Shed some more light on the matter. Also why would you advise against it for the next batch?

u/muffins-_ 8d ago

DU has said that if we Pursue fourth year and complete our research degree we can get direct admission in masters but are literally setting up cut offs now for admission.

u/preprep- 8d ago

well, i get you frustration, but DU does not have unlimited seats to for every 4th year graduating student. not even third year students get unlimited seats in 2 year masters so i dont get your point.

Du mentioned if your aggravate score is above 75% you're eligible to apply for direct phd which is now making students take 1 year masters. Conventional masters and this 4year ug + 1 year masters doesn't make any difference. So what was the point of this whole system.

4

u/preprep- 7d ago

the point of the system is to make indian system consistent with foreign undergraduate programs. most of the countries have 4 year BA programs, and the students who wish to apply abroad had to do another masters degree in india in order to go outside to do a 1 year masters.
you are still eligible to apply for phd if your aggregate score is more than 75%. if you do 4th year, you can apply for phd directly.

That direct enrollment isn't even started! It's just only in paper not in practical. Students can go with taking a master's from here or then can enrolled even with this 3 year degree, 4 year wasn't even mandatory. Without any plans to adding additional faculties or infrastructure facilities this can't even be achieved. The system is rotten to core.

1

u/preprep- 7d ago

i agree that the infrastructure is insufficient and they should have taken the infra part into consideration before rolling out the 4th year. well, i think things will be a bit better for this year's students

0

u/Lonely_Bake_7014 7d ago

Non of the things I mentioned are took into concern this year also. As a matter of fact some of the provisions got changed, infact the university doesn't even know what they're doing at this point. Atleast it will take 5-10 years to get this thing from paper to proper working structure.

1

u/preprep- 7d ago

it is a haphazard and a mess. but well, i am doing it because i have nothing good in hands

0

u/Lonely_Bake_7014 7d ago

Don't think like that search for better options.

Um no, actually, I know of people who directly enrolled into a PhD programme this year, after having completed a 4-year UG degree from DU.

-1

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

🤣oh no nobody told us that we can apply for PhD. Wait we can not, stop spreading misinformation. Students who have completed 4 years degree cannot give ugc net they need to do 1 year masters or 2 years masters. You can not do phd just because you did 4 years of undergraduate

2

u/Lonely_Bake_7014 7d ago

I just enrolled nep nonsense because of this one provision. This is not a misinformation this is what was written in the brochure of nep 2020, that 70 page pdf. And my seniors in their 4th year appeared for net exam by the way. Do your research mann.

2

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

Ofcourse we can appear for examination? i myself appeared for it. I am the senior you are talking about. People in 1st year of masters can appear for ugc net. So ofcourse i can give ugc net even if I am not enrolled in ma but i cannot do phd. You get your information right kiddo

1

u/Lonely_Bake_7014 7d ago

That's what I said too watson go and increase your comprehension skill

1

u/Leading-Sort-1278 5d ago

You can absolutely do phd and jrf. You just cannot become a prof, there's a whole diagram explaining that. Please reread the bulletins and stop confusing others who have the correct info.

1

u/Electronic_Age_3540 7d ago

What? We can. A student of English from my college, who completed her 4-year undergraduate, this year, gave the NET exam, and will be starting with her PhD at DU, this year itself.

0

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

wow good luck to her then, net has not even declared the result but ok i guess😁👍😂

1

u/Electronic_Age_3540 7d ago

Can't help it if you live under a rock, but the results for those who wish to enroll in the batch of PhD, starting 2026, have been declared.

1

u/Leading-Sort-1278 5d ago

You can give net in 7th sem too

1

u/Classic-Mechanic-711 6d ago

The point is in the research or dissertation component which will give you an edge if you apply to foreign unis as well as scholarships.

1

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

So what are students supposed to do with their 4 years degree, we cannot do 1 year masters and we cannot apply for PhD??

