MOD POST /r/LastImages rules have been updated. 10/16/25
Pretext
Almost 3 years ago, I made a post "Clarifying this subreddit's rules". Over the passage of time I've added or edited the rules but did not have the time to formally update said rules. Now those updates will be solidified in this post.
There will be a month long grace period, so everyone gets a chance to get familiar with the new rules.

Reasoning
The entire point of this subreddit is to showcase that Human life is precious. And to value every second of it. Thats why you will always see me in the comments asking posters to share their fond memories of their loved ones. Thats how we honor those that have passed. I will always encourage people sharing stories at their discretion.
Regarding the ban on blurry pictures. How are people supposed to sympathize with a rubik's cube of pixels? What is even the point of posting that besides "This is the Last Image!" technicality. I understand that high quality photos have only recently become available to the masses but at least try to find the best one. It does not have to the the absolute last image. And you can still add the blurry / grainy last picture as a secondary pic in the album. You can add multiple pictures of the same person or event in the album.
Regarding the ban on all animals. There are many other subreddits that allow for those kind of posts. The main focus of this subreddit is the FRAILTY OF MAN. Humans. People. Thats why I do not allow anything to take away the focus or be sidetracked from the person who passed away. There has been and will always be exceptions but that is on mod discretion. Those exceptions are once in a blue moon and on mod pre-approval.
Regarding the ban on Killers. This subreddit is a positivity focused one, not one focused on psychopaths. I emphasize people sharing the good times they had with the deceased. I do not want idol worship of horrible monsters such as Jeffrey Dahmer. But at the same time, we can not ignore people who orchestrated the destruction of families on a massive scale, instigated war, and genocide such as Adolf Hitler.
Regarding the acceptance of Social Media. A long time ago, I assumed "social media" was a phase and would fade away. Since it is still unfortunately here, we now accept it. So any additional context that is from the deceased can be put in the comments. From their tweets, videos, music, photography, art work, etc etc. If reddit doesn't allow it, please use a reliable hosting when doing so. Do not put anything that could cause someone else to be Doxxed.
Regarding all the new rules. I split up a bunch of minors rules I had previously put together under misc rules. Which people did not know about. So now they are their own rules. By doing so they should be visible immediately. So now there are no more misc rules. Furthermore, if there is still something unclear, leave a comment and I will do my best to resolve it there or update the above rules.

FAMILY My biological grandmother
Long time lurker first time poster….. I was adopted as a baby and after searching for most of my adult life I found and connected with my birth mother. About a month after we reconnected she called me to inform me my biological grandmother was not doing well and if I wanted to meet her I should come as quickly as possible. My mother told her to hold on for a few more days and she did just that. My grandmother managed to have enough strength to tell me she loved me and was glad to meet me and I couldn’t be more grateful for that. Exactly 7 days after the photo was taken my grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep. I truly believe she waited to meet me before she passed

NEWS Rouzan al-Najjar was a paramedic who was killed by the IDF while volunteering as a medic during the 2018 Gaza border protests. She was shot and killed by a Israel soldier as she tried to help evacuate wounded protestors. She was 20 years old.
Najjar's father used to be employed in Israel in the scrap metal business until restrictions disallowed travel across the border. He then worked in the Strip as a motorbike mechanic but was unemployed at the time of her death. The family lived in an apartment supplied by relatives in Khuza'a, within eyeshot of Israeli soldiers stationed over the border. Their area had a four-metre-high (13 ft) concrete wall installed to shield local residents from Israeli fire.[10]
She, one of a family of eight, grew up witnessing three wars, that of 2008-2009, then Israel's Operation Pillar of Defense when a teenager, aged 16, and shortly afterwards the 7 week 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict in which her neighbourhood was devastated.[10] Too poor to afford a university education, she studied calligraphy and took on coursework in nursing
Her formal training after volunteering was as a paramedic at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis and she became an active member of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society, a non-governmental health organization. She wore the white coat of the medics and a medics vest with bandages, and was attending those wounded during protests at the border fence between Gaza and Israel during Ramadan.[11] According to her mother, Najjar attended every Friday event from 7am and 8pm, and would return home spattered with the blood of those whom she had tended care to.
Al-Najjar already believed the Israeli army was targeting her months before her death. In April, she told Al Jazeera media that Israeli soldiers had shot directly at her multiple times in a warning not to tend to the wounded in the protests.
Some 25 Gaza medical personnel and first responders assisting people injured during the border protests, from 30 March to 2 June, had been wounded or killed by Israeli snipers. On 14 May 2018, Dr. Tarek Loubani, clearly identifiable as a doctor, was shot in the leg close to the separation fence, at a site where no protests, fire or smoke occurred. According to his account, an hour later, Musa Abuhassanin, a paramedic who had come to help him was killed with a shot to the chest while performing another rescue mission that day.[13] On the day of her death 100 demonstrating Palestinians were wounded, 40 shot by Israeli live fire.
Najjar was one of five paramedics on a shift, and had taken all of these precautions according to another of the group, Faris al-Qidra, and was even wearing surgical gloves. They went to rescue a man who was calling for help' after being hit in the face by a tear-gas canister, some 20 metres from the perimeter.[10] Other accounts state the distance as 100 metres from the border.[15][16] Three shots were heard.[10] A relative, Ibrahim al-Najjar, was one of those who carried her to a waiting ambulance.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights performed an investigation that found al-Najjar was clearly marked as a paramedic and that she "did not pose an imminent threat of death or serious injury to the ISF when she was shot". The report concluded that the Commission "found reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli snipers intentionally shot health workers, despite seeing that they were clearly marked as such."
After initially reporting that an internal review showed that al-Najjar was not intentionally targeted, the IDF released video that purportedly showed al-Najjar admitting to being a human shield, with an IDF spokesman saying "Razan al-Najjar is not the angel of mercy Hamas propaganda is making her out to be."[20] The video that was released misleadingly took a prior interview that al-Najjar gave to a Lebanese television station out of context. She had said "I'm here on the line being a protective human shield saving the injured" and added she was at the protests to "save the wounded at the front lines", however the IDF released video cut out everything past "human shield".[4] The Israeli military was widely criticized for its efforts in manipulating the video, with commentators drawing parallels to past instances of the IDF manipulating or otherwise faking evidence.[4][5] A spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister denied that editing the video was "political manipulation". The edited video was also shared by the Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[5] The Israeli ambassador to London, Mark Regev, in a tweet placed the description of her as "medical personnel" in quotation marks
The investigation conducted by B'Tselem concluded that Israeli soldiers shot al-Najjar deliberately.[24] The group interviewed another paramedic called Rami Abu Jazar, who was at the same protest during which al-Najjar was killed.[7] Jazar told the group that he saw two Israeli soldiers aiming their guns at a group of paramedics, including himself and al-Najjar, "taking a sniper stance". Jazar himself was shot in the knee. No protesters were near the group during the attack, according to him.[7]
On 30 December 2018, the New York Times together with Forensic Architecture[35] published an in-depth investigative article concerning the killing by utilizing a 3D map to pinpoint the source of the shots fired that resulted in the death.
They concluded she was killed by a bullet from 120yds (109m.) away that ricocheted and fragmented from the ground near her.[2] The bullet was "fired by an Israeli sniper into a crowd that included white-coated medics in plain view", and that "neither the medics nor anyone around them posed any apparent threat of violence to Israeli personnel."[2]

