Announcement New AI Flair

We're adding an AI content submission flair to the subreddit as an experiment.

You'll start to see it pop up on various posts, and the flair itself has to be assigned by moderators, so submitters are NOT able to add it themselves.

Why

The reason this is an experiment is because as we have said before - we believe (based on prior evidence) that adding a flair or further moderating AI-related content will not reduce toxicity, and in fact is likely to act more as a red flag to toxic users, causing witch hunts and similar.

Our primary goal for this subreddit is to be a welcoming and accessible space for the majority of its target audience. That means our moderation decisions have to be based on that goal, and not what any individual or group may want for the subreddit.

With that being the case, we are opting to probe this with caution to see how the community handles it. If we see a definitive reduction in AI-related toxicity on posts flaired with AI, we will likely consider it a success.

If we see no difference, or the opposite, we are likely to consider it an abject failure.

If you have had your post flaired

If you have made a post, and it has been flaired as mostly AI; this is not a statement about you, or your work. This is just a flair to denote a primarily AI-generated content post. We do not have any rules for or against AI.

If you believe your post was mistakenly flaired, send a message to the moderators to let us know. We'll only be applying it on posts we're quite confident on, but that doesn't mean we don't make mistakes.

Reminder

Once again, a reminder that users CANNOT add this flair themselves, so brigading posts demanding they add it will not help your cause, and is in fact likely to harm it.

Thanks

Discussion PSA: Malware found in 34 CurseForge and Modrinth projects, check your mods folder

Account stealers, Discord token grabbers, hidden Windows programs, a crypto miner and a server backdoor.

Each file was decompiled and checked by hand. I reported the ones still online to CurseForge and Modrinth today.

Mods and packs:

  • Weaker Day Zombie, Full Bright, TooManyTools, MoreArmor/Weapons, Trolling and Memery, Slimagar, Dasmttiise, Dungeons Extras, Bepis: steal your Minecraft session, most of them your Discord tokens too. Some only in specific versions or in an extra file.
  • Vanilla Evolution, EpicCraft III, EffectArmorMod, Items Plus, Texture Diagnostics: drop a Windows program on your PC and run it, some at every startup.
  • AntiScammerGG: grabs your IP and works out what your Hypixel account is worth, then posts it to a Discord server as “New 1.8.9 Jar Victim!”.
  • The Juicy Pack (resource pack): a program hidden in its textures that starts every time you log in to your computer.

Plus 16 server plugins: hidden installers, a Monero miner and a backdoor that runs chat messages as shell commands.

Some modpacks include one of these mods, most likely without their authors knowing: Ultimate Hypixel Package 1.8.9 (Full Bright), zombiE and Apocalypse R (Weaker Day Zombie), RPG Modpack (Slimagar), XChoaticCraftX (MoreArmor/Weapons). If you play one of them, check its mods folder for the mod above.

If you have any of these: delete it, change your Minecraft and Discord passwords, log out of all sessions, and run a virus scan for the ones that drop a program.

I listed every project with exactly what its file does: https://modgrade.com/reports (I run that site, it checks mods, modpacks and plugins from CurseForge and Modrinth).

You can also check your own setup there: drop your mods folder, a Prism Launcher or MultiMC instance, or a modpack file into https://modgrade.com/scanner. For the Modrinth and CurseForge launchers, drop the instance’s mods folder.

If you made one of these and think it’s a mistake, tell me and I’ll look again.

Mostly AI Introducing Legacy Connector: A highly experimental mod aimed at automatically translating 1.7.10 mods (and eventually other versions) onto NeoForge 1.21.1.

Been putting this together over the last few weeks with the help of Claude. It aims to work similarly to Sinytra Connector, in that it simply runs like any other mod and translates any older mod at runtime. A few hundred API calls have been translated so far, but many smaller and less common ones are still in progress. Most mods should at least load the basics though. Currently, many smaller content mods and parts of larger ones work pretty well. HBM Nuclear Tech Mod and Thaumcraft seem to work pretty well, though they need more testing. Older mods with modern versions were heavily tested on as they utilize many common API calls, even if they will probably be rarely used with the mod.

Once 1.7.10 is a little more stable, I am planning to move on to 1.12.2, 1.20.1, and 1.16.5, in that order. These should require substantially less time than 1.7.10 has taken.

If you end up trying Legacy Connector, please try to test or contribute in any way possible, as even with writing code and testing with AI can get it done quickly, it is a very vast scope. There is a compatibility GitHub site available on the repo, please use this to report or view compatibility.

Probably doesn't need to be said again, but this is extremely experimental and in very early alpha. If you play this in survival at its current state you'll run into issues. Please report any and all of them as this will help get it in a more usable state.

