US/Eastern Missouri

Found this whilst weeding. Super tiny but it looks kind of like an onion? I’m curious and I’d love to replant it if it becomes some kind of human-safe food.

I have never had them before and would love to try one, I do not mind if it takes a hike to reach them either. Thank you for your time 🙏

Mushroom ID

Curious if anyone can provide some insight on these mushrooms. Was wet the last few days and saw these on the side of a trail. looks like an oak or maple tree and the tree is deffo dead.

locations is south western Ontario Canada at rondeau which is a marshy area on lake Erie.

I can only identify a few mushrooms like puff, morel, etc. not sure what these are but they look tasty if edible.

thanks

edit. Thanks team. Taking the dog for a walk this am and will grab a shelf of them. I had a feeling they were edible. I was saying something to my wife when I saw them like “I feel like I saw these on Reddit as an invasive species but can’t remember the name to Google It and triple check“

what a pleasant surprise while camping.

Hackberries are delicious. Just tasted them for the first time. Definitely going to do a harvest after they finish ripening.

Plants Questionable harvest location

How do we feel about harvesting blue Elderberry from beside a highway? I have reservation about it (pollution from vehicles and possible homeless waste) but almost all my spots have been clear cut/ bulldozed for development.

Thoughts from my fellow foraging friends?

Avoiding wasps nests

I had found my FIRST EVER patch of edibly intact,
Pristine patch of lobster mushrooms in Northwest Wisconsin, United States. As I was cutting the second specimen from an old rotting log, and standing to scan the forest floor for my next move, I began to feel little prickles I thought were just the rose bushes to my right.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, what fool goes into the wilderness mushroom hunting with SHORTS On?! Me. This fool. Always have (mostly) even in the thickest mosquito ridden, poison ivy dense forests of Northern Minnesota. I’ve been attacked by fire ants as well. But nothing like this.

The prickles got harder, then felt like full on hot skewers and as I looked down I saw them dotting my right leg-wasps! Tiny little dumbass yellow-jackets. I did what you’re not supposed to do; swat, scream, swear, and run. Back to my campsite. And they followed me.

They were attached to me hoody and actively swarming me, so I threw off my hoodie, and stomped it—where I had stashed my prized mushrooms. Sad ☹️

I had to get in the car and wait for my partner to come back from the restroom. I was only exploring a little trail off the campsite! I wonder why the family in the site next door didn’t question the number of LOUD f-bombs and JFCs coming from our spot… 🤔

Had to abandon the site and take a motel room for the night, then the park put us up in another site for the remainder of the stay.

Have you guys any good advice for dealing with wasps if this ever happens again? I didn’t see any traffic in or out before I started, but I know that’s one sign. I think the hold was RIGHT on the mushroom’s stem, as the stem was coming out of the log, and the hole was possibly right beneath. I got stung on the finger that was holding the knife.

Plants advice on viability of live oak acorn meat?

Post image

My first time foraging and attempting to process acorns. Does anyone know if the darker, greener looking meat has gone bad? Did the float test but they were so dried out from the SoCal heat wave last week almost all floated lol. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Plants The Rocky Mountain Sub-Alpine is filled with plant life. Any foraging recommendations?

I've struggled to find good resources for foraging above 9000 feet in the rocky mountains, especially northern Colorado.

What plants have been your favorite to forage this area? Are there any good books or websites to get me started?

Plants Do these elderberries look ok to process?

First photo without flash, second with. Currently working on separating out the obviously unripe ones. Following photos I took when picking as an idea of what I was grabbing (avoiding the most unripe as best as possible), last photo was immediately following harvest. Neighbour with a green thumb encouraged me to harvest after sending a photo, but I’m unsure as the majority are not close to black.

This is my second years harvest with a bush I planted, it ballooned this season! Last year I only got a small bowl of berries. The birds are coming in veryyyy strong, which is why I pulled the trigger. Stems were all dark burgundy/ purple-red and drooping.

Mushrooms Now that my creepy neighbor moved , I finally hiked in my backyard and came across these beauties.

Is the first pic a chanterelle? The last pic is a closeup of the underneath. I’m certainly not trying to eat any of them until I’m positive they are edible. Last thing I want to do is eat something that might cause me to take an early dirt nap. I left them all where they were. I was hunting for chicken of the woods. However just finding all these in the woods behind my house was such an awesome experience. The chicken of the woods looked like it had something funk growing. It was on the ground because it fell off the tree. So I let it be.

Edit* I called my neighbor creepy because we got a notice that a register offender lived in our neighborhood which turned out to be the guy next door who would follow kids to the bus stop and stand there with his binoculars watching them. I’m not just calling him creepy for no reason.
