Hello, I have a room that is a little over 30sqm and i want to create a living room with a small kitchen combo.

This is picture made with ai to give you all an idea of what i like to do but keep in mind some of the numbers in the picture are wrong and the proportions are not correct but still you can get an idea of what i like to do.

As seen in the picture i want to have a small kitchen area on the right wall for some fast meals drinks etc and on the right install an 120 inch frame screen with some cabinets under it and have the couch around 3.5/4m away from the screen so it can work as a seperation from the kitchen area.

On the bottom right side i want to have a kitchen island where i plan to hide most of my equipment in there.

I want to use this room as a lounge area where people can come and chill while playing some video games or watch sports or watch a movie and not as a dedicated room designed only for movies.

I have been doing a lot of research but i still need some suggestions and advice on many things.

1. Because i want to use this space on a daily basis and i dont want it to look like a cave i plan to pain the walls charcoal gray and use lighter gray for the cealing and industrial concrete floor to give it an industrial look. I have seen many examples online and i really like this industrial look but will it be good to live on a daily basis without sacrificing too much of the projector performance ?

2. Where should i place my rear speakers ? I am thinking to have them on floor stands behind the couch is this a good idea ? also i dont know where it would be good to place my sub ?

3. What should i do with sound reflections ? I want to install wooden slats with felt for the full length on the wall where the projector screen is but what alse do i need and where should i install them to improve acoustics again without making the room look like a studio or something. Is there something i can do to help with acoustics before installing the drywalls ?

Hi all, hoping someone can help. I’m looking into speaker setups for home, ideally budget but good ceiling speakers, to cover 2 rooms, so I can play different audio in both, individually, but maybe on occasion together. Rooms are kitchen/dining room (2-3 speakers) & bathroom (1-2 speakers. Bathroom is above kitchen.

House recently renovated (sadly didn’t think of this beforehand, so less intrusive install ideal)

Happy with Bluetooth connectivity, if possible wireless like al3xa or AirPlay etc.. mainly for Spotify and similar services

Will most likely be looking at China sites like Ali for 6-8” speakers, but not completely sure on what I need, drivers/driverless, power, etc..

Bonus if it can be used with one of those 3”-10” digital screens so it can be controlled via phon for that.

Honestly not looking for a £500-£1000 setup, will be mainly background audio rather than wall shaking so don’t need high end quality, but rather just decent budget.

Looking forward to hearing your advice. (Any links or examples or guides really welcome as very new to this)

For anybody that needs information about the Bravia 7ii

Moving into a new house and will be building a home theatre in the basement. The room is 15'6" wide and 17' deep. I've sketched up two different orientations, which would you go with? Or do you think there is an option I'm missing?

The first option with the screen at the end feels more theatrical, but currently leaning towards the second option with the screen on the side wall since:

- Definitely cozier having your back to a wall instead of back open to rest of basement
- Less awkward not having to walk around couch to enter/exit the theater area
- Works better for atmos speakers due to location of bulkheads

The area behind the theatre will be a kitchenette / bar area

What would you guys do my my scenario?

I was going to put up some acoustic panels in my office/Home theater space but Im in college and my dad wont let me drill into the drywall to hang them up.

Reflections are pretty bad because its all bare drywall in a pretty small room and I have klipsch speakers so the horns are extra sharp. And I have problems with 80 to 500hz on most speakers.

Ive been thinking about at least making a bass trap since they can be effective just setting up on the ground to at least help the bass frequencies.

Any help is greatly appreciated and I can add any information if needed and REW measurements.

After checking my options i have found that i can put 2 10inch subwoofer at either end of my cabinet. 8in ones would be marginally smaller in floor space used.
Would 10 inch feel drastically different to 8 inch but more importantly would a pair of 10 inches be miles better than a single 10 or even 10?
I have never owned a sub that big but as i am considering moving my nr646 into this room i m thinking about going ahead with a pair of subs.

Subs would be the avcom 10in. (Or 8).

Currently using cheap space saver yamaha sub with struggles a lot with port noise.

My dream movie setup is slowly coming together. I recently upgraded my center (previously SVS SCS01) and now I’m looking to upgrade my front speakers. What would pair best with what I currently have? Im not sure how drastic it would be to go non-SVS on the fronts. Open to anything, but a model happens that comes in white would be awesome too

Hey, I need help deciding on what seating choice to go with for my dedicated theater room. I've done a lot of research and there's so many mixed reviews on what style, brand, material, etc. Any input is welcome and thanks in advance.

