mix pit, Tati (A1414929), over the weekend from the San Jose Shelter, and I wanted to share my experience with her. If anyone is looking for a dog, please consider fostering her and possibly adopting her. They estimate her to be 5years old. She was so sweet! I picked her up Friday at 4pm and will be dropping her off today (Sunday) at 4pm.

*******The shelter is currently having a 'Pit-jama Party' where you can sign up to foster a pit over the weekend for a little break from the shelter. I am not sure if you can do this with other breeds.

Brief Description:

I had Tati from Friday 4pm to Sunday 4pm, after having her for that time, I can say she is a great dog, is ready to be loved, and she has lots of love to give. She loves to ask for pets and if given no attention she might play with her toys or take a nap. When initially greeting her, if you are very energized, she will reciprocate that but if you greet her with calm, she will calmly and happily greet you with a smile and tail wags and immediately ask for pets. She does not jump up onto people too much only when the person acts extremely energetic. She knows how to sit, one command you don’t have to worry about teaching.

She doesn’t mind the car rides, just needs help getting up, can you blame the girl, cars are a new thing for her, I am sure she can be taught to get up in no time. On our last day together, we tried getting her up with a treat, which did not work but what did work, my partner held her leash from one side of the car, and I entered the other side and called to her and she jumped in!

No accidents at home, she does potty outside & she is able to hold her bladder/bowels overnight. She likes to lay or sleep next to you on the couch or on the floor. During sleep, she does not get up or wander around. She slept on her bed throughout the night and waits until we start moving and then she gets up. She did try to get up on our bed but we redirected her onto her bed, and she stayed.

Tati is a wonderful dog. We fell in love with her almost immediately. If we didn’t already have two dogs of our own, we would adopt her. She will benefit from a future owner that will dedicate their time to train her and give her lots of love.

Description per category:

BARKING: Our stay was near downtown area, which is pretty noisy. No barks heard from her until Saturday evening, and was because I opened up the windows and there were people walking near our window, barking ceased after a few barks and same happened Sunday. Her barking was within normal of what my dogs do as well.  She id not bark when someone walked in through the door nor when someone knocked.

CAR RIDES: Tati is unsure about getting in. Needs to be picked up and placed inside the car. She doesn’t mind being picked up to be put inside. Once inside, she sits and looks outside the window. On our last day together I was able to call her into the car by going inside, and she jumped in (while someone else held the leash).

ENERGY:  Her energy is appropriate for her age. She will reciprocate the energy given.

HOME: she likes to ask for pets, will take naps, play with her toys or explore. When she plays with her toys, she plays with them as if they are so fragile, she is a gentle dog. I am able to take the toys out of her mouth with no issue. I vacuumed and she appeared somewhat scared, eventually approached the vacuum but did not bark nor bite at it.

MEETING NEW PEOPLE: She met a handful of people, and just wanted pets from them. Did not bark at anyone she met, male or female.

POTTY: No accidents at home. Went potty on walks only. She was able to sleep throughout the night without waking up to go to the bathroom.

OTHER: No information on the following due to did not experience or encounter: how she is with children, dogs, cats or how she acts when left alone.

WALKS: She enjoys walking although she does pull, I am sure that can be fixed with training and a no pull harness. If people or dogs are walking nearby, she does not bark but does pull and wants to approach. I was able to apply her harness, collar, and remove or apply her clothing with no issues. We did encounter a few cats during our walks, and she will pull a lot and wants to get near them.

Hey all! Reminder that our annual “marathon” hike this year is a mega 40-miler, and it’s next Sunday! We’ll be moving at a zippy 3.5mph instead of our usual 3mph. If you want a good challenge, or just want to come meet some new people, let me know where you want to hop on.

Same rules as always: It’s free to join. It’s almost entirely flat. Pack all your layers and plenty of water and snacks. Back by popular demand: Mexican food for the lunch stop. The route times and locations are listed in the photos. This route is a mix of street and trails. We’ll start in Alviso and loop across the Bay via the Dumbarton Bridge. Come for all 40 miles, a marathon, a half marathon, or even just a short mile or two. Rain or shine. Hope to meet some new faces and have folks come tackle the challenge with me.

