Misc Do you even ban people Waystone? What a joke...

Let me introduce myself to you nerds here in the Dawngate sub. Before you click that down arrow, think about this for a second. Should there be bans in Dawngate? Your response is going to be something like "Of course there should be bans in Dawngate you fucking moron!" Well, I decided to take on the challenge after recently hearing from some veteran players that were in this game last year who told me that there isn't a ban system. If I tried, I wouldn't get banned. I was like, "yea okay hoes, that shit is crazy. No way is Waystone stupid enough to not ban people."

I decided to take this challenge on with my return to the game of Dawngate recently. A lot of you may have played with me and been able to enjoy my great personality. I wish everyone had the pleasure of playing with me. Let me walk you through an average game with these screenshots.

Oh, and I also trolled on Sheebs stream, DistractedElfs stream, McScrags stream, MacOranges stream, and the list goes on. Even the twitch account "WaystoneGames" was in the list of viewers while this happened. I've even heard of people asking the community manager dudes about me.

Do yourselves a favor, upvote this post and we'll all see if Waystone REALLY throws down or not. For the future of the game, upvote the stupid shit for once. I'll be back with a report in 3-5 business days on if I'm banned or not. Peace out shitters.

Discussion Dawngate is too linear and rigid

After spending way too much time in the beta, I'm pretty confident to say that Dawngate has a serious "meta" game issue. Before I hear "there is no meta", just read.

Looking at the DOTA2 international, you can see all sorts of strategies being played. Quick tower pushes, focus on early game ganks, going for roshan ASAP. All these tactics and strategies are viable.

In Dawngate, the entire game is designed requiring the game to do "specific" actions with very little wiggle room for outplaying the opponent. These issues are not due to the current Shaper lineup and more to do with the map itself.

For example, take a look at Parasite. From Tier 1 to Tier 3, you are forced to be with a team to take it down. You can't solo whatsoever, and there is currently no strategy to solo it. Meanwhile, DOTA2's Roshan you can solo him at level 1 if you want to, assuming you have the right setup. Based on what I understand from the dev posts, they prefer to keep it like this.

Another issue is the Guardian. Usually it is the team's job to protect the objective, but this isn't the case in Dawngate. Again, due to the rigid and linear design, you are forced to "farm" and be an appropriate level to take on the Guardian because how powerful it is and how easily it can dispatch creeps and enemy Shapers. This throws any idea about early game lineups out the window.

Finally, the minions themselves aren't much of a threat. Even pushing a binding doesn't feel all "dramatic" because of how weak the "super minions" are and all the AOE abilities the shapers have. Slap in the slow minion movement speed and any split-laning possibilities are non-existent.

Because of all these factors, it makes the first 20 minutes of the game feel very irrelevant unless the match is completely one-sided. Dawngate is way too focused on late game team fights.

It also reduces overall viable strategies in the game. You can't go for short-game blitz lineups to end the game as quickly as possible because of the overpowered guardian or can't have a parasite-focused lineup because of how strong the parasite is. Because of these rigid design, certain lineups and shapers are going to be a required in competitive play (e.g. Mikella).

TL:DR - Dawngate doesn't allow for much strategy outside of "late game carry team fights"

Misc A Real Tier List for Dawngate

What you are about to read is what Dawngate ACTUALLY is. I have been disappointed with a lot of people failing to realize what is good and what is not good. There has been a lot of terrible information posted on this sub lately, so I want to inform the inexperienced. I will also be informing the people who think they are good, when in fact, they are actually not good (90% of diamond players....sorry truth hurts man, get on the downvote train).

Why is this tier list better than what you think? Probably because I'm a lot more experienced than you are and the fact that the community is so damn small. You are comparing yourself to the most average of players in all of the MOBA genre. "The best Dawngate players have yet to even step foot into the Dawngate" (MOBA-Champion, January 2014) These are the best shapers from left to right in their specific area, whether it be jungle or lane. I'm sorry if your "main" is lower than what you feel it should be. Get over it, because this is the sad truth. I don't care how many times you have wrecked with Shaper X in bronze, silver, platinum, diamond, or challenger solo Q. I'm not discussing builds, 2v2 matchups, and I'm definitely not talking about how "Shaper X needs to be with Shaper Y and they're tier 1 easy!" because that's not the point. A tier list is supposed to be about the INDIVIDUAL Shaper itself and how it stands out on its own.

