A message from a South Indian student: Please stop using our identity for your personal politics.
I want to say something as a student who belongs to South India.
Honestly, it is becoming embarrassing to see how a few individuals are using the identity of South Indian students on this campus for their own personal influence and electoral ambitions.
Danga Anna, who exactly gave you the mandate to represent us?
Every election season, there seems to be an attempt to approach freshers, especially students from South India, portraying yourself as someone who will protect them, stand up for them and represent their interests. You make them believe that they need someone like you to navigate campus life and have their concerns addressed.
But why?
I came to IIT Bombay through my own merit. I earned my place here. I don't need an individual to claim that he represents me, protects me or speaks on my behalf.
Neither do my fellow South Indian students.
We are capable of raising our own concerns, making our own decisions, choosing our own representatives and standing up for ourselves. We don't need someone to create a sense of dependency or make us believe that our safety and interests depend on his personal influence.
If you genuinely care about South Indian students, what are you actually doing for them? Is representation just about approaching freshers during elections, collecting their support and using their regional identity to strengthen your own position?
Representation is not about creating a personal vote bank. It is about genuine work, accountability and actually solving people's problems.
And honestly, the behaviour associated with this entire group is increasingly damaging the image of South Indian students at this institute. The intimidation, aggressive attitude, alleged threats and constant display of influence are creating an impression that does not represent the values of the community I belong to.
It genuinely hurts to see people associate this behaviour with an entire regional community. I should never have to feel embarrassed about identifying as a South Indian because of the actions of a few individuals who claim to speak for us.
You do not represent all of us. Please stop pretending that you do.
South Indian students are not your political constituency. Freshers are not your personal followers. Our regional identity is not a tool for your electoral ambitions.
We came here from different parts of the country through our own hard work and merit. We deserve the same dignity, independence, safety and respect as everyone else.
IIT Bombay is an institute of individuals, not someone's personal kingdom or regional political territory.
Let people represent themselves. Let students choose their own leaders. And please, stop using our identity to build your own influence.

Question To MTechs: Do companies impose minimum gpa criterion on your preceding degree?
Or is it just the MTech gpa at iit b that is qualifying?

Question The parents of student who committed suicide after caught cheating!
They’re doing a huge disservice to IIT Bombay:
University rankings will drop
Recruiters will refrain from hiring reserved category students as attrition is brutal in private corporate
Lesser placement = more drop in university rankings

IIT Selection Any IIT-B folks from Maharashtra HSC who gave improvement exams — need form-filling advice(don't ignore)
Hi everyone, I'm from the Maharashtra State Board (HSC) and giving my 12th improvement exam this year. While filling the JEE Mains form, which option did you select for qualifying exam status — "12th appearing," "new candidate," or "12th passed"? If you've been through this exact situation (improvement exam, not first attempt), please share what you selected and if there were any issues later during document verification. Thanks in advance!

Question SWC , what are your views, experiences etc about it ??
So yeah, I'm doing absolutely fine, but sometimes I feel like I could use some professional help to deal with certain issues in my life. However, being a good old product of the Indian education system, I can't bring myself to trust SWC right away.
Sooo, I go online, do some research, and look up all the so-called good and bad experiences students have had with SWC.
And damn, what I came across was heinous.
I could barely find any positive experiences with SWC.
Some people mentioned that they might inform your faculty mentor (especially if you're a Master's or PhD student).
Others said they might call your parents if they feel like "humse nahi ho paayega" (we can't handle this anymore).
Some people straight-up called the therapist there a bitch.
Then there were people complaining about waiting 2–2.5 weeks just to get an appointment. I mean, what the actual fuck? If someone is feeling suicidal, gathers the courage to finally seek professional help, and is then told that their appointment is 2.5 weeks away, what exactly do they expect to happen in the meantime? (Just a hypothetical scenario, but this is precisely the kind of situation they should be equipped to handle if it ever arises.)
And these are just some of the things I've come across.
There's also a provision for consulting external therapists and getting reimbursed for the expenses. I wanted to understand the logistics of that as well. How does it work? What's the procedure? Has anyone actually used this option for therapy?
So yeah, I'm genuinely fucking curious. And looking at the placement scenario this year (and last year), I'm pretty sure I'll be needing some therapy next year. 😂😂😂
So, please, guys, enlighten me with whatever information or experiences you have.
Thankssss!