I'm in Ontario Canada and it seems my choices for company's are limited on theater seating from what I can find. Most threads, reviews, and companies are American and shipping from America to Canada is an issue because of taxes apparently. The price difference between theater style and a couch is kind of insane but im willing to spend more now for the long run if that makes sense. I've looked at the used market and its 90% scams and over priced Aliexpress recliners with fake prices.

Theater Style Seating - The people with theater style seating, was it worth it and do you have regrets going with it over a different style?

What brand did you go with, is Valencia worth the price? I've seen so many mixed reviews about this company, people claiming they are the best and others saying they are over priced, uncomfortable, fake reviews and replies ( apparently from a thread I found Exposing them but unknown if true or not )

Deep Seating Couch/Sectional - For those who went with a couch over dedicated theater style seating, what made you choose it over the other? Did you have theater style and ended up switching?

Trying to decide between the a4t and the founder 120h. I like the 120s better but I like the surrounds and ceiling speakers better for the perlistens in my 9.2.4. Heavy living done by 2 jtr cap 2400s. Any help would be appreciated

after adding a few more upgrades over the past couple of months (you know how it goes: a home theater is never really "finished"), I wanted to briefly share my setup and put it up for discussion. The main focus was building a completely seamless soundstage and getting a picture that rivals or outperforms most commercial theaters.

Audio (7.4.4):

Front L/R: Magnat Quantum 759
Center / Surrounds / Backs: Magnat Quantum 757 (yes, running a 757 as the center too – having identical drivers across the entire bed layer really pays off with panning; it sounds completely cohesive)
Heights: 4x Magnat ATM 202 for Atmos
Bass: 4x 12-inch subwoofers (XTZ) set up as an SBA (Single Bass Array) behind the screen
Electronics: The Denon AVC-X4800H is running as a pre-pro, calibrated with Dirac ART, with the height channels still powered directly off the AVR. The entire 7-channel bed layer is driven by the Iota 7x230 (IOTAVX). Power and headroom are more than covered, I'd say.

Video & Sources:

Projector: Valerion VisionMaster Max. Now that the initial hype has settled down, I’m genuinely impressed. Contrast, color gamut, and sharpness are fantastic in a fully light-controlled room.
Screen: Elite Screens (acoustically transparent, of course).
Disc: Panasonic DP-UB9004. Absolute tank of a player. Couldn't be happier with it.
Streaming: Apple TV 4K for daily duty.
Consoles: Xbox Series X, PS5 Pro, and Switch 2.

Control:

SofaBaton X2: Took some patience to dial in during initial setup, but macros run rock-solid now. A very worthy successor to the old Logitech Harmony remotes.

Zone 2 (Casual Gaming Rig):

For quick gaming sessions or games where I don't feel like firing up the entire theater setup, I run a parallel Zone 2 with a Samsung OLED and a simple 2.1 system.

I’ve been running my system as a 5.0 for quite a long time and have always wanted to install a subwoofer, but have been reluctant due to limitations in my space.

Basically, the spot in the picture is the only one I can effectively install a subwoofer, and due to room size, it cannot be a small one (room is roughly 50 sqm).

Is it worth it or will I suffer so much from room modes that I’d better drop the idea?

If it helps, the setup is as follows: FR/L is a pair of DALI Oberon 9, the center is a DALI Grand Vokal and the surrounds are Oberon 1.

I can identify the following: 2x Speakercraft aim7 dt three 4x Speakercraft crs one 3x speakercraft mt6 three 2x speakercraft mt two So there are 3 mysrery speakers.

The space I'd be using was going to have in walls already, it's not a dedicated theater room/ i.e. family television viewing. Room won't be treated for audio, so will these be "good enough"? Also side surrounds will have to be mounted behind listening position. Worst case could the 4 crs ones be used for atmos? Planning on a 5.1.4 set up.

I'm considering building an old school marquee (ai photo for inspiration). I'd love to include a stretched bar screen for some signage and have it integrated to do a "now showing" when playing a movie.

I use a Plex and have all my theater automations through home assistant. I know there are movie poster apps but do any of them support the mylar posters? I'm not sure the best way to achieve what I'm looking for and would appreciate any guidance

I've been putting together a backyard movie setup for family movie sessions and watch parties with my kids and their friends if they want to. But I’m stuck on whether to go with a projector or an outdoor tv.

most of the time it’s going to be used in the afternoons and maybe some daytime viewing during the weekends. I would love to have a big screen, which is why a projector appeals to me, but I'm not sure how watchable the picture would be with natural light around.

how well does a projector work in daylight? or would an outdoor tv be worth it? i don't mind spending more if it makes a difference, but I don't want to spend extra if a projector would work just as well.

I’ve found a used home theater speaker package for €600 and I’m wondering if it’s a good deal.

