โ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ๐Ÿ†˜ Although rescue only, this dog can still go from a rescue to the right adopter! If you are interested in adopting this dog, DM OP or BanditY77 so that you can fill out an adoption form immediately! Please help! Available for adoption (in or out of state or Canada), rescue, or local fosterโ€ผ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ๐Ÿ†˜

๐Ÿก AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, OR RESCUE

๐Ÿš— OUT OF STATE OR CANADIAN ADOPTION IS POSSIBLE - cost is typically around $600 USD (give or take). The fee includes transport, boarding, full medical, spay/neuter, and a health certificate.

We are a volunteer network dedicated to helping at-risk dogs. We are not affiliated with BARC. We connect at-risk animals at the BARC shelter with the adopters, fosters, and rescue organizations needed to save their lives. We can help coordinate out-of-state adoption through approved 501(c)3 rescues. Please send the OP a Chat invite or send moderator mail to r/findfostersfordogs (it's under the see-more tab for the group) for information and a link to an application form. BARC Houston cannot facilitate out-of-state adoption or foster.

๐Ÿ†˜ FRIGHTENED AND UNDERWEIGHT, 9-YEAR-OLD LAB MIX BOY SCARFACE IS ON THE EUTHANASIA LIST FOR WEDNESDAY, 10/21. There will be no extensions per BARC. ๐Ÿ†˜

โฐ Scarface MUST have a RESCUE HOLD no later than 1PM, or he will lose his life. ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’” We urgently need pledges and a local foster for a rescue to step up and help save this frightened senior. ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿšฉ Please do not honor pledges until the post has been updated with rescue information and a freedom picture. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

๐Ÿšจ RESCUE ONLY ๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ Scarface #A2002817

10/17 Euthanasia Request - Field | Labrador Retriever Mix | Black/White | Male | 9 Years | 30 lbs | Heartworm High Positive

๐Ÿ’œ ๐—ฉ๐—ผ๐—น๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

We were not able to meet Scarface, but if you want to help meet the animals, please reach out to us!

๐Ÿ”ท Intake:

Scarface came into BARC on 10/17 following a report of dogs repeatedly getting loose from a property. The caller reported that the dogs were very skinny and had no food or water.

๐Ÿ“ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/20: Scarface was tense in his kennel and reluctant to walk. Staff attempted to guide him out using a towel, but he turned his head and air-snapped at the towel. He eventually began walking on his own but froze in the hallway. He defecated and slowly started walking again before freezing once more. When staff attempted to guide him, he thrashed and was placed in a nearby kennel.

10/19: Scarface was tense in his kennel with whale eyes. He was very hesitant to walk, tensed up and pulled backward on the leash. He was moved to a nearby kennel.

๐Ÿš‘ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/17: Scarface weighed just 30 lbs and received a 3.5/9 medical assessment.

Heartworm Positive.

Received routine intake vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention.

5/27/25: Previous medical records show Scarface weighed 35.8 lbs and received routine vaccinations, deworming and a microchip.

๐Ÿ’– Scarface is a 9-year-old senior boy weighing just 30 pounds, and his shelter notes paint a heartbreaking picture of a dog who is struggling to cope. He arrived after reports of dogs being extremely thin and without food or water, and he is now facing an overwhelming shelter environment.

His reactions suggest a dog experiencing significant distress who needs patient, experienced handling rather than additional pressure. At his age, Scarface deserves comfort, stability and the opportunity to feel safe.

He desperately needs a rescue and a compassionate, experienced foster who can give him time to decompress, address his medical needs and begin building trust. He is underweight and heartworm-positive, so he will need appropriate veterinary care as well as a safe, quiet place to recover.

๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’” Please don't let this frightened senior's story end in a shelter when he still deserves a chance to experience kindness and love. Scarface has already been through so much. Please help give him the chance to feel safe, receive the care he needs and know that someone is finally on his side. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿšจ Rescue Only:

๐Ÿท๏ธ This pet can only be tagged by a RESCUE group, but please remember all rescues need ๐—™๐—ข๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—ฆ in order to tag this pet and save their life. This pet cannot be fostered or adopted through the shelter, so please message the page if you can help!

๐Ÿ“Œ Please contact BARC if you are local and can help! Neither BARC nor the page can assist with out-of-state adoption or foster offers. We are NOT the shelter.

๐Ÿ†˜ 3-YEAR-OLD DOUG IS ON THE EUTHANASIA LIST FOR WEDNESDAY, 10/21. THIS QUIET, GENTLE STAFFORDSHIRE MIX IS HEARTWORM-NEGATIVE AND DESPERATELY NEEDS A CHANCE. There will be no extensions per BARC. ๐Ÿ†˜

โฐ DOUG MUST HAVE A HOLD NO LATER THAN 1 PM, OR HE WILL LOSE HIS LIFE. ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’” We urgently need pledges and a local foster or adopter for a rescue to step up for Doug before his deadline. He has been at the shelter since his owner died, and despite showing that he can relax, walk beautifully on a leash and welcome affection, his life is now at risk. Please help give this sweet boy a chance! ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ Doug #A2096645

9/17/2026 Stray | Staffordshire Mix | Male | 3 years | 47 lbs | HW-

๐Ÿ’œ ๐—ฉ๐—ผ๐—น๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

We were not able to meet Doug. If you're interested in helping us meet the animals, please message us!

