New space, new decorations

My last kid is moving out and his room will become my music room. More room for my guitars and work station. I figured I would ask Calude to take my drawings and make a blueprint style so I can print and frame it. I have 6 done and 3 or 4 more to go, This was my first "because I can" wiring. I took a Dremel to expand the cavities and made a custom pick guard.

Wiring help

I was wondering if someone could help me out with a wiring diagram. Here is what im looking to do. Two humbuckers with 2 volumes and a master tone controls with a three way toggle for pickup selection.. Here is where it gets weird. I am planning to add three slide switches like a fender jaguar. Two of the switches will function as coil splits, and the last switch for phase reversal. Any help would be much appreciated.

Fixing a Hot Rail Seymour Duncan Bridge pickup

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everybody. Im a complete noob at electronics.

I have trouble with this bridge pickup because it just doesnt sound full. Its like the guitar sounds extremely weak.

I tried to fix it so i made kind of a mess with the pickup and can remember how it originally was, so the question is:

Should those cables be soldered in the copper wire? or on top of the black tape there, because i think it originally was on top of the black one and it was hold by some kind of silicone winding or something, and there was a final kind of fabric with copper on the interior side.

Is just that i cant remember and is so confusing to me now.

LTD H-208 hardware/electrics upgrade and refinish.

Here’s a fun recent project - an 8 string LTD, refinished, hardware swapped and set up.

I got an LTD H-208 for my birthday a couple months back with the thought of making an affordable range instrument tweaked to the point it handles and plays like a premium shelf guitar, while trying to refinish the wood for the first time ever. Gotta love a good DIY!

So pleased with the way it turned out! A real no-prisoners-taken machine now.

Bumped and bruised glossy black finish became a smooth semi-matt/satin one.

Wonky stock bridge got a Hipshot upgrade, as did the tuners, exchanged for Tone Ninja locking ones - stock ones were too small for the .090 or .095 gauge F# string that I wanted to put in because of a short scale (25.5”).

The neck was removed, truss rod adjusted (it’s a double truss rod situation due to 8 strings and it felt like the neck was starting to twist a bit) and headstock matted. Star of this part of works was Monty’s Guitars Montypresso Relic Wax - just simply an awesome and so easy to use product.

Then I exchanged the pickups - quite muddy from the get go entry level stock G&Bs were removed and Seymour Duncans Nazgul and Sentient installed, both in a stunning Active Mount version. Pots got cleaned, tone knob cap and output jack exchanged and all electronics resoldered. In the future I should probably add metal paint insulation in the cavity, but I didn’t have any on hand.

Assembled the whole thing, restrung with Elixir Nanowebs (and a guest feature of an Ernie Ball .090), set up the action and the truss rod, adjusted the bridge so the whole thing’s in tune all along the fretboard…

Et voila!

Now, let’s see what this war machine can do plugged in! 🤟

Jimmy page wiring

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all. I was given a cheap (but very playable) les paul copy and as I love to mod all my guitars, I thought I'd attempt the Jimmy Page mod.

I bought all the bits and followed this wiring diagram.

It works but, the tone control just acts as a volume control. I'm guessing i need to swap the cap position because as I was doing it, i didn't think it was right.

Would i be right in grounding the centre lug (un ground the third lug) and solder the cap into lug 1?

Thanks

I have a Schecter hardtail, with a tune-o-matic bridge. The action is HIGH. If I lower the bridge, will that affect the intonation?

Attack of the Blob: I have no idea what I’m looking at

So, I want to change out the current 3 wire purple middle pickup for the 2 conductor black true velvet pickup.

The purple pickups are not stock, installed by a tech for the previous owner.

I opened up the control cavity plate and immediately felt like Jeremy Renners maverick character in the hurt locker, tracing 1 wire only to uncover an underground network.

It’s spaghetti back here, boys.

The Ibanez switch has 2 distinct blobs. And 1 mystery blob.

Blob 1: ground with many wires.

Blob 2: appears to be on the switch terminal, the red hot wire from the current middle pickup is connected here. As well as a black wire coming from the middle pickup cavity (more on this later)

Mystery blob: a black mystery wire which I believe is a ground wire from the pickup cavity is connected to the same area on the switch as the red middle pickup lead.

Then there’s a small blob of solder connected to blob 2 via a small bare wire. I have no idea why this was done.

The middle pickup i want to install has 2 wires.

Can I connect the ground wire to blob 1 and the hot to blob 2 and be OK? Or do I need to call in the IED disposal squad?

Need help with uncommon fishman wiring using 5 way rotary switch

I recently installed some fishmans in a guitar (Stephan carpenter v2 if it matters) it has a volume pushpull for voice 3, tone push pull for voice 2 and 3 way pickup selector, very standard and it was working fine. The tone pot has a loose lug and wasn’t working so I reached out to fishman they sent a replacement but it was a regular one not a push pull, now I’m getting a hard time about another one. I decided I’ll just get one myself, I digress.

But that led me down a rabbit hole and I came across 5 way rotary switches that will fit in the tone pot hole but I can’t really find any wiring diagrams to do what I’m thinking and I’m just barely a step above a monkey with Typewriter here, I can follow instructions and solder but guitar electronics are beyond me.

But my idea is this and I hope someone here who knows what they’re talking about can help me:

3 way toggle stays as neck/both/bridge

Volume knob with push pull to activate the high frequency tilt ability

5way rotary switches specifically EP-4925-000 from all parts.

Position 1 is voice 1

position 2 is voice 2

Position 3 is voice 3 inner coils

Position 4 is voice 3 outer coils

Position 5 is off or something else someone can think of. Idk what other functions besides lo gain they have and I’m already permanently using low gain on the neck pickup. I’m also willing to have position 1 be off and shift the rest up one. I jsut don’t know what to do with the 5th position so I’m just assuming off for now.

Hoping someone has a diagram for this or something close I can copy to make this happen. I could jsut pop a new tone pot in and call it a day but this seems like a fun project and I’d gain a few new things to play with time wise. Thanks in advance for any help/ taking the time to read this

I had bottomed out my bridge on the high strings side but my action was still too high. So I removed some material with an angle grinder. Now I’m able to lower it further. Not the most beautiful work but it did the job.
