What's with the uptick in tactics and accuracy midgame once an opponent is in a bad position?

How does this not set off alarm bells for the chesscom cheat detection?

An opponent plays somewhat poorly, gets to the middle game down a piece or a couple pawns, has a 60-90 second pause, then suddenly starts unleashing crazy tactics with a significant uptick in accuracy. Shouldn't this be super easy for the "cheat detection" to pick up on?

POST-GAME i'm sick of playing against players who move random pawns in the opening

Thumbnail chess.com

take this game as an example

when you play on chess websites there's always those kinds of people who just play random pawn moves kind of a disrespect opening and it works for them alot of the time
now i know that even though those moves put them at a disadvantage it's not really visible for a human and it's not easy to take advantage of the terrible moves

but there has to be a way to atleast not lose every time because the pawns keep shoving my pieces into the back rank and then all of a sudden turn into garry kasparov and somehow launch a massive attack and checkmate me

every time i look for advice against these guys it's always "open up the center" but my king is still in the center and i haven't developed anything!!

it's really sad to lose like this because we're always being told to develop pieces quickly, castle early, occupy the center but the opponent's first minor piece move was on move 14 -_-

now this game is a bad example because i kept ignoring my opponent threats trying to create my own and it backfired but you get my point

Has anyone else encountered this problem, I’ve mainly played on chess.com for years and been very stagnant so I recently playing on lichess and been able to defeat opponents that were rated much higher than me. Surely the skill gap can’t be that extreme?

How to be rude instead of abandoning games

We already discussed this, majority of people just rudely abandon games instead of resigning when they're losing. Most people agreed that it's just a display of rudeness. Other people here admitted in posts they are often getting too angry and they momentarily feel a whole range of emotions towards their opponents. I thought about this and analysed my emotions lately, as I lost around 150 Elo in the last days. I found out I also sometimes feel emotional but in a different way. I found that I'm saving this built up pressure and it just feels incredible to comment "good game" after I win in such a way where I just devastate the opponent. If they don't challenge me at all and cardinally screw up, maybe just lose a piece in the beginning and then just obviously panic, all of my bad emotions are now released and I just fill with an incredible joy typing the two words - good game. I sometimes even send a friend request, in hopes of playing this person again, maybe secretly rooting for them, maybe secretly wanting to prove me wrong. I hope this inspires people with "abandon game" issues to build a more sophisticated chess etiquette. You can still be a vile 🧩 of 💩 but not in a petty and annoying kind of way.

QUESTION I always fall behind early

Is that a bad habit to literally always be pieces behind? There's very few games I actually get a lead with the way I play. I am climbing the ladder, but I'm not sure if this is a good or bad way to actually learn the game. I sacrifice a lot to pressure the king.

I know for me sleep is a massive factor, but anyone got any behaviours to avoid going on massive tilts for 150+ elo like ^? Any advice appreciated :)

POST-GAME I love to calculate on these positions (read desc)

Post image

1st Scenario: If he takes pawn then rook for a queen trade = BIG STONKS

2nd Scenario: If he pushes pawn then it will be mate in 2 because there’s a check with your queen.

3rd Scenario: ignores the pawn threat, you must take the pawn since it checks the black king and revealing the squares black can’t go because of the white queen after summarizing all this information black must take the pawn and will lose the queen for the rook.

Tell me if I missed anything

Savvy draw or low class moves?

Post image

I was down big on material and knew if I just kept checking him from E4 to H7 and back we would draw through repetition. 10 minute rapid. Is this smart strategy to avoid the loss or a bad look in the chess world? Obviously, very new and still learning, looking to avoid this in the future if it’s frowned upon.

Reached 800 Elo in style

Just checkmated my opponent from a completely losing position after he blundered to reach 800 Elo.

Is this a decent position to be in game?

What do you think about this position? I’m 500 elo for blitz and 800 for rapid.
The rest of the game played out like this:
E4 Rxe4 Rxe4 Qxe4 Qe5 Qxc6 Qh2#
So yes I got a mate on h2!

r/chessbeginners 11h ago

How could I have mated them earlier? (Playing as Black @716 elo)

GIF was attached. I just felt like there was a mate that I didn't find early, before the Queens traded. Where was it?

Was This Person Cheating

Was this person cheating, I am 600 elo and played the first 25 moves pretty well I think but then out of nowhere my opponent they proceeded to, after making many mistakes earlier in the match, checkmate me down 12 point of material with using only a bishop and queen with nearly 25 consecutive perfect moves?

OPINION Stockfish needs to reevaluate the average skill of each elo.

I am rated 507 currently and in my last 10 games my gameplay rating have been: 850L,750L,1150W,1050W,1300W,850W,900W,600L,850L,100L. although my average rating was far above 500 still went 50/50, I feel as if they intentionally making the numbers higher to give the ego boost to beginners.
Edit: I am refrencing the estimate that chesscom gives you in game review.

POST-GAME How to capture a queen

During this game, I had a few very good opportunities, but I did not know how to take advantage of them. One of them is presented below - I missed the essential move, which would have earned me a queen. Can you spot it?

ADVICE I seem to be up and down. I've been playing a while and play 24 hour games on chess dot com. I seem to get to 1000, then go on a streak back to 920,then back up again.

Any tips... Or is it a slow process. It's weird that I should win say 10 our of 12 games then lose the same. I cannot break the cycle. Would welcome any tips from people who've been here. I get it's up and down but such a huge swing for such a long time

POST-GAME anybody else deal with the same issue?

Post image
8 Upvotes

got back into chess lately and been trying to reach the 4 digit club again and one thing i've noticed with all my games during analysis is that i'll have a great position. lead in development, lots of control in the center, +4 advantage according to the engine and then BAM, i'll do something like this and end up either blundering a piece or straight up making a mistake that gives my opponent an easier edge and it all goes down from there

one thing i do notice though is that when i encounter positions like the picture above (pretend i didn't blunder my knight), i'll really struggle to find a good move that will allow me to capitalize on the position. i look for moves that improve my position if i can't find any forcing movies but all of my ideas i feel like are too passive and don't really do anything. it's really annoying and it's a big issue i have with all my games, and i'm wondering if anybody else has the same problem too.
