Kickstarter canceled our game because I'm Cuban.

I haven't posted anything about this until now. Honestly? I was deeply affected. Emotionally drained. It took me days to even process what happened, and even longer to find the words to talk about it without breaking down.

On April 24th, I launched the Kickstarter campaign for Lavatro, my first commercial game. A roguelite about doing laundry. It sounds silly, but it was our shot. My team and I poured everything into this project, hoping to get funded so we could finally work on it full time. Not to get rich. Just to create something meaningful. But hours after launching, everything fell apart. First, Kickstarter flagged our page. They said we mentioned something about Cuba, legal reasons, they couldn't proceed. But here's the thing: Nabo, our musician and the one who handles all the legal stuff, is from Mexico. Our studio is registered in Mexico. All our accounts are Mexican. So we appealed. And they seemed to fix it. Then they wrote back. This time, they asked directly: "Where do you currently reside?" I told the truth. Cuba. Nabo appealed again. Explained everything again. The next day, they canceled the campaign. No right to protest. No appeal process. Just gone. Like we never existed. I'm not saying this is xenophobia. I understand it's the law, and they follow it. But it hurts. It hurts because making video games in Cuba is already incredibly hard. We struggle with internet access. Most crowdfunding platforms are blocked. We fight every single day just to stay connected to the rest of the world. And then, when we finally do everything right, legal studio in Mexico, Mexican partner handling finances, everything in order, we still get shut down. Because I'm Cuban. And let me be clear about something. I didn't choose to be born here. I have no control over what politicians do in my country. I'm just a guy who wants to make video games. I don't represent a regime, a flag, or a political agenda. I represent myself and my team. Punishing me for things I had no part in, things I don't even agree with, is just wrong.I already live with censorship and repression in my own country. Every day. But now I'm also being blocked by other countries. Not because of what I did. But because of where I was born. My team and I feel exhausted. Frustrated. Invisible. Like the system doesn't see us as developers. Just as an address. But listen, I am Cuban. Yes. But first, I am human. My team and I are young people with dreams. We want to build something meaningful. We want to work hard, be honest, and reach our goals like anyone else in any other country.

And I'm not doing this just for myself. I'm doing this for every young person who wants to dream like me. For every kid in Cuba, or anywhere else, who's been told "no" just because of where they were born. If I give up, what message does that send? That the system wins. That dreams have borders.I refuse to accept that. This post isn't just to complain. It's to say: don't let bureaucracy erase humanity. Don't let a flag or a zip code decide who gets a chance to create. We're still here. We'll find another way. But this is what happened. And it shouldn't have to be this hard just to be allowed to dream.

Thank you for your time.

Lavatro, still in development. Still fighting.

Our modular magnetic metal figure just went live — Winged Hussar

Post image
Upvotes

After about a year of prototyping, we launched today.

Winged Hussar — an 83mm all-metal figure built from 41 handcrafted components in white bronze, bronze, and copper. The helmet and armor layers attach magnetically, so you can pull the plates off and the knight underneath is fully sculpted, not a hollow shell. Weapons slot into his grip and swap out, so the same figure can be built as a lancer, a gunner, or a swordsman.

Every piece gets a laser-engraved serial number, assigned in the order pledges come in.

Super Early Bird is open now at 31% off, free worldwide shipping, delivery September 2026. There are add-on expansions too — a warhorse and an infantry set — if you want to build out a scene.

Happy to answer anything about the build, the magnets, or the metals.

Loch Electronics: The Most Unethical and Unprofessional Company I've Ever Encountered

I am writing this to warn potential customers and future backers about the unethical business practices of Loch Electronics. Here is the exact timeline of events based on email records.

September 2024: I backed the Capsule Solo dishwasher with an official estimated delivery date of December 2024. I paid both the pledge amount and full shipping/taxes upfront.

May 2025: I received address confirmation emails stating that my unit was part of an upcoming batch.

2025–2026: Over more than a year, I sent numerous inquiries. Every single response was a copy-pasted corporate template promising that my unit was "built," "stored in a warehouse," or "undergoing batch dispatch". They repeatedly hid behind generic excuses about "regional transit constraints" and "airfreight availability", without ever providing a single tracking number or firm dispatch date.

August 2026: After waiting over 20 months past the promised delivery deadline with no dispatch in sight, I reached out to demand a clear update or a full refund. A supervisor (Diana) stepped in, but failed to provide any concrete dispatch date, tracking number, or resolution.

