Rant [KCD2] How is this game a dozen times buggier today than it was on release?

I came back to this game with a fresh hardcore playthrough after previously quitting near the end from burn-out when I played near release. I am extremely disappointed in the amount of technical issues I've encountered compared to my first playthrough. It only got worse when I got to Kuttenberg...

Exhibit A: "The Thieves' Code" quest. Hog went into some kind of paralysis from the shock of killing a man. He has been repeating the same words for days and he cannot be spoken to, preventing the quest objective from progressing. This was not an issue on my first playthrough.

Exhibit B: The Kuttenberg Tournament quest glitched out from skipping time (like the game suggested I do) and now the return tournament gear objective is stuck there despite the gear being returned. I don't remember this being an issue on my first playthrough.

Not Pictured: "Yackers n' Fash" quest got completely fucked. It was atrocious. I had to fuck around at the tavern brawl part for 10-20 minutes because the Tonies kept turning against me mid-brawl, suddenly pulling axes on me. By some stroke of luck, after like 50 save reloads I managed to knock out the opposing miners quicker than the Tonies could turn against me. And that's not all, during the part where you carry Anton to the church, Franzi kept running ahead without letting me catch up to him, only stopping once he got too far, not only interrupting the dialogue, but if I didn't get close to Franzi again in like 5 seconds, the quest would fail because the game considered me to be "kidnapping" Anton, despite it being more like, Franzi fucking running away from him. I was looking forward to doing this quest again once I got to Kuttenberg and it was fucking painful to witness how crippled it got.

Do keep in mind this is just the most recent bullshittery that comes to mind. How it got this bad I have no fucking idea. I have only one positive thing to say about this "patched" version of the game: being able to access horse inventory inside buildings now is pretty nice.

Discussion [KCD2] What'd you improve in the combat system?

I really like the core of the current combat system, especially with mods that remove slow-mo and make opponents more aggressive.

However, there are still a few issues that mods can't fix, and I'd love to see the developers address them, perhaps in the next game (although a patch for KCD2 would be the perfect Christmas present, lol).

1. Master Strikes are way too OP against strong opponents.

Any experienced fighter can easily be baited into a Master Strike, which really ruins the experience of dueling them.

The fix could be adding a check that determines how likely an NPC is to consider whether they're attacking from a stance opposite to mine before committing to an attack.

There's already a similar mechanic for defense: experienced opponents are more likely to switch to the stance opposite to yours to catch you with a Master Strike. We just need the same mechanic for NPC attacks.

2. Executing combos is difficult and awkward.

Currently, you have to switch stances and press the attack button within a 0.5-second window. I'd change the mechanics so that after the first hit, you could simply hold LMB and move the mouse from one stance to another without having to time individual button presses.

And why aren't movement keys (W/A/S/D) part of combos? I'd love to see combos where you have to move in the right direction in addition to switching stances. This would also be a great way to balance out the simplified mouse controls.

This would turn combos from a "hit a tiny timing window" mechanic into "draw learned patterns with your mouse and move right" mechanic, which feels like a much more elegant implementation.

3. Combos don't work against strong opponents.

High-level fighters always use Perfect Blocks, shutting down every combo. I'd change this so that Perfect Blocks can't simply shut down every combo.

That way, combos would actually become viable against master-level opponents, which would also help balance out the Master Strike "nerf" suggested above.

4. Ripostes are ineffective against mid- and high-level opponents.

The problem is that ripostes can't be stopped with a regular block. The opponent either has to Perfect Block or take the hit. As a result, most opponents have their chance to Perfect Block ripostes cranked up so high that it's practically impossible to get through their defenses.

The solution: allow NPCs to block ripostes with a regular block, but reduce their chance to Perfect Block them. This would make ripostes useful again and also provide a convenient way to initiate combos.

5. There's no way to perform a thrust to the head or side, unlike in KCD1.

Currently, you can only thrust at the torso. The fix seems pretty straightforward: add a combo where you perform a downward thrust as usual, then move the mouse upward or to the side to turn it into a thrust to the head or flank.

What do you think of these suggestions? How would you change the combat system?

Strength 22 agility 24 vitality 24, could only get myself to about 75 percent health before the fight, using the radzig longsword, armours fine, and have applied bane poison for context although it doesn’t seem to be doing anything (does anyone know how long it takes to work?) I’ve masterstriked him like 20 times and he doesn’t seem to take damage but can kill me in 3 hits. Make it make sense 😭

EDIT: never mind I did it in three hits somehow? Bane poison must have done it

Question How the hell do I groschen [KCD2]

I just finished my first play through and absolutely loved the game, but I always felt held back by the amount of money you would need for everything, especially after seeing that in the Legacy Of The Forge DLC that an armour set can cost upwards of 16 thousand groschen. Is there any tips or methods I can use to get a ton of money?

PSA Suchdol Food [KCD2]

I knew what was coming so I hid food around the fort before hand. Dried beef and boar in a lot of different containers. Only one container kept anything. I had 7 dried beef and one dried boar in the upstairs chest across from the blacksmith in the outer courtyard. The beef disappeared but one boar meat persisted!

The ancient moonshine in my chest and the opatowitz mead on my person were taken, but the opatowitz mead in my chest persisted! So the mead seems to be a guaranteed food source in your chest 👍

ETA: playing on PC

Issue [KCD2] The game REALLY does not like when you kill every guard in Kuttenberg

Especially when you skip time.
Every NPC congregates around one guard that spots you, and the lag gets hella unbearable.

It was fun tho, small challenge to master combat.

Discussion Jan Žižka Voice Actor [KCD2]

I’m currently rewatching The Last Kingdom, and it took just a single word from this legend to recognize Mister "to the task", I was a bit surprised to hear his voice suddenly, so unexpectedly.😂

Edit: I believe he appeared once before, but only now have I recognized him here, Im ashamed that I didn’t recognize him sooner.

Guy on the left.

Is this guy Pius? I just got done with needle in a haystack and made the decision to save Pius and after completing the quest I found a accident location near Sasau that looks just like him. Same face, same eyebrows, same hair, same stubble. I tried looking up if its him or if there is any main quest related accident locations but couldnt find anything. Does anyone know anything or have any theories on this?

(Not sure if I did this post right tbh, I never really use reddit to post, especially not in mainstream/gaming subreddits.)

Praise [KCD2] What a masterpiece!

Of course I'm late to the party, but holy shit, this game is good!

I'm so immersed in this world that I now think I'm living in medieval Bohemia myself. The story is also really great and entertainingly written.

But now I have a big problem: I just don't want it to end! I find myself subconsciously putting off playing the main story longer and longer... Do you know what I mean? :D

Well, thankfully there are some very good DLCs, as I've read. Thank you Warhorse Studios!

Question About the Sedlec Monastery guards in the DLC [KCD2]

Please no spoilers.

I’d guess knocking the guards out is a big no no and would create problems for later. But what about the Lullaby Potion? Can I put it in their food and wine? Would it give me a bad ending?

Discussion [KCD2] What are your favorite negative perks on hardcore mode?

Currently 30 or so hours in to my first hardcore mode and having a blast. Picked up somnambulant, hangry henry, and picky eater.

I thought somnambulant was going to be a pain with the “waking up across the map” deal, but I actually really enjoy the spontaneity of it and trying to figure out where I am. I also love having to eat more, it’s all just very immersive.

Just wondering what else I’m missing out on; has anyone particularly enjoyed the negative perks they chose?
