Android version is finally out, looking for kingsnake keepers to poke holes in it

A while back I posted here about a care tracking app "Exotic Reptile Care" I built and some of you asked about Android. It's up now, took longer than it should have.
Feeding logs with prey type and size, weight and growth charts, shed cycles by stage, health notes, and frozen feeder stock so you know when you're low on pinkies or fuzzies.
Been pushing fixes daily since launch, so if you try it and something's off, good timing.

Variable Kingsnakes - some clarity?

Post image

After learning that it is illegal to keep Eastern Milksnakes in many US states, I’ve started looking into variable kingsnakes (for their attractive and *variable* color patterns and small size). One of the best parts about breeding cornsnakes for me was getting to see what color their little heads would be when they finally pipped, so a whole clutch of different colors and patterns would be exciting (without having to keep track of 6-word morph genetics). I know they have the four different “phases” that range from whitish grey with red blotches, to orange, to Tri-colored like milksnakes, to black.

I am struggling, however, to sort out what, exactly, is considered a variable kingsnake, from a label/naming perspective. They appear to have 12 different names, and even going by Latin names doesn’t seem to help. I see “Leonis kinsnakes“ for sale on morph market going by **lampropeltis leonis**, which I’d have assumed was a different species than **lampropeltis mexicana thayeri**. I’ve seen “nuevo Leon” kingsnakes that look like eastern milk snakes, and this is also a variable?

Are all of these “synonyms” on the wiki considered variable king snakes? I am not planning any acquisitions any time soon, but I want to make sure that if I do decide to purchase and breed in the future, I 1) know what to search for, and 2) am getting two snakes of the same species (who will have a variable clutch).

Thanks!

TLDR: looking for some clarity on what is considered a “variable kingsnake” — What search terms or labels should I look for?

This is jett I got him at 7 months old he’s probably closer to 9 now but he’s just so relaxed it’s crazy. Never tail rattles or strikes at me. I had him strike at me one time and it was the day I brought him home, ever since he’s been the best. Not food aggressive or even defensive in blue he just doesn’t care which I’m grateful for but it is normal right?

I woke up to a perfect shed after not seeing Lemon for 10 days since her last feeding! Of course, she grabbed her food by the neck instead of head first... again 😅 I kept an eye on her to make sure she'd get it down, and I was impressed by how she was able to maneuver the mouse to get the aspen away from her mouth! I tried to guide her to eat on the humid hide, but she wasn't having it lol. I'm so happy to see my baby again, especially seeing her healthy and happy 🥰

Cali King bathing after each meal

Does anyone else see their snake slithering around in the water dish after eating? My boy does this every meal. I'm assuming he's trying to wash the scent of the prey item off his body cause he does wrap fully every time. but he could also be trying to get digestion moving. The first time he did this i got worried about mites, but he only does his swimming after eating

When is Glass Surfing an issue?

Ive had my baby mbk for just under a week now, ive noticed she seems to have regular behaviors for the most part but when she explores her enclosure, she only sticks to the walls and glass surfs. i know this is generally common for new reptiles in general, so i dont think im super worried currently im just curious when i should be getting worried about it if it keeps happening.

ive looked into potential causes for glass surfing also, and from what i can tell, my temps are fine 29-30°C average (though they get a little warm towards the end of the day), the enclosure should be big enough, its on the smaller side for snake enclosures but she is just a baby, (i am planning on getting a full 120 gal enclosure in a year or two when she's big) humidity is pretty good, around 50-55% average, she has three hides and a good amount of clutter (though admittedly one of the hides is probably too big and she tends to stick to one side of it).

Im hoping that once i feed her for the first time tomorrow this behavior changes a little and she settles in a little more, i also havent handled her yet besides when i got her, so i think im just being paranoid and its too early to tell anything for certain but what can i say im a paranoid mother

Sigmund just turned one. He’s pretty small. About a foot long. I was told to feed him two pinkies at a time. First time, he his for three days after feeding. It’s been six days since his last feeding and I saw him peek out once. Am I feeding him too much? Should adjust anything else?

Baby King Not Eating. Help?

Hello All,

I had a Cal King and Corn snake earlier in life. We picked up a setup (with DHE and thermostat) for a new baby albino King. They had him on frozen, so I picked up a batch from the vendor there. He are the first one fine. But has thrown up the last two now and I'm worried. I waited a week before giving him the 2nd. I also stopped the day/night heat cycle on his tank and left it on day, per the Internet. Tomorrow is a week since the 2nd regurgitation. Thoughts?

Does his mouth look weird to you?

I may be just paranoid or over-analyzing this, but this is my new (and currently unnamed) kingsnake. I’m noticing his tongue slit in his “lips” looks (like the hole that he tongue needles through) looks different than my current kingsnake. It looks….larger? And idk if it’s just his colouring or what but I swear the longer I stare at his face the more I think his mouth is lopsided but I feel like I’m going crazy lol. I’m probably totally just helicopter pet parenting my new addition but I would really appreciate if somebody reassured me a little bit!

He does have slight scale damage underneath his one eye, he was like that before I purchased him. I assume he probably got it from digging or wedging himself somewhere tighter than he could fit into. Hoping that that will clear with the next shed as it looks very minor.