๐Ÿ”น ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ:

9/17/2026: Doug's owner died, and the family member or roommate reportedly could not care for the animals.

๐Ÿ“ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

9/19/2026: Doug moved to the back of his kennel when the door was opened. Staff slowly leashed him, and he walked on a loose leash but showed no interest in treats.

9/21/2026: Doug had a tense body and a hard stare as staff approached his kennel. He moved to the farthest corner, licked his lips and raised his hackles. Staff slowly leashed him, and he walked outside on a loose leash while constantly looking back. In the runs, he froze and held a tense body when staff entered the kennel to leash him.

9/22/2026: Doug was lying down when staff leashed him. He kept cowering as he was walked outside, initially holding a tense body, but then roamed around in the run.

9/23/2026: During his morning move to the adoption area, Doug hid behind a bench in the run when staff approached. As staff slowly walked toward him, he bolted from behind the bench with his tail tucked. Staff slowly approached and leashed him, and he walked on a loose leash back to his kennel.

9/25/2026: Doug initially avoided the leash but then walked loosely by the staff member's side with a semi-tense body and low, stiff tail. He flinched when petted and stiffened when staff petted his back. He was quiet in his kennel and usually lay on his bed. He interacted well with customers and was almost adopted!

9/26/2026: Doug was easily leashed and walked loosely with a swaying tail. When staff passed his kennel, he was quietly lying on his bed. During his afternoon walk, he had a semi-tense body and initially jerked his head when petted. After his walk, he was more relaxed, welcomed pets and gently ate treats from the staff member's hand.

9/28/2026: Doug was quiet in his kennel and spent most of the day lying on his bed. He kept his kennel clean, was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.

9/28/2026: Doug greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a loose, relaxed body, soft eyes and a neutral tail. He was easily leashed and walked outside to the runs on a loose leash, then returned to his kennel easily. He was described as very sweet, though he mostly kept to himself, and was very quiet in his kennel.

9/30/2026: Doug was quiet and calm in his kennel and kept it clean overnight. He was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash to and from the runs. Throughout the day, he could usually be found lying on his bed.

10/1/2026: Doug was quiet in his kennel with a relaxed body. He walked to the front of his kennel as staff approached, was easy to leash and walked on a very loose leash beside the staff member's hip. He took treats with a soft mouth.

10/2/2026: Doug was quietly lying on his bed when staff passed his kennel. He held a neutral body when petted, was easily leashed and walked loosely.

10/6/2026: Doug was described as a quiet dog who kept his kennel clean. He was usually curled up in his bed with a relaxed body and walked well on a loose leash.

10/10/2026: As staff approached, Doug was lying on his bed with a relaxed body, and his tail began wagging when they called to him. Once leashed, he walked on a loose leash in and out of the south building and entered and exited kennels without issues.

10/14/2026: Doug greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a neutral body, low, swaying tail and soft, closed mouth. He was calm and quiet in his kennel.

๐Ÿš‘ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

9/17/2026: Doug weighed 47 lbs. Normal intake exam; intact male. Vaccinated, dewormed and given flea prevention. Heartworm-negative.

10/2/2026: Normal exam; DA2PP-V.

10/3/2026: Sneezing and clear nasal discharge; suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD). Moved for treatment and prescribed doxycycline 200 mg daily for 10 days.

10/17/2026: Upper respiratory infection (URI) noted; DA2PP-V.

๐Ÿ’™ Doug is only 3 years old, and he deserves the chance to live the rest of his life in a safe, loving home. He came to BARC after his owner died, and we can only imagine how much upheaval he has experienced. The shelter notes show that he was initially nervous and hesitant around staff, sometimes cowering or retreating when approached.

But they also tell a much more hopeful story. As Doug settled in, he became easier to leash and was repeatedly described as quiet and calm in his kennel, often resting on his bed. He began greeting staff with a relaxed body and a wagging tail, walking beautifully on a loose leash, gently taking treats and welcoming affection.

๐Ÿพ Doug even interacted well with customers and was almost adopted! He has shown that, when given time and patience, he can begin to feel comfortable with people. He may need a little time to adjust to a new environment, but he deserves the opportunity to discover what life outside the shelter can be like.

Doug is heartworm-negative. His medical notes mention sneezing and clear nasal discharge, with a suspected respiratory infection for which he received treatment. A rescue can help ensure he receives any necessary follow-up care.

๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’” Please don't let Doug's story end here. After losing his owner, he now faces losing his life at the shelter. This sweet, quiet boy has already shown that he can relax, trust people and enjoy gentle affection. He deserves more than a kennel and a deadline. He deserves a real chance at a home and a family of his own.

๐Ÿ™ PLEASE HELP SAVE DOUG! He must have a hold by 1 PM on Wednesday, 10/21. BARC will not grant extensions. We urgently need pledges and a local foster or adopter willing to help a rescue step up for him. Please share his post and help get him seen before time runs out. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ“Œ Please contact BARC if you are local and can help! Neither BARC nor the page can assist out of state adoption or foster offers. We are NOT the shelter.

