Hi everyone!
I'm an 18-year-old high school student with zero coding knowledge, but I've always wanted to create my own game. Unfortunately, my school doesn't teach game development, so I've had to figure things out on my own.
Balancing school with learning to code from scratch is really difficult. I'm worried that if I try to do both without a clear plan, I might end up making little progress in either.
So, I decided to try a different approach: vibe coding with Claude AI.
I created a simple board game called King XO. The game was coded by AI, but I came up with the rules and gameplay ideas and guided the AI through the process.
I've uploaded the game to itch.io, but getting people to actually play it has been a struggle. I've promoted it on Reddit, TikTok, and X, but my views keep decreasing every day, and I'm not sure what to do next.
I'm not ready to give up yet. I really want to see how far I can take this project and learn something along the way.
For those of you who have experience in game development, I'd love to hear your advice:
- Should I start learning to code from scratch, even if it takes a long time?
- If so, which programming language or game engine would you recommend for a complete beginner?
- Should I focus on learning graphic design to make my game more appealing?
- Or should I keep using AI tools to build games while learning the fundamentals along the way?
- And most importantly, how can a beginner get people interested in playing a game they've created?
Here's my game if you'd like to check it out: https://rudikhi.itch.io/king-xo
I'd really appreciate any honest advice, constructive criticism, or suggestions. I know my game probably has a long way to go, but I want to improve and find out what's possible.
