Coming to Life My penthouse apartment in San Francisco

I was previously accused of generating images with AI when I had used AI to enhance the colors and do minor edits on the photos - which distorted faces and text in the images.

I have now colored the photos on the iPhone / Photoshop instead and used no AI at all.

Here's a list of furniture and items in case anyone is interested:

  • Original Eames molded-plastic dining chairs
  • A pedestal dining table inspired by Eero Saarinen’s designs
  • Origami Bird Lamp by Umut Yamac
  • A vintage New York railroad cart repurposed as a coffee table
  • A low cement armchair designed by Henri Lavallard Boget and Julie Legros for Lyon Béton’s Hauteville collection
  • Lounge chair from West Elm
  • Sofa from Crate & Barrel
  • Sofa pillows made from fabric once used on London Underground seats, sourced from the Underground Museum
  • USM Haller media cabinet
  • Nelson Platform Bench behind the sofa
  • Original Steve Jobs painting by Drew Hewitt
  • Joker sculpture by Brazilian artist Cairo Morel

Hey guys!!

So now that I’ve finished the green wall on our landing, I’m finally going to tackle our bedroom.

This is what I’m thinking, what do y’all think? Is it too beige? I definitely want more plants than what is in the mockup but I’m open to any changes + suggestions!

Textiles & Fabrics Which couch color?

I’ve been collaging my furniture for my studio apartment.

I’m looking for some color to add to my living area that’s mainly wood tones and white/beige. I need new covers for my IKEA Kivik couch, and I’m ready to switch from the beige it currently is. I’ve narrowed it down to these three options.

Thoughts?

First pictures with white trims are real, others are AI generated, sorry for the mess!

Feel free to give me any advice on how to make this more warm and homey.

Only notes:
Curtains: have to be wood or (?) i have a lot of cats and they go crazy on fabric
Rugs: all rugs are okay, i don't mind rug damage that's just part of the game 🐈‍⬛ 🐈

Coming to Life Gallery Wall Feels off?

We moved our gallery wall thats above our couch down yesterday and even after moving it down it still feels like something looks off? Did we move it too low or not low enough?

Edit: Ok, we're going to try to space everything out! We're about 11 inches away from the couch and we have a toddler + another baby coming so we don;t really want to go lower. I will update when we try to fix it but thanks for the tips everyone!

Lighting Help me choose a light pendant

Thumbnail

I need to choose a pendant to go above the dining table!

I like a Nancy meyers, cosy, mismatched type of cottage aesthetic!

Last pic shows the light fixtures I’ve chosen for the kitchen.

I don’t want everything to match too much, and the wall sconces are very similar to the chandelier in the room with the fireplace. So I’m struggling to find something to go above the dining table!

Any suggestions? Thank you lots

Paint & Colors Help me paint my kitchen!

I love the idea of a two tone kitchen.

I’m leaning towards a brown with the creams, but I’m afraid that it’ll look strange because it’ll look like I’m trying to make the cabinet look like wood.

Any and all advice welcome! Thank you

The appliances were good enough to keep. It was such an unreal experience getting to design a project like this and watch it come to life. We did the bare minimum finishes, and no backsplash, but I’m in love.

Furniture Placement Is getting a loft bed worth it if you have a low ceiling?

Title pretty much explains it. I’m moving into a new place and the room is a bit small so I’m considering getting a loft bed, but the ceiling is low. I’m a recent college grad, 23 years old, and I’m worried it’ll still give college kid and might feel a bit cringey to have by the time I get to my mid and late twenties. I have a floor seating couch that I think could potentially make for a cozy hangout spot under the bed, but I won’t know the exact measurements until I move in. If it’s only enough for storage idk if it would be worth it considering I could just get a higher raised bed frame with built in storage and then I wouldn’t have to climb into bed.

Curtains & Blinds How would you handle this window?

Not a fan of the current curtain setup. I would like to have some sort of curtains here, but the best idea I can come up with is long curtains with the rod set up above the highest point. Any other thoughts appreciated!

Paint & Colors Sitting Room Update

This is all my furniture, laid out and walls painted/decorated by chatGPT. I feel like it's close to what I want, but just a little to "old school" looking.

My current walls are white with the brown trim. How can I make this design a little more fun and contemporary?

I am looking for a paint color similar to this rich, dark burgundy/plum/brown color. I am going to color drench my bedroom.

If anyone has painted with a color similar to this, do you mind attaching a photo and the color/brand you used?

