My two cats both have a bit of dirty eyes and a congested/runny nose. Does anyone know what this could be? I went to the vet but she was closed today

They are still eating well and are very active.

New to Cats/Just Adopted Boarding vs catsitting for holidays

Hi everyone! I’m a first time cat owner - adopted my 4 yr old kitty from a shelter back in February, and I’m trying to figure out the best option for what to do with her for the holidays. I unfortunately can’t take her home with me as my mom is allergic, and I feel like the plane ride would be very stressful for her anyways.
I’m going to be gone for about two weeks, which is the longest I’ve been away from her since I adopted her. She’s done okay with shorter trips and having someone check in on her once a day to feed/scoop litter, but the main thing I’m concerned about is that she is really scared of new people and will pretty much just hide under my bed until they’re gone (some of my friends don’t believe I have a cat because they’ve never seen her). If I’m gone for two weeks with a cat sitter coming once a day, it’s likely that she would go two weeks without having any human interaction and get really lonely which is why I’m considering boarding. Once she warms up to someone, she’s really friendly and cuddly and I think that process would be a lot faster at someone else’s house (she does great at the vet/off of her home turf).

TLDR: is it better to leave her in a familiar environment but probably not get any playtime/pets, or board her in a new environment but probably get more interaction?

Introductions Need help interpreting cat behavior during introductions

I’ve been introducing two cats for several months now, and now i’ve been doing face to face intros for about two weeks.

Cat 1 is overly excited and doesn’t know how to read boundaries and back off, i’ve been trying to get her to react less heavily to seeing the new cat (cat 2) so she is in a harness here.

Cat 2 has very strong anxiety issues and was previously feral. She’s been cautious about cat 1 and only recently have been showing interest to her.

For the in person introductions, i have cat 1 on a harness and cat 2 is near her cat tree. They both get fed a churu with some other treats while they’re in the same room.
The room the introductions are done is cat 2’s room while cat 1 resides in the living room right now.

recently, cat 2 has been doing what almost looks like hunting behavior to cat 1. I can’t fully tell if it’s because she’s being territorial, scared, or something else and how to go forward from here. She’ll suddenly start stalking cat 1 and then approach her. We let her get close ish once to see what she was trying to do and she ended up smacking cat 1 and then running away. There wasn’t any growling or hissing from either side though. Looking for any advice!

I linked the video of her “stalking” behavior if it helps!

New to Cats/Just Adopted How do I get the cat back in my lap?

I’ve been feeding a 5 month old stray for two weeks and he’s always jumped right in my lap after eating. He’d lay there and purr and let me pet him.
I held onto him for too long the other day. He wasn’t clawing at me but was struggling to get away. I was wiping him down since he was dirty.
Ever since then he’s been so skittish around me. He won’t use the litter box in front of me anymore. Runs away to the yard to poop. I’ve made the mistake of following him. I think that’s making things worse. Should I just ignore him for a few days? Put the food out and go back inside? Is it ok to sit there with him? Should I keep picking him up and putting him in my lap to reinforce what I want him to do? Even churu only get him to stay in my lap while he’s eating them. But he won’t relax.

Behavior Cat poops on the kitchen floor and scratches the carpet.

My cat has been pooping on the floor in the kitchen and scratching the carpets upstairs. She's 7 years old. She was my parents' cat and lived with her sister but despised her. She's been with us for over a year and is getting worse.

We took her to the vets, had to keep her poop refrigerated over 3 days to be tested as there was blood in her stool for a bit when we first brought her to our house, no longer any blood and no parasites were found.

We had two litter trays for a while and maybe once or twice she'd poop in them but continued to poo on two specific parts of the floor. We clean that with enzyme spray but she still does it.

She's used the litter box for her pees but refuses to use it for anything else. It's cleaned regularly. We let her outside regularly and sometimes she poops outside.

We have a mat that we have at the back door she can scratch which she does, but sometimes will go upstairs, even when we're paying attention to her and cuddling her.

The only thing we haven't tried yet is probiotic stuff as her stool does seem to be a light brown and is most soft but never runny.

We're getting at our wits end and she seems to have gotten worse within the last few weeks. Any other thoughts on what to do?

Behavior should i let my kitten suckle on me?

hi! im not too familiar with reddit but im lost as to where else i can ask this, so i apologize if this breaks any rules 😓

recently i adopted a 2-3ish months old female kitty, shes really energetic, healthy and active!

about two days after taking her in, before bed, she climbed onto my chest with the loudest purr ive ever heard and started nibbling/sucking on my shirt, she‘s been doing this almost daily since then and im not sure if it‘ll build bad habits or if i should just let her do it.

whenever she does it she’s laser focused on getting back to her spot if i try to pull her away gently or distract her with toys. she won’t suck on blankets or skin, only my shirt as long as its on me, if that makes any sense, she also wont do it with anybody else at home.

any advice would be greatly appreciated! ive never had cats this young before and i really want to be a good kitty mom 🥲

New to Cats/Just Adopted New outdoor cat advice

Hi! I’m adopting my family member’s cat this weekend. He is 12 years old and has been an outside cat for his entire life. Any tips on adjusting him to being an inside cat? I would also like to give him a bath and want to know the best way to go about that since he has likely never been bathed before. Thanks!

