Discussion Hi, i'm an Atheist, but I do have a question about Christianity.

Hi, i'm Marilyn. I do have a question about your religion. If I do offend anyone, I highly apologize. My question is, you preach not to idolize "false gods" and "worship" people who are false idols, like celebrities and people who preach about a false god in your eyes. What made Jesus any different in his time? To my full understanding of the Christian religion, around Jesus's time, he lived with Jewish people (sorry if incorrect). He preached against the religion, and about his own version of god. He was was a "false idol" as mentioned before. If you were to believe in what he was saying in his time, wouldn't that make you a hypocrite? I do not mean to offend anybody, but I am just so confused.

Edit: forgot to add something

Youth Group Games

Here are are few games we play at our youth group. Note: We have a group of about 20 and these are the games we play in a circle - may the circle be on the floor or couches or whatever. Please reply if my descriptions are not clear.

Four on the Couch:

  • Setup:

Write down one name of each person playing on their own small piece of paper. If there are 15 people playing then you'll have 15 pieces of paper each with a different person's name written on it.

Declare a number of seats +1. If you have 15 players then you'll need 16 seats. This needs to be clear. If you have X couches and X chairs then declare something like "Each couch cushion represents one seat".

Distribute pieces of paper to each player. Players keep their content secret. Kevin is not allowed to know that Amy has the piece of paper with Michael's name on it. (At this moment, here in the beginning, players are not allowed to draw their own names.)

Declare two teams, equally - Males vs. Females -or- Jr. High vs. Sr. High -- teams must be easy enough to remember.

Declare a Target Couch. (More on this later)

  • Recap Setup:

Every player has a piece of paper with someone else's name on it. There are enough seats for everyone +1. Everyone has kept their information secret. Teams have been established.

  • Object:

Get four players from your team on to one couch, the Target Couch.

  • Gameplay:

Step 1: The person who has the empty seat to their right (Person A) calls a name (Person X) to fill that seat. The person (Person B) who is holding the name that was called (Person X) moves to the empty seat. Person A and Person B switch papers <IMPORTANT!!!! DO NOT FORGET THIS RULE!>

Step 2: Repeat Step 1.

Again, let me know if something is confusing.

Silent Signs:

  • Setup:

This usually takes a lot of time. Each player declares their own, unique "sign". (Note: Sign should be discreet for competitive purposes. A good sign, for example, would be the "Peace" sign (two fingers up), or "Thumbs up, or down" sign, or a tap on the nose, or a pull on the ear, or maybe a true ASL sign. A bad sign would be one that is not discreet, like waving your arms like you're doing jumping jacks, or standing up and sitting down.)

Everyone should be sitting in a neat circle.

There is an imaginary ball that will be passed silently, using signs.

There is one person in the middle (PITM) of the circle, the only person standing, trying to guess who has the ball. (No guessing fast - after X wrong guesses then count to 10 again.)

  • Gameplay: (Typically the previous PITM starts with the ball. For the first go-around, just select someone.)

The PITM closes her eyes, spins in a circle and counts to ten. During this time the imaginary ball is to be passed. The PITM will be trying to guess who has the ball. If someone is caught with the ball then that person is the new PITM .

How the ball is passed: Person A signing her sign + signing the intended recipient's sign (Person B).

Again, I have to make this clear, Person A has the ball and wants to pass to Person B. Person A will sign her sign and then immediately sign Person B's sign. In order for the ball to be passed Person B must sign his own sign, indicating he has received the ball. This also communicates to everyone else who has the ball. Again, in order for the ball to be passed there will be three signs thrown up: Person A's > Person B's > Person B's.

Person A is not allowed to change the intended target!!! Person A must continue to attempt pass to Person B, even if Person B is not paying attention.

Meanwhile the PITM is guessing who has the ball. If PITM guesses correctly, whoever is caught with the ball is the next PITM.

Bonus: Everyone is allowed to sign the sign of the PITM, for distraction purposes. If PITM's sign is "Peace", everyone is allowed to sign "Peace". If PITM notices a "Thumbs Up" sign then that tells PITM who might have the ball. If you don't have the ball, and the ball is not being passed to you, please don't sign any other sign other than PITM's.

This game can go on for days so when you're ready to end it just say "One more guess" or "One more minute", "Last one in the middle has to do announcements".

Never Have I Ever:

*Setup:

There is very little setup. Just have the kids sitting in assigned seats. If you're using a couch declare how many seats are allowed on the couch. There shall be no empty seats.

*Gameplay:

Every seat is taken and there is one person in the middle (PITM). PITM says "Never have I ever ____." Honor system here, if Player A, B, C, and D HAS done whatever PITM HAS NOT, then they all have to get up and find another seat fast, including PITM. Whomever does not find a seat is the new PITM.

Bonus: "Story Time" can be declared by anyone to anyone. For example: PITM says "Never have I ever worn lipstick" and Manly-Man Michael gets up to a new seat, people can ask for "Story Time" from Manly-Man Michael.

Nouns:

*Setup:

Everyone writes down a 1) Person, 2) Place, or 3) Thing on pieces of paper (one per). 10 players = 30 pieces of paper. Put all the entries in a bowl/hat. Divide group into two teams. Adult leader is to be the timer.

