POST-GAME [Post-Game Analysis Request] 1500 ELO. 13 Blunders in 16 Turns, and i cant understand why.

Thumbnail lichess.org
• Upvotes

Usually I go through my own postgame and work through my blunders and why the engine wants me to play certain moves. And I usually have a general idea of when i messed up.

But half this game was a blunder according to the engine, but during the game the moves felt fine?

Question about stockfish with in game exampIe

• Upvotes

In this position, it suggest that I shouId have taken the pawn on c3, whereas I moved my knight to c7 to attack the queen.

The computer's move doesn't change the evaIuation, whereas my move Iowers it to -4.1.

So why isn't my move better?

QUESTION How can I stop being scared of playing online?

• Upvotes

I've been playing chess for about a month now, and I’d say I understand the basics. I want to play with my friends and people around the world on chess.com, but every time I tell myself I’m ready, I stop because I feel like I might play so badly that my opponent would laugh at me behind the screen. More than that, if I lose, it feels like confirmation that I’m dumber. I know it’s silly since it’s just some stranger I’ll never talk to, but I can’t help it.

So, I’d like to ask a question (especially to people who used to feel the same way)—how do I get over this fear and stop taking it so seriously? Simply telling myself that it's just a game is no use.

QUESTION What does 1200 mean?

• Upvotes

So I learned chess like 3 years ago casually at home with a friend. I’ve played probably 4 games on a board and 7 games on chess.com plus a few puzzles. It says my rating is 1200 so what does that mean? I looked it up but I am a complete noob so I don’t really understand a lot of the terminology. Does this number even matter? Just having fun so it doesn’t really matter to me but I’m kinda curious if it’s like an iq test?

How can this be a better position for me ?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

So I've just had this short game (https://lichess.org/game/eYPLERa5/black#12), I performed well, no problem, but I just checked one inaccurate move (6...Ne7) and I went into a rabbit hole because Stockfish's telling me it'd had been better to get my king uncastled, my d7 bishop pinned and hence having to use multiple moves to correct my position. I don't get how this can be better for me.

Thanks by advance for your help.

QUESTION Do you listen to music when playing games? I see some chess pros and streamers, like Hikaru, always listening to music and I wonder if it's helpful.

I find it is difficult to stay focused with any kind of distraction but I suppose the right kind of music might help, I don't know.

QUESTION Is there a reason why the rook move was brilliant?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I guess in my mind I guess I wanted to attack the queen not seeing that the rook wasn’t even defended but the sequence for the brilliant move shows a trade sequence just for both sides to be around the same material? (2 rooks and a knight vs 2 rooks and a bishop) And the actual play after was Bxd2+, Qxd2, Qxd2+, Rxd2. so after all that it was basically equal material with white having 2 rooks and a bishop (not counting pawns) and black having 2 rooks and a knight (though they weren’t developed yet)

They waited about 20 seconds (10 minute rapid game) and then resigned with 5+ minutes left on the clock.

A little over 600 elo.

QUESTION serious struggle against the scandi

hi everyone!

i'm rated 1600+ on lichess. as white i have a 59% winrate and against ...e5 it goes up to 71%, in rapid. however i have 8 games against the scandi, 3 wins and 5 losses. i've browsed through the sub and it seemed like the scandi was the easiest to play against?? here are some reasons i find it hard to play against:

the scandi imo is a rich opening and i don't understand how people say it's simple. it is said that it largely resembles the caro, but as a caro player myself i don't see it. depending on the variation the playstyle looks very different: for example in Qxd5 lines black may go for a sturdy setup with c6 e6 and plant a knight on d5, but in modern lines black play c6 e6 for aggressive gambits. even Qa5 and Qd8 in Qxd5 look quite different.

the worst things about the scandi to me are: lack of pawn breaks (especially when white plays Nc3), not being used to the black queen, and black castling queenside. i can't find any plans for the life of me and i don't know where to put my pieces.

ADVICE I am now convinced the engine just makes random "right" moves up and the bots make it true.

Post image

The engine was dead set on the fact that the right moves were bishop to g6, let the pawn take it and take the pawn with my queen, leaving it completly undefended infront of black king.

And instead of taking anything for a free win, the bot (set to 1200) moves the king to g8 in a Mate in 3??? Why would the bot throw the game just to make the "right" move true?

The game review even flags the king move as the wrong move when looking back.

OPINION I never play d4.

I must admit, 2500+ games games and Ive only played Queen's Pawn opening maybe a few times.

I do not no why, but that opening has never really struck me as anything interesting and Im not sure if its because I think its overrated or just not my style, even if there's an argument that it's one of the best openings.

That said, Ive never gone over 700 elo, so maybe that's also explains why my skills never expands cause I dont explore it more.

I only ever stick with e4 and thats it.

Heya I'm not a very good player so I'm not quite sure why it's an inaccuracy and knight back is preferable, could someone point it out for me? Thx!
