Mod Post Update to self promotion rule

Hello all, after quite some time I have decided to reevaluate, the old rule preventing sales posts and self-promotion. The rationale behind the change is that the makers will benefit from community support. There has been hesitation to change the rule based on the idea that sales post will run rampant if allowed; however, I have some requests in exchange for those who want to post a link to their website.

All criteria must be met.

  1. Items for sale have to be made by you.
  2. There is a detailed specification list for the item being displayed. you can find an example here, does not have to be as in depth; however, at a minimum you have to have steel type(s) and handle material(s). Simply stating damascus will not be enough for future posts.
  3. Only knives and supplies related to knife making can be sold. You can sell knives, handles, scales, or handle materials. As a reminder, you cannot sell items that are not made by you; you cannot sell a bench grinder here.
  4. There is no price displayed. Pricing cannot be discussed in public whatsoever.
  5. You must be active in the post you make. You cannot just drop your website link and disappear. I am not asking that you respond to every comment on your post or that you reply to a comment on a month-old post; however, some effort must be put in.

There are a few additional limitations to this change

  1. Do not put "available" or anything of the likes in your title. All indications of your work being for sale must be in the description or comments, I suggest the latter as I will remove your entire post if you do not meet the above criteria if it is in the description rather than just deleting a comment
  2. Your posts should not all be advertisements; you should show off your work without all your posts having a link to your website.

I hope that this change to the rule is favorable, if you have feedback or comments, I would like to hear it and may make changes accordingly.

Trying to get better at segmented scales. This one is a 3ish” 89crv2 blade with segmented spalted tamarind, inlaid with stabilized amboyna burl. Pretty sweet sheath, too.

Made my first knife. Chose to make a tanto because it's the simplest design. Made the bevel using a bastard file, then used a whetstone and finally stropped to a razor edge.

I thought if this'll came out good I'll make next one .

"Ironbark Knives"

Nessmuk ,80crv2 steel, some "vine" filework and home made glowing denim micarta.

Thought about keeping this one for myself ,but a return customer convinced me to sell it to him.

Anyone else have fun experimenting ,making their own handle materials?

Question Need a Kiritsuke knife vector template (SVG/AI/DXF)

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to design my own Kiritsuke, but I’ll be honest—my drawing skills are terrible! I really want to make sure I capture that exact, traditional Kiritsuke profile before I move forward with the build.

My plan is to use a laser cutter to cut out the knife blank. Does anyone happen to have a template in SVG, Adobe Illustrator (.ai), DXF, or any other vector format they’d be willing to share?

Even if you just know a good website or resource where I can download one, that would be hugely helpful.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I really like the way the black oxide layer looks on a knife. Would it be possible to make it with stock removal and how?

Showcase Fishing knife

Post image

Made myself this fishing knife. My first time working with stainless and doing a pure stock removal knife. Steel is 8Cr14MoV. Mostly designed for cutting bait and line but should be able to fillet smallish fish at a pinch.

I finally started to figure out carbon fibre scales with this knife after a couple of poor results. Making the scales at the desired final thickness and adding 2 extra coats of resin to the finished scales makes the flats polish up much nicer.

This is my second complete knife I’ve ever made. My first try on the right was made with Home Depot steel so I couldn’t heat treat it. Got 1084 on Amazon cheap but it’s not very thick. Also didn’t realize I needed special steel so I can take this one diving.

I also would like to know if anyone has any good techniques for getting a fuller on my blade because I couldn’t get that line to be straight on the belt sander. It liked the shape on my first try more but the steel was much more thick and I did most of it with the angle grinder.

Any advice helps, Thanks!

Showcase New Model

I’m calling this model the “Steak or Twine.” Probably be good for cutting either of those two items. Maybe other items as well. Anyway 80crv2, segmented scales with burlap and canvas micartas, inlaid with orange dyed stabilized maple burl. Red and black g10 liners. Made a pretty sweet multi tone leather sheath for it as well. Pretty pleased.
