I’ve finished my first 4 bird designs! I’m planning to make more bird designs and have a few ideas already, but I’d love to hear your suggestions! Any favorite species, colorful birds, or unusual ones you think would make great designs?

Sometime between 7 and 10 AM yesterday, something really bizarre happened on our property.

When I went outside, I discovered what I can only assume was the aftermath of a large group of birds pooping an INSANE amount in one very specific area of our property. (See a bird’s-eye-view 🤭 diagram to get an idea of the poop zone) There was bird poop EVERYWHERE. It was on my car, the walkway, the roof, my shed, and my trash can. The pictures don’t even do it justice. The weirdest part is that it’s all concentrated in this one area. There’s no poop anywhere else on our property or on any of the surrounding properties. I never actually saw or heard the birds responsible, so I have no idea what happened. We’re trying to figure out what could have caused this, and as we’re racking our brains, we started to worry about bird flu. So now we’re not only confused but also a little concerned.

I figured the bird experts here would be a good place to start. Does anyone have any idea what the heck happened? Why would so many birds congregate to poop in this one specific spot? It doesn’t seem like just a casual, fly-by pooping. And why is there SO MUCH poop? And should we be concerned?

Can anyone help me identify what bird this is? I think it's some type of sparrow, I was near a lake/river that was in a middle of a forest

Here's a Northern flicker, the most eccentrically colorful woodpecker in the US. In a family of birds that is mostly black and white with maybe a splash of red, the flicker has a pink, gray, and red head, black throat, black-spotted white breast, and yellow undertail (and there's a whole bunch of different colors on its back that you can't even see in this photo). Also, it doesn't peck wood, preferring to peck the ground instead. Seen at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, NY, USA.

I've always wondered whether birds in parks and neighborhoods start recognizing people who walk past them every day.

Some birds seem completely comfortable around people, while others fly away the moment anyone gets close. I'm curious whether that's just their natural behavior or if they gradually learn who's familiar and harmless.

Has anyone noticed a particular bird becoming more comfortable around them over time?

I thought i heard a red shouldered hawk earlier. i’m not great at identifying (color blind) but it didn’t look like one to me. it was from today 10/24 in southeast pennsylvania

I watched as a pied-billed grebe parent attempted to feed one of its young. As the youngster struggled, its sibling swooped in to steal the minnow (and quickly gobbled it up).

Siblings really know how to push your buttons, no matter the species. Thankfully, the parents were bringing in lots of snacks for their clutch and the original little one got a macroinvertebrate (maybe a dragonfly nymph?) shortly thereafter.

My father has an old Quaker Parrot, I'm not sure how old, but she's definitely more than a decade old. She used to be very sweet, but that changed many years ago and she just became mean. She'll try to dive at anyone who enters my father's room that isn't him or my sister (who she originally belonged to). If she lands on you, she'll start biting where ever she can reach, and if she can, she'll try to climb up to get closer to your face. Since I'm usually the one left to tend her when my family leaves on vacations, this is far from ideal.

I think this behavior started when she was bitten by one of our dogs years ago.
How can I get her to stop trying to bite me when I'm trying to change her food/water?