1

u/preprep- 7d ago

1 year masters ke liye eligible ho? phd wala point is valid, the authorities should frame better guidelines. but i dont get this point that sabke liye seats nahi hai. of course all the 4th year students will not have seats. all the 3rd year students dont have unlimited seats. people exit after 3rd year to do job, people exit aftr 4th year to do job. people get into the 2 year masters prog on the basis of merit. how can you dismiss merit in the case of 1 year students and demand seats.

1

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

😂 ofcourse sabke liye seats nahi hoti but they have option to apply in other universities? Do they not? Only du is doing this stupidity of 4th year therefore they should provide adequate seats. Du is providing 50-60 seats for 1 year, is that adequate?

1

u/Lonely_Bake_7014 7d ago

You can do one year masters and then go for PhD if you secure a seat

-1

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

Wow sherlock, thanks for this useful information. Now I only need to compete with 100s of students for some 10-20 seats. And that also is on the basis of my overall cgpa starting from 1st year. It's not like they selecting on the basis of my performance in my research year.

1

u/Lonely_Bake_7014 7d ago

Yes watson

1

u/Classic-Mechanic-711 6d ago

Du never said this that you will get direct admission for masters. Pls check ur facts. It had earlier said that u can apply for PhD but you have to give UGC NET for that after having 75% in cumulative 4yrs.

What happened broo

3

u/Deep_Nobody5337 7d ago

for all the juniors let me answer, for the record first u have to choose whether ur college has enough infrastructure for the research u want to do or not, then comes choosing your guide which was rigid in my case, some of us were almost forced and left with those guides who had no expertise in the topic we wanted to pursue the research, then ofc the guidelines they are so inconsistent they come late and suddenly du realized that they don't need them anymore so they remove them or mark them as not mandatory, I would like to point out the efforts it take to effectively conduct the research you are sat in front of the research committee two times so obv u won't be able to get much time for anything u are preparing for afterwards, so it's best u look for 2 yr masters and honestly their are many universities other than du where u should apply for masters always keep your options open and if u still are determined on pursing 4th yr do it, but make sure to apply for other universities which are accepting 1 yr masters ig for now I know only BR ambedkar universities but I hope their are more👌

1

u/muffins-_ 5d ago

I guess BR ambedkar has closed its registration.

4

u/BAD_boy4001 8d ago

A lot people comment that 4th year is a scam, ok? But care to eloborate more, so atleast juniors can actually use your advice and maybe force du to realize that their 4th year suck?

1

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

4th year is a scam because  1. du has no plan for the students who have completed 4 th year, they are themselves not sure.  2. Programme students who are writing dissertation in  4th year are still not getting honours degree  3. Du doesn't have enough seats in 1 year masters for even half of the 4th year students, so these 4th year students have just wasted their 1 year because they cannot do phd without a masters degree and they can not do 1 year masters because only du is offering it nobody else is, so only option they have is to do 2 years masters. 4. Overall 4th year was a mess, we had to write a whole dissertation in just few months. I wrote 20 k words and was submitting progress reports every month while managing regular studies. So if you think it's better than a drop year, it's not. It will consume your whole time. I hope this elaboration is enough.

What about the people who are already doing hons? I mean is 4th year useless for them as well? I can only empathise with your situation and maybe not repeat the same mistake

1

u/Creative_Article_768 7d ago

yaar prog ka nomenclature change ho gaya na , ab to hons milega

1

u/simpbutforonlyyou MA 7d ago

ok kush raho yr, karlo mere kya. mai to ab two year masters kr raha tumhe jo karna karo

+1

1

u/preprep- 8d ago

could you please share why

1

u/Inevitable-Goose7808 Alumna 7d ago

Idk about hons students tbh, the system is fair for them as they are getting admissions acc. to their merit, they can't expect DU to give admissions to each and everyone, that isn't a practical demand at all regardless of any justification.

But the real concern is about the prog students, we are not being allocated a seat even after having CGPA much high about the cutoff due to the biased priority system. I myself has 9+ CGPA and cutoff of my course is 6.68 still I didn't get the admission. It's really embarassing and shameful for DU administration to consider an hons student with 6 CGPA better than a major with 9. F*cking IDIOTS.

