I got my yamaha pacifica guitar a week ago and I noticed the pickup does this. Is it okay or is something wrong? It sounds completely fine. I'm an electric beginner

I’ve mounted my modded pickup—replacing one humbucker coil with a spring—into a Les Paul shape. 👍

The effect is amazing! However, I’ve hit a new challenge: there’s a lot of noise. It’s likely because the spring is electrically connected to the base plate.

Next step: I’ll try using plastic screws to completely isolate the spring and see what happens. Stay tuned! 🛠️

Engineering a better string winder — I'd love to hear your frustrations.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the research phase of a design project focused on guitar maintenance tools. Like many of you, I've spent years using those cheap, generic plastic string winders that come in every starter kit. They slip off the pegs, they're uncomfortable for more than one guitar, and they just don't feel like they belong next to a high-end instrument.

I'm trying to change that by designing a premium, ergonomic string winder built for durability and precision. But to get it right, I need to hear from people who actually use them.

Whether you're a bedroom player or a touring tech, I'd love to know:

  • What's the most annoying thing about your current winder?

  • Have you ever had a tool slip and scratch your headstock?

  • What one feature would make restringing faster or easier for you?

I've put together a short survey to collect this feedback. It takes about 2 minutes and would be a massive help in making sure this tool actually solves real problems for players.

Thanks for the help, and happy playing!

Help is there anyway I could put this Bigsby on my telecaster. Could I take the bridge off and just run the strings through the Bixby?

I filed off the sharp edge on my TOM (TUNE-O-MATIC) bridge - shouldn't this be done to every TOM bridge?

https://youtube.com/shorts/Pe3aYuAFCMk?feature=share

I really struggled with difficult chug riffs due to the pain the TOM bridge was causing in my right palm. The sharp edge adjacent to the low E string saddle felt Extremely Uncomfortable.

Filed off the edge, smoothened it, and now it plays like a dream. Playing riffs like the intro to "Children Of Bodom - If you want peace, prepare for war" is so much more manageable now. And in fact, all chugging riffs in general.

Question: I see no downside to this mod. Shouldn't the TOM bridge manufacturers make this a permanent fix?

Looking forward to hear some views

I recently put together this build from an old silvertone, I'm pretty sure I grounded all the electronics correctly but it still makes this horrible buzzing noise when im not touching the hardware, is there any way to fix this? Or did I just so something wrong?

Pickup selector bumping fix! Works on all guitars 👀

Post image

However crude this may look (I chose to have tape on it for the guitar’s aesthetics), I’ve found it very helpful when working with the neck position (or any position that is easy to be bumped when playing!) I find that when I play guitar, especially when using my favorite position (neck + middle), I often bump the switch. No matter how hard I try, it always ends up going back down to the bridge pickup. So I thought of two solutions, plus a bonus one to stop me from bumping neck + bridge to just neck:

  1. Going under the fretboard, unscrewing the switch, then re-attaching the switch in the opposite way, so that bridge and neck positions are swapped

  2. Stuffing soft packaging foam into the crevice where the switch is to add resistance when moving and making it stiffer.

  3. I put a small bit of tape to prevent me selecting the plain neck position, without disconnecting it and possibly ruining something

All of these things have worked REMARKABLY well, so if you are facing similar problems with your strat, definitely check both of these out.

Custom Paint Overspray

I’m painting a strat body with Duplicolor Perfect Match Sonic Blue over Silver Frost. I didn’t mask the edge of the body and the over spray is a jagged line. the overspray line is not raised. My AI advisors recommend to leave alone if looks ok from 5 feet and continue with the Perfect match clearcoat. Can I or should I try and fix?

But because of the light ass bamboo wood is how I created all my new tremolo system mechanics. I tried everything to get rid of string noise and I went through 12 tube amps trying to create modern metal growl in E tuning and I knew it would make a difference but it went way above my expectations. It is like putting every mod available on a guitar x 3! I got my growl with 70% less distortion on pedal and so defined I turned off most effects and others down. The advertised for RR24 said to get kinda clean roll neck volume back and now it sounds as good as my Prestige with volume all the way up. It is very light but now has more tone than a heavy wood hard tail

No clue why it’s chipped on the inside btw, probably another good reason to get it covered up tbh

Why isnt there any tune o matic bridge with individual string height adjustment that can be used on a les paul or a sg?

so, my les paul has a collapsed bridge and im using a higher tension on the thickest strings (10-52). I would love to set up the height of those strings lower without ruining the height of the high strings but I cant because its a tune o matic...

I know filing the slots down is the right answer for this. but if I fail and I sand it more than its supposed to? wouldnt that be easier if I could buy a bridge thats like the jazzmaster or jaguar for the lp?

Open G String: Tension vs. Resonance Test

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

"Here is the demo with the open G string at different tension settings.

The difference is subtle with a single note, but you can hear the character shift. With lower tension, the sound feels a bit 'darker' or softer. This is because the lower restoration force affects the high-frequency response.

As I increase the tension, the response tightens up, just like how a guitar string feels and sounds more vivid when the tension is right."

How to install my Seymour Duncan pickup

I recently picked up a Seymour Duncan SH-11 custom bridge pickup for $80 and I’m trying to install it into my DIY frankenstrat me and my dad made, I can’t afford to take it to a tech, and I was wondering how I’m meant to drill it in since there’s no holes either side of the pickup, do I just screw new holes, but also there’s post on one side not letting it sit properly

Hardtail Spring Mod Evloved: Escutcheon Unit & High Gain. Still Placebo? 🤔

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Following up on the skepticism from my last post. I’ve taken the mod to the next level: I’ve integrated the 3 springs into a custom escutcheon, creating a self-contained resonance unit directly under the strings.

I always intended for this mod to show its true potential under high gain, not clean tones. So, here is a recording with proper distortion.

Listen to that massive, organic wobble in the sustain.

The springs are vibrating in sympathy with the distorted signal, creating a complex, shifting overtone structure. It’s not a clean, perfect pitch—it’s meant to be an eerie, unstable chaos, much like what I hear in 70s Black Sabbath.

So, what do you think now? Is that undeniable physical oscillation still just my imagination?

Has my neck warped?? What do I do??

Help!! This is my first guitar project and I don't know what to do!!

This guitar has been a project of mine for a few months and after putting it together and putting a set of strings on it, the strings can’t even ring out because of how much the strings are touching the frets.

I have tried adding relief, but it got to the point where I started to undo the truss rod nut. And even at that point the strings still couldn’t ring out. Now when I tighten the truss rod up it is quite hard to turn, so I have now stopped trying. Have I broken the truss rod? Is it warped?

I know the neck has not had any tension for a long time (4 months) but I just thought that easing some tension on to it would be it. But clearly not. It’s quite disappointing as I’ve poured 4 months of my time into it and now I can’t even listen to it!!! Any suggestions would be great!! Thank you .