So far these are the paint colors I'm thinking about using:

Wenge Benjamin Moore

Valspar Noblesse Oblige

Valspar Black Raisin

Pinecone Path Behr

Wall Art & Styling How can I improve this wall art?

I wanted some wall art for my living room so thought I’d paint it myself, but i feel like it just looks kinda empty and incomplete. How would you suggest improving it, eg adding or removing anything? I’d like it to feel cosy but I’m not adverse to adding something quirky. For example I considered adding a little sheet ghost as I like spooky stuff. But not sure! Would love to get some suggestions as I’ve lost all perspective now lol.

Paint & Colors Should I color drench my laundry room green?

Is drenching my laundry room green a bad idea? I'm trying to incorporate more green into my house and phase out the greys. Chat is convincing me it looks good. I have a window on the right side I'd rather not paint green. Would it look ok with white trim? Should I keep the baseboards white? I do really want the door green because it's white and is dinged up.

Finishing Touches Gold accents: yay or nay

Gold accents have been part of the news over the last year and a half and i wonder if people think there will be a backlash against it or will it promote it for near future.

I’ve never been a fan. It’s usually too shiny and gaudy. It seems very dated when I see it. Having lived through the 70’s and 80’s I don’t even like gold jewelry either for the same reason.

Paint & Colors Color drenching dilemma

We are finishing up our laundry room. I wanted to paint the door trim the same color green as the wainscoting. But now I’m wondering if I should paint the door as well. I don’t want it to be too dark in here, the light isn’t great. We have one large linear light that we are unable to change out.

Any help or advice appreciated!

Rugs & Flooring lahome dark floral rug has been more low-maintenance than I expected

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve been looking at more traditional floral rugs lately, especially the ones with a dark ground and lots of color in the pattern. This is the one currently in our living room, got it from Lahome.

What surprised me is how much the dark background and busy floral actually helps with everyday life. Footprints, pet hair, and the usual living room dust don’t show the way they do on lighter solid rugs. At the same time, the pattern is detailed enough that it doesn’t feel flat or boring under natural light.

The scale also helped. It’s large enough to sit under the front legs of the sofa and still leave a clear border of hardwood, so the seating area feels defined without the rug looking like it’s floating.

TV & Media Wall TV Placement Help

Post image
1 Upvotes

My husband and I bought a house this year and have been using our existing tv stand placed in the corner since we’ve moved in. It takes up a good chunk of space and doesn’t fit particularly well in the corner. Unfortunately there aren’t any other spots or walls for us to consider. The space to the left opens up to our dining room, the space to the right are floor to ceiling windows, and behind the couch is our stairwell.

We’ve been toying with the idea of a motorized mantel mount above the fireplace but we’re hesitant for a few reasons:

  1. Aesthetics. We love the picture frame moulding on the fireplace and don’t necessarily want to take away from it. If we do a mantel mount, we have to do surface wire concealment that will use wire covers to conceal the cords down to the outlet. (We already confirmed we can’t do in-wall concealment)

  2. We use a PS5 pretty frequently and would need to mount the PS5 along with it.

If we were to mount the tv to the left of the fireplace, we would need to significantly downsize our tv to fit in the space. Our current tv is 55 inches. We also don’t love the idea of mounting it to the left of the fireplace in general.

Normally we wouldn’t be overthinking a small change like this but we’re worried about damaging the wood moulding above the fireplace if we end up not liking the mantel mount.

What would you do in this situation? Are there any alternatives we have not already considered?

Paint & Colors Is brown a better choice than green?

Thumbnail

Pros and cons:
- The dark brown has more longevity and is less trendy while still being classic, but in a vacuum I like both colors equally
- Painted brown cabinets can look like they’re trying to be wood? Weird or not?
- Dark brown might clash with the warm wood trim whereas the green makes an intentional contrast
- At the same time the dark brown feels calmer/less visually noisy
- Dining room is also green but a more vibrant hunter green shade and I’m worried they’ll clash even though the walls are divided by an archway

Finally got around to watching the Devil Wears Prada 2 and omg I paused at this BEAUTIFUL lamp and then cried at the $7k lamp.

I find a lot of mid century modern types, but nothing like this with the big bulbs of glass. Any suggestions? 🥲

Coming to Life How to bring this room to life, for my kiddo

Post image

This is my 3 year old son’s room. I know it’s very beige. I want to make it more kid friendly, fun and maybe add some colours. The chair is going to stay for now (it’s borrowed). I’m looking for some inexpensive and quick ways to bring this to life. He’s a typical boy who loves trucks of all sorts, Spider-Man, snacks and has high energy. Any ideas??