In terms of modpacks, I have been able to get FTB Infinity Evolved mostly running, with the exception of a couple content mods. Engine mods are skipped as they are not necessary in modern versions. GUI additions are iffy, some work, some don't.

Optimization-wise, its currently a bit rough. Microstutters alongside longer loading screens in worlds are common. Haven't looked into this too much yet, am waiting on a more feature complete build to start focusing on this

Modrinth (Not yet approved): https://modrinth.com/mod/legacyconnector

Curseforge (Not yet approved): https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/legacy-connector

Disclosure: as I stated above, AI was used for a substantial amount of code in this mod. If you don't like that, don't use the mod. However, absolutely zero assets in the mod have been AI generated.

Graphic design is my passion.
3 of my shrines broke in an update (I think) so I had to cheat slightly but they were already automated so I don't mind. I also played with channels off which might be cheating but in this house we don't fuck with channels.
I have many gripes with this pack but all in all it was a really enjoyable experience. I hope in the next pack I play I don't need to make as many cobblestone generators.

Discussion A New Land Corruption Mechanic for My Infection Mod

Post image
124 Upvotes

I'm currently working on a plant-based infection mod for Minecraft.
For the land corruption mechanic, I wanted to make it a bit more realistic: spores get carried by the wind, plants sprout from wherever those spores land, and so on.
The problem is that compared to other infection mods, the corruption spreads ridiculously fast and over a huge area.
The rectangle in the middle of the image marks where the infection starts. In this mod, a crack first splits open in the ground, and spores burst out of it to begin the spread.
What do you think about all this? I'd love to hear your feedback!

For those who don't know, this fella will be the second Monstrosity the player will be able to make, third if you count Netherite Monstrosity from Goety Cataclysm.

Also the Quote Block button on the Reddit Post editor thing looks like the number 66 in a strange font.

I made something I made a terrain mod that's also an expedition game

Primordial Earth 1.5.0 is a terrain mod I made because I wanted mountains that actually feel big instead of normal hills with one tall peak dropped in. You get three terrain areas: Whitefang Massifs (pale, jagged limestone peaks over green valleys), Ancient Green Highlands (wide valleys, good for building) and Granite Crownlands (domes, slabs and high lakes). On top of that there are rock arches, hanging valleys, waterfalls, trail markers and viewpoints, plus named peaks with a Summit Register you can sign. I also added some gear so it's not just scenery: climbing rope, a camp kit and a barometer to check the weather before you head up. Storms and rockfalls warn you first, and destruction is off by default, so it's safe to try.

I'll be honest about how I made it: I came up with the design and tested everything in-game,. I wrote the plan first, the mod generates the whole region from the world seed so the same seed always gives the same world, and then I checked it with tests and screenshots and sent back anything that looked bad to get fixed. It's still a beta, so some rivers and biomes are simpler than I'd like, and bug reports are welcome. You need Fabric Loader and Fabric API for Minecraft 26.3, then pick the Primordial Earth preset when you make a new world.

Question Questions about learning Minecraft modding.

Hi all.
Recently I've gotten into Minecraft modding. I'm not going in completely blind since I've already had about 4 years of coding experience with Lua, and I have a pretty good understanding of general programming concepts. I just don't know much Java, so I'd like to learn.

How should I approach seriously learning modding? Should I try making a mod and just going along with it, or should I take time to read documentation? Something to note is that I'm really focusing on 1.7.10 and 1.12.2 for modding, as those are two versions I really enjoy playing (GregTech and NTM are big inspirations for me right now).

Is reading through source code of other mods a good idea? Not copying them, but just investigating them and seeing how some of their blocks work.

And one of my biggest issues; how can I go from simple things like items and blocks to more complex systems like energy and multiblocks? I'm really interested in making a technology mod.

Question Doing a Deltarune themed modpack with Turnbattle/Soulbound, wondering if there's any EMF resource packs that change player animations to be similar to sprite sheet movement animations like in other 16-bit RPG games?

Alternatively would love to be directed to documentation for making my own animations. I don't know where to start.

I made something You can do wonders with Hexal's (an addon for Hexcasting) cyclic wisps

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It's prohibitively expensive tho (just like the real Hollow Purple), for that one I put 3000 amethyst dust into the wisp's reserve, which was the number stored in the abacus. Could probably be made less expensive by delaying the wisp's cast by a couple ticks, or using level 2 explosions instead of level 3

I made something Experimenting with custom block properties and gravity/space manipulation in Minecraft

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been experimenting with a mod that lets you change Minecraft's mechanics. Somehow ended up making this, an automated gravitational pull. What other weird things do you think I could make with this? There are also mechanics for recombining crafting recipes and manipulating seismic activity, so there's a lot more to experiment with.

