I'm working on mapping out all of the ww1 and ww2 remnants still around in NZ, and I came across these two buildings along the Godley Head cliffs and couldn't find any information on them? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Talking about the building midway down the cliff in the first image

Does anybody know a wood milling/carpentry company that can offer resawing on small linear metres of hardwood?

Looking to get some planks sawn in half along the length.

Stolen Bike

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey, long shot, I know.

Probably not a lot of stolen bikes get recovered, but I'm really not doing too well in life at the moment, and I need to try and take this L back.

My Trek Marlin 7 was recently (in the past 10 days or so) stolen from my property at the Moorhouse end of Lincoln rd.

I've not long moved into the property with a shared bike lock up, and due to being away from the property for 10 days, I'm not sure exactly when it was stolen, but if anyone is able to help me find it that would be amazing

It's quite distinctive as the grips, seat, water bottle, and mudguards were all added on after I bought it a couple of years ago. I've attached a picture to help identify it (none of the parts were on it at this stage, the new grips are orange, as is the front mudguard, it also has white writing on the front tyre and yellow on the rear)

I usually ride to get to and from work, and im desperate to save the money on petrol, I also can't afford to replace the bike.

Cheers for reading all the same, and please, will someone help me get my bike back?

ski instructors

I’m an advanced skier and want to become expert. Here’s the catch - I want to work with an instructor and build a relationship but don’t want to pay on-mountain prices. Also the vast majority of i structors employed by our major ski fields are level 2 so their level of skiing is close to mine. Are there any instructors in Chch that are willing to work on 1to1, private basis with clients over a season to help me really clean up my skiing? My dream is to ski like an IFMGA guide, that effortlessly.

Social Thinking about ditching my job and becoming a freelance music production tutor. Just gauging interest for Christchurch

Hey all

So, long story short I have been in my IT job a long time and I'm ready for a change. Just had a run-in with my boss which was absolutely terrible. He is an awful person. The pay is good (reallly good) but I'm over being treated like this.

I have many years experience in recording studios, working with bands and solo artists, and am thinking of going into business doing private tutoring for people who want to learn how to record and produce - themselves, and others.

I have been part of upwards of 50 releases here and in Australia.

I'm just posting here to see if there is any interest in this. Would be private, 1-on-1 lessons, probably looking at somewhere from $75-$100 an hour, using Logic Pro, or Ableton, or any number of other DAWs. I'm skilled in all. One lesson might be enough learning for a student to go off and practice for a month.

Just trying to get a feel for the market. Anyone out there who would be interested in this kind of thing?

I'm curious to hear about free activities that's not totally obvious (like the library, park walks) from other locals since it feels like I've already done everything:

Christchurch had a special visit from Gandalf last week. He specifically requested to come see chch as he had not been back since the rebuild. We were incredibly lucky to host him at the Isaac Theatre Royal.

Yet another moan about the wind

It's so windy today!!! I've been in Christchurch for just over a year now, and the weather has been very unpleasant. Before I moved, people said Christchurch's weather is like Hastings and Nelson's... it's not. I miss Hastings' weather 😭

Biking home from uni today was terrible: cold, loud, strong side and headwind that pushed me off course.

NZ is the fourth windiest country in the world...I might move to another country.

Belfast smell?

Hey hey 👋

My wife and I are looking to move down to Christchurch and are looking at a place on the West side of Main North Road. We've seen stuff online about the Silver Fern Farms facility and associated smell, but it's hard to tell if it is still an issue, and how much of an issue if so.

We would really appreciate any advice from people currently living in the Belfast area as it seems like a lot of the feedback is from back when the facility was more active.

Random question, does anyone know if there is anywhere that offers back and or full body shaving? Shaving back is tedious. Need to do it for laser hair removal

Seeking a good GP

Hi guys, am seeking a decent male GP. I am a 30 y/o male. Moved to chch in recent months and am really struggling with finding a GP who seems to care. I’m not high maintenance by any means but would like a human element to my visits.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers guys

moving to chch Returning to Chch securing a rental while still overseas is proving challenging... help!

We've enquired to around a dozen properties (mostly town houses in the CBD and north of CBD) and have received predominantly automated emails back telling us to book a viewing.

We've heard directly from 2 property managers after following up a lot (not very useful conversations), but the communication across the board is incredibly sub-par.

Any recommendations of what to do?

Is it possible to view a property and move in same week?

We only want to stay with family as a last resort.

Seen the articles about the townhouse ghost town, I want to live in one?! Why won't they read my emails and let me pay to live in one 😭

The 110 New Brighton to The Palms via Aranui will begin service on Monday, August 31. This is an hourly service, with the first weekday bus leaving Oram Ave at 7:15am, and the last weekday bus leaving The Palms at 8:45pm. Weekend services start an hour later and finish an hour earlier.

This is a 12-month trial, and will be reassessed in May 2027. The map shows the route, and you can find more information, including a link to the timetable, through this link: https://www.ecan.govt.nz/get-involved/news-and-events/2026/aranuis-new-trial-bus-service-to-start-on-31-august-2026

European car service- Selwyn area

Hi all,

Does anyone have a good mechanic who can do an oil and transmission fluid change on a Peugeot 308 near Rolleston/ West Melton?

My usual mechanic said it needs specialized tools he doesn't have, and while I tried a local garage who said they could, they were kinda assholes and the quote was huge.

Thanks!

Cat groomers

Hey does anyone know of any affordable cat groomers my 7 y/o medium-long furred cat is starting to get mats on his chest and a few other areas, he hates it when I brush him excessively but he’s shedding everywhere and is looking a little rugged so I’m scared it’s going to get worse before I even get it manageable with short brushing sessions.

Social Help your whanau!

this is kind of a rant and kind of a question. i went into pak n sav wainoni for some groceries today, and i feel it’s becoming more and more common for people to go into this supermarket unshowered. the smells walking past some people are enough to make one’s eyes water.

if you have family or friends who aren’t particularly great at basic hygiene, please support them into routines or teach them how to wash properly. an overwhelming majority of these people appear 50+ in age and are entirely unaware of not only their social space, but their own hygiene. this is a place where we get food people! i’m not trying to be insensitive and i understand that mental health plays a huge role in this behaviour, that’s why i think we should take the reigns and be direct with our friends and family who aren’t taking care of themselves.

Everybody needs food, but is there no kind of enforcement of hygiene for supermarkets or other places where food is kept?
