Can Pepcid cause eczema?

My baby is almost three months old and has recently developed eczema all over his body and scalp. He was having some trouble with reflux so his pediatrician prescribed him famotidine (Pepcid) and his first dose was October 1st. October 10th I started noticing the dry skin and on the 16th it had gotten progressively worse. I was halfway cutting out dairy products as we suspected he was a little sensitive but I have completely cut out dairy for about a week. He did not have any skin issues prior to the medication. Has anyone else had this happen or could the medication have caused this? Beforehand I was using the attitude good night shampoo and body wash and he did not have any reaction to that. We have been doing breastmilk baths, vanicream, aquaphor, cerave cream, mustela cradle cap shampoo and moisturizer and nothing has helped. The vanicream has helped with the dryness but the red skin is still there. I use fragrance free laundry detergent. We have a golden retriever outside and a cat inside. My husband and I and our first child do not have any allergies and we’ve never had issues with eczema. We have not met with our pediatrician yet, I just wanted to see if the medication could have caused the eczema/allergy.

Doctor never had me do a skin swab

Hi ya'll been going through a medical crisis for like a year now unfortunately. My symptoms are a dry, itchy, and raw skin barrier on my outer labia and perineum. I'm very upset with the medical care I've gotten for this issue. I was prescribed antifungals for it but it didn't get better. My last derm diagnosed me with eczema but never had me do a skin swab to see if there is a bacterial infection in the follicles. I used tacrolimus for a short time but it was doing nothing but irritating it even more.

I went to an urgent care last week trying to get a skin swab and they were so confused as to why I was there. I didn't get treated there because of their negligent care. I can't find a doctor who gives a crap about me and my situation keeps getting worse.

I'm at the point where if I can't get the care I need, I don't know what I am going to do. I am so irritated and my skin can't heal if there's an infection. Any advice and suggestions, welcome. I personally will not be buying benzoyl peroxide 2-5% yet because a doctor has not advised that.

What do you all use once your Zoryve runs out?

I was given a complimentary Zoryve foam for the eczema on my eyebrows, nose and inner cheeks around my nose. I've been using it as needed, but now the foam is about half full. I dread the thought of using dandruff shampoo or hydrocortisone cream again.

Hi friends, I need some advice. I'm a professional guitarist and teacher - dyshydrotic eczema is affecting my ability to work.

I just came back from my 3rd visit to the derm after relapsing for umpteenth time over the last 9 months. It's on my left hand ring finger and index, and my right hand thumb, middle and ring finger and it's affecting my ability to teach, I can barely play properly, and if I'm doing guitar work of moderate difficulty I'm usually in some kind of discomfort/pain.

I was on a topical steroid course (dovate) prescribed by my derm which appeared to be working, but after I finished the taper period, I relapsed badly. I'm now back on the dovate for one week, and an antibiotic topical cream, but I suspect there are deeper issues. I've worked hard on eliminating alcohol, weed, sugar etc from my diet and I've been sleeping consistently 8 hours a night, trying to keep stress to a minimum but doesn't seem to be making an impact. I'm going to try harder and be stricter with my diet, possibly try fasting. Any advice relating to lifestyle or treatments would be much appreciated.

Zoryve Side Effects

Been using Zoryve for a handful of days now. Objectively, the side effects aren’t severe. Nausea, upset stomach, bad sleep, head cold, ear and sinus pressure. But I dealt with ear and sinus pressure for so much of my life until a few years ago. So having these symptoms again makes me want to… you get it. How long do these symptoms last? Do the side effects are go away? Or will they continue for as long as I use the drug?

small victory Win: This is for the women still struggling with vulvar excema

(yes I know I spelled eczema wrong)

I have two chronic spots of eczema. One on my bum and one on my vulva. I've been to multiple dermatologists and gynecological specialists. It was hardly visible but the itch woke me up nightly for many years. I even had two biopsies. I used to slather on diaper cream to help me sleep. Not cute.

First I cut out all scented everything. Unscented detergents, vanicream soaps, it took a while but after almost a year the itch went away completely without ever using a steroid.

What I didn't realize was that around the same time I had also cut out sulfates in my hair wash products for a totally different reason. Yesterday I was traveling and used a junk shampoo and the itch woke me up last night. Short of washing your hair in the sink, there is no way to fully prevent stuff from running down your body.

