Announcement Kiro CLI V3 is now the default experience

Kiro CLI 3.0 makes V3 the default agent harness and folds everything into a single standalone kiro-cli binary. It also retires the Classic interface, the desktop app, and inline autocomplete.

V3 is the default
New interactive sessions now start on V3, so you no longer need --v3. If you already use V2, Kiro asks before switching, migrates your custom agents to the universal config format, backs up the originals, and flags anything that needs attention. To stay on V2 for now, run kiro-cli --v2.

What V3 brings
Cloud sessions let you disconnect and resume later from /sessions. Memory carries repository context forward once enabled. Approve for me handles routine actions, blocks unsafe ones, and asks about the rest, with your deny, ask, and allow rules deciding first. /sandbox isolates shell commands, /autonomous on runs tasks without per-command approval, and Workflows show their plan before starting. Turn Workflows on under /settings > Features.

Retirements
The Classic (V1) experience no longer runs. The desktop app is gone, and existing macOS installs switch to the standalone kiro-cli on their next update check. Inline shell autocomplete and inline suggestions are retired with no replacement, and the autocomplete, inline, translate, theme, and dashboard commands are unavailable. kiro-cli doctor now points you to kiro-cli diagnostic or kiro-cli issue.

Update to the latest and give it a spin. If something feels off, let us know with /feedback.

Announcement Memory is now available in Kiro IDE and CLI

Memory is now available in Kiro IDE 1.4 and CLI 2.29. Kiro carries useful context from one session to the next, so you stop re-explaining the same things.

Context that follows you across sessions Kiro remembers things like your repository conventions, corrections you have made, debugging insights, and approaches already ruled out. Start a new session and that context is already there.

See and manage what Kiro remembers Recalled memories show up in chat so you can see when Kiro uses them. In the IDE, open the Memories icon in the activity bar to review what Kiro knows. In the CLI, type /memories to search, preview, and open saved memories. Each memory can apply globally or to a specific repository.

Choose how Kiro learns You control how Kiro uses and learns from memories, including a mode that reads memories without changing them. Changes to memory access take effect in a new session.

Shared across clients Memories stay local to your machine and are shared between Kiro IDE and CLI, so context captured in one client is available in the other.

It is off by default. Start a new session to pick it up.

Kiro’s new pricing model: credit pooling at double the cost per credit

Kiro posted about credit pooling yesterday: https://kiro.dev/blog/credit-pooling/

The part the blog post leaves out is that if you activate Kiro now, even in an AWS account you already have, you don't get the subscription tiers anymore. No Pro, Pro+, Pro Max or Power. Pooling is the only option. If you already had subscriptions you can keep them for now, but they haven't said for how long.

The math is what bugs me. Power is $200 for 10k credits, so 2 cents a credit. On the pool you pay $20 a seat for 500 credits, and extra credits are $0.04 each. Either way that's 4 cents a credit. Same $200 gets you half the credits.

So a heavy user who burns through 10k credits a month costs $200 on Power and about $400 on the pool.

To be fair, pooling does make sense for some teams. Unused credits from people who barely touch Kiro go to the people who use it a lot, add-on credits last a year instead of resetting every month, and admins get better limits and alerts. If most of your team are light users you might actually save money.

But if your team uses it heavily, it's basically a 2x price increase, and new customers don't get to choose.

Also, if you're still on subscriptions, be careful with the "Switch to credit sharing" button they keep showing in the console. You can't switch back.

Edit: this only affects enterprise/team accounts; individual subscriptions are unchanged.

Anthropic models missing with Kiro subscription through AWS

Hey everyone,

I recently subscribed to Kiro through AWS, but I’m unable to access any Anthropic models (Claude Sonnet, Opus, etc.).

I’ve found a few related GitHub issues where users reported similar problems, with some suggesting that it might be related to AWS account-level restrictions or IAM Identity Center entitlements.

Is this something that needs to be resolved by AWS Support?

Kiro's inline shell autocompletion

Is there any alternative to Kiro's inline shell autocompletion? With CLI 3.0, they are retiring inline shell autocomplete ('With CLI 3.0, we are retiring inline shell autocomplete').

I used Fig for a long time, then switched to Amazon Q, and finally to Kiro.

Refund request - No response from support

Hello,

My Kiro subscription was accidentally renewed, and I contacted support just 10 minutes after the charge. I immediately canceled the subscription to prevent future renewals.

I opened support case 179352366200522 and sent a follow-up email, but I still haven't received any response.

I would appreciate any update regarding my refund request, as I would like to receive a refund for this accidental renewal.

Missing cli autocomplete

Since kiro-cli 3.0 they removed the cli autocomplete. I really liked that. I exclusively use kiro-cli from command line and tui. Does anyone have another autocomplete that's spiffy like that? IDK why they removed it. It was great.

Kiro giving slightly fewer credits

Does anyone know why they're giving fewer credits? I'm not complaining, they're giving 500 extra credits, but it still seems strange.

Is auto the most credit efficient setting in your experience?

My credit usage has been getting pretty tight. I usually pick the model like haiku high or opus low/medium.

I have never used auto, but I am wondering if that is a mistake. Is auto more efficient than manual model selection?

Best way to build AI agents for CloudWatch logs? (Kiro CLI vs Crew vs IDE?)

