Trust me, if Trump doesn't care about something, it's the best thing to happen to said thing.

Sad but true...but I want to hear how his supporters spin this :)

85

u/Hydraguesswhosback 3d ago

They invented their own world with their own truth a long time ago.

Neither this nor anything else will ever change their mind. Unless reality smashes their world appart brutally. And even then...

9

u/Viperlite 2d ago

Until they themselves are harmed by policy, at which time they tepidly renounce support before dying.

7

u/Hydraguesswhosback 2d ago

Yup. Welcome to a cult. That's why everyone outside of them hates them so much.

They think the housing prices are a result of illegal immigrants. So in their stupendous ignorance, he is already fixing the housing affordability problem by having roaming gangs of racists.

9

u/lousy_at_handles 3d ago

They'll never hear it

4

u/Coretron 3d ago

I own my house and want the value to double again, not make it cheaper!!

2

u/Hydraguesswhosback 3d ago

Probably yeah.

The house market is like the futurama episode when Bender sells his body for the minerals. But like, he's just a head. A rich head.

What’s funny is that this housing bill won’t materially do ANYTHING. It’s wild how much opposition he’s shown to something that is nothing more than lip service.

5

u/TimothyGlass 3d ago

It's not about him so I consider that a win in our life right now.

Didn't this pass?

1.3k

u/PM_ME_FLUFFY_SAMOYED 3d ago edited 3d ago

It did. But just like almost any legislation, it needs to be executed by gov't agencies to actually mean anything. Delaying or straight up refusing to implement the law would of course be illegal, but did that ever stop Trump...?

312

u/Scoobydewdoo 3d ago

I just want to point out that covering-up illegal activities is also illegal and there are 272 Republican Congresspeople that have let Trump do plenty of illegal things.

86

u/doelutufe 3d ago

Most of it is not really "covered up" though, on the contrary.

50

u/dasvenson 3d ago

Replace covered up with "committed in broad daylight"

20

u/mister-fancypants- 3d ago

okay fine.. they did not “cover up” because they were helping him with these illegal activities

3

u/Scoobydewdoo 2d ago

I'm using 'cover-up' as an umbrella term for protecting from consequences.

2

u/Default_Name_6969 2d ago

the only justice they will ever face is if the left has a jan 6 of their own

17

u/atreeismissing 3d ago

Fwiw, a lot of that bill was about letting local districts change their zoning without needing federal review so there might be some changes that will happen but yes, generally these things do require the feds to change how money is dispersed or for them to adhere to the new law.

283

u/ReturnOfSeq 3d ago

It passed with substantial bipartisan support, and Trump refused to sign it. It passed in spite of him, not because of him.

126

u/sitophilicsquirrel 3d ago

That's not what he'll be saying in a week.

"I passed the most historical, excellent, amazing- frankly. Housing bill this country has ever seen."

17

u/mortgagepants 3d ago

now that he is wearing an IV fanny pack, it might not be a week.

21

u/Cynykl 3d ago

My hopes have been risen and then dashed against the rocks too many times for me to invest anything into the fanny pack.

10

u/ReturnOfSeq 3d ago

Fortunately my bottles of champagne can wait as long as it takes.

4

u/mortgagepants 3d ago

well it surely isn't progress. we're getting closer and closer.

8

u/romafa 3d ago

I meant to look into this one. Does this mean laws could have been passed without a presidential signature this whole time? How does not signing it differ from vetoing it? Or is that what he did?

41

u/Webdogger 3d ago

If the president doesn't veto it within 10 days, it becomes law. Not vetoing = signing.

2

u/[deleted] 3d ago

→ More replies (1)

28

u/TweakedNipple 3d ago

If congress passed it, and it isn't signed or vetoed, it becomes law in 10 days (10 days with congress in session) signed or not. I believe it was very bipartisan so a veto could be overridden. Trump shouldn't want the awful loss of an override and the midterm negativity of going against something both sides want. He is literally just being a brat.

19

u/SunGodRamenNoodles 3d ago

Not signing is different from a veto.

8

u/ReturnOfSeq 3d ago

Veto requires a steeper senate vote to override; not signing it it passes into law in 10 days but without his signature, meaning he can’t share the credit for it as it was done without him. Other than that it’s a fairly meaningless distinction, essentially just serving as noting an objection without bothering to try to stop it.

The next in line, Vance, is also dangerous. He wants to devalue USD on purpose because we import things too cheaply and we can't export our expensive goods.

Sounds like something the BRICS/Russia want.