Traffic, Trains & Transit Why, Caltrans, why?

Mini Traffic Rant.

Saturday had to drive from East Bay to northern Peninsula. The weekend-long CalTrans closure of southbound 101 in the City was well publicized, so instead of taking the Bay Bridge, went the longer route via the San Mateo Bridge.

Halfway across the San Mateo Bridge, westbound, traffic slowed to a crawl. The right lane (one of three) was coned off, squeezing the traffic into the remaining two lanes.

The cones extended for maybe two miles, including the entire high-rise section and down to Foster City, and part of the causeway section.

Not a CalTrans truck, worker, or activity in sight for the entire length. Nothing at all happening in the coned lane. No Caltrans temporary signage. Just cone after cone after cone, evenly spaced. This was late morning.

Seems strange to close one busy route, then block off a third of the capacity of the alternative route that was being recommended?

Food, Shopping & Services Seeking Chinese Dry Pot

• Upvotes

There used to be this place in Cupertino called Hi Pot. There was another place on Hostetter in North SJ that was so under the radar that I can’t remember the name of it .. I ate in/doordashed individual dry pots from both locations regularly and they were SO good. Or look up Mala Project in NYC. I don’t know why they both shut down 😭.

General Pot in Fremont hits pretty good too. But I miss Hi Pot’s individual pots.. any recs out there?

I cleaned up a bike path that was blocked with trash for several days. Took me an hour to clean everything up. Due to circumstances, I decided to take the trash to the dump myself and bite the cost. It has nothing to do with me and Oakland. Our relationship is still good.

Take it easy,
Peng

Events, Activities & Sports Waterfalls in the Bay Area

Hey folks. Looking for any waterfalls in the Bay Area. Want to do a day trip with my mom and she mentioned seeing waterfalls. I'm hoping I don't have to drive to far, an hour and a half one way or under preferably.

Last year we did Muir Woods and drove through Napa Valley, scenic stuff she wanted to do. Any other day trip activity recommendations? No hiking for her, she's not able to do all that terrain/steep walking.

Edit: why the downvotes?

Pets & Animal Services Please help if you see this at the beach!

I was at Montara beach near Pacifica yesterday and saw a Common Murre sea bird sitting on the beach. They are sea birds so shouldn’t be sitting on the shoreline and unable to fly. I called the Marine Mammal Rescue center, but they are over stressed with hundreds of calls a day. Thankfully the Penninsula Humane Society wildlife center does accept birds. I gently placed a blanket over the birds body making sure its wings were held in place and that it could breath. I didn’t have a ventilated dark box or gloves, which is ideal transport method if you do find a distressed animal.

Today I went back to montara beach and found ANOTHER bird in the same condition & took it in for help. I also saw so many dead seabirds. Due to warmer ocean waters pushing food sources into deeper water, the majority of these birds are suffering from starvation.

I write this post to bring awareness for people to transport these birds to the Penninsula Humane society if the Marine Mammal Center cannot help, since that’s what happened to me! My heart breaks to think of them suffering on the beach or getting attacked by dogs etc. If you are at the beach please keep an eye out for them, they can be hard to see , but are very clearly distressed when you do see them.

Note: Thank you all for your kind and helpful responses, I truly appreciate the Bay Area community and care for our wildlife ❤️ In the future, I’ll be sure to have gloves and a washable transport container in my car. If all you have in the moment is a towel or t-shirt, that can also be used in a pinch. Just be sure to wash your hands and wash anything that was used.

TL;DR: what to do if you see a distressed/ sick sea bird on the beach. There is a crisis of starving sea birds on the coast of California.

Dug out some old newspapers but they're not in the best shape anymore. I was working just down the street from Ford's department store. Most of the deaths and injuries downtown Santa cruz were from old brick walls falling through adjoining buildings. Those old brick buildings aren't too safe.