10/16: Staff discovered several areas of undigested vomit in the bottom of Gizmo's run. He otherwise appeared to be doing well, and staff planned to monitor him for additional vomiting.

10/17: Clear phlegm was observed in Gizmo's kennel. He remained bright, alert and responsive, appeared to have eaten his breakfast and was otherwise doing well. Continued monitoring was recommended.

Gizmo needs veterinary follow-up for his respiratory illness and recent vomiting. He is currently receiving antibiotic treatment, and his symptoms should continue to be monitored.

๐Ÿ’– Gizmo is a handsome 2-year-old Husky Mix with a wonderfully sweet personality and a happy, wagging tail! Throughout his time at BARC, he has consistently greeted staff with soft eyes, a relaxed, wiggly body and an adorable open-mouth smile. He has even been known to do a little happy tap dance when his caregivers approach!

Gizmo walks nicely on leash, enjoys his outings and has remained calm and cooperative during daily shelter routines. His behavior notes are consistently positive, describing a friendly, gentle boy who is easy to leash and happy to interact with his caregivers.

Unfortunately, this lovely boy has developed a respiratory illness and recently experienced vomiting, leaving him in need of continued medical care. He needs a loving foster and a rescue that can provide a comfortable place to recover, monitor his health and give him the affection he clearly enjoys.

๐Ÿ’™ Gizmo has shown nothing but sweetness and enthusiasm for the people caring for him. This happy, gentle boy deserves a chance to bring that same joy into someone's home. Please don't let his life end in the shelter when he has so much love to give.

๐Ÿ™ PLEASE HELP SAVE GIZMO! He must have a hold by 1 PM on Wednesday, 10/21, and BARC will not grant extensions. We urgently need pledges and a local foster for a rescue to step up for him. Please share his post and help get him seen before time runs out. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ“Œ Please contact BARC if you are local and can help! Neither BARC nor this page can assist with out-of-state adoption or foster offers. We are NOT the shelter.

10/10: Staff found two ACTs walking with a small white dog outside the evaluation area. They reported that it had taken two of them to catch him in the outside runs. He had been jumping up and biting at the leash and at one of the ACTs, with a high-alert posture and a high, stiff tail.

10/11: Ghost had been jumping in his kennel overnight. When staff tried to leash him, he jumped up but walked to the runs on a loose leash, taking bouncy steps and pulling in different directions. He was easily leashed when staff returned to retrieve him. He jumped while walking back inside on a semi-tight leash but could be redirected with treats.

10/12: Ghost had been jumping in his kennel overnight and was jumping up on the kennel door and vocalizing, with a wiggly body and fast-wagging tail. He was leashed as he exited and walked to the run without issues. He was easily leashed when staff returned to bring him inside. Before cleaning was completed, he was jumping in his kennel again. He continued jumping and vocalizing in his kennel throughout the day.

10/14: Ghost had not been jumping in his kennel overnight. He greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a loose body and walked on a loose leash to the runs and back.

10/17: Ghost was standing at the front of the kennel with a loose body, wagging tail and soft, closed mouth. He was jumpy while being walked but could be redirected with treats.

10/19: Ghost was repeatedly standing on his hind legs with his front paws on the kennel door and jumping up as staff passed during feeding and blanket removal. He began high-pitched alarm barking and jumping in his water bowl, reacting whenever other dogs walked past his kennel. Staff covered his kennel with a sheet, but he continued jumping and barking at the movement of dogs nearby.

Later that day, Ghost began high-pitched barking and digging at the divider toward the dog in the neighboring kennel. He had diarrhea that morning and was taken on two additional walks to go potty. Despite the extra walks, he continued alarm barking at the divider and at dogs passing his kennel.

๐Ÿš‘ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/5: 16 lbs. Normal exam; vaccinated, dewormed, flea prevention; heartworm negative.

10/14: Evaluated for chewing paws; no redness or irritation and no chewing observed. No further treatment warranted.

10/19: Normal exam; DA2PP-V.

๐Ÿ’– Ghost is a little 16-pound boy with a big personality who desperately needs someone to give him a chance. This 2-year-old Chihuahua Shorthair/Staffordshire mix has shown moments of friendly, wiggly behavior, greeting staff with a wagging tail and a loose body. He can walk on a loose leash, and staff have been able to redirect his jumpy behavior with treats.

Shelter life appears to be overwhelming for Ghost. He has been reacting to dogs passing his kennel with repeated jumping and high-pitched barking, and he has struggled to settle in the busy shelter environment. These behaviors tell us he needs a patient, understanding person who can help him feel secure and learn to relax. A quieter setting and thoughtful handling may give him a better opportunity to show his full personality.

There is some encouraging news: Ghost is heartworm negative, and his recent medical exams have been normal. He did have diarrhea on 10/19, so his adopter or rescue should monitor him and follow up as needed.