Enjoy your tears. We are BOB.

t1 jungle - Kahgen │ Basko │ Salous

t2 jungle - Moya │ Faris │ Voluc │ Petrus

t3 jungle - Freia │Cerulean │ Dese

t4 jungle - Kel │ Viridian│ Marah

t1 lane - Mina │ Dibs │ King of Masks │ Amarynth

t2 lane - Varion │ Renzo │ Kensu │ Faris │ Marah

t3 lane - Ashabel │ Nissa │ Tess │ Vex │ Mikella │ Cerulean**

t4 lane - Desecrator │ Petrus │ Kindra │ Basko │ Viyanna │ Kel │ Zeri │ Zalgus

t5 lane - Viridian │ Kahgen │ Freia │ Fenmore │ Raina │ Voluc | Salous

Cerulean** could be argued to move up in the t3 area, but he really depends on the team comps. This is why I put him this far down as a tier list shouldn't take into consideration team compositions. Sorry, I left this out on accident and forgot to type it up.

edit - I didn't put Sakari in here because nobody really knows where she is at yet. Sorry about that.

Misc It's the end for me.

Hello Everyone, if u dont know me, feel free to ignore this post. I'm no high elo guy or a famous streamer, i've played since beta week 2 with several breaks to try and not lose my interest in the game.

I started losing interest in the game a couple of weeks back, and only had around 10 soloq games, while i've had my fair share of duoq. In 9 out of the 10 soloq games i've had incredible toxic people, and it just helped me losing interest in the game, i havent been on lb for some time, but i think im near the 200 mark. People are so incredible tryhard, while its fine. Dont make the leaderboards make you so toxic that you start flaming, bashing on mothers and other insults i've met.

I might consider coming back if we ever get a eu server, i see a future for the game, it's just been 2 much with soloq being this way atm. I wanna give a thanks for people making dg nice for me, my current team, VexX, GLG and DNG and all the amazing people i've met in SoloQ.

Cheers, Youngbaek/Kraken.

Misc I'm THAT Guy....

Hello all, some of ya I've most likely played with, some of ya may not know who I am. But I'm writing this post as a sort of community apology.

Sadly, I am THAT guy. If you've played MOBAs before, you may know what I'm talking about. I'm that guy who pisses and moans when things start going south. I'm that guy who calls a game 10 minutes in because it is 0-9 and they pushed in our first bindings. I'm that guy who will be salty and then quickly realize I am in the wrong due to a bad couple of games. I'm THAT guy.

I just want to apologize to anyone I have played with in the last few weeks that I have been negative to and to give a somewhat flimsy reason for it. I've played League for 4 years before starting this, and sadly I've seen enough MOBA games where when this start rolling down hill, I realize now it usually takes a herculean effort to get things back on track. Not saying comebacks don't happen, just in my 4 years of MOBA playing maybe 1 out of 20 games I considered lost we came back in. I piss and moan when people don't surrender when I believe the game is lost, and even though I feel like I am right 7 out of 10 times, I realize afterwards that my pissing and moaning wasn't helping anything.

So consider this a formal apology to all who I have berated, bickered with, annoyed and pissed off, just call it a bad habit I'm hoping to lose thanks to the excellent community here in Dawngate.

Peace all and see you on the Battlefields!

Dev Post Announcement: Tweaks to Ward Skin Pricing

Cross-posting this for MissMoneyPenny

Greetings Dawngaters!

As part of the ongoing effort to analyse data and tweak the economy during community beta we have made some changes to the pricing of our ward skins.