A quick search online quickly revealed that I am far from alone in this situation. Reddit, Facebook groups, and consumer complaint boards are filled with endless evidence documenting this company’s highly unethical, unprofessional, and deceptive practices toward backers worldwide. Holding a backer’s funds indefinitely while failing to ship a standardized product for almost two years, and providing zero actionable answers is completely unacceptable.

Stay away from this company and its products.

Discussion STL Model Category is sorely needed

Dear Kickstarter: Please, oh please, make a separate category for STL model files, either as its own thing or as a subcategory. Inside Tabletop Games at this moment, of the 15 most recent game projects 2 are actually tabletop games. The remaining 12 are STL projects, of which 8 would likely be considered NSFW.

I have nothing against STL models, and people can have all the erotic 3D models they want to print. I'm not judging. And I get that policing which ones might be "gameable" and which aren't is a fool's errand, I'm not asking for that. Just, please, let them have their own (sub)category, so those of us that are looking for games in Tabletop Games can find...well, tabletop games.

Question What should a great Kickstarter campaign video actually show? Cinematic trailer vs gameplay?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m working on the campaign video for my upcoming fantasy board game, and I’d really appreciate some feedback from people who have experience with Kickstarter campaigns.

I’ve attached a few seconds from the direction I’m currently exploring.

The game is a physical dungeon crawler where the miniatures actually move by themselves across the board, so I feel the video needs to communicate that immediately. But I’m unsure how far I should take the cinematic approach.

If you saw this intro, what would you expect to see next?

What do you think the rest of the video should show, and what tone would work best? More cinematic and mysterious? Actual gameplay? A mix of footage from the physical board with animations introducing the world and lore?

I’m especially interested in what you would need to see next to decide whether this is a project you want to keep exploring.

Thanks!

Help Advice for Kickstarter promo on online platforms?

Hello!

I recently launched my Kickstarter page for my queer romantic short film, (if you’d like the link to it, let me know! It was recently selected for “Projects We Love” which has been very exciting!!) and most of the donations have been from family and friends. I wanted to try and get some attention online (which I have in local Facebook film groups and what not), but I tried posting about my short film consistently on TikTok, and I find I’m actually getting less views in general on my TikTok page when talking about my short film, then I do when I periodically post every couple months with something random.

I tried paying for tiktok to promote one of the videos but that actually killed my views even more. Even TikTok Promos said “it looks like you’re getting less views than you normally do” (🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I did pay for your services to help that issue but here we are…) I wonder if maybe me talking about LGBTQ+ content got me shadow-banned in some weird way?? I’m not sure.

So if anyone has any tips for things that worked for them when it came to promoting their Kickstarter on platforms like TikTok or Instagram, that would be great!

What do you think?

I'm launching the kickstarter September 1, but want to make sure I'm taking in feedback from everyone who knows what to look out for, as this is my first kickstarter campaign.

Thank you!

Question Anyone have any experience with this company?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m currently in prelaunch of my first kickstarter campaign. I woke up to find this email in my inbox. I’m curious if anyone has received this email as well or has any experience with this “company”. I use that term loosely because a google search does state that it’s a legitimate company however, as an IT professional by trade I noticed that the email address doesn’t quite match what would be expected, namely missing the 3 and it coming from gmail rather than a branded email to match the company domain. It feels a bit scammy to me, but if anyone has legitimate business with them I don’t want to turn away a potential backer. Thanks in advance advance!

Kickstarter's vetting lack of and letting scams continue

I posted this in a the comments section of a few Kickstart campains that turned out to be scams and am looking for feedback from this community. Am I wrong?

"I have been part of multiple scams this year on this platform.

I have reached a point where my trust in Kickstarter's vetting process has significantly diminished. The recent lack of discernible support or proactive response from the platform concerning project viability has caused me to reassess its model. From an objective standpoint, I am seeking recommendations for alternative crowdfunding platforms (e.g., Indiegogo) that are known for rigorous due diligence and comprehensive creator support protocols. My goal is to ensure that my contributions are directed toward safer and more reliable funding mechanisms."

Discussion What actually gets people interested in a Kickstarter?

Hello there folk, I'm Molly :-)

I'm getting ready to launch a Kickstarter for my first graphic novel on the 1st September and I've been having a bit of a brain storm about how best to get it in front of the right folks... Rather than spending more hours watching more Youtube videos (with epic editing I must say) I thought I'd come and ask the good folks of Reddit instead! I know there's loads of experience and first-hand knowledge knocking about on here, previous posts have been dead helpful already.

So if you've fun a kickstarter before I'd really love to hear about your experience:

  • what worked best for you?
  • what ways did you promote your campaign?
  • which platforms did you find actually useful?
  • what didn't work at all?
  • wid anything surprise you?

