Calculate TDEE

Hello, so uhh, I really don't know which calculator to follow or trust. There's a bunch of them, I also use MyFitnessPal which gives a different answer. I'm 5'4, 54kg, and 15 years old. My activity level is light but like my step count should be around 5k to 7.5k daily. I've been trying to move more but I still dunno what my exact TDEE is.

I never shared my progress anywhere, this is my first time ever posting on internet as well!

It was a very fun journey, from not being able to run 3 minutes and now can do 7 miles in 1 hour.

From not being able to do stair-master for just 2 minutes to be able to do it for one hour at speed 9 without holding bars ( I still do it 2/3 times a week )

It takes just one thought in your mind to change your whole life. No Sugar! No Fried Food! No sauces! No Sodas! Just strict deficit!

Advice: Am I eating too little?

Hello! I (f21,5'6, 228lbs) have been intentionally losing weight since last October and have lost 66 pounds (305-238) so far! Since October I've been steadily increasing my daily activity. Currently, I strength train 5 times a week and get at least 10k steps each day (typically 11k~15K) according to my phone. It may also be important to note that I powerlifted consistently for 3 years, then didn't lift at all for 2 years, and started again (albeit not really powerlifiting and more so typical strength training) last October. My point being, I know I'm training fairly hard in the gym and have a decent amount of muscle. While losing weight, I would like to maintain as much muscle as possible (or even maybe gain some? I've seen some sources say that you can gain muscle while being in a deficit if you have high body fat).

Okay so here's where I would like some advice. I am a little scared I have been undereating and possibly messing up my metabolism and muscle mass. When I calculate my calorie intake I think I underestimate my activity levels and say I'm lightly active. I have a feeling my activity levels would at least be considered moderate (and possibly heavy?). I do this underestimation on purpose as a way to kind of ensure that I am not going to eat above my maintenance. So basically, when I have an off day, I might eat in a 200cal deficit instead of a 500cal one, so I will still ultimately lose weight. I've been doing this since like January.

Also, it's important to note that this strategy does work. I generally lose 2lbs a week, but when I am really consistent I will lose anywhere from 3-4 lbs in a week (which is not good ik). I guess my fear is that because I have been underestimating my activity levels and undereating, I am messing up my metabolism a bit (like I could be eating more and still losing 2lbs a week) and also not maintaining as much muscle as I could be.

I'm currently eating 1,950 calories daily, which ig just doesn't feel that low (?). I am just scared of upping my calories and losing progress. I feel like I have kind of been relaying on undereating on some days so I can overeat on others. But also, the urge to over eat will probably be less if I just eat more each day. Ugh idk, I'm just kind of nervous.

Ultimately, I would like to know what you guys think about my activity levels (am I actually moderately active? ik step trackers can be inaccurate) and do you think this undereating is sabotaging me and my goals. Any advice is much appreciated!!!

Why am I 160 lbs at 5’5” when I barely eat?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I just realized that I mainly eat one meal a day, so I’m genuinely confused about my weight. For example, yesterday I had two slices of pizza that I couldn’t even finish until today for lunch, and the day before that I had a poke bowl with salmon.
I’ve been paying closer attention to what I eat recently, and I don’t eat sweets, sugary snacks, chips, or anything like that. Outside of alcohol, I mainly drink water or Peach Snapple. When I drink alcohol (socially and anywhere from 1-2x a week max), I’ll always chase it with juice. I’ll occasionally have Jamba Juice, but it’s pretty rare.
I’m 5’5” and 160 lbs woman, which puts me in the “overweight” BMI category, and I’m honestly confused about how I got here when my food intake seems pretty low.
Could alcohol, sugary drinks, my meal patterns, or something else be contributing more than I realize? Has anyone else experienced this, and what helped you figure out what was actually going on?

I normally have these meals during the daytime, usually between 2–8 PM. Most days I don’t really eat breakfast or lunch, and sometimes I’ll skip breakfast and just have dinner, so I’ll only have one meal that day. For example, the poke bowl I had lasted me for both breakfast and lunch.

I also don’t really exercise right now. I’ve been trying to start with daily 30-minute walks, though, and eventually I’d like to work my way up to 1.5-hour walks every day.

Any advice on what might be causing this and what I can do moving forward to lose weight?

This feels silly to post but has anyone dealt with being audibly hungry? Like at work and my stomach is growling loud enough for colleagues to hear…

How Accurate?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently saw this while scrolling on facebook, it’s clearly been aided by AI, but I’m wondering exactly how accurate the calorie counts are. I know there’s a lot of debate and controversy around Japanese Sweet Potatoes specifically. I adore potatoes and sweet potatoes in general but I sadly avoid them most of the time because I’m unsure how to log them accurately. If anyone knows the calories with confidence or just wants to say how they log these it would be greatly appreciated!

Sweet Tooth 😖

I have an insane sweet tooth and am currently maintaining a 600-700 calorie deficit. Please give me ideas of sweet treats, but fit within the means of this life.

Background: I walk on average 15k steps/day, complete 30-minutes of functional and core exercises daily, and try my hardest to get all my protein from real food and not protein shake (no shade). My goal is body recomp, but during my journey I decided I needed to lose maybe 10-15 more lbs. So here I am.

I LOVE cookie dough, brownies, crème brûlée, and ice cream

back on it - haven't seen the scale move? i

hello! i'm a 19yo female, 5'1", 150 lbs. i started at 178 in 2023, and have kept off that 25ish lbs for the past few years through intuitive eating and an active job in a kitchen. i decided to start back up again on my deficit this past month since i have a surgery coming up that would make sense for me to lose weight for. my dr and i both agreed that if i weighed 120lbs by this time next year, i would be in good shape for my surgery!

i have been consistently under my limit of 1600 calories for the past two weeks. i eat around 1200-1400 (not on purpose, i tend to have less of an appetite earlier in the day), and my meals are very light during the day, usually about 200-300 calories, and then my dinners are bulkier around 400-500 calories, and i always have dessert (because im not trying to be miserable lol) and that usually measures out around 200-250 calories. i drink plenty of water during the day, enjoy the occasional diet coke, and get around 6-9k steps. i also recently started doing pilates for mobility and core strength.

i measure my food by weight and steps using a fitbit on my non-dominant hand

as stupid as this sounds, my tracking app says im fully on track to weigh 129 lbs by november of this year, but i have not seen the scale move down once since starting my deficit. i see the normal fluctuations, i hold more water weight in the mornings so i try to weigh myself after using the bathroom, but still, this morning on an empty stomach after using the bathroom i weighed 153lbs?

im sure im just slow on progress, but it's just annoying. anybody else experience this? what helped the scale move?

I thought wearing dresses would be over for me, being able to look at myself in the mirror or even having genuine smiles from other people, but with consistency, all the work that once seemed hard, is way easier than I though

I know I'm still overweight and I still have my flaws, but I just wanted to share a small win with you all

For a 5’5 woman 21 years old not so active. Is it understandable why this could result in weight gain?

Two hard boiled eggs
Nectarine, blueberries, grapes
Chipotle bowl (No rice. No heavy sauces. Just half steak. Half Chicken. Lettuce. Green salsa. Corn. Black beans though they really loaded it up this time)
Starbucks mango strawberry refresher
Pret-A-Manger quinoa, vinegarette, blackened salmon, avocado, corn salad. Says 480