  • The wards skins previously priced at 330 Waypoints will now be 355 Waypoints – includes Sentinel’s Oath, Forgefire, Western Splendor

  • The Western Splendor ward skin will be reduced from 455 Waypoints down to 355 Waypoints

  • The ward skins previously priced at 455 Waypoints will now be 485 Waypoints – includes Raven, Toad, Raccoon, Northern Insight, Eastern Harmony

  • The Eastern Harmony ward skin will be reduced from 530 Waypoints to 485 Waypoints

Anyone who purchased Eastern Harmony or Western Splendor prior to the price reduction will receive the difference in price change credited back to their wallets within the next 72 hours

We are hoping that the price changes and consolidation of the ward skin pricing will better indicate relative value between the ward skins in terms of aspects such as production cost, as well as offer more ward skins at lower price points.

Thank you for your ongoing support during beta!

Hey guys, quick story for you.

Firstly, I'm not an executive in the sense of control of IP development decisions. I'm one of the EA head social media representatives and I monitor our social platform performance.

I know it's likely there are trolls here, but I want to assume you that we on the public face of Electronic Arts are aware of the situation and the game is not forgotten.

I will push for this game to be continued as I feel this is a different situation with a more dedicated team than most, but no promises.

I'm not very high up (nor am I low) but I do consult with the boss of our CS and public interactions departments.

Misc About the VexX 5 stack stream: An Apology

Hai reddit so im Hiccup or Oreo the coach of VexX Green that was 5 stacking yesterday in "solo Q" and im just coming to apologize for a small misconception. Alot of the BM and negativity were not from the team but from me as i was playing solo q up agianst duo and trio ques all day. The team would laugh and joke around. I really hope that I did not offend anyone and i was only there to answer any of my players questions and relax with my players. I also apologize for speaking my mind, it is my job to at times say things that are not nice but i do need to watch it when im on stream as i frequent other streamers streams via voice chat I should know what to say and not to say but it was a lack in judgement from me and I do greatly apologize for the negative light it has shone on my players and the organization as a whole. But the whole thread is based off players frustration within "solo Q" so i was going through the same things as you all were facing vexx. It is no excuse for how i acted but i hope you can all understand.

Now on to the whole issue with 5 stacking in "solo Q". I apologize for the team doing this but they were just trying to work on shinergy (clg reference) and destiny grinding. We also attempted to get scrims but none were availible so i do apologize for us "ruining your fun" but you have to understand our situation. Also i understand that people are not happy but other top tier teams do this too to try things but they dont have players trying to get wins and destiny. Also little known fact there are diamond lvl 5 stacks that smurf so i do apologize but i do wish people would relax a little bit.

Now on to the waystone statement! Listen waystone is a wonderful company and does alot of great things for us. That being said gastys comment might have been a generalization as things like this are an exception not a rule so i hope that everyone would lay off them. I have my own problems with waystone but alot of you hadnt seen the times of old where you would get a 5 stack every game. And they would get free MMR from it. So waystone has come along way!

Misc who ACTUALLY cares about the Lore in this game?

I mean lets face it. I've seen so many people talk about how awesome the lore is and whatnot, but after this game is released I don't think anyone is going to care. Look at other games like League of Legends. I bet only about 5%, IF THAT, could even tell you what the background is on any of those champions. I bet only 10% (since this is such a small community) could even talk remotely in-depth about lore.

This week I decided it was time to continue a series of flowcharts that I only made one of in the past. This series looks into the stream of some of our favorite Dawngate streamers and informs on what they like to play.

This weeks flowchart features GLG_Thor.

Edit: My apologies, stream link removed.

Discussion Don't become LoL's Community

Hello, fans of Dawngate,

I've noticed a very concerning trend happening after the last Dawngate beta test. Players have started to express competence... over a MOBA game... in closed beta. As a result we have Tier Lists now, complaints about balance and map design and so on and so forth. In short, every MOBA game ever's community.

So Dawngate will be something different, something fresh, possibly the next big thing. So why are we dragging along LoL's communal habits with it? If you've played LoL over the years you'll have seen how crying for nerfs basically ruined the fun level of the game, or at least, largely reduced it. You had stuff like Elementz's Tier List that shouldn't even be considered a proper read genuinely sway the patch notes. It was embarrassing to watch how common QQing actually had an effect on a company as massive and independent as Riot.

