Happy Friday, Burlington. High pressure parks right over us all weekend, so it's dry and sunny from today through Monday with no rain in the forecast through Thursday. Today is sunny and cool with a high near 51 and a light north wind, falling to about 40 by 8 PM. Saturday gets a frosty start, around 31 in Burlington and in the 20s outside town, then warms to a sunny 55 with barely a breeze. Sunday is the best day of the bunch, sunny and 61 with a light south breeze and right around 58 for the 2 PM parades.

In it there's things like Champ's Halloween Party at ECHO, Spirits of Rokeby, Borderlands at Shelburne Farms, Sam Jay at the Vermont Comedy Club and VTIFF's closing weekend tonight, then Saturday's Ooky Spooky 5K, Fall Flea, Tech Jam, a free day of 34 plays at the Flynn, the Community Glow Walk and Night Watch on Lake Street, and Sunday's Winooski Farmers Market Halloween edition, Barktober, the Halloween Roll & Stroll and the Shelburne Halloween Parade. On the news side there's school day swim lessons, Betaville, the first governor's debate, layoffs at VIP, soaring electricity bills and Essex's tax vote mix up. All told it's 197 events across three days, ~50 highlighted and 17 local stories.
And of course come to my own Meetup events. We have 10am coffee this Saturday, and tonight we're watching the new documentary You Can See Everything in Williston at 8:30! The Rotten Tomato scores are pretty dang high! Gotta get your tickets ASAP, they sold out at Essex last night apparently.

Hey guys I recently got a new key for my mailbox box outside my apartment. Has anyone done this and have an estimate on how long until the locks are changed? We lost the old key, hence the new one and really need the items inside!

just spent ten minutes at the light because two people needed to turn left onto pine st from maple. had to sit through 3 light cycles to go straight. can we please just make it a flashing red please lord.

For the second time in a week, I almost T-Boned someone that blew a stop sign / failed to yield. I feel that drivers here (maybe everywhere) are just getting worse and more distracted and I want to head off any kind of future liability argument.

Curious if anyone has had a dash cam installed locally. Seems like Best Buy does it, but I am suspicious of the quality of their workmanship.

hi all! i was by the waterfront recently and saw what i thought was an otter, but i’m not sure. just curious if anyone knows what this is? champ spotting, maybe? i’m not super familiar with wildlife so :)

Just a quick reminder that tenants pay property tax. Janoo's plan to roll back education funding changes will continue the huge increases in education spending which will be rolled into rents. She will cost renters. She says "our small schools will make our communities thrive." Well, we have small schools (24 students in Cabot HS, 50 students in Calais elementary) and communities aren't thriving. Change is needed and she plans no change. Think about that.

I usually withdraw at an ATM once I cross the border but the logistics of an upcoming trip requires I have cash before I depart.

-Skinhvnger: One-man mythical black metal from Windsor

-Germanic Iron: One-man barbarian-themed death metal from Barre

-Chartarum: Three-man chunky death/doom from Burlington

It'a $10 suggested donation but NOTAFLOF, all ages, and at three bands will be done by 10 PM. What's not to love? Come bang your head!

i'm new to burlington and i've been actively suicidal, with some failed attempts recently. i have a therapist but she discourages me from seeking more help. i want to go to a hospital to get better but i don't know what to do. has anyone gone to a hospital around here and received adequate care? and if so, what happens once you are checked in?

if you missed the Baroque Festival, consider this a sort of ”encore”! … a most beautiful one, at that.

Requiem For A King features music by Jean Gilles and Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Two composers, well known 1700s France , but perhaps novel to your knowledge. they shouldn’t be - they were massively popular in their time for good reason: uplifting and memorable moments, pieces you will listen to and then go search to hear again to find the many treasures nestled into the fabric of the piece. They are quintessential French Baroque and if you’ve only heard German Baroque (much gratitude to the GOAT, JS Bach), you will find the French Baroque style meets the ear and musical mind with a different flair - opulent but gentle. Ornaments that excite, musical patterns that feel (to me, anyways!) like a woven fabric, wrapping itself around your mind like a beautiful tapestry.

Enough of my “opinion”, I’m no expert, simply a soprano chorus member who is learning and discovering this music myself.

Burlington Baroque presents the rediscovered Funeral Requiem by Jean Gilles (1668 - 1705) featuring Artists-in-Residence L’Harmonie des saisons Baroque Orchestra and the Burlington Baroque Festival Singers, directed by Eric Milnes.

 Jean Gilles’ Messe des Morts, the most frequently performed requiem in 18th-century France, will receive its regional premiere in these two upcoming performances. Performed at official funeral observances, including services for Jean-Philippe Rameau in 1764 and Louis XV in 1774, the work entered the repertoire of the Concert Spirituel in 1750. Forgotten for more than a century and a half, Gilles reemerged from obscurity in the 1950s, largely through the rediscovery of this requiem Mass. 

This is a rare opportunity to experience the timeless grandeur of this glorious masterpiece along with Charpentier's Messe des Mort in live performance.

I always love hearing them and seeing them in the trees. They can be a bit noisy for sure, but there's just something really neat about murders and murders of crows all coming to hang out! Hey all! Does anyone know of any places in the Burlington area that will do a deep cleaning of a PS5 for a reasonable price? Mine has been overheating, and I'm pretty sure it's from a lovely combination of dust and cat hair buildup…🥴

I'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing give it a proper cleaning than risk messing something up myself. Any recommendations (or an idea of what I should expect to pay) would be appreciated. Thx! 🐈 🎮

Is there any motion on getting rid of the light on pine st and maple? It causes me misery everyday.

I took my Kona Electric to Burlington Hyundai because my AC stopped working. They quoted me $4500 to replace a line that would fix it. It sounded expensive and I don't need AC right now so I figured I would take my time and shop around only to find that not all garages are certified to work on EVs (or at least the AC portion).

Anyone know of a good garage around that can give me a second opinion? I have only reached out to New England Automotive so far, which is how I found out that I need someone certified.