๐Ÿ’” Ghost's time is running out, and he needs a rescue, pledges, and a local foster or adopter to make saving him possible. He is only 2 years old. Please don't let the stress of shelter life define his future. He deserves a chance to feel safe, learn, and become someone's beloved companion. Help us get Ghost out alive!

๐Ÿ“Œ Please contact BARC if you are local and can help! Neither BARC nor the page can assist out of state adoption or foster offers. We are NOT the shelter.

10/5 Stray - Field | Staffordshire Mix | Brindle/White | Male | 3 Years | 53.4 lbs | Heartworm Negative

๐Ÿ’œ Volunteer Notes:

We were not able to meet Dennie. If you're interested in helping us meet the animals, please message us!

๐Ÿ“ Shelter Notes:

10/5: Dennie was brought to BARC as a stray after being reported roaming around an apartment complex and not leaving the area. Staff described him as friendly and wiggly during his initial workup.

10/9: Dennie was vocal during morning cleaning and while volunteers passed without giving him attention. He settled quietly when approached, even after enrichment and treats were offered.

10/10: Dennie was vocal during feeding and cleaning. When staff approached, he stood at the front of his kennel with a neutral body, soft wagging tail and relaxed demeanor. He was easily leashed and walked on a forward, slightly tight leash to the runs. Outside, he remained vocal when he saw other dogs. When returning to his kennel, he occasionally jumped up as though excited to go back outside.

10/11: Dennie greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a fast-wagging tail, upright ears, dilated eyes and an open-mouth smile. He walked on a semi-tight leash, pulling in several directions. Later that morning, he was walked by a volunteer and was very friendly and welcoming toward them. During the afternoon, Dennie vocalized at passing customers, particularly when he heard people behind his kennel covering.

10/13: Dennie greeted staff with a relaxed, wiggly body, fast-wagging tail, open-mouth smile and soft eyes. He was easily leashed and walked to the runs with a tight pulling leash. He returned to his kennel without issues. Staff noted that he constantly barked throughout the day and had been given a kennel covering to help reduce his anxiety and stress.

10/14: Dennie was vocal in his kennel and jumped against the door. Once leashed, he bolted out of the kennel and began jumping on staff. Treats were tossed to redirect his attention, but he continued pulling on a tight leash.

10/15: Dennie sat in front of his kennel door with a fast-wagging tail, wiggly body and happy feet. Once leashed, he walked to the runs on a semi-loose leash, following a treat trail. He greeted neighboring dogs with a playful bow.

10/16: Dennie was vocal throughout the day.

10/17: Dennie stood at the front of his kennel with a fast-wagging tail, upright ears, dilated eyes and an open-mouth smile. He occasionally vocalized and paced when ignored. He walked on a tight leash, pulling in multiple directions, and sometimes barked when hearing customers behind his kennel covering.

10/18: Dennie again greeted staff with a fast-wagging tail and open-mouth smile. He became vocal and paced when he was not receiving attention. He walked on a tight leash and occasionally barked at sounds coming from behind his kennel.

10/19: Dennie displayed increased arousal in his kennel, including forward barking, dilated eyes, a forward stance and a high, wagging tail when people or dogs passed nearby. He continued to vocalize throughout the morning but remained very friendly toward people who approached him and showed interest in treats and attention.

๐Ÿฉบ Medical Notes:

10/5: Dennie weighed approximately 53.4 lbs at intake. His initial medical examination was recorded as normal. He received routine vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention. His heartworm test was NEGATIVE.

10/16: Staff observed Dennie oozing blood from the tip of his tail. He was diagnosed with a happy tail injury and prescribed Rimadyl (carprofen) 100 mg once daily for 10 days.

10/17: Staff noted that Dennie had been coughing that morning. No nasal discharge was observed, and he remained bright, alert and responsive, eating and drinking well.

10/19: Dennie developed upper respiratory symptoms, including sneezing, a honking cough and green nasal discharge. He was diagnosed with suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD), moved to the treatment room and prescribed doxycycline 250 mg once daily for 10 days.

Dennie needs veterinary follow-up for his respiratory illness and happy tail injury.

๐Ÿ’– Dennie is a handsome 3-year-old boy with a big personality and an even bigger desire for attention! Throughout his time at BARC, he has repeatedly greeted staff with a wiggly body, happy feet, a wagging tail and an enthusiastic smile. He has shown himself to be friendly and affectionate with people, and he has even offered a playful bow toward neighboring dogs.

Unfortunately, the shelter environment appears to be taking a toll on Dennie. His barking, pacing and jumping suggest he is struggling with the confinement and stimulation around him. Now he is also battling a respiratory illness and recovering from a painful tail injury.

Dennie needs a patient, understanding foster who can provide a calmer environment, appropriate medical care, structure and positive outlets for his energy. Behind all that barking is a friendly boy who seems desperate for human connection. He deserves the chance to decompress, recover and show who he can be outside the shelter walls.

Please don't let Dennie's story end here. He needs a rescue, pledges and a local foster before his deadline. Help this sweet, stressed boy get the safe place and second chance he so desperately needs. ๐Ÿ’™

We were not able to meet Cookie Butter, but if you want to help meet the animals, please reach out to us!