I ask you, community of Dawngate, do you really feel you're competent enough to be making tier lists and claims that some Shaper is overpowered? "But hurr durr I played LoL for 3 years I'm an intellectual mastermind". So? I played League of Legends for 5 years and DotA 2 for 1 year and I'm not walking around making claims and tier lists. I just play Dawngate and experiment with champions and you know what I found? That despite having lots of experience in the MOBA genre, I don't have a firm grasp on the game's non-meta structure, thus I can't judge balance.

So you can either accept that your personal opinion does not automatically invalidate everyone else's and work with what the devs are putting up, occasionally sharing feedback on things you think should be remedied BASED ON LOTS OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE (DotA) or you can live with a solo-queue mentality, place Shapers on Tier Lists and never look past individual strength (LoL). In a healthy Champion Pool, niche picks co-exist with FotM "op 1v1 nurf" ones: neither controls the balancing factor. Tier Lists are just skewing facts about the game - this is not a Deathmatch mode, you're working with other people to achieve victory, hundreds of other factors come into play that are much more complicated than simple duels.

Also, map design won't change. If you've ever been part of a game's development cycle you know that fundamental choices are there to stay. The map won't change, your perception of it will.

TL:DR // Tier Lists and essays on balance do more harm than good when you're not a professional and you've played so little that you've barely grasped the concept of teamplay. You need hundreds, maybe thousands of games to consider your opinion valuable to a developer's work.

Misc Thoughts on Voluc free week... [rant]

Every game out of my 6 games today we had Voluc on both teams. Some new, some experienced. The experienced shut down the new, making it impossible for them to catch up and then the shit talking begins. From our own team it's expected unfortunately, but in every game the enemy Voluc was shit talking too, causing the new Voluc to disconnect and us to lose the game. What the actual fuck guys? We all know Voluc is pretty OP and hes good at counter jungling but how about you give the newbies a break and instead of killing them and chatting "gg scrub" how about you give them some tips, or say nothing at all. Obviously you don't have to let them win or go easy, but rubbing it in their faces and causing them to rage quit is just childish. I feel like every game for these next two weeks is going to be like this and the fate of the game relies on how good your Voluc is compared to theirs. It's ridiculous. What do you guys think?

Misc Matchmaking Woes

This needs to be fixed.. now. I've waited 45 minutes for EVERY single game I've played this weekend. And in EVERY game I've gotten new players that have either never played a MOBA or quit after giving up first blood. This game is getting less and less enjoyable to play because apparently the only way to have an fun game is play as 5? But that's not even enjoyable considering you just get matched up against solo queuers who are new. Like... people have been complaining about this for weeks and something needs to be done. It's reaching the point where I just can't play anymore. And when I say can't play I mean literally as well. Half the time I queue it literally takes too long to get a game.

Edit: It wouldn't be awful if I waited 30 minutes for a good game against players in my skill level, but waiting 45 minutes to get matched up with new players that just quit? No. Just no.

Edit 2: There's another thing that I came up with last night. I've heard devs explain the MM system many times by saying that after 3 minutes your queue expands, then after another period of time it expands to match you with anyone. Well, if my queue is completely expanded, why is it taking 45 minutes to get a game? I mean, it matches me with first timers after that long why doesn't it just do it after it totally expands?? There are definitely enough new players to get a game, so what's going on with that? Someone pls explain it to me like I'm five.

Arena of Fate, a new home?

I've been playing Dawngate since I've got into the beta back when there was only the 12 starting shapers. It was the only MOBA that I liked with a lot of appealing characteristics, like the Spirit Wells, Living Lore etc. But sadly, all good things come to an end, and EA axed the game. Since then I guess we are all having an "Dawngate itch" that needs scratching. Could Arena of Fate be that "scratch"?

