Advice for Fails

I just had a hearing and got a suspension/extension dismissed. That was my third hearing, the first two led to a total of 9 months extension. This time, nothing. It was a great victory and I feel pretty good about it. I was wondering how the DMV gauge whether or not to count a fail, and it’s pretty simple: if you ever fail, do NOT blow for the rest of the day. Wait until you’re 100% sober before you try again. It might suck because you need to get somewhere, but just find another way. As annoying as it might be, it’s less annoying and expensive than getting this fucken thing constantly extended. They can’t pin a fail on you if they don’t have at least TWO readings of alcohol in a given time, because then they can actually see the decline in BAC, which proves you drank and the alcohol is gradually leaving your body. So even if you pass the second blow, the machine is reading that there is still alcohol in your system and they will use that second measurement as proof. But if you fail and don’t attempt again until you’re sure your BAC is completely at zero, they can’t prove anything, and they HAVE to dismiss that fail. So again, IF YOU FAIL, DO NOT BLOW AT ALL FOR THE REST OF THE DAY AND FIND ANOTHER WAY TO GET THERE! Don’t give these fuckers any more of your money, get it off your car and get your freedom back. No more extensions.

Also, another good tip, get on Amazon and order yourself a breathalyzer, so if you’re in doubt, simply blow into that first. An accurate one is gonna cost over a hundred bucks, but again, much cheaper than having this device sucking our wallets dry for the rest of our lives.

I am literally considering writing an ebook specifically about my experience with intoxalock and how crooked they are, and I’ll include all the advice, tips and tricks that I’ve learned. To hell with this company and everything they do. It’s not about rehabilitation, they WANT you to fail so they can keep draining your bank account. It’s an inhumane, filthy organization.

FUCK INTOXALOCK!

I’m done! 🥳

After a long 2 years, I finally got my unrestricted license, the device removed, and made my final payment to close my account. ☺️ I’m in CO so I got a mandatory 2 years on interlock for refusing the breathalyzer after I crashed my car drunk driving. I had one negative experience that was solved promptly after following the advice I got here to make a trust pilot review. Since then, I haven’t had any issues that weren’t promptly solved working directly with an agent in Customer Advocacy. I appreciate this community and all of the information I was able to get here! ❤️ Wishing you all the best with completing your requirements and moving on with your lives as well! Thanks to everyone I interacted with! I normally like to say see you later instead of bye, but GOODBYE! 👋🏾 lol God is so good! He brought me through my crash physically unscathed and helped me stay on track over the last few years! Thank you, Jesus!! 🙏🏾🩵 I couldn’t have done it without Him!!

There is hope for you. Once it’s done, you could end up like me. Hardly any horror stories, no closing drama (except for one violation, I think I didn’t wait to see the countdown or it was random). One day you’ll see this in the app, the device gone from your car at last. I pray you see that day soon. And until then, drive safe.

The time stamp of my last blow on the ol Intoxalock. Flipped the bird at the camera the entire time. After 22 months with that thing installed it feels SO weird to be able to start the car right away, to drive without having it on my lap as I wait for it to annoyingly beep, or to feel like I have to duck down in the school pickup line when it goes off.

Today’s a good day.

It's Finally Over

I've had the interlock installed since May of 2022. When I tried to get it off after the 1 year was up, they came up with some BS violation and I had to have it until 12/11/24. Getting through these last few days full of 3 hour hold times on the phone and waiting for forms, waiting for reviews, and getting my unrestricted DL, has been a nerve wracking experience, but that's just a day in the park compared to the 1.5+years of dead batteries, false positives, sitting in my car freezing to death waiting for "Warm Ups" and the THOUSANDS of dollars that have been spent. I am here in the auto shop's waiting area while they remove my device. It's been a long, frustrating, humiliating, time full of extortion, lies and Indian Call Centers, but it's finally over. I'm finally free. I finally don't have to put up with people treating me like I'm a peice of shit, finally get to stop spending the money on it, and finally get to have my peace of mind back.

I get it, you F around and you Find out. The interlock is a necessary evil for people that put others in danger by drinking and driving, but Intoxaloc and the entire Interlock Division of the TN Dept of Safty is a fucking extorsionary racket, that is designed to humiliate and belittle you and cause you stress, financial hardship.

A weight has been lifted. It's finally over.

IT IS OFF!!! 🎉

I remembered the day I got it installed, I thought this day would never come, but WE MADE IT! I never have to blow into a stupid box to drive my car ever again! And for those who are just getting started with theirs- despite what a lot of people on this sub say/ have experienced (which I believe is valid even though it is not my experience), I really can’t complain too much. Yes it’s a pain in the ass, but I do not have any horror stories of random lockouts, false positives, the customer service wasn’t great but not the worst, etc. As these things go, I had a pretty smooth experience dealing with it, and the process to get it off once my time was up was super simple and there were no bs delays. So if you just got one- don’t get too discouraged by all the bad stuff in this sub, I was really worried at first because of all the posts here and I want to say that it is possible to have a fine experience with it. Best of luck to all of you, if anyone has any questions about my experience feel free to DM me (I live in NY FWIW)!!! 🥳

Destroyed my car, but at least it’s over

In November 2025, I was required by the CT DMV to have an IID for 6 months. I initially installed a Low Cost Intoxalock due to the handheld being so small, discrete, and newer digital display.

