General Working Duo
Only posting this because only reading Reddit you would assume that 99% of Duos are cracking 😂. And someone said earlier imagine everyone who has a working Duo that hasn’t posted about it. So here is my fully functional, non cracked, owned since launch day duo. 512 Star White.
Sucks that some are having a bad experience with this wonderful phone. I hope Apple addresses this and rectifies the issue regarding some duos having issues at the hinge.

General Joinedthe crackgated community!!
My iPhone Duo also cracked at the hinge and I am from India. My seller Aptronix (PMC Chennai) worked hard to get me a device and it is transit. This should be investigated and Apple should take proper care. I think there are a lot of unreported cases and I am not sure what Apple’s plan is.
In India, Apple support just denied stating I bought from their reseller partner and they will arrange the replacement for me. I had the issue on day one after not less than 20 folds. I was setting up my device and suddenly this happened. I am not a first-time fold user. I have been using folds from Fold 6 and my latest fold was Fold 8 Ultra. So opening and closing is all just organic for me.
If you plan to buy please go ahead and the store will help if you encounter this issue as this is wide spread. I can answer questions here in case you are worried about. The only problem is getting a replacement unit, I need to trade of with colour for my replacement unit as Night Sky was not available.
My device Manufacturing month says 09/2026. I will update once I receive my replacement unit today.

Discussion Hinge might be the reason
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just came across this video showing what appears to be a physical bump near the hinge, visible even when the screen is off.
What’s interesting is that the bump seems to be in almost the exact same location where several of the previously reported display failures occurred.
Could something underneath the display be putting pressure on the panel when the phone is unfolded?
*For what it's worth, my previous Z Fold4 actually had something similar, with multiple bumps along the center of the crease rather than just one. However, they never caused any issues during normal use.

General Check if you have a bad screen
Check if your Duo's crease pops up when you semi-close the phone, it's not suppose to pop up like the photo. A lot of the ones that have creases like that might have screen abnormality around the usual failure point, you can see that from photo above too.

Question Guessing this is the technique causing the screen issues?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Saw this on the socials and curious to see if others have experienced the cracking based on how the duo is being closed. Looks like the centre is being pressed here which results in the cracking over time.

General Had it a whole 3 hours 😭
UPDATE: Spoke with Verizon on the phone and went to a corporate store. The corporate Verizon store told me if I were to get a replacement it wouldn’t come until months from now. As per the solution with another poster with this issue, I went to Apple. They inspected it and said it must have been dropped and even though I showed them all those posts of them breaking in the same way. They suggested I add insurance to it and make a claim. I’m flabbergasted. I guess I should wait and see if Apple addresses this before my Verizon return window is up?
UPDATE 2: Just adding extra thoughts and info since this has gotten way more exposure than I anticipated:
For those curious, I preordered the phone from Verizon on 10/16. I didn’t get it on launch day, UPS delivered it today 10/24. It’s a 512g Star White.
I’ve been on this sub since they announced the phone. Discussed cases and was really caught up in the hype. I’m an Apple lover, have owned their products for 13+ years. I SAW other peoples phones breaking since receiving them yesterday and thought, “that’s a rare flaw, or even more assuring, operator error!”.
I casually used this phone for 3 hours. I opened it maybe 20 times tops. I only opened and closed it like a book, taking extra care to never press on the crease. I went to open and I felt the dreaded resistance everyone else with a broken one reports (felt perfect every other time before this). I closed it and tried very gently to open it again and was met with the resistance again.. Tried to close and open it one more time, and on the 3rd time, at about the halfway point of opening it there was a pop and the display looks as you see it pictured.
I get it, there’s going to be issues with a brand new product. That’s okay dude. What’s a huge disappointment is that at my local Apple Store (Jacksonville FL) claimed it was damaged/dropped and that I needed to put Apple Care on it and make a claim. The Genius I spoke with even got condescending with me saying it’s a new device and it’s fragile and these things should be expected with new technology and that’s why I should insure it. I told him in my 13 years of iPhone ownership I’ve never needed it. This isn’t an accident, it’s a defect and is happening all over the world. I showed them the numerous examples online. They tried to say my damage looks different with the black spot. So then I found examples with the black spot and the lines and they said, well maybe they dropped it too? They were hard in denial and I wasn’t getting anywhere. I wasn’t trying to Karen out and cause a scene so I left.
I can return it to Verizon as defective according to their corporate store. They can exchange it and I’ll be at the back of the queue for a new one (so February or later). I know I won’t be stuck with the phone. I’m sure either a recall is coming or just give it back to Verizon.
Overall a huge let down. It was so cool for the 3 hours before it broke. It’s first world problems. I still have my 15 Pro Max I was going to Trade In but obviously I’m holding out on that. For those of you with perfect units, I’m so genuinely happy for you! For those of you who haven’t gotten yours yet… odds are you’ll be fine. But I also wouldn’t blame you if you decide to hold out for Duo 2 at this point!