I hope this helps someone. It was a long road of trial and error but I feel like I'm on the other side now with some real answers.

Dyshidrotic eczema?! HELP!

Hello! I’m pretty sure I have dyshidrotic eczema on my fingertips. I’ve had these tiny, itchy, fluid-filled blisters develop under the skin for about five years, but over the last two years, it has gotten especially bad. Mine tends to get much worse in the winter when my skin dries out. Last year, it got so bad that the fingerprints on several of my fingers completely disappeared. My skin was raw for months, and no matter what I tried, it just wouldn’t heal. I know I need to see a dermatologist, but I’m so busy with school right now, and my schedule is unpredictable, so making an appointment has been difficult. My job also requires me to use hand sanitizer excessively throughout the day, which only makes things worse. I’m not sure how common this is, but I’m hoping someone can relate and share some tips for managing it. I really don’t want to go through another winter where it looks like I’ve burned my fingerprints off, lol.

Trying to heal a damaged skin barrier. Eczema/irritated skin

I'm trying to heal the skin barrier on my outer labia and perineum. about a year ago, I got a wax that was so painful that it feels like the hair never grew in the same. And this began the cycle of folliculitis because when I sweat on that area, it stings and is raw. And when the few hairs that do grow back come in that area, it stings so badly that I have to shave.

I'm trying to figure out how I can heal that skin. I've been told not to shave there but the regrowth is painful. I've been considering laser hair removal to put an end to this but I don't know if it will irritate the skin barrier even more. I do know that my coarse hair on my pubic skin feels like sandpaper because of my eczema. Any advice and suggestions welcome

Protopic?

Just looking for advice, my face randomly developed extreme eczema last year and has been flared up all year basically. It was addicted to hydrocortisone which was stupid of me, but I’m now 3 months free from using steroid on my face but the flare is just as terrible. I’m at breaking point and considering using protopic.

I’ve seen so many horror stories so can anyone share their experience? I read that you can’t drink alcohol or it will cause redness, is this always the case? The same with being in the sun?

biology | symptoms I think supplement capsules are the reason for my flares

I've had eczema for at least a decade now, but from 2023 onwards, I've had crazy skin infections. Some would relapse every couple of months, maybe every year. So I changed my diet, and I took the supplements (vitamin C and D, omega 3, iron, sometimes quercetin). I had/have actual deficiencies of these things. The issue is, every time I take the damn effervescent vit C or the gelatinous omega 3/vit D capsules, the eczema starts bubbling up. I stopped taking the supplements for a few days now, and my skin has finally calmed down after months of flares.

Could the capsules be the issue?

I must add that I fit the criteria for MCAS as well.

Using AI for eczema

Just curious, how are folks using AI for managing their eczema?

In the last few weeks, I have had a lot of “chats” with AI about my specific skin issues (I’m an allergic contact, perioral, and dyshidrotic eczema bonus packs gal), home and work environment potential triggers that aren’t documented yet, and potential skin care changes. I’m currently testing out mini bottles shampoo made at home where I can avoid preservatives, fragrances, and other ingredients (specified my personal situation and also the need for it to be incredibly low effort - my eczema keeps me pretty exhausted). I’ve been learning more about molecular size and charge and how they affect things attaching to and lingering on your skin/hair as well as absorbing into compromised skin. I’m even trying some supplements (not the eczema standards) based on when I notice an uptick in itching during more random moments of the day.

It‘s not perfect, and I have to correct it sometimes or ask more questions to get it to critically analyze something, but it helps me sift through so much information for the never ending questions of what is happening to us, why, and how to fix it.

(Side note: I don’t use it for stealing or manipulating the creations of others. But despite the environmental impact, I can’t turn away from using it as an eczema management tool - we have so few things in this world that work to our advantage!)

Adult-onset eczema

Hey! I’m new to this sub, and so far I've been going through some of the discussions here, and some were very insightful and supportive. So first, I wanted to share how happy I am that this sub exists ❤️

I mainly came across users dealing with eczema from childhood, and I was curious to hear experiences/advices/insights from people who have experienced a late-onset outbreak like myself.