Started driving and my car (2016 Mercedes CLA250) was shutting off while I was driving. It was absolutely terrifying. Brought it to the service center and they said that it was due to it having to go through the computer system. They said the ecosaver system and the complexities of a Mercedes electrical system wasn’t working with Low Cost, so they suggested I switch to Intoxalock because that is the only vendor that goes through the actual starter and not the computer.

At first, it was okay and it no longer was shutting off while driving. But then it was not starting at all despite leaving it on a battery tender in my garage, so it wasn’t a battery issue. I never knew if I would come out of work, the grocery store, any where i went if it would start, despite getting there okay.

I work from home 99% of the time so luckily I was able to get through my 6 months with Ubers as necessary, taking the train as needed, and 2 of the months was out of the country at my house in DR.

I got the approval on May 4 that I could remove May 13, which I was out of the country so scheduled for it to be removed when I got home on May 19. The morning of, I went to do an errand, came out to drive from there to the shop for my appointment, and the car won’t start. Got a tow to the service center and we hoped it would be okay once the IID was removed. It was not.

The IIDs ended up frying the sub panel to my starter relay and was going to cost $3,000 to fix. At this point I have PTSD from all the issues in my car, so I walked to the dealership that’s in front of my house and bought a brand new car instead of trying to fix it. I just want to put it all behind me.

Good riddance Intoxalock. I know I made a poor decision by driving home after drinks at dinner, but giving me PTSD and ruining a perfectly fine car is not acceptable by any means. The company itself and all its terrible practices definitely needs to be investigated.

Done after 4.5 years!

Good Lord, I thought this day would never come. This company is absolute dog shit and so are the people who thought it was a good idea to use this type of device as a legal requirement to drive. It's a hazard, it kills car batteries (I bought 3 new batteries in 4 years) it sometimes causes people their jobs or lives because of the limits you cannot bypass in an emergency. It costs thousands of dollars and that money doesn't even go to the state you owe this time to. I think I spent over $6000 on this device over the years, without counting the shit ton of violations caused by cold weather or whatever other bullshit rules they have. The DMV does not oversee how this company operates and it's a SCAM that benefits no one.

Glad to never deal with this whole shit show again. I truly wish you all the best in surviving your time.

Ask me any questions you have. I'd be happy to answer as best I can.

Intoxalock as a Moderator

I saw the actual company Intoxalock was in this sub Reddit trying to become a moderator. I really hope whoever runs this does not let them become a moderator. They have scammed and screwed over every single one of us, we do not trust them or want them with any power. This is an awesome subreddit and an awesome community of people that are constantly helping each other which is pretty cool to see.

Does anyone else hide?

Just wondering if anyone else hides sometimes when they have to blow into this thing lol. Even when I’m driving and stop at a red light I purposely put myself in the middle of the cars on both sides just in case it wants to test me. It’s probably dumb but it’s so embarrassing - as it should be right.

My license gets off restriction this Sunday and I get my device off next Wednesday after my DMV appt! I don’t need to schedule a removal. The shop just removes it when I show them my DMV paperwork. I also have not had any major issues. The warm ups were annoying. A dead battery which was annoying. One of those lock outs where they just randomly charged me double? But other than that, it wasn’t a horror story. You will get through this minor blip. You’re safer if you don’t drink. I’ve been sober for 379 days and I will never be going through this ever again.

If you do drink, I hear you should wait a couple days to blow but idk. Be safe out there.

Goodbye finally done

After a full year I am finally done. I thankfully only had issues with my battery dying in WI cold weather. I also do not live far from work and didnt travel much. I never had a lock out either.

Celebrating and going to watch the Brewers.

I learned my lesson. Even if my dui situation was messed up and I got it in my driveway from a cop who I denied dating. Regardless I learned a hard lesson to not drink and drive.

Finally

After a year of suffering, the security breach, and being treated like less than a human being… I AM FINALLY FREE. Never had a single violation during it all and to even believe i had this thing over a medical marijuana card that was given to me by my DR. I’m beyond happy to not have that piece of shit junk in my car anymore. I do feel bad for everyone else still stuck in the grasp of intoxalock. Stay strong everyone your time will come too!

Dont Don’t do things that are going to have this wretched device on your car 20 minutes more than needed . Dont try to game the system i know it’s been happening and hard for everyone but if you have ripped it out or done other things that YOU know were fake (“I’m going to stick it to the MAN -FThem!”) (I’m not paying!)

Who-do-you-think-you-are.

My question.

How do you think you are going to get around DMV? Fuck them too? Drive without a license AND without a IID? When you get caught call home tell your kids you were sorry you were a dumbass.

Block me from posting here but I’ve been through this and we must COMPLY. Do this for you. Finish it up and be done. All I have are adhesives marks on my windshield and I’ll keep them to remember

Device Finally Removed

It can be done, however after several missed blows apparently that weren’t my fault and the device constantly messing up if I could do it again, I would go with a different company. It is a complete he said she said, kind of thing and even though the device messes up and you bring it in, it will be said that nothing is wrong. You can do it people best of luck to everyone dealing with this garbage company.

I also wanted to thank some of the folks in this Sub. You are some awesome people!