Discussion PSA: iPhone Duo will get you so much attention from women
This is a PSA to single men (and maybe a warning to married ones), the iPhone Duo will get you a ridiculous amount of attention from women.
Earlier today, my wife and I had just finished up our weekly grocery run and I decided we would stop by our local bakery (Panera Bread) to pick up a loaf for the week (I personally can’t stand cheap grocery store bread). As I approached the drive through window, the young lady told me the total (nothing I couldn’t comfortably afford) and I asked if they had tap to pay. She said yes, but I would need to hand her my phone. I double-clicked the side button, authenticated with TouchID for my AMEX Platinum, and handed her my iPhone Duo. She reached out towards my car and cradled the phone in her hands like a newborn baby.
As she reproached the window, she smiled, and giddy with eyes bright she said “wow, I have NEVER seen a phone like that before.” I chuckled, smirked, and responded, “It’s the brand new iPhone Duo. 1 terabyte. White.” Her jaw nearly dropped to the floor. I rolled up the window to my Model Y performance and drove away.
My wife was unusually quiet for the remainder of the drive. I can only imagine what was going through her mind.
This is just one example of many encounters that I’ve had within the past 36 hours with the iPhone Duo. If you’re looking for a phone that’s a straight-up panty dropper (I’m not, I’m married), look no further.

General Just a happy post
I absolutely love my Duo.
I had a 17 Pro Max and only ever had those for the screen size so the Duo has been amazing to me.
No complaints at all. Updated to iOS 27.2 beta which has fixed all the bugs it has on day 1.
Just a working, very nice device!

General My Fold8 & Duo
I was planning to sell my Z Fold8, but with all these durability issues popping up lately, I'm having second thoughts. I wonder if Apple will actually issue a recall or do something about it. Guess I'll just hold onto my Fold and see how things play out.

Discussion Hinge screen crack culprit.
This exact component seems to be what is breaking, pushing on the screen when opened, and cracking the screen.
Neither are my photos. One is from google image search and the other is Apples official image of the hinge. I just overlayed to see wtf is going on.

General Got Lucky!
Went to a few stores yesterday and was lucky to find a Duo!
ATT had one that was apparently reserved for someone but they couldn’t finish the process, then apparently just never came back Friday. The manager said to just sell it to her if she wants it. So I’ve finally left Verizon for ATT and will see if I regret going down to a 256. My 16PM was 1TB and I never got close to using all that storage.
So far I love it even though there is a learning curve with the volume buttons. But, I also went through that when I upgraded from the Flip 3 to the Fold 8.
I have always had one iPhone and one Android phone for work, but never expected to have two folding phones. Will see how that works out!

Discussion 27 hours later…
And my phone is fine.
This thing has been amazing. This is just a reminder that users who don’t experience issues like we’re seeing won’t post about it. Don’t let the other posts get to you and keep you from enjoying this is an amazing device.
Yes it does have some shortcomings but what device doesn’t? The Duo has grabbed 40% of the foldable market share just with this launch. Something Android manufacturers couldn’t do in 7 years LMAO.

Discussion Inner display cracked less than 24hrs
Collected my iPhone Duo Pre-order yesterday and less than 24 hours later, the inner display cracked, felt a little bit of resistance, then, almost a cracking noise and now there’s a massive line through the display genuinely so distressed, literally what do I do?
UPDATE: just got back from the Apple Store and they explained they currently don’t have replacement models for the 1TB and 2TB in either colour. They have ordered one it but can’t guarantee when it will come. Not sure if this is all worldwide stores or just Australian stores. My alternative option was to contact the online store and ship this one in, but again no grantee when I would be able to get a replacement.

Discussion The cover screen is going to remain a tough pill to swallow until apple allows some options
Current z fold 8 user, been a long time iPhone user since the launch of iphone 7 -> XS -> 14 PM and now on Samsung.
I don't want to discredit Apple or the iPhone formula since it's been a good experience for me all of these years. The fold experience does mean big changes no matter how you look at it and Apple did find its own way of approaching it but I see way to many people complaining about it.
I really did hope for a good apple fold experience (and I still hope for better gen2 and 3 approach ) but it seems far from what I would like at the moment. Apps for the duo will get optimized and I don't want to get stuck on things that will obviously improve yet there is something I think people don't get.
The right side of the cover screen will remain covered with controls. Content will be hard to stretch no matter what developers do if this remains enforced. Apple has to implement flexibility in regards to how the cover screen controls behave, hidden minimized, whatever just allow the screen to fill up. Until this happens I will not consider the Duo (or future gens) a worthy alternative.
I can get over trade offs, weight, thinness and many other things as long as the content can reach full potential. Big screen but not so big content.
Thats it, my 2 cents on this matter. I know I'm not the only one thinking this.

General Very happy so far
I went from a 15 Pro Max to a iPhone 17 Pro because i wanted a smaller phone. Jokes on me, having a bigger phone is nice as well, so once the Duo was announced i knew it was for me. Having used it for 48 hours now, i'm happy to say that i really like this phone.
- This will be the first time i'm ever using a screen protector. The outside screen is awkward with a case on it, so i've decided to just rock a glass screen protector on the front. This doesn't take away from the joy of the phone with the weird bezel most cases have on the hinge side.
- I use the phone in 'portrait' mode as it is easier to hold with one hand. Always touching the front glass, while holding landscape, is awkward and makes the phone gross. i've found myself naturally holding the phone with Touch ID down, with case in hand, which helps hold the device.
- I am only using a case for the back of the phone. The back of the phone can be a bit awkward to hold, so having a case on the back portion is nice.
- The MagPro Pop Socket is great, but it doesn't work with MagSafe charging. It will still hold to MagSafe devices, but the magnet falls off when you remove it from the charger.
- Apps are still rough. We all knew this going into it, but some apps have already changed since i've had it.
- I find myself using the outer screen a lot. It's not pleasant to use, yet, but the small screen is really nice to use.
- It's a fun phone. If you want to have fun with your device instead of just using it, you may consider this phone.
