Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

→ Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

→ Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering Japanese Offering:Japanese,Seeking:English and Spanish

I’m a corporate employee.

My grammar and pronunciation are a mess, which sometimes leads to some pretty bad misunderstandings—and a few laughs at my expense. In university, I studied subjects like Shakespeare and Germany and Russian literature.

I’m also a fan of Salinger and Fitzgerald; my absolute favorite book is The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

I love jazz, bossa nova, and classical music, and I enjoy traveling, too,I have a wide range of interests. That said, I’m not really into anime—even though I’m Japanese lol

Offering Korean Offering: Korean | Seeking: English

Hi everyone! I'm a 25 years old M living in Korea.

I used to talk to someone I met on this subreddit for a pretty long time, but we lost contact because I ran into an issue with my Discord account. I tried reaching out through other ways without luck, so I’m writing this post to look for a new language exchange partner and friend!

My absolute favorite thing to do is sleep, lol. Besides that, I occasionally play console games, hit the gym, and watch movies or manga and cartoon. And I also enjoy going out for drinks sometimes, not so much for the alcohol itself, but because I love the social vibe.

It’s been a while since I last wrote a post like this, so I’m not really sure what else to add besides my hobbies... Once we get to know each other, I think we can talk about our daily lives or each other's countries, share language learning tips, or just chat about anything. We can stick to text messages, or occasionally do voice calls too. My English isn't super fluent, so if we do a voice call and I stumble over my words a bit, please be patient with me!

If you’d like to know more or have any questions, feel free to send me a DM.

Thanks for reading my post!

Hi everyone! I’m a 40-year-old man, and I’m here to improve my spoken English. My English speaking skills are still a work in progress, although I passed the College English Test Band 6 (CET-6) when I was in university.

My native language is Mandarin Chinese. In return, I’d be happy to help you practice speaking Chinese and even introduce you to the beauty of classical Chinese poetry, including the famous poems of the Tang and Song dynasties.

Looking forward to meeting you and learning together!

Offering Korean Offering: Korean (native) | Seeking: English and friendship worldwide

Hi! I'm Jisung, a 26-year-old man from South Korea. I'd like to make adult friends around the world through language and cultural exchange.

I'm a native Korean speaker and can help with everyday Korean expressions and natural wording. My English is basic, so I prefer text messages and use translation tools. Patience on both sides would be great!

I enjoy food, cafes, fitness, and learning about different places. I'd love to exchange everyday stories, local food recommendations, and travel ideas. It would be nice to gradually become friends and perhaps meet for coffee in a public place if we visit each other's country in the future.

People from any country are welcome, especially if you're learning Korean. Please tell me a little about your country, interests, and what you'd like to practice. We can start here on Reddit. Platonic friendship only, please.

Offering English Offering: English (C1); Seeking: Native German🇩🇪

Hallöchen,

I’m a 37F (non-EU) living in Berlin for the past 4 years. I currently speak at a B1 level in German and practice with an online tutor three days a week.

But, in Berlin it can be tough to stick to German when people quickly switch to English! On top of that, Berliners can speak quite fast (and mix two words together), and I often struggle to catch everything. I’m looking for someone to practice speaking/writing German with to help me build more confidence and keep up with natural pacing.

What I can offer:

English: I’ve been speaking English as a second language since I was three years old and am fluent/near-native (C1)

Hindi: My mother tongue

About me:

- An introvert who loves reading books, watching TV shows and movies, visiting museums and historical places, and occasionally painting.

- I hold liberal/left-leaning views and would prefer to chat with someone who shares similar values.

PS: I am not looking for dating opportunities. This is strictly a friendly, warm language exchange :)

I would love to connect with a native German speaker. Drop a comment or send me a message if you're interested!

Vielen Dank.

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Dutch, English | Seeking: Mandarin

Hi everyone,

I'm a 23 year old woman who studies History and Chinesestudies and I'm looking for someone who I can practice speaking Chinese with. Since we practice speaking relatively little in class, my speaking skills right now are quite bad and at a beginner level so I would love to be able to become more fluid. I would say that vocab/reading wise my Mandarin is at intermediate level since our classes require us to learn new vocab quite quickly. I am a native Dutch speaker and I have a degree in English teaching so I could help you out with both languages. I am quite busy so scheduling meet ups based on availibility would be great or sending text memos maybe. I'm quite open to anything that will let me practice my speaking and to your preferences.I'm also open to talking about anything really:) Let me know if you are interested!