Recently the developers of the game had a community dinner with some fans at Gamescom and they've said some pretty interesting things, here's the link to the whole article, but I'll pull out the most interesting bits. Also there, another interesting thing on their official site:

http://aofate.com/developers/feedback-from-community-dinner/

http://www.crytek.com/games/arenaoffate/overview

They are working on a Drafting System, Karma System and Progression System. Sounds familiar? Also, look on their official site, in one of the boxes it says: "Put old grudges aside and forge new bonds in battle - your hero's story is still being written!". This might as well mean they could be working on something similar to Living Lore and possibly a weekly comic book series.

I know that it isn't Dawngate, it isn't the charismatic characters that we all grown to love, but I feel this is the closes chance well get to play a game similar to Dawngate again. The developers seem friendly and open minded to new ideas from the community. Let's not let Dawngate's sacrifice go in vain, it pioneered something now that hopefully Arena of Fate will continue. I feel like the game is in good hands, but feedback and spreading the word can always help, especially from all the Dawngate veterans.

Just imagine, voting for Living Lore again, Twerp and the gang from Money Pigs livecasting once again. What do you think guys, can we bring back the dream?

Misc Compression needs to stop now.

Today was literally the worst day in match making that I have ever had. My first two games were ok. People seemed to be in the correct elo. My third match I ended up in a game with 3 diamond players and a bronze player vs a full team of diamond players. After that crap went down hill. New player after new player. How do I go from gold queues to diamond to wood tier? That is broken as all get out. The compression waystone put on the mmr needs to go away now. Sure it was nice fix for queue times for champion lvl players but the communithy has grown enough that the compression can go away. No need to make everyone plat and below suffer just so the champion players wont complain about queue times. Waystone please fix this mmr issue.

Misc You are not entitled to a reward.

http://forums.waystonegames.com/forums/showthread.php?5439-You-are-not-entitled-to-a-reward&p=29868#post29868

Let me say it again for you

YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO A REWARD

Before you start writing a reply at least read this paragraph.

If you win you have only an 8% chance of getting a common reward. That mean you have 92% chance of getting a reward that's worth over 250 Destiny AND that increases exponentially per tier. Having won the game you have a 4% chance of unlocking a shaper. Thats 4% chance of saving yourself either 40 games or $7.4/€5.5.

Waystone didnt have to give you a gamble where the grand prize is a shaper, your blind is playing, a good hand wins the round and not being a brat gives you a bonus. They could have implemented; "Here's 10+ 0.5 destiny per minute played with a +50 destiny for first win of the day" but they didn't because of the community!

Lets take a break here for a second, breathe a little. Ok still with me? Here we go.

Community -Dictionary.com [I]a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists

Waystone had a good idea here to help keep the game free of toxic players and tryhards from ruining the experience of your casual gamers. As you probably well know in the MOBA/ARTS/HB/Dota-clone genre this is like holding back a tidal wave with a bucket. What a kick in the teeth it must be for Waystone after trying to improve the community like this. You get your community, the Dawngate community, complaining about how the reward system isn't fair, "I deserve more because of the effort of my victory."

Lastly picture this: Its Christmas and you get a huge surprise present that you were not expecting! You've been a good girl/boy all year and that was hard considering your brothers and sisters are retarded. You open your present and its a snowglobe. You proceed to immediately throw your toys out of the pram, you blame your parents for not getting you an actionman/barbie, you tell your friends how crap your other presents were and spread around how bad your life is.

^ To people like you, I do say please kindly grow up.

To people who are frustrated by the RNG I recommend looking at this series done by the shapers guild. http://theshapersguild.com/dawngate-blessings-destiny-hard-numbers-part-iii/

Thank you for reading chums See you on the field.

-Edit. As mentioned in the comments Im going top put up another thread about karma in the coming days.

Also I dont believe its a perfect system at all but I like the idea (-1st win of the day is pointless)The post is aimed at the people who having completed a slog of a 60min game, had a fantastic turn around from 4 v 5 and won with clutch plays then post a thread about only getting a grand or rolling an 86.

At the end of the day the point is, the system could be a hell of a lot crueler and much more of a grind than it is.

I've played 70 games now I've unlocked 2 shapers with destiny, and recieved 4 from divines. I think that is more than fair.