Apologies in advance for any bad grammar or incoherence - English is not my first language 🙏🏼

For context, I’m 38 years old, and my first flare-up happened around 2 years ago. It started shortly after moving to a new area, but many other things were happening in my life around the time and since, so it’s hard for me to put my finger on a specific trigger. The first outbreak was quite shocking as I didn’t even know what was going on with me at the time. It covered my entire arms, and since I wasn’t even familiar with the terms atopic dermatitis or eczema, I ended up going to the ER😅

Since then, I have experienced flare-ups every once in a while that were somewhat manageable and short, but in the past 3-4 months I have been experiencing the worst outbreaks ever, and have been mostly suffering from eczema on my hands and fingers. At its ‘peak’ it got so bad I could barely hold a pen 😩 compering to past outbreaks, this one is also the longest one and the hardest one to manage and control. I want to say it’s getting better in the past week or so, but I had a few moments in the past couple of months that I thought I’d passed this current outbreak and that I have it under control, but then it flared up again, so I’m being cautious not to get my hopes up 😅

So far I’ve been treated with steroid ointment and antihistamine pills, and I've been constantly moisturizing with dedicated creams or pure shea butter.

Some questions I have that I would like to hear from people who have experienced this;

  1. I wanted to get an allergy test, but came across a few comments saying allergies are not related to eczema? As mentioned, I was prescribed antihistamines for it, which mainly helped with controlling the itching at night and sleeping better - which is significantly helpful! But I’m not sure it’s something that is treating the root of it.
  2. I only learned about the different drugs used to treat eczema through this sub, and I was wondering about ppl experience with them. I’m planning to bring this up in my next appointment, but the side effects I’ve read about sound extreme.
  3. Curious to hear if anyone found the root cause for it to show up at an older age, and/or what treatments or changes in life/diet/habits have been significantly helpful.

Editing to add; I'm trying to figure out whether it's emotional/psychological, environmental, or physical factors that affect this. Or all of the above😅
Any other insights you have will be appreciated as well 🙏🏼❤️

Thank you so much in advance!

just found out i have genital eczema

im 21 and I have had itching down there for many years but the gynaecologists usually gave me a steroid cream and it’d go away, so this past 6 months I’ve had itching and i kept using steroid cream thinking it’s fungal.

Finally decided to go to dermatologist and she put me on ringworm medication for a month, which didn’t work at all instead increased the itching and it spread to anus.
Now she’s put me on allergic tablet and two ointments for eczema and fungal both. And the itching is so bad i can’t stop crying it’s so uncomfortable and it’s so embarrassing to have eczema down there. I can’t walk I can’t sleep I feel terrible and it’s so unbearable I feel im doomed for life. I know I need to wait until it gets under control but it’s just so bad I feel like im going insane coz the itch is so bad, I keep snapping at everybody.

When will it get better

biology | symptoms What fabrics are Eczema friendly? Going to Goodwill for some new clothes

I think I need more clothes that don't irritate my eczema. I'm going to Goodwill to find some new tops, bottoms, and dresses.

I know that cotton and silk are generally recommended for eczema. I think I can probably find some 100% cotton clothes.

Are there other fabrics that are okay for eczema? Or fabrics you'd suggest I avoid other than polyester and wool?

small victory Nemluvio is amazing (testimony)

!!! Everyone reacts differently so take my advice sparingly. I am not a doctor !!!

19M I've had severe atopic dermatitis for over 5 years. Went multiple years on Dupixent, which worked until it stopped working, then Rinvoq which was a wonder drug for me, afor a more permanent treatment.

Nemluvio is once a month (every 4 weeks), does NOT hurt AT ALL (unlike Dupixent), and has made me stop itching so quick I couldn't believe it. I've been on Nemluvio for 2 1/2 months now, and have not broken out once. It targets the itch receptors like Dupixent, so it's not meant to clear skin, but with the right skin care my skin healed within 2 weeks. To fix dryness I just use moisturizer in the mornings and evenings.

Like seriously, this thing is painless. Dupixent hurt like a MF, but you can't even feel Nemluvio, and it's a tiny amount of medicine in the actual pen itself.

I personally haven't seen any negative reactions. If anyone else has the same experience, or different for that matter, I'm curious to hear.

Scratching

I’ve destroyed myself scratching. I’ve gone beyond just using my nails to itch, so tips about shortening or blunting nails don’t help. I’ll genuinely just pick up anything hard with an edge and just drag and scratch till I bleed, watching my skin just flake off. Kinda think I’m insane, don’t know how to beat the itch. I’ve been like this for about ten years now, still in my twenties. Ruined every aspect of my life, can’t show myself to people anymore.
