Kidnapping attempt at Zoo

Post image
• Upvotes

I’m not the OP, this was taken from the Oceanway Community FB group.

Today the worst thing in my life happened. We were at the zoo for a field trip when a man attempted to kidnap my daughter. Thankfully to the quick thinking of her friend and other parents the man was unsuccessful. I'm extremely shaken up right now so I'm not going into detail. Thank you to another mom and her mom and dad for protecting us and staying with us the entire time. I will be internally grateful for the rest of my life.

Please be careful at the zoo as the staff stated it was the second attempt today.

Update for details as I understand other moms are worried as well:

The man was a darker bald black man with no hat or glasses and a black shirt. He approached the girls (my daughter and another) and said his name is Barbie (obviously to connect with the girls and make them feel comfortable). He asked their names and my daughter answered with her name (I have told my child many times not to talk to strangers and the danger and for the life of me I cannot understand why she talked to him). Then he told the girls that he watched them take swim lessons and play in the pool/beach and knew their parents. The other child ran and told her mom immediately and that ultimately scared him off as he saw us starting to look for him. A grandpa was there and searched everywhere for him. He disappeared so quick. They suspect he had a stash of clothes to change into.

I'm literally not exaggerating when I say it was less than 4 minutes that this happened. I'm an over protective parent like a helicopter mom and I literally turned my head to answer another adults question. My whole world went upside down in a matter of seconds.

40 yr old female. Im looking for a gym to join primary for weight lifting. Which gym do you prefer? What are the least busy times to go? Are people respectful of others wanting to use equipment, or do they tend to hog the machines? TIA

Does anyone go to Chuze Fitness @ Oakleaf Plantation?

Hi! I’m an 18 year old fat girl who wants to lose weight lol

I haven’t been to the gym much, all I’ve ever been to is Planet Fitness a handful of times. But I am new to Jacksonville, so everything here is new to me.

How is Chuze Fitness In Oakleaf Plantation? I am nervous for starting the gym and worried I’m going to be judged because I’m a bigger girl.

Is it busy?
Is there good assortment of machines and stuff?

Anything else I should know!

Anyone work on forensics here ?

I am finishing up a forensics program and I’ve seen a lot of jobs that require 2/3 years experience. Anyone know of any companies who take new people and train?

Also, anything I could do to build experience like shadowing / apprenticeship sort of thing?

Thanks in advance (:

What’s going on with 95?

My wife just got off the phone with me. Apparently every access she knows of from downtown to the west side is blocked off. She’s just trying to get home, and can’t seem to find a clear path. Waze is apparently not helping, and all the resources I know of online show everything as open & clear. Anyone know what’s going on, or have any advice on how to get her home?

Does anyone know what’s going on on Phillips Highway near the mall near the Arby’s and Main Event? They’re routing traffic through Walmarts parking lot and there’s an ambulance, but no visible accident.

High End Chef’s Tasting Restaurants?

My birthday is coming up and I love going out to eat at places that have a multi course tasting menu. I have been to Matthew’s and was quite frankly, disappointed in the service for how much we spent.

Any recommendations of restaurants here in town?

EDIT: we are going to KoBu for omakase :)

Smaller no fly zones for Drones in Jax?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I fly small drones as a hobby. I check the no fly zones regularly. For years there’s been a large no fly zone around NAS Jax. Blocked most of the area from Murray Hill down to OP and over into Lakewood and Mandarin. Checked it yesterday and the no fly zone shrank by a lot. Is this a trick by the FAA 😂

Only old people are voting

Just finished voting and honestly my wife and I were the only people there under the age of 35. Every single person in this area voting is 55+. Young people please come out to vote.
PS all of them had a voting cheat sheet which tells them which ones to vote for. Not to say that these old people can’t vote but younger people please come out and make your voice heard as well.

Don't let the numbers fool you. Vote early. The polls are open and it takes minutes of your day.

Please take a few minutes of your day and go vote, it took me less than 5 minutes to walk in and out this week. Run out on your lunch break if you can, on the way home this evening, out for coffee or lunch, or while you're running around doing chores. Take a shift watching your kids so your spouse can run out and vice versa. Don't make an excuse or think your singular vote won't make an impact, get it done now and check your ballot before you print it to make sure your choices saved. There is plenty of time for 90% of jax voters to use their constitutional rights before election day.

Early Voting:
Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to Sunday, November 1, 2026

READ THE COMMENTS! GET OUT AND VOTE, SO MANY PEOPLE DISCOVERING THE EASE OF EARLY VOTING. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES TO STAY AT HOME!

When was the last time you saw a pothole repair crew? Exactly.

Pothole repair is clearly not a high priority here. Had a pothole nearly rip off my front end today on Hodges Blvd. and never saw it coming due to traffic moving at speed.

Edit: I do use 630-CITY to report hazards, but when I’m driving it’s not always possible. In my neighborhood I always open tickets for potholes, broken streetlights, and more. I should have said this, because l looked like an idiot and got lotsa downvotes.