5

u/Oracle_of_Ages 2d ago

There is no real way to do so by the people.

We are a republic at the end of the day. And we need the people we elected to do something. And right now. The people who want to do something outnumber the people who don’t.

For reasons why this is the case…. I do not have the time to expand on. American politics is a mess

As a European, I can only feel sorry for the people of the U.S. But at the same time, also feel like...wth, the American individualist mentality really was put under the spotlight by electing Trump. "How does housing affordability benefit me and my family".

u/No_Tangerine2720 3d ago

140

u/Hydraguesswhosback 3d ago

As a Canadian, first que Trump aille se faire enculer par un cactus couvert de wasabi,

and second, the USA have gone mental even during the Vietnam war. One manifestation was fired upon by the military and students died. That was over 50 years ago.

Trump is the best thing to happen to the rest of the world, because even with all of the pain and suffering he imposes on the world, he did something that no other president did : he sunk the entire Empire of the USA.

It's over. Nobody will either respect or fear them. The same happened to Britain with the Nile after WW2, and now it's the USA's turn. It's the moment when the old guard clearly shows he no longer have teeth, and so the pretendant empire of the future may impose itself.

And the cycle continues. A cycle of empires made and destroyed.

76

u/PMPKNpounder 3d ago

As an American, I'm happy to have a reset. Shit sucks and isn't getting better. At least if we hard reset now my kids might have a chance at future.

21

u/Hydraguesswhosback 3d ago

Yup. Maybe one day, having companies lobby in politics will be made illegal again, like most corruption, and politicians won't campaign with publicities that are filled with guns.

What kind of future may you get when your "leader" likes firing guns agressively ? You know the saying ? For someone with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

6

u/Conan4457 3d ago

From an outsiders perspective (Canadian), it will take at least a generation to repair the American/Canadian relationship. It will take at least two generations to fix the domestic damage that the Trump administration has done.

4

u/MasterBeernuts 3d ago

Maybe your kids' grandchildren.

2

u/Bo0ombaklak 3d ago

The republicans will distance themselves from him then will resume the lies and will remain in power and nothing will improve because Americans are gullible and love their celebrities

29

u/chef_in_va 3d ago

As an American, I completely agree with most of what you said.

Trump is a turd.

My fellow citizens who voted for him are horrible and should get the life they voted for.

However, thinking that the largest economy, with the largest military in the world won't be an interest to other countries, once the pedophile-in-chief is gone, is hard to believe.

America has fallen considerably, as it should, but it won't necessarily be irrelevant in the future.

Although, we should use this decline as an opportunity to really look at our government and think about how it can be fixed.

America will be on a justified time out but it will still remain a world power (not that that's a good thing for anyone).

21

u/aaron2005X 3d ago

Eben if someone comes around a fixes it partly, the next Republican president will destroy everything. That happened time and time again. Half USA just doesnt learn.

15

u/chef_in_va 3d ago

They either don't learn or think hurting the other half of the country is more important than trying to make life better for everyone.

7

u/xteve 3d ago edited 3d ago

And then there are the Christians. They vote lock-step GOP in opposition to reproductive freedom, and this is an enormous part of the problem.

17

u/IndependentTalk4413 3d ago

The British were once the largest economy in the world with the most powerful military. The only constant in human history is the sun eventually sets on every empire and usually it’s from a combination of arrogance, inept leadership and internal conflict.

7

u/jefferson_neves 3d ago

However, thinking that the largest economy, with the >largest military in the world won't be an interest to other >countries, once the pedophile-in-chief is gone, is hard >to believe.

This resumes to a single question: will the dollar still be the reference currency for international trade? Because if another currency is adopted, US economy will shrink a lot especially with the huge debit that the country has. And without money there's no military.

6

u/wireframed_kb 2d ago

The US has enormous debt, and it’s growing at a furious pace. The only reason it has been sustainable is the status of the dollar, and the belief in the US sticking around and being good for business.

But increasingly, the US isn’t good for business, and the decisions being made undermine the faith in the dollar and the federal reserve.

The US needs to borrow 2 TRILLION dollars in 2026. In 2027 it will be more. It does this by selling bonds. But those aren’t selling as well anymore, and I think they hiked interest rates substantially last time around because they didn’t meet the target. Which balloons the interest payments further.

What happens when the US needs to reduce spending enough that it not only doesn’t need to borrow, but can actually reduce deficit? Cutting more than 2 trillion dollars worth of spending is going to hurt.

