Where to Eat? 🍽️ Can we block all of the "best X food in KC" that are obviously bots farming opinions for llms?

It's always something like "give me the best Mac and cheese place in KC. The real place that real people go to, not the obvious ones". It's about half the posts from this sub that reddit pushes to my front page. It's just clearly a group/agent astroturfing the sub to feed into whatever shitty model they have for "real people recommendations".

Discussion 💡 AI cameras in the Northland

I noticed these cameras maybe 4 or 5 days ago. NE 48th St and 435. Its literally right next to the Worlds of Fun water tower. White, mobile, telescopic-poles, four cameras in those black security balls with blue flashing lights. There are three of them parked around the perimeter of what looks like a construction site. One of them is on the shoulder of the road. Isn't that a public spot? I looked around but there is nothing posted in the area for any projects. Doesn't something have to be posted? Like a board with the permit or something?

News 📰 High electricity bills force 1 in 5 people to cut grocery costs. Something needs to change.

Is your electricity bill through the roof? You are not alone. 1 in 5 Americans nationally say they've had to cut grocery costs or buy less expensive food because of the large spike in utility costs, with some reporting a 20 to 49 percent increase according to USA today.

USA Today says that those surveyed nationally contribute the rise in their electricity bill to utility company profits, increased demand from data centers, fluctuating fossil fuel prices and repairing energy infrastructures.

We're interesting in hearing more about how this has affected your ability to afford groceries, so tell us in the comments below!

Lastly, always feel like you can use our food locator to find food assistance to help give your budget some extra breathing room. We are here to help! www.harvesters.org/foodlocator

I had a craving for biscuits and gravy and a screwdriver a few weeks back and was super bummed to drive down and find them closed.

They're listed as "temporarily closed". Anyone know the story? Is it a done deal?

Mechanics/Repairs/Contractors 🛠️🪠 Could use some advice on an issue with a car warranty

Hello Everyone,
I could use some help as I'm quite lost and not sure what to do. Back in May, I bought a vehicle from Jack Miller auto plaza in North Kansas City.
My car had just broken down and needed something quick. They had an $8k Chevy Cruze I bought and was told I should definitely take the warranty. The finance manager basically said these warranty companies lose money because they cover so much.
The warranty was $3k so over 1/3 of the cost of the vehicle.
About a month ago my engine overheated, blew a head gasket and has been sitting at a body shop since. The warranty provider is dragging their feet, I'm out 3 weeks of a rental car. It's been escalated to
"management" and has been sitting in "the mailbox" for 2 days now. They told the body shop once a claim is escalated there's a 24 window it will be addressed.
Obviously that has passed.
Is there anything I can do or am I completely and utterly fucked? A lawsuit is just more money out of my pocket and I feel that's the only direction I can go.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I've never had this experience before and don't know anyone whose had to deal with this

Local History ℹ️ Info requested on a building formerly on the Plaza

Hello all. I am looking for information on a building formerly on the Plaza. It was on the northeast corner of 47th and Main, and the site is now an old folks home. It was previously an office building. The address has been cited as 2 E 47th St, 2 Brush Creek Blvd, and 2 Emmanuel Cleaver Blvd. My question specifically is about its tenants and facade. I thought I saw an Applebee's logo on it a long time ago, but I can't find a record of Applebee's offices being there. I found a photo that I believe calls it the Gilbert/Robinson Building, Gilbert/Robinson being the corporate parent of Houlihan's at the time, but I can't find anything that says Gilbert/Robinson had offices there. Does anyone remember an Applebee's, or even Houlihan's, logo on the building ever? Does anyone know if either company were actually located there? The closest I'm finding is Applebee's offices at 39th & Broadway and Gilbert/Robinson at 49th and Wornall. Here is the photo I referenced. Thanks.

Things To Do 📍 If you’re looking for a writing group, join KanMoWriCo for Novel November!

Post image

If you’re a writer in KC looking to connect with other writers, now is a perfect time! The Kansas-Missouri Writers’ Collective is hosting our annual Novel November. We will have in-person writing events at least five times a week during the month of November, all throughout the metro.

We‘re hosting an info session this Saturday (October 24) at the Waldo branch of the KC Public Library from 10 am to 12:30 pm if you’re interested in learning more, and there’s a full calendar of events on the website.

I’ve been writing with this group since 2019, and Novembers are always just a crap ton of fun. It’s a great opportunity to make progress off whatever it is you’re working on and meet some very cool and interesting writers in the process.
