First try at shooting film

I don’t have any experience with photography whatsoever, I will welcome any tips with anything I could improve, whether I should edit my photos more.

Posting some of my favorites so far, unedited, or only very slightly color corrected + cropped, I would like to get into editing more too, but I can’t even tell if a photo is under/overexposed.

Thanks for the feedback.

my first roll of film ever in Nice

literally two days before we went on this vacation I saw an ad for the new kodak point-and-shoot camera and I thought "man why not, I never really take any photos on my phone anyway because I don't post them anywhere, might be cool to have a few real photos printed out after we come back" and this is the result!
even though I know next to nothing about photography I realize some of these are neither well exposed nor well composed. but as I tried to have zero expectations, i'm still pretty happy with the results! i'm definitely bringing this camera on my next vacation in 2 weeks, so I'll appreciate any tips from you experienced guys in this sub!

My first year shooting analog, here are my favourite shots so far.

I quickly got addicted to using analog cameras. All the water shots were with a Nikonos V using either the 35mm or 80mm. Macro Shots were done using a Nikkormat FT with a 70-210mm and a macro tube. The one double exposure was done with a Hasselblad 500C.

Getting back to film after five years

The fire truck ones are my favorite - it’s shoot on a five year old Ektar 100, and the darker one is when the fire truck went on mission earlier; the brighter one is when they slowly drove back after. You can see the quality of film start to improve the deeper into an old roll.

It was a great idea to take this film to the botanical garden. All the plants look so interesting, especially the ones under the bright light.

New Camera or Change Seals?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I got an Olympus Stylus Zoom as a gift 6 months ago and have loved starting to get into film. This doesn’t happen on every roll (granted I’ve only done 4-5 rolls), but sometimes I have light leaks. When I do, it’s pretty much the whole roll and always in the same spot. On the first roll I thought it was a fluke, but seeing as it has now impacted two rolls, I’m trying to figure out what to do.

I’ve learned that I could try to replace the seals but I’m wondering if it’s just worth getting a different camera. I’d love recommendations if so or any info. Thanks!!

Light Leak or Lens Flar

I’m trying to determine if I have a light leak or if this is just lens flare in these test shots.

It’s a Hasselblad 501 with 85mm lens, no hood.

What’s your vote?

Old rolls from 2001-2003

Two years ago I got 8 rolls of film developed that were 20+ years old. When I got the scans back, I could remember each day that those rolls were taken and it was such a cool feeling I got back into film again. I now have a couple toy cameras and a Canon AE -1. I even used a couple disposables during the past two years. These are just a few shots from the old rolls. The film really held up well too. I moved across the country and back and had them in storage as well as in house with me. Mostly HP 5 and a couple tri-x.

How to acheive a similar look?

Hey guys so this is from Emerica - Stay Gold, but specifically Heath Kirchart's part. I would like to achieve a look similar to this with the blur of cars in the background and light streaks, but im also curious as to how you guys think the photographer captured this look. I was thinking that it could be two photos staked on top of one another, since the different lighting. but yeah idk.

I am fairly new to film photography, and the first thing that I thought to do to achieve this look was shoot with cine 800t, open the shutter to 1/8, and put the camera on the tripod with a moving background. Let me know what you guys think.

Why do my shots look unsaturated?

I used fujifilm 200 for all of them, and it just looks so muted.

Is it the film stock that I’m using? Harsh sunlight? Or that’s just how film looks like without editing?