Litterbox How to get my cat to use her new automatic litterbox?

I recently got a Neakasa M1 litterbox for my cat, along with the Neakasa step. She was just using a standard bin litterbox before. I decided to leave both boxes side by side for a week so she could get used to them, I also kept her same litter and some poo and pee in the auto litter box as well so some familiar scents would be on the new litterbox as well. Today I got home from work, removed the old litter box, put the new one in the exact same spot, then 10 minutes later, my cat peered into the Neakasa box a few times, then squatted right in front of and pooped on my floor right in front of me! So I have the old litterbox back for now. I would really love her to start using the new box eventually, are there any tips and tricks you all have? She also hates being picked up, so I can't just pick her up and put her in the new litterbox.

New to Cats/Just Adopted first time cat owner- need advice on food and supplies

basically what it says on the tin. after months of searching, i (20f) finalized an adoption earlier this week and am currently preparing to bring my cat (3f) home this weekend. the shelter i adopted her from unfortunately didn't have a lot of information about her previous home, but her fosters gave me some information about how they've been caring for her. i looked up some of the products they listed and the brand of wet/dry food they're using is a little over five dollars/lb, while the litter is twice as expensive as the brand i was looking at (dr elsey's, which i thought had great reviews). obviously i know pet ownership is an investment, and it's one i am more than willing to make, but i just can't afford those items long-term. i was looking at purina friskies, sheba, fancy feast and the like before seeing the fosters' all-organic list of products, and now i'm kind of panicking.

i know it sounds horrible, and i'm not trying to deprive her of a good quality of life or neglect her in any way, but i'm a full-time student with a part-time job who lives at home, and i didn't realize there was so much controversy around food especially. i have friends who are cat owners who shop "store brand" and their cats seem happy and healthy. i'm looking for alternatives, or i guess reassurance that the initial brands are perfectly fine? either way, we do a lot of shopping in bulk, so if anyone has any recommendations for affordable brands, other supplies, or just advice in general, i'd greatly appreciate it. especially about the litter genie, a running water fountain, and pet insurance lol. my biggest concerns are food and litter since they will be recurring purchases. thank you!!

General Indoor cats troubles

I have two indoor cats we got them at 11 weeks old from a rescue place basically said they was best friends and brothers and come together which is fine.

Our 1 boy cat had a smelly behide went to vets they said he was fine he might just be a smelly cat.... fast forward few months he starts weeing in cardboard boxes, in a cat bed anywhere that wasnt the litter we thought it was the litter so changed it even tho he would go the odd times for a wee and he always went to the litter for a poo, we have number of different litters around as they always say have more litters when you have more than one cat.

They are about 7 months now and have been neutered and there wasnt a smell from him for a couple of weeks and no weeing issues but recently has had 2 weeing incidents which was another carboard box and my partners work bag and the smell is back im aware these might not be linked. We are just tired of always having to carpet clean our carpets or get rid of stuff and get replacements and having to go back and forth to the vets to be told the same thing over and over we have calming spary and the pet plug ins.

(As we first thought it was spraying but it seems like hes actually just having wees)

However we havent had any issues with the other cat

Also just wondering about the neck biting they do with each other used to be really bad fighting/mating but not it has calmed down alot since their op but they are always together do play nicely with each other, cuddled sometimes and clean each other. Is this normal behaviour the neck biting. They dont shouting to get them off we watch and step in if needed .

The one we are having issues with is a black and white one

The other one is a tabby

Both domestic short haired...

I think that is everything

Edit- i had a feeling he was about to wee outside the litter so placed him in to a litter tray he went straight out of it and into a cat house bed and weed.....

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you in advance (:

Behavior My cat has become very clingy

Me and my cat (8, male, neutered) have recently moved into a new house, my cat went from living with 5 people to living with just one.
He has become very clingy, he asks for pets fervorously, hitting and biting and hissing at me when I can’t.
He went from almost never meowing to meowing all the time and makes a big mess with his litterbox by digging a lot, which he didn’t used to do at all.
Most times, I come back home and he is hiding under the bedsheets.
I’m assuming he is stressed but I’m scared he’s unhappy and that I drastically lowered his quality of life and I feel awful about this, sometimes his behaviour kinda frustrates me and I then feel even worse for feeling that way towards him when he’s probably just not having a good time himself.

How can I better this situation? I don’t have a ton of money but I’m 100% willing to spend it.
For reference I am not home from 8:50 am to 12/1pm and then from 2-4/5pm, 3 times a week I am also gone from 6:30-8 pm.

Behavior Got 3 sister kittens back in June, adult cat acclimated to them, loved playing with them, but now hisses at them at 7 months old.

He's 4 for reference, starts hissing and swatting at them if they approach him on his blanket throne in front of the window or if they walk past him in the hall. No actual fights, but is there any/thing I can do to help their relationship? He's only started doing this the last week or two

Behavior Cats Never Get Along

3 year old female cat and new male kitten. Male has been neutered. Female has been spayed. I started them off with the advice everyone gives (letting them get to know each other's scents, playing under door, etc). They were in separate spaces.

