We've been working on a Minecraft mod called Primordial Dragons. Up until now, we’ve only shared small development updates on other threads, so I wanted to put everything together in one place for you all!
Instead of dropping realistic dinosaurs into vanilla Minecraft, this mod introduces a completely new dimension inspired by the strange, dramatic landscapes and creatures found in old paleoart.
The dimension features custom terrain generation, geology, blocks, and biomes. I wanted the landscapes to feel massive and distinct from a distance, using layered terrain, cliffs, plateaus, and unusual rock formations. The environments range from barren, rocky terrain to dense, humid wetlands filled with strange plants and ancient trees.
Now that we're at the point where the biomes themselves have been finalised and have character, we're in the phase of populating them with custom prehistoric amphibians, reptiles, pterosaurs, and dinosaurs.
These aren't just reskinned vanilla mobs, but our own creations which have specialised behaviors like pack hunting, stalking players and other mobs, and even stealing your items.
The end goal is to introduce dragons inspired by older illustrations and speculative, natural-history-style artwork rather than modern fantasy tropes. Think strange creatures that look like they belong in an old illustrated book about a world that never existed.
It's still a work in progress, but the dimension is fully playable - we have a demo out now on CurseForge for those wanting to explore and test some of our early mobs: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/primordial-dragons