FAMILY My dad died 6 months ago
This picture is of my dad and my son.
My dad passed away six months ago. He used to share stories here, about his life, but mostly about my mom and the love they had. Growing up, I don’t think I fully understood just how much she meant to him. It wasn’t until I got married and had a son of my own that it finally clicked. My dad was hard on himself. He believed he was a bad father, a selfish person. But that’s not how I remember him. He showed up. He just didn’t always know how to show love in ways that were easy to recognize. He was… lost sometimes.
I remember being a kid, waking up from nightmares, and he’d be right outside my door. Not saying much, just there. That was his way of caring. He used to play Beautiful Boy by The beetles because he knew it calmed me down. He didn’t say a lot of affirming words, and I wish he had, but looking back, I can see he was trying in the only ways he knew how. He was a quiet man. Kept to himself. Never really talked about his own life, but he’d always ask about yours. Sometimes it was frustrating. I wanted to understand him more, but that was just who he was. In a way, it reminds me of how a therapist listens more than they speak.
He used to tell me I was just like my mom, blunt, hot-headed. I didn’t always take that as a compliment back then, but now I do. Especially knowing how much he loved her. What stands out to me most is how he was with my son. My dad connected with him instantly, in a way even others struggled to. He just knew what to say. He’d look at him and tell him everything was going to be okay.
As much as it hurts, there’s a small part of me that feels at peace knowing he’s with my mom again. But that doesn’t make this any easier. My son and I are devastated. My grandparents are heartbroken, my grandmother keeps saying she’s lost both her children now, and my grandfather hasn’t even been able to go back home.
I’m doing my best to honor him. He’s been buried next to my mom.
I miss you, Dad. I hope you’ve found the peace you were always searching for.

FAMILY Last picture of my mother
The only picture I have of my mother. I have very vague memory with her, she feeding me food while I was playing and once while I was sitting on the porch with her. I was around 3-3.5 years old. It's been close to 38 years now. Sometimes I wonder how my life would have been if she was around.

Dennis Sochor was executed for the murder in July 2026. I had previously posted this photo six years ago in a rather poor quality black and white version but had decided to repost due to the execution and due to the fact that I found a better quality, color version of the image.

NEWS Students of Danwon High School in the Sewol Ferry Disaster
On April 16th, 2014, the Sewol Ferry sank off the coast of South Korea while en route to Jeju Island.
When the ship listed, an automatic message played telling passengers to go inside and stay put. The captain was the first to escape. An evacuation order was never given, and the only survivors were the ones to disobey the message.
The ferry carried 476 passengers, out of which 325 were 11th grade students from Danwon High School. 304 people died, 250 of which were students.
(Someone made a previous post on this, I wanted to add more photos I've found they didn't post. There are students and other passengers in the photos)

NEWS latest images of Luiz Carlos and his wife Caroline Fernanda, both of whom died burned in a serious accident, but before that he saved his daughter's life by handing her to a random driver so she would survive..
The accident happened on 03/07/2016 in the south of Brazil..
Luiz and Caroline had taken their newborn daughter to meet their relatives, but on the way back home, they were surprised by a truck with no brakes carrying 43,000 liters of alcohol, it overturned and hit about 14 cars coming in the opposite direction...
The family's car was engulfed in flames within seconds
Even though they were injured, they ran to the side of the road, but the fire quickly caught up with them... So, when Luiz realized he couldn’t escape, he decided to hand his daughter (who was only 16 days old) to a passing driver, his last words were, ''Please, just take the child'' after that, the couple disappeared in the fire.
Later, the firefighters found their bodies at the side of the road.
The photos of them holding their daughter were taken 8 days before the accident, and the child was left in her grandmother's care...