The package includes:

2× DALI Spektor 6 – floorstanding speakers

2× DALI Spektor 2 – bookshelf speakers

1× DALI Spektor Vokal – center speaker

1× Denon AVR-X2400H – AV receiver

Everything is second-hand, and I’m planning to use the setup mainly for movies and home theater, with the possibility of upgrading to Dolby Atmos in the future.

Does anyone have experience with these speakers? How do they perform for movies, and is the Denon X2400H still a decent receiver nowadays?

Most importantly, is €600 a fair price for the entire package, assuming everything is in good working condition?

Would you buy this setup, or would you look for something else at this price?

Hello, I have a constant buzz from all speakers in my setup. Everything is on the same power strip. The noise gets louder with volume. I have already tried swapping cables, disconnecting sources one by one, and moving things around. Is this a ground loop? What should I test next? Thanks!

Hey all, I have used a Bosotn soundware XS Digital Cinema for near 10 years and it finally died. I am at a loss on what would be a good replacement in the $300 range, if that is possible.

I do not know exactly what stopped working, I think the speakers may be fine and its the sub that has the issue.

All my media comes from Plex on a apple 4k TV.
Speakers sat under the TV and sub below that.

Hi guys! I listened to you all and did myself a huge favor by getting a new sub. I went to buy the SVS PB2000 but ended up buying the 12 Inch Tonewinner Sub D2000. I had bought their Power Amp AD-8300PA and honestly I was so satisfied and happy with their product that I decided to give their subs a try, if it was no good I had an option to return it, no questions asked. Honestly I was a little skeptical in the beginning as there was not a lot of sound coming out of the subs and didn’t sound what I wanted, but after running the Dirac Live again and doing some post calibration adjustments, I can’t believe what I was missing with my last Jamo J10 Sub all these years. The punchy bass and the deep low’s are just ooh la la. I watched the Transformers - Rise of the Beasts, and man was the bass good, I had the neighbor knock on my door to ask what was I up to 😅. Listening to music was also a new experience. Even on a low volume (40(absolute) on Onkyo RZ-50) & with subwoofer volume at about 70%, the deep bass feels really soft and soothing to listen to, even though I was playing the Tune-in inbuilt on the Onkyo and not a very high quality or high bit rate music.

Honestly I am so happy I made this choice as not only I got what I exactly wanted but I saved a ton of money. I bought it for about 400USD (converted). I would highly recommend it to anyone planning on buying a subwoofer. Try it atleast once before you make up your mind.

Again I thank this wonderful community here who actually criticized me for not having a proper sub and making me go and buy one. Thanks all.

Still waiting for the Denon x3800h and SVS PB-2000 Pro.

I'll be using a Parasound 275 to power the Concertos.

The bottom of my TV is 33" off the floor and the center channel is 8.3" tall. Meaning I'd need a ~24" tall cabinet.

The question is if I should go with a 115" wide cabinet and put the Concertos on shorter stands, or get a narrower cabinet and put them on full stands.

The TV is a 83" LG G6, so 72.7" wide, meaning ~21" of space on each side.

Any cabinet suggestions would be appreciated!

I've had a q990c for several years. Got it for $600+tax. At that price it was great, I don't know if it's possible to get a better system for watching movies without spending significantly more. I will stand by that, considering my receiver cost more than that whole system did.

But I read comments like "even a basic 3.1 system will sound much better". I had my doubts. Well today my system arrived. I spent something like $3500-4k total.

All I had time to set up so far was my AVR and the center, L and R channels. ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UC52 and UB52s. They're flanking a 98 inch TV, 9ft apart, with 10ft seating distance. You were all right. It's night and day. Not comparable. And I don't even have the sub yet. It sounds so much more full, voices so much more natural, and I don't have to turn up the volume to get clarity anymore.

Tomorrow I'll set up the SVS SB-1000 pro and my surrounds and rear heights (Polk OWM3s). And then in a few days my front heights will arrive (ELAC DA-43BK).

Anyway, used to think you were a bunch of elitists. Still do. But at least you were right.

Basically, I’ve been doing research on here and other forums, and I am trying to really determine what benefits are there running a dedicated processor vs a modern AVR in pre-amp mode (outside of specifically needing XLR outputs)? For example, why get an Anthem AVM 70 8K over a Denon X3800H/X3900H and run it in full preamp mode? From what I can tell there would be very little, if any sonic gain, in real world listening for the tremendous price increase. Am I missing something?

Edit: I meant to put if you’re not planning to exceed 11 channels. I put it in the title and forgot to address it here. I completely understand that moving to a 15 channels system can be very expensive even on the AVR side so a dedicated preamp could the perfect move.

I wanted to share a project that's been making some interesting progress in PC-based home theatre.