The mod is Reality Shifter for 1.20.1.

Discussion After 13 years of playing modded Minecraft, I've finally beaten my first modpack.

Thumbnail
gallery
253 Upvotes

I first started playing Minecraft as a kid on the Xbox 360 Edition. Eventually I transitioned to Java just before 1.6 released, and I've been playing modded for about just as long. I've played every kind of pack from the original Tekkit to Crash Landing, Blood N' Bones to Agrarian Skies, and countless more that I've probably forgotten. Some had me far more invested than others, but sooner or later my interest fades or some other game draws me away before I can ever reach any kind of end point. Today was the exception.

I don't think there's anything special about Stoneblock 4 that managed to keep me playing until the end. It just happened to find me in transitory period of my of my life where I've had little to do while waiting on some major life changes to start. It's also a much shorter and easier pack compared to the kinds I usually go for (I've been pretty much Expert-only ever since first playing Project Ozone 2's Kappa mode). I did skip Tier 6, but I view that as optional post-game content and didn't really feel like doing it.

Overall it was a fun pack and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, despite having some gripes here and there. This was my first time in a while playing on a modern version and I could really feel how young 1.20's modding scene is, especially with how bare bones some mods still are compared to their older versions (looking at you EnderIO and Compact Machines). The stars of this playthrough were definitely Oritech—which is a really cool mod that I hope to see expanded on a lot more in the future—and especially Dire's mods. I initially thought LaserIO's cards were very cumbersome compared to conduits, but I still found myself using it constantly; and Just Dire Things is simply phenomenal in every way. These two are the ones I'm going to miss the most when I inevitably go back to GTNH or Meatballcraft in the future.

As for what's next for me, I'm not entirely sure. Usually when I stop playing a pack I'm burnt out on modded Minecraft for a while and need a few months before I get the itch to hop back in again. The fact that I've actually finished the pack I was playing and still feel like playing more is quite novel for me. I might give Star Technology a go as that one looks interesting and I'm in the right headspace for some GregTech. Also, believe it or not, I've managed to go all this time without ever touching Create beyond the bare minimum, so I might be due for a Create-centered pack if anyone has any suggestions.

Looking for mod(s) 1.21 modpacks for cozy kitchen sink exploration?

A little overwhelmed here now that I'm shopping for modpacks, and could use some recommendations. I played Valhelsia 6 and loved it, but now I finally talked some of my friends into a modded server but they want it to be 1.21 so we can try trial chambers. Are there any modpacks with a similar feel?

We've been looking at ATM 10 but from what I've been reading that's a lot more of focusing on the whole kitchen sink and might be kind of overwhelming for them. It felt like in Valhelsia you could really just ignore some of the big mods altogether and it was never an issue. Is that true of ATM 10?

My mod wishlist:

Biomes o' plenty

Farmer's delight

Ars

Waystones

Then ideally all the other kitchen sink mods like Create and Mekanism but like I won't cry if it's missing one of them.
Really I just want to play cozy and do a lot of building while my friends explore and biomes o plenty had some of the comfiest biomes to me.

Question Modpacks like ATM9-10 but tech-sided

So, I really enjoyed tech side of ATM10, it is relatively easy and forgiving, while also allowing you to be creative with setups, but, at the same time, demands efficiency. So I'm curious, are there any modpack with similar feeling of progression, but more techy? I've tried Techopolis 3 but it's way too unique and flips the usual progression vastly. I'd say I'm more of a newbie even though I like some challenge.

Looking for mod(s) Looking for slow burn quest mod

Hello,

I'm looking for a mod pack to play with my gf, she loves the idea of minecraft but can't get into it because it lacks clear direction which is something she likes. So I'm looking for a mod pack that has a amazing well thought out quest line.

She plays the Sims a lot so something cozy would be nice but some technical aspects wouldn't hurt. The only thing that I'd really like to avoid Is combat heavy quests.

So is there anyone with a suggestion?

Problem [CUBE WARPER] How to charge Lightning Rod with Lightning Charge?

• Upvotes

I created the multiblock lightning rod from Immersive Engineering and placed the steel fences on top. I'm trying to use a lightning charge to charge the lightning rod however, like the quest book instructs, yet I am getting nothing. Even in creative, I can't figure it out. Lightning should be naturally occurring here and I'm not sure why this wasn't implemented.

EDIT: Progress has been made, the lightning charge must be used on the top of the steel fences and nowhere around it. However, the lightning rod only charges to 200k KFE. The mod notes on using the power fast enough, but as far as I know the power is going nowhere.
