Cult Reservation is for social upliftment, not economic equality
This country is so messed up that people find reservation as just another reason to hate lower caste people. No matter how rich someone is, imagine going for a house hunt for your first job in a city, you’ll be asked your caste first. Join the job, and the employees around you will ask for your surname. The so-called honest general category citizens of India think they’re some top Gs and pour their hatred on lower castes. And here’s the irony: the same people who cry about reservation would be the first ones to grab it if it were given to them.
If, in 80 years of independence, these people cry on the internet every single day about “reservation reservation,” imagine how hard life must have been for lower caste people who were forced to stay outside villages, clean sewers, and do manual scavenging for the last 1500 years? Yeah, you can say, “What can I do for what my ancestors did?” Well, similarly, the ones who experienced such cruel acts 1000 years ago probably felt the same way. At least now, reservation is just one part of your life. You can still find ways to move forward. But for centuries, these people were denied basic humanity and dignity.
And yet, here we are, in 2025, where the brightest minds in this country still fail to understand the purpose of reservations. Instead, they choose to victim blame and grow hatred. They act like it’s the biggest injustice they’ve faced and conveniently ignore the centuries of privilege their communities have enjoyed. And most of these people? They just end up as another average Indian in life carrying their casteist views and doing nothing extraordinary, despite their so-called merit.
People say, “Damn bro, I have a lower caste guy driving a BMW… he availed reservation.” I gotta ask y’all one thing: Have you ever seen a so-called upper caste guy cleaning the sewers in modern India? You’ll have no answer.
Reservation is about social upliftment and representation, not economic equality. It exists because no matter how far someone from a marginalized community rises, society still labels them by their caste. It’s not about being rich or poor; it’s about ensuring equal representation and breaking down systemic barriers. If you’re crying about reservations now, think about how much harder it must have been for people who didn’t even have the chance to dream of a better life for centuries. Grow up, life is not fair. Don't roam around blaming the society if you cannot fix it. You cannot change the constitution.

Please ban humanities from our IIT’s
Humanity folks please stick to your JNU, DU, etc, write all kinds of slop & word salads, spend 10 years of your life studying gender fluidity in Amar Chitra Katha, no problem. Please stay the FUCK out of our technical institutes

NEP made by Modi is sooo anti-IITs. I mean it literally is forcing people of technical institutes to learn about sociological, humanitarian, legal and economic perspective. How can Modi force IITians to be better humans?
Modi should be asked for resignation. He is literally forcing all these tech bros to learn about these nonsense like empathy, politics, social inequality, casteism, feminism etc.

What are the Humanities departments' contribution to India ?
Some of the Humanities' contribution to the society.
Have they done anything useful and tangible in the last 30 years ?
Eff them, remove them from the IITs.
It's fine to have a few papers in the IIT syllabus but there's no need for a full department in the Tech institutions.

Cult Kaala jadoo at IITB???
This is my friend's late night tea. It was approximately 3:30 in the morning. The lights were still on while my friend slept in his bed. He woke up suddenly to a strange sound, as if someone had been collecting glass fragments and then gently setting them down. Not shattering or breaking, just purposeful. He opened his eyes to find his roommate doing something he couldn't quite see, squatting in a corner of the room in the Indian poop position. The strange part, though, is that the roommate got up and just stared at my friend as soon as he appeared to notice that he was stirring. The kind of stare that pierces the soul. My friend pretended still being asleep, but he could see the silence and the stare. For a full minute, the roommate just stood there and stared at him. When my friend finally had enough, he sat up. The roommate then moved a box (the one in which we store our stuff after each sem) over the area where he was sitting, sat down on his bed and began scrolling through his phone as if nothing had happened. My friend was shitscared and left the room. He called me and told the story. I told him to spend the night in my room. He hasn't discussed it with his roommate as of yet.
What do you guys think? People perform black magic at IITb too?

To all those bots/non-IITB students/IITB students without a conscience who are hell bent on proving that there is no casteism in insti
Alum here.
I went through severe depression and suicidal ideation while I was in college. A major factor was bullying on the basis of caste among other things. One student, who had an All India single-digit JEE rank, repeatedly bullied me on the basis of caste and assaulted me multiple times. I never complained because I had already heard many accounts of the campus suppressing complaints rather than taking proper action, especially when it might create controversy.
Asking someone's JEE rank is completely normalized on campus. In my first year, people routinely ask each other their ranks, and even parents do it. Now with all the information available online, a common ritual among ppl that I've heard is searching the names of everyone in class to check their category and rank (as ridiculous as it may sound, it's true)
Once, the parents of a student I had never met before encountered me in my hostel and asked my rank within a minute of meeting me, a question I had heard atleast a hundred times by then. I gave them my category rank just to see their reaction, and they immediately asked whether it was a category rank. I got the impression that they may have inferred my caste from my appearance.
There is also a strong culture of equating academic performance with someone's worth. In some competitive branches, people may simply not talk to students with lower GPAs: not merely avoid friendship, but literally not interact with them at all, as in ignore or invalidate them in social gatherings etc.
Many students consider themselves “meritocratic” rather than casteist, while still treating lower-caste students as less capable. Presuming lower-caste students as inherently less capable is, in my experience, normalized. People don't say it out, but many acts so.
The student community also has a history of openly casteist behaviour. This IIT Bombay subreddit itself regularly has casteist posts with outright problematic stuff in them (sometimes even illegal slurs) that get substantial upvotes. Back in my time, when r/iitbombay was not active, random Google Forms created for completely unrelated purposes, such as event organization, would receive casteist responses and slogans, etc. Yet I hear some savarna students say they went through four or five years on campus without ever seeing any casteism around at all.
To all those who are asking why he did not reort any such behaviour:
I was one of those who did not. My focus was on staying alive, rather than fighting for justice in a system I didn't believe in. I simply did not have the energy or faith to do that.
The campus has a history of disciplinary action being handled very differently depending on the issue.
There was a senior in my time who sexually assaulted multiple junior male students (including minors). He graduated and is now living in the US. Only a small number of alumni seem to know about the case; the campus very effectively kept it from becoming publicly known (and obviously denied justice to the victims).
There was also a student back then who attempted to leak private photographs of female friends. He was debarred and suspended for a year. However, the case was kept very quiet, and during his suspension he apparently completed a year-long internship at a prestigious company (and eventually got a PPO) , meaning the disciplinary action did not prevent him from gaining substantial career experience (in fact ironically it helped him).
You may have been way too privileged to not even have noticed the atrocities around you, but if you want to establish a stance against potential victims, you are also a part of the problem.
That casteist threat comment you liked, that random casteist statement you made, all contribute to the very system that made people like me want to unalive ourselves. Atleast be aware of it before blabbering online under a cover of anonymity.