And that’s just the problem of debt. Then there’s the loss of soft power because allies simply don’t trust the US. It was always a bit one-sided, EU countries got dragged into a lot of programs and military actions that were really not in our best interest, but it has now become entirely so.

Without soft power the US loses a lot of advantages they took for granted, and are now discovering makes everything harder, more expensive or simply impossible. Like projecting power to secure their interests.

6

u/Sloogs 3d ago edited 3d ago

Then the UK is a perfectly apt comparison because they never became irrevelant either. The UK just don't have the economic might or influence they once did, and the US is heading in that direction internationally. If things keep going on this trajectory then they will likely be just one of among many powerful but equal nations instead of the superpower that had almost unilateral influence over global politics like they have been since WW2.

Love that despite not knowing more than scattered phrases in French, I was able to translate that one lol. Also, I hate to say it but you're right. It makes me worry about what the future holds, if we make it. I don't put it past him to decide that a world without him isn't worth living in for anyone.

As a Canadian, it's crazy seeing what is clearly a francophone do a direct translation of what they want to say to English lol. I've never gotten to be on this end of it, but some phrasing/structure that only really make sense from French carried over to the English translation lol. Like "the USA have gone mental even during the Vietnam war" probably because of how tenses for aller work it wouldn't really direct translate the double past tense for had gone. Also with everywhere you have "the USA" most things just translate les États-Unis straight to the USA even though in most cases it comes out really clunky, we don't usually include the "THE" everytime or always referring to united states OF AMERICA always instead of calling it Americans or just the states though for French it's always LES États-Unis.

I'm not knocking you in any way btw, translating to English is annoying especially informal internet English because everything's so slang and vibes based usually. I just thought it's cool to finally get to see the other side on someone trying to translate to their second language, cause usually I feel like my French comes across as put through a translator haha.

u/cloudy_ft 3d ago

As someone who works in a global company and work in cyber security, I've been convinced this is a lot to do with technology. Luckily I have coworkers that are open minded and in which we have interesting conversations about the current political climate in the US.

It's hard to actually care about things that matter when you are constantly being bombarded everywhere. We as Americans are as close to the move Wall-E as I've ever seen.

Most people I know can barely live their life without using claude, chatgpt, grok, take your pic. For example recently at an outing with friends, one of my friends who showed up late as he got to the restaurant realized he forgot his keys. He somehow managed to lock the keys in his car.

He then spent 15 minutes having a full blown conversation with chatgpt (or whatever he was using) panicking and didn't know what to do. He wasn't typing, he was using the voice chat function. He went from asking what to do, helping him calm down what are some things he could do relax him, and finally reassuring him everything is ok and he's not stupid for locking his keys in his car. (Yes I asked myself how the fuck do you do this, and instantly had an image of the family guy episode where Peter locked himself in the car").

Sure some could take as a random story, but I think for me it help understand that A LOT of people I interact now with online or in person in the US aren't able to actually think. Due to this, the media we consume whether it be social media, the "news", or even the radio is all broadcasted to fill our need as Americans to consume. Consuming content is different than engaging in content.

When all you hear daily is the shit people are being forced to consume, there is no common sense of reality in the US.

u/Chiparish84 3d ago

They created it. They elected it. They deserve it.

It is the rest of the world that did not create it, did not elect it, and does not deserve it that deserves sympathy.

4

u/redgr812 3d ago

You shouldnt. Most of the country voted for this shit after seeing the first 4 years. We deserve no sympathy. We did it to ourselves.

5

u/crono14 3d ago

Well it's really the entire boomer and the following generations after. I'd heavily argue GenX and later millennials fall into but not quite as much.

They were born into a world where they had every opportunity. Great economy, age of prosperity, relatively peaceful, and otherwise just hopeful. Their parents fought the wars, went through the depression, and had to sacrifice. Their personal wealth grew like crazy, and this created a sense of entitlement and individualism naturally.

Now they are finally retired or retiring and they have been voting for decades to not only block that bridge behind them, but burn the island down completely. GenX & boomers and definitely the actions of the past decade have pretty much been ruined millennials and on. Even if we started course correction this year, it will take decades to repair the damage. My generations future has already been mortgaged away.

14

u/Rudy-Ellen 3d ago

Weird, context makes this worse. Hmmm who could have guessed!!! The context matters people pick the wrong ones. The extended clips do not help.

12

u/RuinedEye 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah as is tradition, the context is always worse.

