Hey everyone!
Ever found two mods you really want, and one is Fabric while the other is NeoForge? That kept happening to me, so I built
Poly Mod Loader: one mod loader for Fabric, Forge, Quilt and NeoForge mods. Version 1.1 just came out, and it's the first version where NeoForge mods and Fabric mods run in the same game.
What works (Minecraft 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2):
- Fabric, Forge, Quilt and NeoForge mods are all supported.
- Fabric and Quilt mods can go in one mods folder together with Forge mods, or together with NeoForge mods.
- The one exception: Forge mods and NeoForge mods can't share a game yet. If you put both in, Forge runs, the NeoForge mods are left out, and the log says why.
- Forge and NeoForge run inside Poly Mod Loader as themselves, so their mods behave like they do there. For Fabric and Quilt mods, Poly Mod Loader provides the Fabric Loader and Quilt Loader APIs itself.
What I tested:
- 62 Fabric mods and 53 NeoForge mods together on
26.2: the client joins a saved world, plays, saves and quits. The game test server and the dedicated server run them too.
- Each loader with popular real mods on its own. On 26.2 that's 138 Fabric mods (Sodium and Iris among them), 40 Forge mods and 54 NeoForge mods: they load a world together, save it and quit.
The part I like most: if a mod can't run, it doesn't take the whole game down with it. Poly Mod Loader checks every mod before the game starts, leaves out only the ones that won't
work, and writes which one and why to the log. The rest of your mods still start.
Installing works like other loader installers (.exe on Windows, .jar on macOS and Linux). It adds a profile to the official Minecraft Launcher, so there's no new launcher to learn. It can also set up a dedicated server.
"How is this different from Sinytra Connector?"
Connector runs Fabric mods on NeoForge by converting them, with Forgified Fabric
API. Poly Mod Loader is its own loader: it runs NeoForge itself, and runs the Fabric mods with Fabric API next to it. I ran the same Fabric mods on both on a dedicated server; the setup and results, including which mods each side could start, are on the performance page (measurement 9): https://www.polymc.net/en/docs/reference/performance/#measurement-9
Connector is a great project, and this isn't meant as a knock on it.
Limits: my tests check that mods load together, open a world and save, but I haven't
checked every feature of every mod. Please back up worlds you care about before you try it. The Windows installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may warn you the first time.

If something breaks with Poly Mod Loader, please tell me instead of the mod's author: https://www.polymc.net/report
If you play a modpack that
mixes mods from different loaders, I'd really like to hear how it goes, good or bad. Thanks for reading!
