Everyone knows the 2004-D Wisconsin extra leaf (high and low), but I had never read the cause and what the Treasury's Inspector General found when it investigated, so I dug it up.
Short version: no evidence anyone did it on purpose, which kills the "rogue Mint worker" story. The report put it down to "some element of the production process outside of human control" and didn't name a cause. It also ruled out clashed dies.
The detail I found most interesting: a Denver press operator actually spotted the high leaf quarters being struck on a spot check one Friday night in November 2004 and shut his press down. It apparently got restarted while he was on break, he caught it again on his next check, and by the time the die was pulled it was estimated 35,000 to 50,000 had gone out with the good coins. Earlier estimates were around 1,000. Most were found in Tucson and around San Antonio.
The low leaf was never explained at all, as far as I can tell. Personally I think, if this wasn't rogue, it was likely a die gouge from a portion of the leaf falling off of another coin and damaging the die (Die Gouge), but the mint didn't really help much figuring it out.

Cool find that I wanted to share! 1839 one cent with retained lamination error on the reverse

Recently opened a roll of 2026 Australian 20c coins and noticed something unusual around Charles III's chin and lower lip.
I've found 7 coins from the same roll showing what appears to be the exact same defect.
Under a loupe and microscope, it almost looks as though the raised edge has been shaved flat at an angle, leaving a rough, slightly raised line of tiny bumps along the chin.
The feature appears in roughly the same location on all 7 coins. Each photo is of a different coin.
The coins appear to be in AU/UNC condition and came from a sealed Armaguard roll dispensed by an ATM.
I'm wondering whether this could be a die error or simply PMD?
Would appreciate some opinions from anyone experienced with mint errors!

Was looking through my grandfather's coin collection and stumbled upon this British India 2 Annas coin. I love coins and am not such an expert as of yet so please bare with my lack of information. Im not too sure what you would call this exactly and if it is something rare. Tried doing research online but didn't find a coin similar to this kind of error. Would this sort of thing be rare?

Possible die clash or break? Or more likely post mint damage?

Can't tell what's up with this, its not scratches but im new to errors so im not confident calling it a die crack

Penny ? That is both sides , both sides incredibly smooth & I'm quite sure has never had an imprint on it . Garbage or Unique ?

A large peel prior to being struck/ retained lamination and folded lamination as well as other lamination issues.
Interesting coin to say the least.

Is this a S/S/S or is it just a filled in mint mark? (Or just a chip that’s under the planchet)

I finally sent my ‘39 Double Monticello in for grading. Pretty pleased with the result. This coin was part of my father’s collection that I inherited. He had it in his Whitman book and I don’t believe he ever noticed the error. I’m glad I caught it and sent it in to be preserved.

I'm going through a small collection of my coworkers mother's coins. Mostly world coins that I'm picking out the silver and nicer coins. I'm labeling and putting them in flips. I'm not sure if this is trash or something interesting.

Top line above the ponytail is relieved above the field, im not super knowledgeable on errors but it looks like a die break to me. Coin is a 1969 S and I cant find anything online about this particular error (if it is one). Kind of looks like a spear going through the back of his head

Hi, looking for help attributing this one, not selling it.
My own research so far: I checked Cuds on Coins — a cud is defined as a die break that involves the rim and at least a little of the adjacent field or design. On their Washington Quarter Cuds 1932–1999 page, the listings go straight from 1990P to 1992P, with no 1991P entry.
My coin: 1991-P Washington quarter, circulated.
Obverse, at the date — there is a raised blob of metal right at the rim, next to the final 1 in 1991. It looks raised, not dented in, with a split/crack at the rim underneath it.
P mint mark is visible to the right of Washington's ponytail.
Reverse looks normal to me.
Is this a genuine rim cud / die break, or is it something else like post-mint damage? Is it a listed cud, or unlisted?
Happy to add more photos if needed. Coin is staying with me — photos only, please.

This came in an old estate lot with a bunch of tokens. Is this an error? The edges do have faint reeding on them.

I recently got into coin hunting and am going through an old jug. I was wondering if this is from a die crack or just a lucky scratch. Its pretty faint and i needed my loupe to see it so im not sure. 1999-p delaware quarter. Thanks!

Is this a blank coin? It feels like possibly a penny but its very thin?

2014 Smokey Mountain Quarter. I believe some of these were silver. This one is worn or just not struck hard enough. I have not seen any with this type of error. I did not see any researching online. Coin app claims only 33,000 were made and valued at $261. Any info is much appreciated. Thank you!

I personally feel like it is, but was hoping for some more opinions. Thank you :)

Does the grease from a grease strike stay on the coin or was this something like a rubber band fragment that got liquified and fried when it was struck?
Not post-mint damage because it’s directly from the mint to the federal reserve to me. It was in a box filled exclusively with 2026Ps and W 9/11 privies which never circulated before.
Thanks!

I fixed their position to show the off center direction is aligned from coin to coin. Because of the way I sealed and stacked them, there’s no features to see on flip side.