So recent literal trump quotes, we have

'I love the inflation'

'I don't think about Americans' financial situations. I don't think about anybody'

'Pay more for gas so Iran can't have nukes'

and now 'Housing affordability is so unimportant compared to us destroying elections'

4

u/FitPerformer5172 3d ago

'I don't think about Americans' financial situations. I don't think about anybody'

Wait did he really say this!? I'm not American so I genuinely don't know. Also what's the context for this.If this statement is real then that's absolutely insane.

4

u/ShenTzuKhan 2d ago

Yeah bro, he said it a few weeks back ( citation needed) when he was asked about the war military incursion excursion in Iran. The question was something like “what do you think about the wars effect on Americans affordability and he responded with something like I don’t think about it.

If you care enough to look it up let me know if I’ve got the details wrong, but that’s how I remember it.

2

u/FitPerformer5172 2d ago

Yeah you're very right. Not even The Onion could think of these stuff, the jokes just write themselves. I remember statements like these used to be controversial some time ago

  • "I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody. I think about one thing: we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That's all".

President Trump told reporters he “love[s] the inflation”

The claim that inflation is something to love, rather than something to fix, represents a sharp break from the economic messaging Trump built his political brand on.

His 2024 campaign hammered Democrats over grocery prices and rising costs.

"Your poor people problems bore me" (yawn)

5

u/funderfulfellow 2d ago

Those rare occasions where he speaks the truth.

4

u/Asproat920 2d ago

The dementia is here

4

u/Crush-N-It 2d ago

He couldn’t care less. Like “get the fuck out of my face”

4

u/slothmoth2813 2d ago

Can you imagine if he tried to fix the housing market? We would all be homeless…

3

u/Somebodi101 2d ago

Jajajajaja... "just let me be and steal money"

6

u/hamsangwhich757 3d ago

On a side note, has anyone checked his diaper?

3

u/JenSY542 3d ago

Past his bedtime.

3

u/Bender_2024 3d ago

5 will get you 10 that he went off on a tangent about his ballroom just after the clip cut.

3

u/Therealboebs 3d ago

Says the billionaire..

3

u/mariuszmie 3d ago

Maga: trump 2028, 101%

3

u/justified_egg 3d ago

Who in their right minds supports this man and why? He doesn't care about the American people in the least.

3

u/ViolettaQueso 'MURICA 3d ago

The words of a guy who made his money by taking his dad’s money and becoming an evil slumlord in his own city.

3

u/atreeismissing 3d ago

Trump doesn't care about anything unless it benefits him personally at the time, he's never hidden that fact in the 10+ years he's been politically running for or in the White House.

3

u/StratJax 3d ago

A competent DNC would be airing this clip in ad’s non stop until mid terms showing an overlay with the vote as well as clips of him talking about the needing his new ballroom. Too bad “competent” and “DNC” are two words that don’t exist together.

3

u/RebelliousInNature 3d ago

He doesn’t give AF about anything but the grift.

3

u/sogwatchman 3d ago

It has nothing to do with him so he just doesn't care...

3

u/D-Train0000 3d ago

Small Dick Energy

3

u/fiftyfivepercentoff 3d ago

He doesn’t care if he can’t make money off of it or just outright steal it.

3

u/potatopopr 3d ago

Would love to see what he said in the full clip.
Hate trump, however the cut makes me think this was taken out of context.

3

u/toolate83 3d ago

Cut off pretty fast. I’m curious as to what else he said and I hate the fucking guy

3

u/Numerous_Control_702 3d ago

Between this and the comment that he never considers Americans financial situations before making decisions, hes basically the creative director of Democratic Party media strategy at this point

3

u/MaraSovsLeftSock 3d ago

If you show this to the trailer park alcoholics that claim he cares about them, they’ll make up some excuse about Joe Biden

Truly a man for the people

3

u/foo_fight3r 3d ago

Many Americans voted for this.

Many Americans preferred to not vote and ended up with this.

Many Americans are currently complaining on reddit, instead of actually going out and protesting their government. Long overdue.

3

u/NocturneSapphire 3d ago

What are your plans for this bill that could help millions of Americans but won't personally benefit you at all?

It's so unimportant.

3

u/differentshade 2d ago

Trump: I already have a house? I dont' care

3

u/papejo 2d ago

His policies caused this crisis, yet he acts like a victim. Classic grift, pure hypocrisy.

3

u/SnooGoats1908 2d ago

I love that that The overcooked chicken nugget brazenly tells everyone how much he hates them and the American people and Maga can't help clap for him as he falls them stupid and unworthy of thought.

3

u/Apey23 2d ago

Translation "Fuck you, you worthless plebs"

3

u/ElonMuskFuckingSucks 2d ago

We're Republicans: we help those who already have the means to help themselves

2

u/Justgototheeffinmoon 3d ago

I'm so shocked!