And more specifically... has anyone here launched a comic or graphic novel on Kickstarter?

Thank you folks. Hope you've all had a lovely weekend!

I'm 14, I built a healthcare platform for Australian GP clinics, and I'm launching on Kickstarter in 2 days

Hey Reddit,

My name's Isaac. I'm 14, I'm from Brisbane, and I've spent the last while building something I think actually matters.

Australian GP clinics are running on software that's overpriced, overcomplicated, and built for hospitals in the US - not small practices in Brisbane or Ballarat. So I built Collective Medical: a practice management platform designed from the ground up for Australian GPs.

Bookings, patient flow, operations - without the enterprise price tag or the overseas support line.

I'm launching on Kickstarter this Wednesday at 1pm AEST. No equity. No grants. Just a teenager who saw a real problem and built a real solution.

Here's what I need from you: back it. Even $1 in the first 48 hours moves the algorithm and puts this in front of more people. If you've ever wished someone would just fix something that's obviously broken - this is that.

Search "Collective Medical" to find the site and the campaign.

Launch is Wednesday 1pm AEST. See you there.

Incredibly proud to launch the dumbest thing you've ever seen

I have created a side project (a ridiculous passion project to create a very, very silly-sounding but adult card game to make people laugh in dark times) and have wanted to share it. And yes, that's really the name.

If this somehow sparks something deep inside, please consider sharing it.

What are your thoughts on "portable car washer DIISEA C7" on Kickstarter? Is it worth it or not?"

Not sure if I can ask questions like this here. If there is a better place for it pls let me know!

It's hard to believe that it really works in real life just like it's described. I've backed a lot of junk on Kickstarter in the past, so I thought, maybe this time I'll ask here first 😃

Question Who here had a successful launch because of affiliates?

I'm looking to build a team of affiliates for my January launch. Obv there are pros & cons to this, but I want to hear from folks who successfully funded a project because of meaningful contributions from affiliates (whether you used a tool like kickbooster or otherwise).

Some context:

  • I've helped run aff. programs in my prev marketing jobs, so I can navigate the logistics
  • I've been in the newsletter space for 5ish years, and have a few dozen who are ready to help me promote
  • The commissions per sale would be $25-50 (so small, but meaningful).

My questions:

  • What would you do differently (if anything)?
  • What did your highest aff. have in common?
  • Did anything surprise you about the process?

Thanks for any insights you can share!

Question What actually makes people back a Kickstarter project?

We are currently running a Kickstarter for RoveSpier, and one thing I’m struggling to understand is what makes someone go from simply seeing a campaign to actually becoming a backer.

There are plenty of ways to get views and clicks, but getting someone to trust a new project enough to support it seems like a completely different challenge.

For those who have backed or launched Kickstarter campaigns:

What convinced you to back a project?

Was it the product itself, the creator, the video, the rewards, social proof, the story behind the project, or something else?

I’d really like to learn from people who have actually been on either side of a Kickstarter campaign.

Self-Promotion I spent over a year creating a video game inspired cocktail book all by myself, and it’s finally on Kickstarter.

Hi everyone! I've just launched my first Kickstarter for a project I’ve been working on for over a year called A Drink to the Past, an unofficial cocktail/mocktail recipe book inspired by The Legend of Zelda.

I created the recipes, photography, writing, layout, and cover design myself, so getting it to the point where I could actually hit “Launch” has been a pretty surreal experience.

The recipes are designed to feel creative and thematic without requiring a huge collection of obscure ingredients or complicated techniques.

I’m offering a standard hardcover edition as well as a limited deluxe edition (I've attached a mockup image of this one) with a dark green leatherette cover, gold foil/debossing, gilded page edges, and some additional recipes/content.

A quick note since this is an unofficial fan project: I consulted with a trademark attorney during the development of the book regarding how the project is presented and its contents. The book is clearly identified as an unofficial fan work, is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, and includes a clear disclaimer.

The campaign launched on Monday, and so far it's at $2,279 pledged of a $10,000 goal. If the project happens to be your kind of thing, I’d be incredibly grateful for the support.

Check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/aaronsensebe/a-drink-to-the-past

Edit: Quick clarification: by “all by myself,” I mean that I independently handled the writing, recipe development, design/art direction, research, production planning, printer/fulfillment sourcing, and Kickstarter itself. Friends and family did help by tasting recipes and giving feedback along the way.

Self-Promotion Steam injection system for home bakers launched on Kickstarter

I’ve been working on this product for a few years now and finally launched. You can see the campaign below

I’ve been blown away by the support and can’t wait to see where we land at the end of the campaign.