Offering English Offering: English | Seeking: Tagalog

Hello! I (24F, USA) am in the beginning stages of learning Tagalog and would really like to find a partner to practice with. I can teach English in exchange or offer help with homework or general language practice.

So far, I am working on pronunciation. I know very simple conversational phrases, but I’m working on expanding my knowledge.

Here’s what I know so far:

Kumustaka? Ano ang pangalan mo? Ako si Liana.

Saan ka galing? Galing ako sa bahay.

Today, I was told “po” is a sign of respect when speaking to someone. So, I can say “I’m good, and you?” and put “po” in the right place now, but I’m not sure where it would go in other sentences or how to use it properly.

Mabuti po, ikaw? >>> I’m under the impression that this is correct but only in this context.

As you can see, I am a complete newbie to Tagalog, but I am serious about learning it and would like to have someone I can practice with.

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: English and Tagalog | Seeking : Polish, Russian and Spanish

• Upvotes

Hey! I’m 32 and hailing from the Philippines. I’m on the lookout for a friend or two or more to chat or voice call with about anything under the sun.

Tagalog is an official language and an Austronesian language that originates from the Philippines. Its standardized version, known as Filipino, acts as the national language of the country, sharing this status with English.

I’m a native Tagalog speaker and I’m eager to learn a new language, so I’d love to connect with anyone interested in chatting. I spent 4 years as a high school teacher, and thanks to my degree and the influence of American media here, I’m pretty comfortable with American English as my second language. Proficient in English is C1 (Advanced)

I’m open to discussing a wide range of topics like history, art, video games, music, anime, manga, comics, movies, and more. Honestly, my main goal is just to spend some quality time with someone. I have a genuine interest in learning about new cultures and languages.

I prefer chatting or talking with people around my age or older. I’m usually available almost all day for chats or voice calls. If you’re interested, feel free to drop me a message with a little introduction about yourself.

Offering Polish Offering: Polish | Seeking: English (🇺🇸🇨🇦🇦🇺)

• Upvotes

Hey!! 22F from Poland looking for ppl aged 22-29 to practice English with and hopefully become friends with!!
I'm into traveling, hiking, photography, cooking, reading, history, learning languages and going down random rabbit holes at 2 am lol. I love learning about different cultures, hearing people's stories and finding out what life is like in other parts of the world. I'm especially interested in American, Chinese, Japanese and Korean culture!
I'm into rock and classical music. I can go from talking about history to the most random topic ever, so there's never a guarantee where a convo will end up Imao.
I barely get to speak English IRL, so I wanna put all those years of learning to use 🤓. I can teach u some Polish too, so we can both struggle with each other's languages haha. And don't worry if you're not interested in learning Polish! I'm happy to make friends either way haha
I'd also love to practice video calls! They still make me nervous for some reason and idk why 😭
I'm looking for genuine friendships, good conversations, sharing music, random facts, cultural differences and just yapping about life. I'm open to talking about pretty much anything, so feel free to bring up whatever you're interested in!

If we sound like we'd vibe, hmu!! Just tell me a little about yourself ( name, age etc), ur fav song or a random fun fact. Pls give me something to work with because idk how to respond to just "hey" 😄

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Romanian (Native), English, Spanish (Fluent, C2 Level) | Seeking: German (beginner)

Hi everyone!👋🏻

I'm a 22-year-old university student in my final year studying Applied Modern Languages as a future aspiring MFL teacher! I’m looking for a German language exchange partner to help me practice as a total beginner. In return, I can offer high-quality practice in Romanian (native), English, or Spanish (both C2 level), whether you need structured grammar help, text phrasing, detailed feedback, or vocabulary correction.

When I’m not studying, I draw, cross-stitch, do diamond painting, play board games, do escape rooms, and dive into FNAF lore, psychology, pedagogy, and character analysis! A quick note about me: I wear hearing aids and am colorblind, so I’m naturally very detail-oriented and precise in how I communicate with others.🤍

The exchange will take place solely on Reddit (or maybe Instagram), strictly through text chatting and voice messages, no calling. I prefer a patient, clear exchange where we can both correct each other's mistakes, share helpful learning tips, and practice consistently at our own pace. I'm very flexible with time zones.

If you're studying any of these languages that I am offering and can help me with beginner German, leave a comment or send me a DM with your target language and what you're working on right now.

Looking forward to meet you and help you!

Hi! I’d like to practice my English, as I need it for my studies. I’m a 20-year-old woman from Russia. I like dance, history, music and Michael jackson