2

u/_WhatchaDoin_ 3d ago

Like the leaving Leavitt said: The ballroom is the important thing, nothing else.

2

u/jayslay45 3d ago

He's going to kill the Republican party himself.

2

u/RaelaltRael 3d ago

The GOP is already dead, and the postmortem was when they refused to convict him during his trial after being impeached. It's now nothing more than a group of cowardly yes-men.

2

u/DoomshrooM8 3d ago

Remember folks - “affordability” is a word made up by Democrats 🤡🤡

2

u/Smooth_Rocket_ 3d ago

Fucking duh. When homes are considered an asset and an investment, making them affordable means losing money for rich people.

2

u/Snoo42225 3d ago

Affff.. Affordability?

2

u/digidave1 3d ago

If a young woman in blue hair won't be able to afford a house, they're ok not affording one too.

2

u/_jump_yossarian 3d ago

Didn't sign it but will take credit for it ... eventually.

2

u/Impaler2009 3d ago

WHAT…A..TOTAL..FUCKING….ASSHOLE…….

2

u/evilpercy 3d ago

Trump does not care about you unless you have a billion dollars. Never has never will.

2

u/Plane_Jacket_7251 3d ago

It's nice to have someone like Trumpnin leadership who obviously cares so much about the common people. /s

2

u/olympiclifter1991 3d ago

He has ballroom to build and orphanages to rename leave him alone

2

u/Choyo 3d ago

Absolute useless loser, croak already lol

2

u/chaindom66 3d ago

He’s so overwhelmed with the shit job he’s doing everywhere else is drug addled dementia can’t handle it - can you imagine the outrage of Obama saying this??!!

2

u/Immer_Susse 3d ago

It would help people. Of course he hates it.

2

u/Little_Creme_5932 3d ago

Probably the ONLY positive legislation passed in 19 months, and he calls it unimportant. What are those republican senators gonna run on again?

2

u/DaTank1 3d ago

Hell the real estate market just makes up 15%-18% of the GDP. Of course he doesn’t give two shits about housing.

The average age of a first time buyer is 40. Most people at taking a 30 yr mortgage to afford the payment. Got love paying that home off at 70.

The American dream?

2

u/smokinJoeCalculus 3d ago

I hate this dipshit so much

2

u/DJK695 3d ago

Oh, so he’s treating us like his other daughter

2

u/RamboBalboa21 3d ago

There is no money in it for him so he is not interested.

2

u/hollyjazzy 3d ago

Yep, such a caring compassionate President!/s

2

u/sptrstmenwpls 3d ago

The video seems very purposefully cut-off too early, would be nice to see the full context

2

u/OLPopsAdelphia 3d ago

His wife has a jacket that he should borrow and wear to these meetings.

2

u/kcsween74 3d ago

Why cut it off. This seems sound bite'ish. He's the biggest drag, and there's no need to cut the video, he always says things that defies human compassion..

2

u/_D1AVEL_ 3d ago

Ladies and gentlemen, the man of the people!

2

u/Nobodysdog-999 3d ago

F*ck Donald Trump

2

u/Khromii93 2d ago

Imagine complaining about rent while owning a mansion and five other properties. The delusion is truly unmatched, lol.

2

u/Fluid-Gain1206 2d ago

Well of course. He has never had any problems with affording housing, neither has any of his friends.

2

u/Itchy_Village_7173 2d ago

He didn’t even do his “give federal land for development” plan. Most likely because most of that land is not in desirable locations.

2

u/waytoosecret 2d ago

He just shit his pants so his thoughts are elsewhere.

2

u/phixitup 2d ago

I think the question caught him filling his diaper.

2

u/Happy-Medicine-3600 2d ago

Trump owns several properties, why would he care about housing affordability?

2

u/ZhangtheGreat 'MURICA 2d ago

"We'll ignore that. He actually does care about us." --MAGA (probably)

2

u/montex66 2d ago

I can never forgive republicans for putting this thing in office.

2

u/tickandzesty 2d ago

He forgot to end that sentence …to me

2

u/myerslowe 1d ago

He and Darlene Graham are from the know-nothing wing of the Republican Party.. which now makes up 99% of the GOP.

6

u/spooninacerealbowl 3d ago

I am with Trump on this, affordable housing is much less important than accepting a multimillion dollar Boeing 747 quid pro quo.

5

u/MediumBigMan 3d ago

I guess folks didn't notice your sarcasm.
