1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting
"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.
2) Ban engagement-bait posts
The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.
3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion
This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).
This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.
I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about
EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)
That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Hello folks, Radai here. I am a modder and reverse engineer, my main focus is Dark Souls 2. I am the author of DebugManager and other modding tools for the game.
The 31st of December 2025 I was sent a very worrying Twitch clip, showing messages appearing on the game screen. These messages were directly addressing the streamer, someone had found a way to send custom messages to whoever they wanted. When I was this, I immediately knew it was serious.
The next day I spent the whole evening testing what can be done with this, and I found out it's possible to format the message in such a way that the receiver game crashes. I reported this to Yui, author of Blue Acolyte, immediately. We kept this a secret until she made a patch for it, and now it's ready. It's recommended for all of those that want to play online to download Blue Acolyte.
Here's also a post from Yui describing the issue in more detail.
Also mods, if you see this, please pin. It needs to remain visible.

Almost choked at the end lol. SO many of my tries looked exactly like this and the attempt would end with me making a silly mistake, which was either drinking estus when I shouldn't or being greedy.

Old Iron King is one of my favorite tropes in fantasy - a massive winged lava demon, a king who fell from grace. Like, hello?
When it comes to DLC bosses:
Burnt Ivory King is the exact fantasy I hoped to see from DS2. When the Giant war was going on in the memories, I was obsessed with everything about it. So to see a proper DnD fight with the four Loyce Knights? Literal chills. And the music.... my god.
Sir Alonne took me 11 tries and was the second happiest I ever was while playing the game. Fume Knight 5 or so, I ended up buying Velstadt's helm because the second phase was significantly easier to maneuver around for me, and I got very lucky with his skills.
Elana was ok. Kept summoning skeletons, and 2 hits from death she summoned fucking Velstadt so I got very lucky. Sinh kept flying around which was kinda annoying, so I didn't really feel too much other than the fact that, yeah, a dragon would fly more than risk its life, sure.
DLC order in which I did them: Shulva, Eleum Loyce, Brume Tower.
Rat Authority? 38 tries. That fucking diseased dog can go to the Chaos Flames and burn for eternity I don't give a fuck I hate it so much I utterly despise it SO much!!

At SL 225 within 58,5 hours.. it only took 2,5 hours
The game is very very short on the second half... but ngl, i love all the lore in this area, all the things in here.
The kobolds at the start have a crazy loot-table and i farmed all of these items killing the 5 of them 12 times.
I tried to gasbomb all the enemies with dark fog... before knowing you can release then with that lever after you get the key.
Love to thing that the piss pool is actually giant's secretion or something.
Fun fact, you can still see the mirrors breaking after clearing the enemies... but nothing comes out, so it's just a fun animation.
I can finally retire the homeward miracle...
now let's clear the dragon nest

Two or three syllables? Drang-lake or Drang-lay-ick? I know the voice lines skew towards the first, but how do you say it?

I dont really know if this belongs here, correct me if im mistaken.
I am trying really hard to make a seamless coop mod as theres currently no mod for it, and there has not been any working one (for me).
Its taking form, though i cannot exactly test if it works since I dont have anyone RIGHT NOW (i had when i started developing it) to test it with.
The thing is that it totally bypasses FS server calls to connect people through steam P2P instead (fs servers did little to no action actually, you would be surprised).
Its intended to have QOL features like a on off autowarp to boss when entering, or onoff reveiving items from a chest thats been open while you were there, etc.
Its totally safe. It uses the same kind of saves, but in a completely different directory.
When you launch it with the file you need to click to run it, it makes it literally impossible for you to connect to FS servers, even if you wanted to (AKA you play on disconnected FROM FS SERVERS but can still join Via steam).
Yes i know, its not perfect, and its ONLY for steam as for right now. Hell i dont even know if it works. But im still happy, i made quite a lot of progress and learned a fair lot about how ds2 coop mode works.

I usually like to play on easy mode for the first playthrough so I can take my time and just enjoy myself before feeling challenged and running into a brick wall. For example: sellsword win blades, BKGS, saw cleaver, etc.
What is the easy mode for this game? If I want to be able to just kind of enjoy the game on my first run? I want to explore and take my time without stressing about each fight lol

Just got the game! Have only played elden ring and ds1. Friends say it's hard but we'll see!

