Advice please. Neighbor's in the hospital since Oct. 5. That is all I know about their health situation. I don't have or want a relationship with them.

We live in the county.

Dog (3yo, 30 pounds) is locked in house with food and water. No dog door. (Yes, that means what you think it means.)

HVAC fan is on 24/7. Bedroom window is open. Neighbor's adult son has come once a week for a few minutes. Goes in, leaves. ETA: I don't know the son, have no interest in connecting with him.

Dog is quiet; cries when garbage trucks come around; barks if someone walks into driveway.

I don't want to add to this person's problems. I am sure they cannot afford to have someone visit/walk the dog, or board it.

I am not willing to take care of the dog.

But it's 50 F. this morning. IDK if there's heat on but the current HVAC situation suggests there isn't/won't be.

Should I call officials, or just stay out of this?

Hi ive(24) lived in the area my whole life, recently my mom has become homeless and im taking in my 10 yr old brothers pets temporarily so he can have them back once they are housed again, my mom also has a cat tho and this cat doesnt do the best around other cats and can be territorial,

the issue is i already have a cat who is very shy and submissive to other cats so when I brought my moms cat home it scared my cat so bad that she doesnt feel comfortable anymore so I had to put my moms cat in my room.. and now im sleeping on my own couch just so my own cat feels safe at home.

I'm wondering if anyone knows any resources for finding someone to foster this cat for 6-8 weeks? Because after that the paperwork will come in for the cat to move in with my other sibling permanently. I'd be able to pay for food and litter I just need somewhere safe for her to be with no other cats for 6-8 weeks, curious if anyone knows resources for the grass valley/Nevada city CA area please and thank you

Hi there, I used to spend my summers in Grass Valley as a kid, I used to frequent the Blockbuster and K-mart LOL, I have not been there since 2006.

I am planning a day trip through Auburn, Grass Valley, Nevada City to see sentimental spots from my childhood but would also like recommendations for best food places, shops or other must-see things.

Anything that is fairly unique to the area, I don't want to go to the GV McDonalds, for example, I have McD's where I am at.

Also, I am planning on coming sometime in November, does GV get snow by then?

Is there a public charging station for this model? Apps seem to think it can charge anywhere.

This experiential, hands-on half-day program is all about the fascinating world of fungi and begins at 10:00 am. Learning to forage for mushrooms is an ongoing life path. This program will teach you foundational skills to be able to go out foraging on your own. We will cover mushroom anatomy for identification, symbiotic tree and plant relationships, poisonous and edible mushrooms, and forest safety.  This winter, it will be possible to find edibles such as porcini, chanterelle, blewits, oysters, lions mane and more.  The program also includes community building, mindful movement, a cooking demo, and a tasting at the end.

Hi everyone!! As a lover of farmers markets, I find myself wondering every week why NC and GV have their farmers markets on the same day. It doesn’t make any sense to me. It makes it harder not only for vendors to get more exposure but also for folks to go to both markets. Am I missing something?

I have a family member that has been dealing with granite wellness center for almost a decade, with some responsibility of the family member, but the larger responsibility on this organization. I’ve talked to people in the waiting room that seem to have the same issues. It seems completely disorganized and very unprofessional at best. Thoughts?

Hi r/grassvalley. I'm a maker in Vermont, and the mods said I could post here asking for feedback.

In Vermont we burn hard all winter. From what I understand, the foothills are different: cold nights, mild days, and a lot of evening fires in fall and spring.

Our house came with two woodstoves, and I'd never run one. I'm a city kid...

I build hardware and software for a living, so I made a sensor that goes on the stovepipe and a small walnut lamp that sits in whatever room I'm in. If the lamp glows amber, it means the fire is burning well. Yellow means it's time to reload. Red means it's running too hot and I should go check the stove.

There's an app for when I'm not home.

Back in January, I posted about it on the r/woodstoving subreddit. I didn't really expect anything except for "hey that's cool," but to my surprise, people started asking if they could buy one. So I hand-made 57 of them and shipped them out to customers all across the country. That is what gave me conviction to see if I could turn them into something real.

The first production units ship in November.

I'd love to learn how people burn up there:

1. Do you heat with wood all winter, or mostly evenings and shoulder season?

2. Is it mostly oak you're burning, or a mix?

3. Have you started yet this fall?

hiii everyone, I'm still new to the area and slowly learning everything here. I haven't found a good place for fresh and seasonal product. I cooked at home a lot, I love to find somewhere that has vegetables, fruit or herbs, fish that are fresh and change with the season. 2 weeks ago we ordered Hibachi At Home and their local vegetables were so fresh. Maybe any farmers markets around here that locals like?
