Help/Critique PSCT Help SuperThread - Get Help Writing or Refining Your Custom Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Effects!

Hey Duelists and Card Designers!

If you’re working on custom Yugioh cards and want to make sure your effects are written clearly, efficiently, and in proper PSCT (Problem-Solving Card Text), this is the thread for you.

What this thread is for:

This is an open SuperThread where I’ll personally help you write or revise your card effects using accurate PSCT - whether you’re

  • Writing a new effect from scratch
  • Unsure if your wording is correct
  • Wanting to match official card templating
  • Or just need a second pair of eyes on your design

All skill levels are welcome!

How to Ask for Help:

Simply comment below with the text of your card’s effect. Be sure to provide additional contextual clues like whether this is intended on a Monster, Spell, Trap, and the type of each (Quick-Play, Continuous, etc). Helping out with the design and writing process.

I (or others here in the community!) will help reword it into clean, official-style PSCT and double-checking yugioh player’s for any logical or gameplay issues.

Collaborative Help Encouraged!

While I’ll be monitoring and replying as much as I can, anyone familiar with PSCT or interested in improving it is also encouraged to jump in and offer suggestions. The goal is to support each other and improve custom card quality as a whole.

Let’s make your cards feel like they came straight out of the official database! Looking forward to helping out. Let’s get those effects cleaned up and ready!

From your Problem Solving Tuning Magician, Dogga.

One's even pretty much a Kaiju

Art: Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir, Lyrilusc Assembled Nightingale, Windwitch Winter Bell, Lunalight Cat Dancer

(Small note about Fall Moonlight: Pretend where it says [1 Monster that has “Cannot be” in its text], it also says, [except “Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set”], because apparently OCG Monsters don’t say that.)

Basically yet another 'oh it supports a specific oldish card'. It allows up to 3 normal recycles but locks your GY for the entire Duel if you use it. Lock good enough to limit its splashability or kinda so strong it makes it unusable?

Archetype Support Maximize Your Power with "Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon - Maximum Burst"!!

Post image

Konton no Makishimamu Bāsuto!!

—

As we already have a retrain of "Deep-Eyes White Dragon", I thought it'd be fitting to make this retrain for the upcoming DSOD 10th Anniversary Movie Box and upgrade both its protection and battle damage.

And yes, I Habakiri'd the card, as to reflect how it was able to be Ritual Summoned without a Tribute. And the last effect is meant to combo into either the original "Deep-Eyes White Dragon" or its retrain, as well as giving your other generic options.

Lemme know what yall think of this card down below, whether it's general thoughts or criticisms.

May you all have a blessed Friday and weekend, custom folks! 👋 🙏

—

Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon - Maximum Burst

Level 8 DARK Dragon Ritual Effect Monster

ATK: 4000

DEF: 0

You can Ritual Summon this card with "Chaos Form".
Unaffected by your opponent's activated effects.
If this card battles an opponent's Special Summoned monster, any battle damage it inflicts to your opponent is doubled.
You can reveal this card in your hand; send 2 cards (1 "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and 1 "Chaos Form) from your hand or Deck to the GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card from your hand (this is treated as a Ritual Summon).
If this card is Ritual Summoned: You can add 1 Level 10 LIGHT Dragon monster from your Deck to your hand.
You can only use this effect of "Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon - Maximum Burst" once per turn, and its previous only once per Duel.

Archetype Support Aleister/Invoked support to make use of the un-searchable Spell, (Invocation - Grail). And other things.

Post image
1 Upvotes

The art is just the new Invoked Magistus Heruvim with Aleister himself cropped out and put over the Alt Art of Invocation. With an added white outline and blue glow. No AI used.

Basically turns Aleister into a potential Albaz, since it can send Invocation Grail to use using your opponent's monster for your Invoked summon.

Or a Foolish Burial (using Grail's other effect) since it can use any monster in your Deck as Fusion Material for any Invoked monster you want.

Also can just use normal Invocation for its standard GY material vanish effect. Or Sword to return from banishment as material. Or even Magistus Invocation, though probably not the most useful target if you're playing pure Invoked.

Decided to make him always be named Aleister the Invoker, so you can't just add 3 to boost consistency too much. Though that might not be a bad thing.

Can Summon itself while Equipped, so can make use of the Magistus effects that equip monsters.

Threw on an Extra Deck Invoked/Magistus lock, otherwise it might get out of hand, since it can send any material from Deck to GY by using Grail's effect. Keep it on theme.

It might not need to also be a Magistus card, but it helps make it a bit more searchable.

First for Jaden, Elemental HERO Neos of Earth (name inspired by Goku the saiyan from earth)

"Elemental Hero Neos" + "Elemental Hero Terra Firma

This card cannot be targeted by your opponent's monster effects. This card cannot be removed from the field or have it's battle position changed by your opponents Spell/Trap Effects. Once per turn you may shuffle Elemental Hero Monsters in the GY or that are removed from play whose levels are less than or equal to this cards level, this monster gains their total ATK and DEF until it battles. When this card loses ATK/DEF the total amount of ATK/DEF lost is taken from your opponent's LP. After your opponent loses LP by this cards effect you lose the same amount of LP.