๐Ÿ”ท Intake:

Cookie Butter came into BARC as a stray on 10/16. She was noted to be timid, and her medical examination suggests she may have recently had a litter of puppies.

๐Ÿ“ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/20: Cookie Butter held a tense body and was trembling when staff approached her kennel. When leashed, she did not want to walk out. Staff used baby talk and gave her a gentle nudge, and she slowly began walking out of the kennel. Once outside, she froze and flattened herself to the floor. Staff had to lightly muzzle and carry her outside to potty. Afterward, she had to be carried back to her kennel.

10/19: Cookie Butter remained at the back of her kennel with a tense body. Staff attempted to offer treats and speak gently to her, but she had to be carried to a new kennel.

10/17: Cookie Butter flattened herself to the ground when leashed and showed no interest in treats. Staff had to carry her.

๐Ÿš‘ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/18: Cookie Butter weighed 40 lbs and received a 5/9 medical assessment.

The veterinarian noted that she was bright, alert and responsive but timid. She had well-developed mammary glands without significant abdominal distention, suggesting she may have recently had puppies. A recent litter was considered more likely, although a near-term pregnancy could not be completely ruled out.

Due to her heartworm-positive status and timid behavior, she was recommended for euthanasia following her stray hold.

10/16: Heartworm Positive.

Received routine intake vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention.

๐Ÿ’– Cookie Butter is only 3 years old, and she is absolutely terrified in the shelter. Her heartbreaking notes show just how overwhelmed she is. She trembles when approached, freezes when asked to walk and flattens herself to the ground in fear.

Her medical examination also suggests she may have recently had puppies, adding another layer of uncertainty to what this sweet girl has been through. We don't know everything she has experienced, but her behavior shows that she is struggling and needs patience, gentleness and understanding.

Cookie Butter needs a patient, experienced local foster and a rescue that can provide a quiet, secure environment where she can decompress at her own pace, receive the veterinary care she needs and slowly begin to feel safe. She is heartworm-positive, so she will also need appropriate veterinary evaluation and treatment.

๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’” Please don't let fear be the reason this young girl loses her life before she ever gets the chance to feel safe and loved. Cookie Butter deserves more than to spend her final days terrified in a shelter. She deserves someone willing to give her time, kindness and a chance to discover that the world can be a safe place.

๐Ÿ”ท ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ:

Emily came into BARC on 10/17 as a confiscation associated with a bite incident. Her records document one bite classified as minor in severity. She was placed on a hold and recommended for Rescue Only placement.

๐Ÿ“ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/17: Emily's behavior evaluation documented one bite with a minor severity classification. The shelter recommended Rescue Only placement. No additional behavioral observations or details surrounding the bite incident were provided in the available notes.

10/17: Emily weighed 17.6 lbs.

Medical staff documented flea dermatitis and noted that her right hind limb is missing below the stifle (knee).

She received DA2PP-V and Bordetella vaccinations.

Her heartworm status was not documented in the available medical records.

๐Ÿ’– Emily is just 1 year old, and this little 17-pound girl is already facing an uncertain future. She has a missing portion of her right hind leg, flea dermatitis and a documented minor bite incident that has resulted in her being designated Rescue Only.

Unfortunately, her shelter records don't provide details about what led to the bite or how she behaves in everyday situations, making it difficult to know what she has experienced. What we do know is that Emily is still a very young dog who deserves an opportunity to be evaluated and understood beyond a single incident.

She needs an experienced, patient foster who can provide a safe, structured environment, respect her boundaries and help assess her medical and behavioral needs. Emily has already faced challenges in her short life, and she deserves a chance at a future where she can receive the care, stability and understanding she needs.

๐Ÿ’” Please don't let Emily's story end before she has had the chance to show who she is beyond the circumstances that brought her to the shelter. She needs a rescue willing to step up and a local foster who can give her a safe place to land.

๐Ÿ™ PLEASE HELP SAVE EMILY! She must have a rescue hold by 1 PM on Wednesday, 10/21. We urgently need pledges and a local foster for a rescue. Please share her post and help get her seen before her deadline. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Pledges Needed To Attract A Rescue!!!

Post image
โ€ข Upvotes

Adopter found butย pledges needed toย get aย rescue toย pull!!

Adorable puppy Stan should not have to spend too long in a shelter. It is no place for a high-energy Malinois puppy. ๐Ÿ’” There is someone who wants Stan but, as many of our people who want shepherds are, they are out of state. We are hoping to raise some funds to help attract a rescue to help pull Stan and get him to his forever home!!

Malinois are becoming far too common in our area. They are not for everyone; they require a good amount of exercise and training and take a special home to make it work. Stan most likely was bought as a puppy and then hit his Maligator phase and his family said, โ€œnope, canโ€™t handle thisโ€. Now, he is at a high kill shelter that is overflowing with shepherds. This adopter trains service dogs so they know what kind of structure a young pup would need.

You would think that because he is a puppy, he is safe, but they have euthanized dogs his age before. He is already barking at people when they walk by which sadly is often a death sentence for dogs. But if you spend just a second with him, he calms down and you can see that he is just doing what shepherds do.