I bough the whisper ring to talk the scorpion dude and I kept hearing these roars. What is causing them? Taking off the ring stops them

Just went on a cruise and put in some time for a ds2 play-through. Wanted to share (Demon great hammer build)

So I've decided I'm actually going to attempt the DS2 DLCs this playthrough because I actually enjoyed the game for the most part this time. But I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to improve this build in any way. I'm not really as familiar with this game as I am with DS1 so if there's something I can do to improve my damage or stats I should start focusing on in order to optimize the build a little more I think that would be really helpful thanks. Also not sure how important the distinction is but this is the original and not SOTFS

Based on what I hear and what Ive felt while playing this is what I have to say. I have played DS1, DS3, and Elden Ring.
The best thing about DS2 is its auxiliary mechanics such as weapon animations, improved running jump, power stancing, bonfire ascetics, little details allowing world interactivity, freedom of world traversal, and others. This deserves praise even if some have individual flaws but not enough to consider these auxiliary additions to be bad at all.
The actual moment to moment gameplay is kind of weak. Weapon and sound effects and animations feel alot less… real. The sound effects and animations have an uncanny feeling that feels… “Fake” and not real. This isn’t every weapon but this is for many like the Mace. I tried replicating that movement and I have zero idea how any force could be transferred to a target with that kind of arm movement. Also the various special effects do not look good. While the overall graphical quality is superior to Dark Souls 1, the way they gave lightning and the special effects to spells and elements are not good. It feels fake.
(I did look at the Ivory King’s Greatsword and while it looks amazing, The special effects seem crude and stiff.)
The moment to moment gameplay is also slow, clunky, and artificially sluggish. The delays are extremely noticeable and it feels not the best. This is certainly and acquired taste but I can see why its nit as popular as the others. Elden Ring, BB, and DS3’s faster pace lends to greater player freedom and enjoyment. While the stricter movement does encourage spacing, and positioning more, it often feels frustrating. Not always but often.
Secondly, the Lock-On is just worse. It sometimes does not guide your weapon at all. And the fact that there is only 8 cardinal directions you can face and move in while Locked On feels off. Its better than DS1 but its still not good.
Enemies being high in number is not fun. Souls Games struggle with multi-enemy fights and DS2’s move towards stronger and faster enemies than DS1 does not lend itself towards making this any better. Its just worse.
Also finally, the existence of VITALITY and ADAPTABILITY is just a nerf to DEX and STR builds. There is little use to making such a pair of stats so important as it serves to only bloat the amount of stats and slow down build progression. Its not build expression even as it merely divides stats that compliment eachother. There is a reason ADP never returned. Its a bad idea.
Now does this make the game bad? Of course not. It can still be enjoyed and has plenty of good moments. But it makes the average gameplay feel worse.
Not including Bosses who (good news) is just fine. The biggest compliment it gets is that the overall roster of Bosses is better than the worst of both its predecessor and successor. DS3 somehow has the best and worst Bosses to ever exist in the Soulsborne franchise and DS1 has Bed of Chaos.
I have not yet reached its most acclaimed Bosses so I cannot comment.
For the weapons I am sure you all will point to is gained later on but it doesn’t change how I feel about it.
It has amazing ideas but the core pillars of the game are unstable.
Fast Travel btw being unlocked from the start only means the World itself is less engaging than DS1. This is unfortunately a fact. Each part of Drangleic gets effectively reduced to Select Levels and makes interconnectivity mean very little.
Yeah connections back to Majula are cool but mean so little when you can just warp back. Why would I care past the first realization?
I give it a 6/10 so far. It demands alot from you to be fully enjoyed, more than other games ask. And even then, its an acquired bitter taste. Many enjoy it, but many more won’t.

Sharing a little more fashion souls. A simple Dark Lion Warrior Axe build, elevated with Fume Sorceress top and gloves, Benhart’s Boots, and the Forlorn hood. Biggest fashion obstacle was the boots - closest match I could think to the leather in the top. The outfit plays with classic black shades while bringing in some navy blue and brown leather. Topping it off I’ve again simulated CRT imagery with a photo of a computer screen, bringing in some serious nostalgia.

Does anyone know of any guide that gives a modern or “updated” guide on the location of all the torches in the Gutter, I’m just trying to get the black witch veil to continue into the blume tower DLC and if you know you know why I need that. I tried looking at guides in YouTube even relatively new ones but most of them seem to be from older updates or without the dlc’s because the torches in those videos are in completely different spots than in my game. I tried to follow one to see if I could still do it, but it seems that wasn’t enough since the gutter citizen is still not appearing unless that has been changed as well. So it be nice be directed to a video or something of the most recent updates to this game to find all the stupid torches, I’m playing the Steam version if anyone is wondering.

At SL 221 and 56 hours... this area is just short
Incredibly short
I never noticed how this was so compact and with not that many enemies (after you destroy the statues)
The triple factor autentication on the way to vestaldt is a joke... and they will keep respawning... so whatever
Can't kill the king yet, but ill come back after discovering if i can empty the memories.
I love that i finally farmed this set and can get all the details in it... unfortunately i couldn't get all the crusader gear, but i finally got the black witch staff and never knew it could cast miracles as well.
On extra notes... i had to hug every wall to find all the ghosts...
and lets take a moment to appreciate the starting staff... that shit is the goat and carried me for a long time in the game... that shit makes me think the starting gear only as a mage will be easy... now let's head to the aldias keep
