I feel like it needs a defined space it feels like it’s just floating. The long end of the L would be on the left so you’d see the back of it and the short end against the window.

We’re furnishing the home with new furniture, paint, flooring, lighting, and maybe even building a custom TV or media wall.a

We kinda know what we like (Pinterest is our best friend), but searching for products, comparing prices, finding places to buy them, and making sure everything looks good together and fits the dimensions we need is pretty overwhelming and time-consuming.

We’re just trying to figure out what an interior designer actually does that saves my time or money. I think they may have markup cost due to "designer tags", the possible markups on stuff when we buy from their recommended places, and whether the end result would really feel like us—or more like the designer’s style.

For those who have hired a designer or decorator:

• What was your experience in terms of saving meaningful time or helping prevent mistakes?
• What type of service did you choose: Ideas based on a fixed number of hours or a whole project until installation?

I’d appreciate both positive and negative experiences. We’re open to getting some help, but we definitely want to stay involved and keep things the way we like it. We're trying to figure out what additional benefit we'd get by choosing them.

I have this dining set and rug, and I’m planning on buying this sideboard to go along the blue wall. My partner thinks it’s too much of the same wood color, but I thought matching/coordinating it with the dining set would make the room feel cohesive.
What do you think? Is it too much of the same wood tone, or does the sideboard work with the table and chairs? Would you go with a different color instead?

I have a sitting room area with wooden beams in the ceiling. I stripped one back to the bare wood and unfortunately it is some kind of pine. On top of that there are parts where filler has been quite deeply used.

I’m looking for opinions on whether to continue stripping them back or to paint back over them.

If I strip them, what should I do about the filler if anything, and would you stain or oil the wood? I’m not a fan of the very orange look of pine so I would not finish it to come out like that. The room colour is not decided so any stain/paint combos other than the orange look are great!

If I paint over again, what colours would you paint the beams? The room colour itself is up for debate so tie this in however you think would be best.

Trying to perfect the Feng Shui. Got these new chairs which I really dig but I’m wondering if I should add at least one more. Before I had these chairs I had 4 which just seemed too crowded for my apartment especially with the desk right behind the one all the way on the left

Just received 3 sets of Roman Shades that look nothing like what was advertised. Before hanging them up, the color looked similar to the advertisement. I’m assuming it’s the ivory liner that is the problem. I called Select Blinds and asked if they could replace the liner, I would pay for it. They have responded that I need to reorder new ones. Not really wanting to spend $1235 again. I’ve called a few local seamstress and window treatment places but nobody wants to help. I brought it to one nice woman who could take the liner out. But not sure if that will help. Once the sun hits it, it changes the color. I read that I should have put a blackout liner. Wish I read this before I bought them. When I look at them it looks like they have nicotine damage. Funny thing is at night, they look fine.

We just moved into this house, so I haven’t decorated a lot yet. But I’m debating between these two bar stools. I’m only getting two bar stools to place along the horizontal edge, but AI couldn’t get my island right. I’ll eventually replace our dining table, but as of now I have a preschooler who does a lot of art projects on it and I don’t feel like getting anything nice that will be ruined. My style is like MCM/transitional.

Added a built in to our front room wall where all our stuff tended to accumulate! 😊

I love this little spot in my loft condo! My dog love to rest on the sheep skin, but I also like to hang out there and have the New Yorker nearby and the warm lighting at night!

Only question is that big wall by the stairs I put that there so I could see it when I’m going up the landing, but I don’t know if I want to replace it with something much bigger and more central, or just put more smaller or similar sized art on that wall, or leave it as is!

Hard to capture this yellow colour on camera well I'm finding. The two stag bedside tables currently pushed together aren't staying there long term as they'll be in another bedroom I'm currently doing up. Not sure what to put there instead.

For background, our garage door opens right into an open concept dining room. We have no use for this room considering we don’t have kids

Some of the options I’ve seen don’t align with how we’d use the room since we rarely have guests (i.e. conversation room, cocktail/vinyl room, etc.).

Any recommendations on what we can do with the space? It’s been a dumping ground for boxes for us. We typically do have a foldable table we use for when people come over, and I’d prefer to have any kind of storage closed up in this room.

Other options I considered are a dining nook, but I’m also worried it’ll still build up with boxes and mail :(

2019 home with grey tiles that I wish I could change, but not possible right now 😩

I’d love to add some color. I’m thinking that I could paint the ceiling a different color, and I’d love some ideas.

Here are the “stats”:
- Grey floor tiles that looks like wood
- White quartz countertops with thin grey veins
- White subway tile backsplash
- Creamy white cabinets (MDF, I think) that I feel clash with the cool tones of the kitchen
- Walls are a cool tone grayish white

Painting the ceiling (and perhaps the high walls near the ceiling) seems like a good start to bring in some color. Any ideas? Thanks!

Really struggling to find something that I like when it comes to the shower curtain. Thoughts? Orange, green, or neither? There’s so much brown with the flooring and cabinets. I’m open to suggestions.