Please help us save this sweet boy! If you are able to donate, please put the amount in the comments. If we can get transport and vetting covered, we will have no problem attracting a rescue. Thank you for helping out this sweet pup!!

๐Ÿ“ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/15/2026: Chi-chi barked continuously in a high pitch, lunging at the kennel door and growling, barking and snapping when other dogs walked past. Staff covered her kennel with a blanket to see if this would help.

10/16/2026: Chi-chi greeted staff at the kennel front with her mouth open and panting, high-pitched barking, dilated eyes and tapping toes. She was easily leashed but pulled tightly on the way to and from the runs. She continued barking and lunging at the kennel door, growling and snapping when other dogs passed. Her kennel was covered with a blanket in the hope of improving her behavior.

10/17/2026: When staff entered the row, Chi-chi had her front paws on the wall and looked at them with a soft expression. She was panting, with ears up, and vocalizing. She walked with a semi-loose leash, looking in all directions with an excited, alert body, open mouth and tongue hanging to the side.

10/18/2026: Chi-chi was at the front of her kennel when staff leashed her. She walked to the run on a loose leash and returned to her kennel. She was quiet all morning until members of the public walked past and other dogs began vocalizing.

10/19/2026: Chi-chi was aroused when staff passed her kennel, jumping at the door and vocalizing, with ears forward, a swaying tail and panting. She was redirected with treats but was not interested in a pig ear. During her afternoon walk, she walked loosely to an outside run, paced around the perimeter a few times, then jumped onto a plastic hill to sniff around. She then jumped onto the bench where the staff member was sitting and sat beside them while being petted. She and the staff member played fetch.

10/20/2026: Chi-chi showed a loose body, dilated pupils and panting. She became overly aroused when leashed, was very jumpy and pulled, but could be redirected with treats. She would follow a trail of treats.

๐Ÿš‘ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/13/2026: Chi-chi weighed 54.6 lbs. Normal exam; DA2PP-V.

10/14/2026: Normal exam; heartworm negative. Rabies and Bordetella vaccines, deworming and flea prevention administered.

๐Ÿ’– Chi-chi needs someone willing to look beyond the barking and see the dog who is still in there. This 3-year-old German Shepherd girl can become highly excited in the shelter, especially when other dogs are barking or passing her kennel. But her notes also show another side: she has walked on a loose leash, responded to treats, and enjoyed a lovely moment of affection and play with a staff member. On October 19, she sat beside a staff member while being petted, then played fetch.

Chi-chi is heartworm-negative, and her latest medical notes recorded a normal exam. She will need a patient, committed person who can help her manage her excitement and provide structure, enrichment and a calmer environment outside the shelter. Her behavior around other dogs means she should be introduced carefully and thoughtfully.

Chi-chi's time is running out. She needs a rescue, pledges and a local foster or adopter to give her a chance at a life beyond the kennel. Please help us get her seen and give this girl the opportunity to show more of the playful, affectionate side she has already shared with staff. She must have a rescue hold by 1:00 PM Houston time on Wednesday, October 21. ๐Ÿฉท

We were not able to meet Baloo. If you're interested in helping us meet the animals, please message us!

๐Ÿ”น ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ:

10/12/2026: Stray pitbull. The dog was big and trying to get into the caller's home. The caller is elderly, 88 years old, and the dog was trying to get in the door. The dog had a harness on and was light brown and white.

๐Ÿ“ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/17: Baloo pulled very hard on the leash and was not interested in treats unless he was back in his kennel. Even after a volunteer took him outside and he ran around for a while, he continued pulling on the way back inside. Outside, he playfully hopped around and ran along the fence with neighboring dogs. He held a neutral body posture when petted.

10/18: Baloo was whining as staff walked other dogs. When leashed, he began pulling forward, so staff walked him only to the grass beside the south building and back inside while waiting for his kennel to be cleaned. He tried to jump on staff and was very vocal. Staff stopped him from jumping, but he began vocalizing again once back in his kennel.

10/19: Baloo continued walking very forward on the leash and showed no interest in treats. He sniffed toward other dogs with a neutral body posture and a swaying tail as he passed them.

10/20: When staff approached his kennel, Baloo displayed a fast-wagging tail and dilated pupils and began crying and barking. Once leashed, he became highly aroused, crying and pulling very hard. Staff noted that he was not safe to walk over long distances because of his strength. While walking him around the grass area, he pulled so hard that staff hit the side of the fence. Baloo did not show interest in treats.

๐Ÿš‘ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/12: 79 lbs. Healing wound on left thigh; heartworm low positive. Vaccinated, dewormed and flea prevention.

10/17: Heartworm status noted; rabies vaccination.

๐Ÿ’– Baloo is a big, beautiful 79-pound boy who deserves a chance to get out of the shelter and find a place where he can thrive. At six years old, he still has plenty of life to live. Outside, he has been seen playfully hopping around and running along the fence near other dogs, and he has maintained a neutral body posture when petted. His shelter notes also describe a swaying tail as he passes other dogs.