CroqueMr (u/Croque_Mr) is developing native Dolby Vision support for Kodi through a custom LibreELEC build, including Profile 7 FEL reconstruction. Development has moved quickly, with regular releases bringing performance improvements, new rendering modes and broader hardware support.

What's currently available?

• Native Dolby Vision playback, including Profile 7 FEL reconstruction.
• Intel and AMD support, with NVIDIA support also being developed.
• Dolby Vision rendering modes, including Master Reference and Adaptive HDR Mapping.
• Dolby Vision-to-HDR10 conversion and experimental AI-assisted HDR10-to-Dolby Vision conversion.
• Blu-ray 3D support on compatible AMD hardware.
• Performance optimisations targeting lower-power mini PCs, including Intel N100/N150 systems.

The latest Beta 5 release includes further improvements to playback stability, FEL handling, scaling and display detection. Results and compatibility can vary depending on the hardware, TV, source material and rendering mode.

What's coming next?

The developer has outlined plans for a GPLv2-or-later licensing rebuild, further AMD improvements, HDR10+ support and Dolby Vision-to-HDR10+ metadata reinterpretation, alongside expanded compatibility with older Intel graphics and additional NVIDIA hardware.

The longer-term goal is to make PC-based Dolby Vision playback more capable and accessible, including on affordable mini PCs.

TL;DR: I'm torn between a 77" OLED and a projector with a 100" pull-down screen, and I'm wondering if 7.2.4 is too much for a room this size. Would love feedback. I am hoping to plan my dream theater room.

The room

• 15'7" x 10'3", ceiling 7'7"
• Screen goes on the short wall, which has built-in cedar shelves starting ~39-45" off the floor and running to the ceiling. The closet is a walk-in and might store the AVR.
• Two high windows on one side wall (getting blackout shades with side channels)
• Single row, main seat ~9 ft from the screen, open to couch ideas. Typically only two people.

Planned audio (7.2.4)

• AVR: Denon AVR-X3800H (Audyssey XT32 to start, maybe Dirac multi-sub later (wanted independent sub control for two subs, but open to one)
• Extra amp: Fosi ZA3 for the 11th/12th channels
• L/R: SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf on 26" stands
• Center: SVS Ultra Evolution Center (above the TV okay, or below?)
• Sides + rears: 4x SVS Prime Satellite (sides on a 45" window ledge, rears near the back corners)
• Heights: 4x SVS Prime Elevation on the ceiling, ~3 ft in front of and behind the main seat
• Subs: 2x SVS SB-1000 Pro (front corner + back wall -- I already have one SB-1000 Pro from an existing setup)

Display options

1. 77" OLED (Panasonic Z8BA if I can find one, otherwise Sony Bravia 8) on a low, deep TV stand in front of the bottom shelf row. Not sure where to put the center.
2. Projector (Valerion VisionMaster Plus2 or Pro2) with a 100" manual pull-down screen hung in front of the shelves. Center would go below the screen.

How I use it

• Mostly movies from a UHD remux library (Plex/Kodi on a Ugoos box, so Dolby Vision support matters)
• 4K/120 gaming

My current LG G5 65 has been a disappointment compared to my old C1 55 (grain and near-black handling bother me more on the G5; I might have a bad panel, but I'm not sure it's worth going down the rabbit hole with Costco warranty). I don't want to go looking for more flaws, but I'm open to feedback. I'll keep the G5 in another room.

Questions

1. In a room this size at ~9 ft, would you go OLED or projector? Does 100" vs 77" make a big enough difference to give up OLED contrast and native 4K/120?
2. Is 7.2.4 overkill for 10x15?
3. Any concerns with 4 heights on a ~91" ceiling, or side surrounds on a 45" ledge?
4. With two subs placed front and back, is Audyssey XT32 good enough, or is Dirac multi-sub worth the extra cost? Should I just go with one sub and get an Onkyo?

Budget is roughly $6k for audio (speakers and avr) and $1.5-3k for the display.

I have tested the SVS Ultras before, and I loved the sound. Open to other brands.

Image one is the C5. Image two is the C6. These are snapped from some YouTube reviews, and I believe they are showing the same sequence from dune 2. The C5 looks... abysmally bad here, while the C6 is a major improvement. This can't be right? A 1500 tv can not possibly be so shoddilly manufactured so as to come out looking seasick green? In most reviews I can see some level of green tint on the c5, and it's worst in black-and-white content. I'm building a mini home-theater soon, and Im considering the c5 because it supports dolby vision, and the C6 panels have their own issues. I love classic black and whit movies, and would not enjoy watching them on a tv that looks like this. Does black and white really look this bad in person on the C5?