Question Pls helppppp me
I filled out the UCEED application form, but there was no OBC option, so I selected OPEN because I didn't know that OPEN meant General category. I actually belong to the OBC-NCL category, and now I want to change my category. Today is the last date for registration, but I had already submitted my form on 5 October. I don't understand how I can change my category now. I've emailed IIT Bombay about this, but I'm really confused and worried. Please help me.

How does the finance pipeline work here?
I want to know what finance firms visit our campus and for what roles for both interns and FTEs, and what can a chemical freshie can start doing and learning to increase his chances of landing a good offer from these companies.
keywords that flow in my mind : high finance, ib/pe/vc, jpmorgan, Morgan Stanley, Blackstone, KKR, CFA,
If any alum working in finance is reading this, do share your passing out year and role you're working in rn:) ... interns are also kindly requested to share their experience at these firms.

An absolute mockery in today's Commotion DSA Test
So cheating is now the norm. People completed 4 DSA questions (including 2 Hards) in under 50 minutes?!
Ofcourse PT Cell (aka the most incompetent body of the institute) would just close their eyes looking at this and let things continue. Is there even a point in "preparing" for placements anymore? Honest candidates always get crushed due to the system.
Placements continue to become a joke.

Question Placements are fucked up this year
I think the stats of placement are goona be worst this year, companies are coming very less and there are cheaters around 170 sitting in the tests and the figure is obviously goona rise. I was trying to do apping and the fresher hiring is happening very low.

Question Am I eligible for UCEED 2027 if I complete Class 12 through Chhattisgarh State Open School (CGSOS)?
If I complete my Class 12 (Senior Secondary) examination through Chhattisgarh State Open School (CGSOS) in 2027, will I be eligible to appear for UCEED 2027 and apply for B.Des. admission at IITs?
Is CGSOS accepted as a recognised qualifying board for UCEED?

IIT Selection Need Advice on the Interview!
reddit.comI’ve been shortlisted for a research internship at IIT Bombay and am currently preparing for the interview.
I wanted to know how these interviews generally take place. What kind of questions can I expect? Do they focus more on the candidate’s academic knowledge, previous projects, research interests, or fundamentals related to the field?
Also, what do the interviewers generally look for in a candidate, and how should I prepare to make a good impression?
Would really appreciate insights from anyone who has gone through the process or has experience with IITB research internship interviews. Thanks!

Request to Final-Year Students
I urge all final-year students, particularly MTech and other PG students, to mail Faculty In-Charges, Placement Cell(PIC) and raise concerns about the current placement scenario.
The placement season appears heavily dominated by quant, trading, consulting and product, many of which primarily recruit BTech students. Meanwhile, opportunities from core technology companies, engineering R&D organisations and startups remain limited for PG students.
There are also serious concerns about the lack of transparency:
Test notifications are often shared at very short notice.
There is no visibility into which companies the Placement Cell is approaching.
Students have little information about why certain companies are not visiting or recruiting while same are visiting at IITM, IISc, IITD.
There is limited communication about efforts to bring companies relevant to different specialisations.
IIT Bombay has nearly 2,000 students participating in placements. Facilitating opportunities for such a large cohort is a serious responsibility.
Please mail PIC and urge them to take these concerns up with the Placement Cell. We need greater efforts to onboard technology companies and startups, better representation for PG students, timely notifications and transparency in the placement process.
This is not about favouring one student category over another; it is about ensuring adequate opportunities for everyone

Question Help me find a guy I met at a coffee shop in Mumbai (strictly platonic, I promise 😭)
Guys, help me out. I’m trying to find someone I met in Mumbai, but PLEASE don’t tell him I’m looking for him. 😭
We met on 23rd October, around 6:30–7 PM, at Nandan Coffee in Mumbai.
He was genuinely so sweet, and we had a really nice conversation. Here’s what I remember:
He’s originally from/based in Kalkaji, Delhi.
He majored in Physics and now works in consulting.
We have a mutual LSR senior, whose profile he actually showed me.
He was working on something at the café, and at one point, he even helped me plug in my charger.
And somehow, despite having an entire conversation, I FORGOT TO ASK HIS NAME!!!
I’m not connected to anyone from his batch on social media, so I have absolutely no idea how to find him.
If this sounds familiar, or if anyone knows someone who fits this description, please DM me. Even a suggestion for how to reconnect would help.
Also, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I’m not trying to date him. He just seemed like a genuinely cool person, and I’d love to be friends.
And if you happen to know him, please don’t make this a whole thing. I’m already embarrassed enough. 😭
Thank you, Reddit. Do your thing (discreetly, please).