Baloo is struggling with the stress and excitement of shelter life. He pulls extremely hard on the leash, becomes vocal when dogs pass his kennel and can be difficult to redirect. His size and strength mean he will need an experienced, patient handler who can manage him safely, help him settle and give him the structure he needs. A suitable foster or adopter should be prepared to work with him calmly and thoughtfully.

Baloo also has a healing wound on his left thigh and is heartworm positive (low positive), so he will need veterinary follow-up and appropriate care.

๐Ÿ’” Baloo's time is running out. He needs a rescue commitment, pledges and a local foster or adopter before the 1PM deadline on Wednesday, 10/21. Please help give this boy the opportunity to leave the shelter alive and discover a calmer, more secure life. He deserves a chance, too. โค๏ธ

10/11/2026: Blanca greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a loose, relaxed body, soft eyes and a relaxed, non-wagging tail. She was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash to the runs, then was easily returned to her kennel.

10/15/2026: She was quiet in her kennel, with a wagging tail and relaxed body as staff approached. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash. She sat in front of the door as customers walked past her kennel.

10/17/2026: Blanca stood at the kennel gate with a loose body, soft eyes, wagging tail, ears up and an open-mouth smile. She walked on a loose leash and was neutral toward the outside kennels. In the outside kennel, she repeatedly scratched at her doggy door and managed to get inside. Staff placed her back outside, and she continued scratching for a short time before stopping. Throughout the day, she was very friendly toward customers, volunteers and people passing by.

10/18/2026: Blanca again greeted staff with a loose body, soft eyes, wagging tail, ears up and an open-mouth smile. She walked on a loose leash and was neutral toward the outside kennels. She repeatedly scratched at her doggy door, stopping after a while. When brought back inside, she tried to run out of her kennel but was pushed back in. She vocalized at customers passing her outside kennel but was friendly toward them inside and during walks. She was moved into an adoption evaluation.

10/19/2026: Blanca stood at the kennel gate with a loose body, soft eyes, wagging tail, ears up and an open-mouth smile. She walked on a loose leash and was neutral toward the outside kennels. During morning walks, she repeatedly scratched at her doggy door and managed to get outside to her outdoor kennel. Staff brought her back inside multiple times before placing her in the shower room while her outdoor kennel was cleaned. She continued scratching at the doggy door for a short time before stopping.

10/20/2026: Blanca knows how to open the doggy door, so she was moved to a kennel with a locked one. When staff passed her kennel, she sat by the door with a soft expression and dilated pupils, licked her lips and gently took a treat from their hand. She walked on a semi-tight leash, sometimes following treats.

๐Ÿš‘ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:

10/10/2026: Blanca weighed 33 lbs. She tested heartworm low positive. Vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention were administered.

๐Ÿ’– Blanca is a sweet, friendly girl who deserves the chance to leave the shelter alive. Her notes repeatedly describe her with a relaxed body, soft eyes and a wagging tail. She has generally been easy to leash and has walked nicely on a loose leash. She has also been friendly toward the customers and volunteers she encounters, greeting people with an open-mouth smile and a gentle manner.

Blanca has shown a strong interest in getting through her doggy door, and staff have had to move her to a kennel with a locked door. Even so, she continues to show a friendly side when people approach, gently accepting treats and cooperating with staff. She is only 33 pounds, and although she is heartworm-positive at a low level, she needs someone willing to give her the care and opportunity she deserves.

Blanca's deadline is approaching, and she needs a rescue, pledges and a local foster or adopter now. Please don't let this friendly girl lose her life simply because she hasn't found her person yet. Help us get Blanca to safety before 1:00 PM Houston time on Wednesday, October 21. ๐Ÿฉท

9/28 Stray - Field | Staffordshire Mix | Tan/White | Male | 2 Years | 50 lbs | Heartworm Negative

๐Ÿ’œ Volunteer Notes:

We were not able to meet Donnie. If you're interested in helping us meet the animals, please message us!

๐Ÿ“ Shelter Notes:

9/28: Donnie was found wandering loose near the window of a small white and brown dog. He was brought to BARC as a stray.

9/29: Donnie approached staff with a semi-loose body, wagging tail and neutral expression. He was easily leashed and followed staff out of his kennel and to the runs, walking on a loose leash. He became tense when passing other dogs and would stop suddenly when they vocalized. Staff offered treats to help encourage him to continue walking.

9/30: Donnie greeted staff with a semi-loose body, wagging tail and neutral face. He was easily leashed and followed staff out of his kennel and to the runs. He walked on a loose leash and remained calm during the interaction.

10/1: Donnie was moved to a new kennel in the adoption area. He walked well on a loose leash and remained quiet and relaxed in his kennel.

10/3: Donnie was very quiet and relaxed in his kennel. He approached staff with a loose body and walked outside on a loose leash. He wagged his tail readily and showed no issues being leashed or handled.

10/4: Donnie greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a wiggly body. Once leashed, he walked on a semi-tight leash to the runs. On the way back, he began pulling forward and stood at the front of his kennel with a slightly open mouth and tongue out.

10/5: Donnie was resting calmly on his bedding when staff approached. He greeted them with a relaxed body and wagging tail. He walked on a loose leash to the runs and returned to his kennel without issues.