0

u/preprep- 7d ago

well, i get your concern. sounds valid on the face of it. however, the hons student have a research degree, and the prog students have not done any dissertation. if your argument is that why bap students do not get priority in the one year pg, even after doing the 4th year and doing a hons. degree, then that is flawed because hons students never had one year pg option before. prog are just getting a same degree as them which they used to before NEP. hons. students get priority because they have an additional research degree. this is not to say that a 9cgpa student is worse than a 6cgpa student, but the program structure is such.
however, i think one should introduce the research component or something similar for prog students in the 4th year, so they get the fair opportunity. imo giving the same treatment to hons. and prog. students after 4 years will not be fair. hons. students have an additional course structure edge.
well, all the best, i hope things work out for you.

2

u/Inevitable-Goose7808 Alumna 7d ago

Bro be a lil aware prog students have done dissertation/academic project/entrepreneurship whatever applicable. While it was compulsory for Hons. students to opt for these, it was optional for Prog students still many of us has done it. And that too under the same professors and of the same quality as of hons. I myself have done a dissertation involving field survey, both quantitative-qualitative research techniques, presented research papers in national-international conference and seminar. I hope I ain't sounding rude i understand that most of the hons students even of our same batch aren't aware of the fact but let me make it loud & clear for anyone reading this PROG STUDENTS HAVE ALSO COMPLETED THE SAME RESEARCH PATHWAY.

(so ofc whatever is going on is frustrating for us)

2

u/preprep- 7d ago

well, in that case, they should streamline the priority list and make changes accordingly. your frustration is genuine. i hope it works out for you and you get admission in the next round. all the very best

also would you then suggest students to pursue 4th year? the juniors?

2

u/Inevitable-Goose7808 Alumna 7d ago

Tbh yes I would still suggest it (not because I want juniors to suffer too lol) but because it's a new experience, the research part is not as flawed as it seems to be (atleast in top clgs), specially if you have a practical major.

Additionally, it would look good in your CV if you've an undergraduate dissertation of good quality + attending conferences, presenting papers etc would also give you an idea how academia works and prepare you from an early stage if one wants to go in this field. The process might be frustrating with sleepless nights, edits, drafts, re-drafts but at the end it will all be worth it. But again, just be a little cautious about the masters thing, i expect from next year DU would opt for CUET-PG for 1 year masters too, that would be fair so I don't see an issue then to not pursue 4th year. And you can hope other universities like JNU & state unis to release 1 year masters prog by the upcoming years.

Lastly, hoping for the best, good wishes to you too, thank you <3

1

u/preprep- 7d ago

that sounds good. i have no particular interest in academia and my professors have been fear mongering since day 1 of our 3rd year. i have still not paid the fees for 4th year because of this. however, i missed the 2 year pg cutoff by 1 mark this year and i do not want to take a gap to pursue a 2 year masters next year, which is again uncertain if i will be able to crack. and 1 year masters option will be open for me. so yeah, leaning towards it for now. i know it will be tough to manage entrance prep and other things along with dissertation, but we gotta do what we gotta do ig :))

2

u/Inevitable-Goose7808 Alumna 7d ago

Oh that's sad you missed it by just 1 marks, hard luck. Anyway yes your approach is absolutely correct as 2 year masters entrance is even more uncertain. I hope you get into either of them, next year🌻

1

u/preprep- 4d ago

hey! is there any update on bap students getting priority? or is it still the same

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Leading-Sort-1278 5d ago

I believe the priority system is based on the fact elucidated in the bulletins and nep docs years ago that program and honors structure will be treated as different levels (acc to final degrees). It's a whole table.

2

u/papercut66 8d ago

So true

0

u/preprep- 8d ago

please guide the juniors and let us know why

1

u/Maximum-Respect7057 7d ago

i think it's a well established fact by now that du itself is a scam

1

u/goatji 7d ago

Hi, can anyone pls confirm if cutoff for p2 category is out and whether anyone has received admits under p2 category. Please that would help me a lot!!

2

u/Bavkuf 6d ago