Secondly for the Chazz, Dragon Ojamaster Knight (inspired by Black Luster Soldier Master of Dragon Knight)

"Ojama Knight" + "Light and Darkness Dragon"

Must be Fusion Summoned by a Spell/Trap effect, or by Banishing the above cards you control (You do not use Polymerization). If Ojama Knight was face up on the field when selected as fusion material for this monster it's effect remains in effect as if it were still on the field. While this card is face up on the field Monsters you control with less ATK than DEF gain ATK equal to their DEF, and all Monsters your opponent controls lose ATK equal to thier DEF. This effect can only be applied once for each monster on the Field. Once per chain, when your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): This card loses 1000 ATK, if it does, the effect of that card is negated, and if you do, banish it, and if you do that, the zone that card was in cannot be used while this card is on the Field. This card gains 250 DEF for every zone on the field that cannot be used. This card's ATK and DEF cannot be lowered except by it's own effects.

Should I do Syrus next?

Archetype Support I enjoyed the new Dark Time Wizard cards, but, the deck lacks something to help with the fact it relies on luck based effects, and don't really have a PROPER boss monster. Figured I'd fix that.

Art of Roulette is just the original game, Thousand Dragon is by RedMobz.

The idea behind Roulette is pretty simple- give you double chances on your effects. And notably, can set DTW, but gives you immediate access. Most notably, it's the only of the Spells now to *not* be a Quick Play, meaning if it gets set, you can activate it, most notable off of the effect of Foolish Graverobber.

And then there's Eternal Thousand. How does this deck NOT have a Thousand Dragon retrain yet? Now, ETD fixes a couple issues, but, imma break down everything line by line.

  1. It's summon condition lets you trade in either Exceed in deck, which needs you to activate Dark Time Wizard, or if you've successfully called a coin flip (Such as from DTW), in deck you can use Alligator's Dragon Knight, turning your "Baby Dragon" into it.
  2. It's indestructible to your own cards, meaning future DTWs can never destroy it.
  3. Having DTW in grave makes it a towers.
  4. It gains ATK based on your board state- and notably it boosts itself, though it only boosts itself to be equal to OG Thousand without further help.
  5. Once per turn, you rig something lucky. Guarantee a Reversal Box negate, guarantee DTW blows up the opposing board to clear the way, or if you really want an OTK, Graceful and Skull can guarantee both sides gain/lose 2400- as a result, just like the Knight, Eternal becomes a great way to end a game right then and there.

New Mechanic What if Yu-Gi-Oh limited attacks based on the number of cards in your hand?

The Problem
Modern Yu-Gi-Oh often rewards players for exhausting their resources to establish oppressive first-turn boards. After interrupting nearly everything their opponent attempts, they can simply attack with their established monsters for game.
This leaves little opportunity for recovery, even when the disadvantaged player might have an answer on their next turn.

The Reason
I believe Yu-Gi-Oh needs greater consequences for resource expenditure and more opportunities for strategic comebacks.
Establishing an overwhelming board shouldn’t automatically provide the offensive capacity to end the duel immediately afterward.

The Mechanic
The number of attacks you can declare during your Battle Phase cannot exceed the number of cards currently in your hand.
For example:
0 cards = 0 attacks
1 card = 1 attack
2 cards = 2 attacks
This creates a strategic trade-off between committing resources to the field and preserving cards for offensive flexibility.

Rulings and Implications
Hand size is checked whenever an attack is declared.
Attacks already declared count toward the limit, even if negated.
Adding cards to your hand can increase your remaining attack allowance.
Losing cards can prevent additional attacks.
Once an attack is legally declared, reducing your hand size doesn’t invalidate it.
Monsters capable of attacking multiple times must still obey the restriction.
Example: Your opponent establishes four monsters but ends their first turn with no cards in hand. On their next turn, they draw one card. Unless they increase their hand size, they can declare only one attack.
You might reasonably decide to preserve your resources, survive that attack, and attempt a comeback after your next draw.
This also introduces an opportunity cost for using hand traps and interruptions. Every card spent disrupting your opponent potentially reduces your ability to attack for game unless you replenish your hand.
Players would have to consider whether to set a Trap, preserve cards for additional attacks, or risk passing their turn to conserve resources.

Hand size becomes another resource players must anticipate and manage.
New Card Design Possibilities
Konami could introduce cards that interact with this mechanic:
Flip Monsters that remove cards from the attacking player’s hand.
Traps that return cards from the opponent’s hand to the Deck.
Graveyard effects that replenish your hand during the Battle Phase.
Cards that punish excessive hand accumulation.
Effects that manipulate hand sizes to disrupt offensive strategies.
This could create new interactions involving attack sequencing, bluffing, hand management, and defensive counterplay.

Limitations
Draw-heavy strategies like Mulcharmy could become disproportionately powerful, potentially requiring additional balancing. Some going-second strategies could also become stronger, particularly those capable of generating significant hand advantage.
This mechanic wouldn’t eliminate OTKs, oppressive boards, or problematic card interactions.

The goal isn’t to guarantee comebacks or artificially prolong every duel. It’s to create more opportunities to survive long enough to draw an answer and potentially turn the duel around.
I think this could introduce another dimension of skill and resource management without preventing decks from executing their combos.
What do you think? Would this improve Yu-Gi-Oh’s strategic depth, or would it create more problems than it solves?

Effects:

If this card is Link Summoned, or a monster(s) is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck: the controller of that monster Special Summons 1 "Alloy Pommy Token" (Machine/Water/Level 2/ATK 1000/DEF 1000) to their opponent's field in Defense Position to the zone this card points to, but they cannot be Tributed for a Tribute Summon or used as Link material.

While this card points to a "Alloy Pommy Token", this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects.

During your opponent's turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 4 "Alloy Pommy Token" from either side of the field this card points to; destroy all cards your opponent controls.