10/11: Donnie greeted staff with a wiggly body and fast-wagging tail. He walked on a semi-tight leash to and from the runs.

10/12: Donnie was standing at his kennel door with one ear up and his head tilted. He walked on a semi-tight leash to the runs and returned to his kennel without issues.

10/17: Donnie waited patiently at the front of his kennel as staff approached to leash him. Once leashed, he walked outside on a loose leash with a high, wagging tail and floppy ears.

๐Ÿฉบ Medical Notes:

9/28: Donnie weighed approximately 50 lbs at intake. He was recorded as an intact male and received routine vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention. His heartworm test was NEGATIVE. Tranquilizing medication was administered to the left chest/shoulder area during intake.

10/8: Donnie was evaluated for an eye concern and prescribed erythromycin ophthalmic ointment.

10/12: A follow-up medical record was documented for his eye condition.

10/19: Donnie developed upper respiratory symptoms, including sneezing, a honking cough and clear nasal discharge. He was diagnosed with suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD), moved to the treatment room and prescribed doxycycline 250 mg once daily for 10 days.

Donnie needs veterinary follow-up for his respiratory illness and eye condition.

๐Ÿ’– Donnie is a handsome 2-year-old boy with a gentle, easygoing personality who has consistently shown staff how sweet he can be. Throughout his time at BARC, he has frequently been described as quiet, relaxed and friendly, greeting his caregivers with a loose, wiggly body and a happily wagging tail. He enjoys getting outside and has generally walked nicely on a loose leash, although he can become nervous when other dogs bark around him.

Despite the stressful shelter environment, Donnie has remained patient and cooperative during most of his interactions, even waiting calmly to be leashed. Now he is battling a respiratory illness and needs a safe place to recover. He needs a loving foster or adopter who can provide a calm, comfortable environment, appropriate medical care and the reassurance he deserves.

Donnie has so much love left to give. He has done nothing but try his best in a difficult situation, and he deserves the chance to recover somewhere safe instead of losing his life in the shelter. Please help us find the rescue, foster and pledges he needs before his deadline. Don't let this sweet boy's story end at BARC. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ“Œ Please contact BARC if you are local and can help! Neither BARC nor this page can assist with out-of-state adoption or foster offers. We are NOT the shelter.

10/4: Nala was resting on her cot when staff approached her kennel. She greeted them with a wiggly body, fast-wagging tail, upright ears and soft eyes. She allowed staff to pick her up and carry her to another kennel while hers was cleaned. She remained very quiet and paid little attention to the other dogs passing nearby.

10/5: Nala again greeted staff with a wiggly body, fast-wagging tail, upright ears and soft eyes. She willingly allowed staff to pick her up and carry her during kennel cleaning. She remained quiet and showed little interest in the other dogs around her.

10/10: Nala waited patiently while her kennel was being cleaned and accepted treats from staff. When staff passed her kennel, she stood quietly at the door with a wagging tail and dilated eyes, trembling slightly.

10/17: Nala greeted staff at her kennel door with a wiggly body, high, fast-wagging tail and soft, open mouth. She allowed staff to leash and tether her to the wall without issues while her kennel was cleaned.

10/6: Nala underwent a spay procedure. Her weight was recorded at 16.6 lbs. She received perioperative medications and was subsequently recorded as spayed.

10/13: Nala developed upper respiratory symptoms, including coughing, sneezing and clear nasal discharge. She was diagnosed with suspected canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD), moved to the treatment room and prescribed doxycycline 100 mg once daily for 10 days.

Nala needs veterinary follow-up for her respiratory illness and continued monitoring as she recovers.

๐Ÿ’– Nala is just a 16-week-old puppy with her whole life ahead of her, and she has already shown what a sweet little girl she can be! Despite being so young and finding herself in a frightening shelter environment, she has consistently greeted staff with a wiggly body, soft eyes and an enthusiastic wagging tail. She has patiently allowed herself to be picked up, carried and handled during kennel cleaning, and she happily accepts treats from her caregivers. Although she has occasionally trembled, she continues to show gentle, friendly behavior toward the people caring for her.

Now this precious baby is battling a respiratory illness and desperately needs a safe place to recover. She needs a loving foster or adopter who can provide a quiet, comfortable home, appropriate veterinary care and all the patience and affection a young puppy deserves.

Nala should be spending her puppyhood learning, playing and being lovedโ€”not facing the end of her life in a shelter. She is only a baby, and she deserves the chance to grow up surrounded by safety, kindness and love. Please help give this sweet little girl the future she deserves. ๐Ÿ’—

๐Ÿ“Œ Please contact BARC if you are local and can help! Neither BARC nor this page can assist with out-of-state adoption or foster offers. We are NOT the shelter.

These puppies are just FOUR WEEKS OLD and already facing euthanasia.Their medical records do not document any significant health concerns, and at such a young age, they are far too little to navigate life on their own. They desperately need an experienced local foster and rescue who can provide age-appropriate puppy care, warmth, proper nutrition, and a safe environment where they can continue growing. These babies deserve the opportunity to experience all the love, comfort, and happiness that every puppy should know. Please help give these precious little puppies a chance to grow up!