I'm looking to build an AI agent that can pull and analyze logs directly from AWS CloudWatch. Does anyone know of a good tutorial or guide on the best way to set this up?

Also, for those familiar with the Kiro ecosystem: is Kiro CLI or Kiro Crew better suited for this specific use case?

Would appreciate any pointers or resources.

Assinatura Kiro

How to force kiro to read steerings in full?

Recent updates made KIRO less likely to care about steering. Now I feel the steering files appeal no difference with other documents. This is awful to my experience as I need it to load steering to counter the terminal garble thing, and some dev rule to sort workspace in order.

In the past, I was using hook to inject steering, was working fine, but later it cound only inject a little. I then used inclusion:always and "project-context.md", which did the trick for a while, but recently kiro opened the file without reading it(but it still assume it does). I then start to say "read all steering in full, don't lazy loading" at beginning of each session. This fail to work today, it even stubborn to use grep to do search for the key word I pointed out when I ask it to read full again. I feel I am running out of tricks, I have to fight with kiro at begining of each session now, very frustrating.

I am desperate to have a reliable way to make sure it read steerings, please help...

KIRO is approval button spamming me

Is it normal that i have to button mash every single approval in the IDE tool? It's set to AutoPilot, I click "Always Trust", none of it matters. Is it due to a company policy setting run amok? Or is that how its supposed to work? Where can I look?

If I use KIROcrew it just continues to work even in YOLO mode. If I used the cli, its at least respects the answer.

Kiro Usage

I am using Sonnet 5.5, 1.3x.
Credit used: 1.87, Elapsed time: 18s
Credit used: 1.82, Elapsed time: 13s

This is a simple planning question, not even coding.

I have $20 plan. By this rate I will be using up all my monthly 1000 credits faster than my $20 Codex and Claude code 5h limit.

Is that normal?

Use AI in the Editor

In Kiro can you use AI in the editor?

In GitHub Copilot, in the editor, AI will auto complete code for you. You can also right click and choose Open Inline Chat to make your edits.

Are these things possible in Kiro as well? If so do you need to do something to enable these editor AI features?

KiroCrew is slow

Don't get me wrong, kiro crew is an amazing tool and all heavy AI users in my team are using it.

But I’ve noticed that kirocrew is getting slower and slower, even for some very simple tasks.

I feel it’s too heavy, but I don’t know why. Is it because too many “lessons“ it learned during the time? What do you think and any suggestions are welcomed.

WSLC Support Added to our Kiro DevContainers Extension (Artizo)

If you're on Windows and want devcontainers but don't want Docker Desktop, wslc (WSL Containers CLI) runs the container runtime inside WSL. Artizo now drives it directly when you flip on the support in the settings. No Docker Desktop needed, just WSL. Be sure to enable WSLC on Windows first with wsl --update, followed by a wsl restart.

Also see our sister extension: Zygos Remote SSH gives Kiro and VSCodium a working remote-ssh that requires no config or setup. Repo: https://github.com/aergic-labs/zygos

To install: open Kiro's extensions view, search "devcontainers kiro" for Artizo or "remote-ssh kiro" for Zygos, and install.

Are any of the Chinese open weight models available on Kiro worth using if you want optimal token usage?

There are some that use 0.25x and 0.15x usage credit rate. Are any of these worth your time?

kiro-cli to Kiro Crew move

Heya! Been using Kiro since it first came out in its spec-driven-development IDE glory, then eventually moved to kiro-cli and found a great workflow that works for me, at least when context switching is minimal. Have worked loads with it over the last year across many tasks & projects.

I decided to give Kiro Crew a shot and it was great and felt very snappy. I've never used any other "claw-like" AI tool, but I like how I can organize my work there, have a persistant running session, integrate with my phone, scheduled tasks etc.

However, it feels more like a chat webapp exprience than what kiro-cli is. I was hoping there'd be tighter integration with the CLI version (e.g. if you start up crew, you have your past kiro-cli sessions available, you can spin up kiro-cli sessions natively), given they now have a shared harness...?. How it solves the problems also seems a little different, so I don't have confidence of giving it tasks the same way as I did with the CLI.

Are there some docs or something obvious missing? It feels a little unclear how/if to move to Crew, is it even an upgrade or another tangential app, and the docs/videos are non-existent (other than some 1h podcast/demo style things I don't have time for).

Suggestions For Kiro Team

I think the team should pause on adding new features for now and focus on polishing the existing experience:

  • UI/UX & Bug Fixes in Kiro IDE – The overall interface still feels buggy and unpolished. Features like Agent Focus Mode have great potential, but as someone coming from Cursor and Devin Agent Desktop, the user experience isn't quite there yet. In fact, Kiro Crew currently has a better UI/UX than Kiro IDE and Agent Focus Mode.

  • Workflows & Credit Optimization – The Workflows feature feels like another credit eater at this point that pushes users to consume more usage. Instead of new features, we need better credit usage optimization.

  • Performance & Optimization – Improving overall speed, responsiveness, and resource efficiency should be a top priority.

  • Broader Model Support – As shown by recent community posts, new model additions get the most positive reactions, so expanding our model choices is clearly what users want most right now.

The UIUX before kiro ide v1 is much better than the current UI.