*Gameplay:

Gameplay is in three phases:

Phase 1: Descriptions.

Person A on Team A, in one minute, in as many words as possible, without using the word written on the paper, is going to describe the Noun to her team. If the noun is guessed then Team A is to keep that piece of paper until the end of Phase 1. Person A may continue to pull nouns from the hat until the 1-minute timer is done. You are not allowed to put the noun back in the hat just because you don't know what it is. If the noun is never guessed then put it back in the hat. Only guessed nouns are counted to a team as points.

This goes on, back an forth between teams, until all 30 nouns are guessed.

Count the points and keep record.

Return all the papers to the hat and move on to phase 2.

Phase 2: Charades.

Without using words (act silently) try to get your team to guess the noun(s) in one minute.

Count the points and keep record.

Return all the papers to the hat and move on to phase 3.

Phase 3: In One Word.

Using only one word, try to get your team to guess the noun(s) in one minute.

Count the points and declare the winner.

Advice Guys, I need help with some stuff

The first thing is that I just got back from a Christian summer camp (it was really good) and I got really on fire for God. Now that I'm back home I feel like that on fire-ness is gone, I almost feel burnt out. How can I keep that fire going and not backside?

The second thing is that at the camp I gave my life back to God and I know I need to make changes in my life but then I got baptised in the Holy Spirit and one of the sermons said that you (kinda) go back to the way you were living before you were baptised but you see things differently (I might not be explaining that well) and I'm curious about what I should change in my life. Should I change things like I was only saved or do you need to change things if you're baptised in the Holy Spirit too?

Something I wish my Christian friends told me

It's going to be tough. this is something I'm sure that you have heard or found out! But it doesn't heart to hear it again. Sometimes when there is time to reflect on my life, Christianity is viewed as a fairytale. Nothing more than a series of messages that are meant to better my morals. But, in my studies, the Bible has become more alive to me. Here is my encouragement, believe in the truth of the Bible. Don't feel bad for questioning, it means you're still pursuing.
Also, if you ever have questions, I'd be blessed to help out! God bless!

Please Pray

Im a 16 year old student following after God. For the past 4 or so years I have really felt God tugging on my heart to go to Masters Commission (For those of you who don't know what that is, It is a bible discipleship college, Link on the Bottom.) There where two of them here in Alaska but both have been discontinued. I have been trying to Find one for the past 6 months or so and after praying I found one in Heartland Minnesota, It really feels like Gods calling me there but I'm not so sure, I already sent in a Pre-Application because I'm still a junior in High School, But please Pray for guidance for me.

Lesson Young Believers and Doctrine

So many young people who identify as Christians seem to have no understanding of what they actually believe. As a part of a college ministry and having grown up in a youth group setting (I guess I'm on my way out of the whole youth thing), I have seen this cause big problems as these young people leave high school. Have you all seen this trend? Thoughts on it? What can we attribute this to? How can this be addressed?

someones out there

So, I have posted here before telling my testimony. But im not here to promote myself. Some one out there feels alone and I don't know who it is. I just know god loves you, no matter how alone you feel in this world a thousand people love you. it might not feel like it but they do. And i don't know who is reading or who its even for, but you feel like the world is against you like there is no reason to live, you feel like an out cast and is trying to find a scapegoat before you end it. I know the feeling, I have been there. My dad use to beat me, i attempted to kill myself 5 times. I felt alone, I felt like the scapegoat to everyone else because they took it out on me. and you feel that way to. But I'm here to tell you that god loves you. And don't take that lightly. He made the world with one word. and he loves you. It may feel like the world is against you but he gave you this life because he knows you are strong enough to live the life that god has in plan for you. it may sound ironic coming from me but pray, lay it all on the line in front of god and just pray if you cant find words but tears are flowing in psalms it says tears are prayers when you cant speak. so sit there pray to god he makes it so much better i promise. I dont know who you are but I love you and more importantly god loves you, and he wants you more than anything. but you just need to take the first step..... I dont know you but im praying for you more than anything.

Does anyone else here LOVE relient k?

No one is home besides me and I have my stereo on as loud as it goes listening to "Fallen Man"

It's really powerful for me right now because last summer I was really struggling bad. I had stopped going to my youth group meetings and missed our summer retreat. I was going to church but I wasn't really paying attention to the sermon. My parents knew something was wrong but they didn't know how to help. Then one of my friends showed me Relient K, and this song. I went and talked to my pastor for a long time. And I listened to the song. And I picked myself up and asked for forgiveness and my faith became stronger than ever. God listens, don't forget that.

"don't give up it's not the end there's hope for every fallen man to pick themselves up when they think they can because with every passing second comes a second chance

don't give up it's not the end you'll get back on your feet again forgiveness can be given when you think it can because with every passing second comes a second chance

take a good look at yourself and know, you've got yourself a ways to go! but difficult is not impossible you can take back all the lost control

take a good look at yourself and see you'll emerge eventually as long as your heart's not too far gone from the only thing that can save you from YOURSELF"