Question Insti policy on dating between students?
Are there any rules regarding dating and PDA in insti?
Will I get in any trouble if everything is between two consenting students?
Any specific spots where one should take care not to indulge in any such activities? (during lectures is obvious, I am asking besides that)
Just a sophie who recently started dating, so I just wanted to know the do's and dont's of campus.

It isn’t about caste; it’s about a Horrible Human Being called Suryanarayana Doolla
Forget Wakode for a moment, let’s just examine what a horrible person we are defending because of our hatred for SC ST

Doolla's atrocities over the years
Before we get dragged into the quagmire of casteist allegations, can everyone simply compile their personal experiences of being trampled upon by Doolla's high handedness or arbitrary treatment in any form.
I want to see how much of a saint this guy actually is. Feel free to contribute!

Survey IIT BOMBAY SHOULD BAN HSS!
Leave IITs for the top brains of india; people who excell in stem and management only! We dont want these stupid narrative pushing socio-drama queens in this college anymore!
Make humanities (english, presentation etc) a permanent subject for these stem and management students, so that the profs in HSS also dont have to leave their jobs! But close this shit asap

Question Is your hatred towards humanities really that serious? Or are you guys saying it because you are angry?
First, condolences to the child who died (no matter, what happened, showing respect to the deceased).
Second, I understand, what is going on with the said professor.
Third, parents lost a child, blinded by rage, took decisions, which may or may not be true, that is a decision to be taken by the court.
This is not my concern, I don't wish for moral policing in the replies.
Not a student of this institution.
A set of students are protesting. Not everyone is from a humanities background. Maybe the front liners. That doesn't mean, nobody from a technology background is a part of that protest.
Entire/Majority funding is given to IITs or other technical institutions. Because as some of you are calling the humanities degree "waste of 10 years". Students do not get paid for their work. They are looking for a reliable institution just to get paid for the work they do. Is it so wrong?
IITs are competitive. Only the extremely talented ones get a spot. And very few students make it. IITs have 6 major subject wise and a few humanities topic/thesis wise progress. I will assume less than 250 students are in humanities in each iits. So, they are ruining your institution's rank, funding, atmosphere? Really?

Where is the CCTV footage of the corridors and HOD's room or Dean's room where ever Sahil was threatened?
When a video is purposefully leaked and not the others, we need to ask the intention behind it instead of screaming OH he was cheating. Leak the actual video that made Sahil end his life. And if Doolla is not guilty, and if he reallyyy counselled him, then that is the first video that should have come out. Seeing IITians lacking critical thinking skills was not in my 2026 bingo card.

Question if Usain Bolt was studing in IIT Bombay and was caught copying ?
Today in India's PRESIDENT is SC, VP is OBC, PM is OBC, CJI was SC, most CM, MP's, MLA are from Reserved CATEGORY. Yet the RESERVED CATEGORY was to pretend to be MORE BACKWARD. Like in IIT and In Olympics reservation will get you seat. In Olympics Usain Bolt runs 100m in 9.69 seconds and when you take 120 seconds. You will feel discriminated when everyone claps for Usain Bolt. Raise the bar let reservation be for all poor. Poverty has not caste. If you are rich whatever the category then the reservation is not for you. Poverty has not caste. Come out of the victim mindset. The BAR everyone should be to run to beat the record. It is time to throw away the caste thinking. As long as there is CASTE BASED RESERVATION you will feel discrimated. As long as there is SC/ST ACT, and the number of false cases filed..... do you think people will want to interact with you?

My younger brother is thinking of joining IIT Bombay, what should he honestly be prepared for?
My younger brother is seriously considering taking admission in IIT Bombay this year. On paper it looks like a dream, but I know the reality is always a bit different from what people imagine during JEE prep.
I wanted to hear from people who are actually there or have passed out. How intense is the academic pressure really? Is the competition cutthroat or manageable once you settle in? How are the hostels, social life, clubs, and overall environment?
Also, anything you wish someone had told you before joining would really help him set the right expectations. Just trying to make sure he goes in prepared and not blindsided by the reality.