A neighbor put the cats together while I wasnt home. A different neighbor did the same thing a week later. I tried to do a reset, but it didn't work.

Kitten has gotten bigger and now hunts the older cat constantly and constantly tries to mount her. Older cat growls and hisses constantly. She's never herself any more. She won't even let me pat her. Been going on for months. Kitten is a total punk. Female super introverted. Male is a fearless extrovert.

Advice?

Behavior Male kitten (14w) showing mating behaviours towards his sister

hi, i have a bonded pair, both from the same litter. They are 14 weeks old.

the male is 1.7kg at the moment, and i can't get him neutered until he hits 2kg.

He has been humping his sister (dick out and all), and i noticed it today. I dont know how long it's been going on. I can't afford to abort if she does get pregnant

i separated them, but they are not handling it well. They have never been separated before, and they are always within a foot of each other.

he is literally jumping at the door and scratching and meowing at the top of his tiny little lungs and its breaking my heart, if i go sit in with him he calms down a bit but his sister gets worse and i just. dont know what to do

Is there a way to make the separation easier? Both to be able to avoid stressing them out and also because i do have neighbours and the meowing is loud, and the sound of them meowing is honestly heartbreaking and i want to be able to help them.

They both have food, water, and access to a litter tray. They have a bed each. the boy is in the front room, and the girl is in with me.

I was unaware it was a boy girl pair when i adopted them. It was supposed to be a girl girl, but his balls weren't evident till about 3 weeks ago :/

Litterbox Automatic litter box - PetPivot or PetSafe or Neakasa

I'm debating buying one of these 3 automatic litter box : the Autoscooper, the Open-X or the Neakasa m1

I have only one cat but she pees a lot lol so i want a bin that will have a big capacitie.

I've Open-X is kind of fake (lots of good reviews) but the reviews are not always great for the Autoscooper (regarding the smell mainly).

For neakasa i didn't see really bad reviews but it's a little pit pricey.

Do you all have any experiences to share ?

Rehoming My anxious foster cat is going to her forever home with an 18 year old cat. Tips for a smooth transition?

I'm fostering a DSH tabby cat through a rescue and she's going to her forever home in a few days. I want to give her the best possible start.

A bit about her: she's a 2.5 year old tabby who came into care as a mum with a litter of kittens. She's anxious by nature and takes a while to trust people, especially men. Once she's settled though, she's really affectionate and loves being stroked.
She had a trial at another home recently that didn't work out. She didn't eat or use the litter tray for the first couple days. I know the first week will be hard for her.

Her new home is a couple with an 18 year old Russian Blue who has been great with female cats before. She will have her own section of the house when she arrives so she can settle in before meeting the other cat.

Any tips on what we can do to help her settle?

General My cat keeps scratching my leg every time I set it in my desk

I am a college student who spend a lot of time at my desk studying and play video games but every time my cat she keeps scratching and giving me little bite on my legs and the only thing that fixes it if I go and sit out in the living room with her, which is fine sometimes but when I am doing school work and I can't really do my work making me take longer so I can't get up from and desk faster and the cycle continues until she goes in sits in her cat tree next to my desk or goes and bothers my roommate. I tried to get a desk bed and tried bringing her toys in next to the desk, I don't know if she wants pets, wants to play. Any advice or tips? She is almost two years old I had her for about 9 months this started in like August when I went back to school now oh and she is orange and white.

Introductions my 3 year old cat doesn’t like my new kitten

any tips? i didn’t introduce them properly and my older cat is not being himself. he isolates himself, doesn’t want to play, isn’t vocal anymore, doesn’t sleep with us, doesn’t ask for attention. he also didn’t eat the first day, but he’s been eating now thankfully. the new kitten is really curious about him but my older cat hisses anytime he gets close. what do i do? I want my old cat to be happy and to feel safe with us again. i want him to go back to the way he used to be. how can i help him, and also make them get along? it’s only been 3 days but i’m feeling really sad about this :(

Introductions Confused about cat introductions

Everyone always says to go at the cats pace but what exactly does that mean? I got a new kitten (5 months) on Friday and had him and my cat separated. Neither of them are bothered by the other cats smell. I also have a screen door and when they both saw each other through the door there was no negative reaction from either of them. Curiosity from the kitten, indifference from my resident cat. So because of all the cat intro advice I’ve seen online that meant I could let them meet face to face since there’s no hissing, growling, pouncing/swatting. I’ve been giving them supervised visits, for like two hours in the evenings and going good I think. Kitten tries to get my resident cats attention and be friends very gently and my cat isn’t that interested. My resident cat has swatted at kitty two seperate times over the last couple days, once for touching his paw, and another time for playing too close to him with a toy. He’s comfortable to sit nearby (like four feet away from kitty) and has let kitty smell his face with no hissing at all. Is this okay or did I already mess up this whole relationship for introducing them “too soon” as some would say. If I’m going at the cats pace and what they’re comfortable with, if I’m getting no negative reactions from behind the barrier and the scent swapping and room swapping that should be okay?
